lawani:
You see, there was no where that Tinubu campaigned for Jonathan back then and Yoruba are not his slaves, you understand? Igbos have more issues than Yorubas nowadays. I mean more moral issues. More drug peddlers, 419s and armed robbers. Though Yoruba too have theirs but Igbos are leading in that sector. Igbos have traditionally voted against Yoruba in all elections. From Awo to Abiola to Falae while Hausas supported Awo and Abiola. So what cooperation are you talking about? Igbos have never cooperated with Yoruba and that is because of the civil war but if your ancestors hand land over to you and an army division enter it without your consent, believing you are cowards, what will you do? Will you fail your ancestors and submit yourself to the rule of a people junior to you in everything? That would be foolish, it would be a betrayal of our ancestors. So we responded thesame way the Ijaw, Urhobo and Itsekiri responded (They killed 50 Biafran soldiers in a single attack) with mortal fire to defend our lands and the Biafrans went into a retreat and that ensured their loss. Prior to the invasion of the West, no Yoruba or Midwesterner was fighting the Biafrans. Not a single one. Rather some Midwesterners and Yorubas were fighting for Biafra. Igbos would have done same. So why blame the Yorubas?
I get your point very well... smiley

Actually, I didn't know what was in my mind when I made that post.

On Igbos having more issues than yoruba, that is very wrong.... And that's part of the problem with Nigeria ... It is only when someone succeeds that he is a Nigerian. .. Or when they want to share money. Every other time, you're yoruba, hausa or igbo.

If Chukwu Amadi wins gold, he is a Nigerian
.. but if Chukwu Amadi traffics drugs, he is not a Nigerian, he is igbo!

Nevertheless, all tribes in Nigeria (have their own perculair vices) ..... Hausa have theirs in religious extremism..... The reason why these ethnic vices have not been solved is because the Government itself is tribalised.... If people from the tribe of the Executive in power commit crimes, they are overlooked or if it involves other tribes, the executive ignores the crime for fear of stocking up ehnic wars....

On Igbos not voting for yoruba, it's really not their fault cos Nigeria ' s system is based on North -South divide... It does not take into recognition that there are two major tribes down south... And the northern politicians ruthlessly exploit this shortcoming to divide southern votes.

If you have a Yoruba presidential candidate and igbo vice candidate, igbo will vote for the party.... But when the candidate is Yoruba moslem and Vice also Northern Moslem, ... Give me a good reason why any sensible igbo man should vote for that party.

On the other hand, if a Northern politician picks an igbo vice, ... Igbos will not be compelled to vote for the Party with Yoruba-Hausa candidates ... Especially when both are Moslems. ...

Awo and zik cannot run together because the Nigerian system complells they must pick vice and other important candidates from the north .... So it is not as if igbo does not want to vote yoruba... Its Just that anything that has too much hausa and Muslim inside it, count most igbo out of it.

On the civil war... I personally detest the way ojukwu ran it.... He was confused about whether he wanted biafra or southern Nigeria. If he wanted Biafra alone, he should have respected his boundary or pushed his army up instead of west.

Ojukwu ' s thought at the time must have been that he could win by quickly taking over Lagos which was the capital at the time so he wouldn't have to spend more on defending his flanks..... And that was beyond the mandate given to him by the Eastern House of Assembly which is stritcly limited to Biafra.... Instead of Negotiating with people and carrying them along, he forced his personal opinion on them... No world super power suport...He deserved what he got.

The assumption of the average igbo man is that it would be far easier to develop the south as opposed to attempting to develop the whole Nigeria at the same time... They think the North is the problem with Nigeria .... Just look at how Buhari has scattered everywhere ...

Though igbo want southern Nigeria free of the north, .. half of the yoruba are divided over whether they want one Nigeria or if they want restructuring. ... Not their fault though since the Moslem yorubas often oppose and flow along with the north... This kind of "hesitatation", or indecisiveness is what igbo ppl dislike about yoruba

I'm not trying to sound Ipob. .. I'm only trying to Make you see things from the "eastern " angle

Cheers

I respect your reasoning abilities. At least let's agree that popular opinions aren't always correct hence the phrase "contrary to popular opinions". But what part of the bible exactly is for our own good?
Honestly, i was surprised by this question. Every book has a purpose. Some books are meant for recreation, some for advice, some on health and hygiene, Some for self help... etc. Just like a multi-tool box..... And you know, when you want to use a multi-tool box, you open the box, IDENTIFY THE TOOL YOU REQUIRE, use it, replace and close the box. That's the same way (I) use the Bible. I don;t just read the Bible anyhow... I only read the part i require from it.

If you have time, i recommend you read James Chapter 1... then close your eyes, take a deep breath and ask yourself if the chapter is useful to use. smiley

The was a time babe and I, not wanting to talk dirty during midnight chats, decided to paste songs of solomon for each other. i would paste verse 1-5 for her, she would paste verse 6-10 for me... on and on till we got tired of the game... believe me, it was romantic. cheesy cool

If i am facing uncertain situations, i may read Paslm 91.

