Mom007:
Brother please I don't understand you. What is dangotes's offense here now? Providing jobs for hundreds of thousands of Nigerians or what? do you know the caliber of people he employs and trains to drive those trucks? Please stop apportioning blame based on sentiment. for all you know the car driver could have been at fault. rip to the dead.
Dey there nah...

Toyota made Lexus with faulty accelerator pedals which caused accident as the pedal got struck and car couldn't be stopped. Toyota was fined a billion dollars for it..

So Dangote should not be touched or fined because he's not the one driving the truck.... Clap for yourself.

Safety fears erupted around some of Toyota’s most popular models in 2009, when California Highway Patrol officer Mark Saylor and three family members were killed in a high-speed crash caused by the unintended acceleration of his car. The terrifying episode was captured in a 911 emergency call in which Saylor’s brother-in-law described speeding out of control in a Lexus at more than 125 mph before the car crashed, killing all four occupants.

Christopher P. Reynolds, chief legal officer at Toyota Motor North America, said the company took full responsibility for the effects of its actions on consumers at the time of the recalls.

“We have made fundamental changes across our global operations to become a more responsive company,” he said in a statement. “Entering this agreement, while difficult, is a major step toward putting this unfortunate chapter behind us.”

In addition to the $1.2 billion fine, which will go into the government’s coffers, Toyota faces nearly 400 wrongful-death and personal-injury lawsuits. It has settled at least seven lawsuits in the past few months.

In other news...

Dangote is happily exchanging pleasantries with the new oba of Benin

While his trucks kill people.

To think many people revere Dangote makes me angry. In the U.S, dangote will be in jail today.

His trucks have killed up to a thousand innocent people (no extrageration please).... He has never come out to publicly caution his drivers or commiserate with the victims. It's wickedness... All he cares about is money.

I'll rather be an average guy than be like Dangote.

I wonder how he manages to sleep at night sef

Toyota was fined $1.2bn for making Lexus with faulty accelerator pedals...

Nobody is even talking about

aerodynamics, age and size of the vehicles.

Would you say a bus or truck travelling at 120km will have the same speed as a Toyota Avalon at same 120km?

Or say a 2000 Avalon at 120km will have same speed with a 2015 Avalon also at 120km....

If the speed is the same, then why do people change cars?

Is it now crime to be male?

If una wan recruit or train, at least make una set quota aside for whatever category of people you need.

But to say "Female Only"... If a job is tagged "male only" una go shout discrimination so its unfair to tag it female only.

We all went to the same schools and paid the same fees.... If someone is better qualified, give the person the job... Or decide quota... If it is male 50%, female 50%, fine ! To give help, job or whatever simply cos a person carry front and back....

As if that is not enough, una boldly tag am female only.... Shey it is now useless to be male? undecided

Politics › Re: Be Honest, Is Nigeria Worth Dying For? by oweniwe(m): 6:17pm On Sep 25, 2016
Timbuktou:
"Nigeria" did not do all these unscrupulous things, Nigerians did. The Nigeria we have now is what Nigerians have made of it. Nigeria itself, is largely inanimate. Nigerians have themselves to blame because they stand idly by and do nothing when things the wrong things are done day in, day out. Do you expect the society to magically transform to a utopia? You think those benefitting from evil will give it up just because it hurts you? Bros, wake up.

The next time you're in a queue and someone feels too big and beats the queue, think of what a good Nigerian should do; call them to order or let them enjoy their boldness since it's "petty". We cannot have our cake and eat it too. Just yesterday, some clowns were protesting in favour of Patience Jonathan. Did "Nigeria" push them out onto the streets? ...
The issues you mentioned there are petty. The problemwit h Nigeria is Nigeria itselt.... because the way it is configured, it can never be a developed country.

I don't know what tribe you are from... but i know that if you're on a queue and a man older than you or someone with responsibilities more than you... e.g. a heavily pregnant woman, transporter, proprietor or police/soldier in an ATM queue... If i'm not in a hurry, i don't mind letting such folks move ahead if they politely request to use the service ahead of others on the queue.

Nigeria's problems are in it's institutions, not the people. The Nigerian people are good, they are very good... but institutions in Nigeria are set up/configured in such a way that they give unfair advantage to some people to rob others of their human, business, social and natural resources.

