I, for one was never a fan of digging animal holes or hideouts and my dad wasn't either because it leads to killing too many and unnecessary one at a time.
Since, we could set different types of traps which would catch one at time we were cool with that. But of course sometimes you find a nursing mum dead in your trap...

Abi nau, is still the same either killing a nursing animal mother by trap or digging. But I and my crew always spare the young ones. We take them home at times to cater for them & later return them to an empty burrow when we are sure they can adapt and survive in wild. All these are done as not to ex terminate the animal in the bush.

U wrong, their is clear diffrence between Bush rat, okete which are edible & house or unedible rats.
Okete, okere, ẹmo, afé, eda, olose, Rago, elegedo, owawa, ikùn including Bush Asin are edible.

Most of them were born and raised in the city without any idea of how village life and economy runs. They are always quick to judge or condemn what they don't know.
From primary school to university as a student whose parents lived in the village, I used to spend all my holidays in the village to my parents to farm.
Hunting with traps (not gun or Arrows) was a big for us because bush had to be available for my mums cooking, the bigger animals like porcupine, Grasscutter, antelope, gazelle, warhug/bush pig were souces on income that added to our school fees.

The only animals I regret killing back then at the village are pregnant mother/ nursing mother. U will never see a nursing mother okete run out of her burrow, they always stay, fight to the end to secure their children. But I always feel bad when I see younger ones after killing their mother as they may be too small to survive without their mother.

There is no rabbit among those animals. 2 of them is ologede (civet) while the remaining 6 are okete (giant porsh rat)