So... the Bible has so many uses... identify the part you need, and move on.[/quote]
All I see the bible doing is creating hatred, strife and people who are unreasonably judgemental. A loving father drowning and yet threatening to torment his loved children with eternal fire. That sounds more like a psychopathic criminal.
I guess you haven't read much of the Bible, otherwise you wouldn't have made the above statement. cool

When you become a Parent... and you see your child taking hard drugs... if you do nothing and look away... and you child later becomes "wasted", your child will blame you for not warning him about the dangers of indulging in hard drugs.

But if you warn your child and say... my child, don't take hard drugs... if you do... it is going to ruin your brain, relations with people, work and future.... Your child may listen to you after seeing how erratic and disorganized people who abuse drugs behave.

God works in similar way..... There are many activities and forces working above our heads that we cannot see. .. we might feel them, but we cant see them.

Can you see into the future? God asked Job some questions here....

12 Hast thou commanded the morning since thy days (began), (And) caused the dayspring to know its place; That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, And the wicked be shaken out of it? Job 38:12-13

Canst thou bind the cluster of the Pleiades, Or loose the bands of Orion? Knowest thou the ordinances of the heavens? Canst thou establish the dominion thereof in the earth?

Canst thou bind the wild-ox with his band in the furrow? Or will he harrow the valleys after thee? Wilt thou trust him, because his strength is great? Or wilt thou leave to him thy labor? Wilt thou confide in him, that he will bring home thy seed, And gather (the grain) of thy threshing-floor? ........... (Obviously, you will agree the 'wild ox' is not really an animal)

Can you answer those questions? What do you think the Bible meant by "Have you commanded your morning...?"

These are not empty words... they are deep words of admonition that anyone will find useful.

Have the gates of death been revealed unto thee...? ... Do you know what will happen after you die?

The point i'm trying to make is.... God is not really that angry and vengeful monster you think He is..... He is only trying to advice you... Just as you would advice your child not to do this or not to do that.... It's up up to you to take the advice or not.

On Hell fire..... It might be real... it might not be real.... If you tell your child ... don't abuse drugs because if you do, you will see "hell fire".... there are so many cases of people who got wasted after trying out narcotics.... that is their own "hell'....

A wise person won't take any advice from anyone who tortures and drowns his own children. The parts of the bible that sound like they teach good morals are just a no brainer. You don't need to be told that killing is wrong nor that stealing is wrong. Just ask urself why the state does not incorporate fornication as a crime in the law. Its because we are wise enough to tell good from bad whether or not a medieval book tells us to do so.
Honestly... this is not right.

Armed robbers who go to rob bank.... shoot people and steal money... Do they know that armed robbery is wrong?

People who smoke weed or even cigar.... Do they know that smoking is not good for the health? That was how a cousin who was fat and fresh became emaciated and wrinkled after about a year of smoking weed....

Pick-pockets, corrupt politicians, Drug and human traffickers..... They know that the things they are doing is bad..... but does their knowledge of good and bad does not deter them from stealing or destroying other people's homes.

The fact that we know what is good and what is bad doesn't stop mankind from doing bad things... you probably have no idea of how bad things have become. You will read news that Fulani herdsmen .... armed with automatic riffles... would sneak into villages at midnight and start shooting everyone in sight.... is that right to you? If it is not right to you, then wwhy do you think fulani herdsmen are destroying the lives of people who did not offend them in any way?

If you were God, how would you deal with these fulani herdsmen?

Will you caution them, arrest and lock them up, kill them (why should you keep them alive after they've killed so many other people?) or you would grind them to dust and blow their ashes away?

If you would take any of the above measures, then why are you condemning the concept of hell fire? If you are God... People were killing each other anyhow.... and you created hell and say... from now on... any one who kills another person without cause will go to hell.... And one fulani herdsman killed 20 people who did not offend him, if he goes to hell, it is not your fault.

That hell fire you created is meant to serve as a sort of psychological deterrent to prevent mankind from going haywire... if there were no hell... people would start butchering each other just for fun.

You said man is wise enough to know everything.... Is it everything in the world that man knows? How come man, with all the technologies at his disposal still doesn't know how to prevent and cure simple diseases? .... Take cancer for example... Why hasn't man been able to cure cancer if he is so wise?

You might be thinking you're the best in your field... until you travel out... and see other people who are far better than you in the same field.

So.... if you think man is all wise,.... next 50 years, the next generation will even call us 'foolish' grin

Good point! So you have now come to agree that the bible was written by mans wisdom and not the word of god thereby providing another argument. Isn't it safe to admit that the god and everything they wrote about their god were lies and some stories even though close to truth were exergerated? So I'm safe to conclude that this book is rather full of wishful thinking and nothing close to perfection as it would have gullible people believe? You made an excellent point and it supports what historians said about the real flood as told by the Babylonians 2000 years before the Jews went into captivity at Babylon, copied and falsified the real story to make their small idol appear powerful.
If everybody is saying different things, dont listen to them.

But if everybody is saying the same thing, listen to them.

