As the general elections draw closer, politicians are getting desperate to get more people to cast their votes in their favour.Last week, I witnessed an amazing drama unfold as a politician tried frantically to convince my neighbour to cast his vote for a party. When the politician realized that his effort was getting him nowhere, he decided to use the power in his pocket. He brought out a bundle of N200 notes and dangled it in my neighbour’s face, basically the way you would dangle some bait to an animal you are trying to catch. “How much is your vote?” he asked, with a deceptive smile on his face. My neighbour hesitated for a moment, and then he grabbed a piece of paper and began to scribble down something. When he finished writing, he handed the piece of paper to the politician saying, “This is the value of my vote.” The politician went through the paper briefly and then squeezed and threw it away, in my direction. He hurried away, saying that my neighbour wasn’t being rational. My neighbour, realizing I was watching, picked up the paper and said, waving the paper at me, “Am I being irrational?” I collected the paper and took a quickly look at it. He had written on the paper the breakdown of his family’s expenses, which the government (according to him) had so far failed to provide or make available for its citizens. He then multiplied everything by four (4) years. Something like this:

Security - N20,000 per month x 12 months x 4 years = N960,000
Generator - N40,000 per 2 years x 2 = N80,000
Fuel for generator - N1,000 per day x 365 days x 4 years = N1,460,000
Potable water - N500 per day x 365 days x 4 years = N730,000
Healthcare Insurance - N10,000 per month x 12 months x 4 years = N480,000
Education - N5,000 per month x 12 months x 4 years = N240,000
Housing - N500,000 per year x 4 years = N2,000,000
Total - N5,950,000 (five million nine hundred and fifty thousand naira).

Well,” he explained as I continued to stare at his breakdown, “if asking for the basic necessities of life is not being rational, I wonder what is rational?” I wasn’t trying to be difficult,” he continued. “I believe this is a modest breakdown of expenses considering I have a wife and a kid. If you have a larger family, the value of your vote may be much higher than this,” he concluded.

So, my dear friend, if you want to sell your vote, I won’t say “don’t.” But, be like my neighbour. Make sure it is “worth its weight in gold.” GET A VERY GOOD BARGAIN FOR YOUR VOTE

This are insipid excuses for failure.Long ago, time-lines were agreed for the election and there are certain deliverables along the line. I want to believe that INEC in all its wisdom is well aware that a very key ingredient in the electn process are the materials.Billions of Naira have been voted and spent for dis singular reason. Granted,dt internal logistics and distributn cld be a challenge in a country like us.The impact shd not be so overwhelming to d extent of postponing the electn,country-wide. And for INEC to suddently turn around on d election date claiming dt materials are not available, to be modest, is untenable. At any rate, dis is Naija with her penchant for 'uncommons'. Don't worry folks,one day we shall get it right!!!!!!!

This is a commercial war and the west are desperately pushing it for their own selfish interest. Within a week, some bunch of rascals were armed to teeth . As if that is not enough, they hurriedly cconferredddiplomatic recognition on a rag-tag council only known by some strange aliases. Who are the sponsor- Libyans? These rebels are flexing their muscle based on the "oil- for-logistics- deal'' packaged by the West and their cohorts.


America has been very lethargic at championing this war because the Brits are the ultimate beneficiary of the post war Libya by virtue of their 'ontributions' to the imbroglio. The recent deal signed by BP with Ghaddaf is like is a binding IPSO on successful government. The worst that would be done is to further renegotiate the deal and tight loose ends.

But the good side of the story is that AlQeda/Hezbollah have infiltrated the rebels thus souring thier "perfect deal"

Granted thatGhaddaffi is worst than perfect and should have left power a very long time ago , heaven knows that this war is in Lybia is not between Ghaddafi and his country men but against the West.

Lets take the +ves from the story and move forward.

This is the tragedy of our time. It is unfortunate that the West are into full time re-colonization of African by orchestrating wars and disturbance in sovereign states. It is now a common practice to ride on the back of popular uprising to topple sitting governments all in the name of Rule of Law.Shamelessly, they incites citizens against their leaders at the slightest provocation.

In the process, all the goodness and resources in the land are shyphoned away and shared among the west in proportion to their contribution to "the change process".

In the last 90 days, over 6 civil wars have been orchestrated in Africa and the Gulf states and more $200b worth of oil and other natural benefits have been "re-assigned" among the West.

In ammunition and logistic suplies alone,some western countries have increased their export receipts by over $50b without correspondence imports from these warring states. In Ivory coast alone,Logistics for Coffee export is in excess of $4billion to donor states in the form of futures and option lock-ins.

It is an open secrets that most of the wars ravaging Africa are commercial wars with benefits and returns duly analysed before the commencement of uprisings. This is no leftist campaign but in Libya, America government has refused to bankrolled the war alone cos of its commercial implications.

It may interest you to note that the Brits recently signed lucrative oil deals with LYBIA and would in no distant time most likely engaged the rebels in negotiation new oil acreages. The moral question the Brits needs to answer is are they ready to cancel the contract with the "illegal government" of Qaddafi now that "savior are in the horizon? They dont care once their bread is buttered.

It is a known fact that African leaders are selfish and sit-tighters but the rate at which the West in debauching African states to replenish their over-stressed economies is shameless. They are so blatant at the act that they are ready to take-on any government brazenly without shame.

This is exactly what they did during the slavery trade era -entering into villages using locals, in daylight capturing their able bodies as slaves without blinking an eye. In today's parlance, they only ride on the back of popular uprising to formentand perpetuate illegalities.

Dont get me wrong, Iam a strong and staunch advocate of good and responsible government but the rate of western imposition is alarming , Africa and her leaders must watch out and checkmate these gate-crashing .

The supposed break up of Nigeria is a western ideal, it may sound impossible NOW but don't rule it out. These rogues are capable of doing anything and the manner and mode of our leadership would only made it a plausible alternative by the time they strike. Let us ALL watch out.