Nigeria is configured in such a way that one region/tribe does not want the other regions to develop ahead of them so when they have they power, they do all they can to ensure that other parts of the country are left desolate so they can "harvest" the manpower and resources of the other people in exchange for peanuts or nothing.

I will give you examples. Look at the Power National Grid system. The localities that provide the power are left in darkness while the power they produce is carried to the "big Cities". The Northern oligarchies do not want the Niger Delta people to "dominate" the petroleum industry so they would rather prefer Nigeria spend billions of dollars to import petroleum products than allow modular refineries be built in the Niger Delta. You read news of Military folks destroying "illegal refineries", don't you? But you never hear of Military arresting illegal miners in the Northern parts of the country.

The way the Developed countries draw off the resources and manpower of underdeveloped countries is exactly the same way the big tribes/regions try to under develop other tribes/regions.

Tell me how Nigeria will work this way.

The best thing that will work for Nigeria is the British System... Ireland, Wales, Soctland... they have their own government but are under the GB. NO sensible Nigerian wants Nigeria to break up so the fear of secession is not likely to materialize.

However, The problem with the confederate system .... is how to define the territories that will make up the confederate. Some people are willing to talk about it in order to solve that problem but some other people are not willing to hear anything about it so it creates akind of hatred-mistrust among Nigerians.

NB: It is useless to protest in Nigeria. The only language the Nigerian system understand is violence. The will wait for hundreds or thousands of people to die first before fixing a simple road. Farmers protesting against fulani herdmen are arrested, or shot dead.

Yoruba protested when MKO was arrested and detained for years. Was MKO finally released? No, he died in detention. Zak Zakay and NNAmdi Kanu are in prison... are people not protesting?

if you protest in Nigeria... Rather than listen to your grievance and try to solve the problem... others will deride and laugh at you.

Timbuktou:
Of course, Nigeria is worth dying for. The question is, how many of you deserve to be Nigerians.
As a writer.... With epileptic poser supply, tattered and comatose publishing industry, bad international image...

It's the other way round...

Nigeria does not deserve some of its 'citizens'

Look at the Olympic football team... Does Nigeria deserve them? There are many countries willing to pay millions of dollars, people and support their trade with good institutions...

But Nigeria... Instead of supporting it's citizens, it will be frustrating them.

Nigeria does not deserve some of it's citizens

Politics › Re: Should The Nigerian Government Negotiate With Militants? by oweniwe(m): 2:01am On Sep 06, 2016
Dont negotiate with them.... But let the oil companies or host communities keep a percentage of their production... Even if it is 5%... To build up/develop the host communities directly. That will put an end to the agitations.

Chevron, Agip and Sterling have been supplying 24/7 power supply and building community roads for their host communities while the state/local govt sit down doing nothing angry

NDDC tried initially but as corruption and nepotism entered, they became useless like the state/local govt.

I'm sure sure some people here don't know what a host community really is sha. They're small hapless villages where the oil wells are actually drilled ... And gas is flared there too.

NDDC/State government projects are mainly located in the cities leaving actual oil producing villages in squalor.... I don't know this is so but I guess it is because the cost of doing projects in oil producing villages is very very expensive due to swampy/water logged terrain.

It is useless building roads there cos the roads won't survive a year... Only bridges will do. To build 5km host community bridges for 10 billion or build 20 km outside the host communities for the same 10billion, which will you choose? But it is actually the host communities money so it is wrong for the government to spend it outside the host communities.

The people there are suffering. Nigerians for other tribes can't understand why the FG should give a tiny community in Delta 10 billion "just because they produce oil". Those people don't even know what gas flaring is like and neither do they know what a swamp is.

They will be saying... " let their leaders account for the billions they are collecting..." As if billion naira is big money. The ground in Oyo for example, is very hard. I can just clear d road with excavator, use a roller to level the earth surface and pour tar.... 10bn will build 50km road in Oyo that way.

You can't build roads in Nigeria Delta that way. By the time you sand fill 5km swamp and build drainage, that 10bn has finished. However, if they are asking for more, they deserve it.

A single Niger Delta oil producing village can produce N100bn monthly for Nigeria. Salaries of strangers in Sokoto, Taraba, Borno are paid from what that small community produces. But what does Sokoto Taraba or Oyo state for example contribute to the federtion account apart from small VAT? I don't know.

Yet they will come online and be insulting Niger Deltans for demanding a tiny fraction of what they produce. Mtchew. angry