The fact we did not witness something in our generation doesnt mean it never happened.

The Bible is a book of proverbs, advices and exhortations that are for our own good.

The fact that the Bible was written years ago doesn't make its qualities invalid ....

So if you want to use the Bible, read the parts you need.... And close the rest..

Cheers. smiley

In life, anything is possible.

If ancient Egyptians can build pyramids and obelisks that endured till today... Even built giant ships to transport heavy stuffs....

The walls of babylon.. as high as 15 storey buildings and wide as 20 lane highway so that soldiers could shoot from top of the walls.... The great wall of china... Aren't they real?

Then what makes you think noah ' s ark is impossible?

We're talking about millions of years past here....

Remember in the times of Aristotle, people thought the World was one big single flat plate surrounded by water on the edges.

We all know isrealites are short people ... So goliath the "giant " might just be 10-11 feets tall while isrealites were 5-7 feet ppl so goliath seemed like giant to them.

My point is... People write based on their time.... At the time of writing the first books of the bible, people certainly thought the whole World is the middle east..... So if a large scale flood or tsunami once sub-emereged the whole middle east, .... In the writers mind, the whole World was covered in flood.

This undersight can be forgiven because ... Even with all the science and technology they had, ... A few centuries ago, people thought there were only 3 continents in the World .... Africa Europe and Asia.... Finish... That was before the Americas, Australia and Antarctica were discovered.... Even till today, we are still discovering new facts about the earth.

We're talking about millions of years ago here....

Let me ask the O.p this question .... If you have to trek from lagos to calabar or kano through thick jungles in ... Say 10th century..... No bicycle, no plane, no car... No chariot... How many "World " will you see? You might probably write thar you saw 12 different Worlds. grin

So everything that happened millions of years ago when the scrolls were being written only happened within the vicinity of the writer. .... To them... At the time, only the middle eas. Is "the whole World " ...

All those animals you said noah packed into the ark were most probably not found in the area at all.... So Noah packed in only the animals within the vicinity to that couldn't live in water to save them from flooding ...

All these talks of kangaroo and penguins are not necessary.

Literature › Re: Dear Contemporary African Writer, We Read; We Don't Just Read You by oweniwe(m):
I'm a writer....

Nigeria doesn't have a publishing industry angry

Common literary agents or agencies are not available anywhere in Nigeria.

I have taken my scripts to publishers and they'll all tell me we " don't take manuscripts here ".

Ebook publishing is also affected by Nigerian factors. You can't publish on kobo, google books, Barnes & Noble ... Etc cos they are country specific... If u put fake us or uk address, they hit u with IBAN/SWIFT code.

African books don't sell on Kindle Amazon ... Imfact, no African country is among Kindle supported countries.

To make the epub is quite hard.... Sigil is good but validation errors are hard to fix. Calibre is even harder to fix... I once checked one of my ebooks created with Sigil on Calibre and it threw up over 250 CSS errors ... Though the ebooks work fine on any device....

If you attempt putting the ebooks on Draft2Digital or smashwords, the errors come up... Smashwords is even worse with its meat grinder.

In summary, it's impossible for the writer in nigeria to do everything alone. All the Writer is supposed to do is simply to type and edit his manuscript And send to literary agents... Finish

How the books will be published ... Hardcopy or digital ... Is not the writers headache .... The publisher will sort all that out.

Federal Government ' s inconsistent policies also affect too... Assuming a book online costs $1 and it sells 100 copies, the author makes $70... Convert $70 to naira using $1-N300 .... $70 X N300= the American author makes N21,000 on 100 copies sold.

But in Nigeria ... If u put your books on okadabooks and set the price above N150, few people will buy it..... If the Nigerian author sets his ebook price at N100, he'll have to sell 210 copies before he'll make N21,000.... He'll have to sell 1,000 copies b4 he can make N100,000.

So the reality is... Publishing is cumbersome, expensive and doesn't pay if you're publishing from Nigeria

Same way, the road from Ughelli to Warri was built from bitumen mined in Ondo state back then, no one complained.

All that I am saying is, we have all benefited from something coming out of the other states.
So. .. In your mind... Delta people enjoyed those services free of charge?

They don't pay nepa bills?

Don't get me wrong .... We are not saying we don't want to share or give resources ....

What we are saying is... If you want to take... Take wat u want and leave small for your host community.

Heavy duty equipments being moved by oil companies often destroy feeble communal road.

Oil dey yet we are paying N145 for per liter for imported petrol.

Gas dey to generate power...... Dey sell 20%, use 10% to generate power dat is stepped down far away.... Den they flare the remaining 70%... If a plant generates 150mw, is 500kva or so allocation to host community too much? Why leave them in darkness?

Oil exploration and hydro dam are two different things. Dams affect the ecology only once after they are built... You have probably not been to Niger delta Where gas is being flared for over 30 years now without respite

If you want to build pipeline or flow Station .... You can build as long as u want.. after u are done, repair the roads u cut up to lay your pipes....dont just lay pipe and run away..
