The Bear S3........8.5/10

As always the show continues to deliver. Top tier culinary eye candy as usual. Great performances and personal stories as expected.
Ayo Edebiri just dey gimme joy. She gets prettier by the day.

S3 seemed like the weakest, general plot progression wise imo, as it was more character driven and back story, but it was still an excellent season nonetheless.

It is like the fastest any show, has entered my personal all time faves of shows, they cleared my doubt right from S1. I mean, 11 Emmy wins from 2 seasons, is just GOAT level good, absolutely nut!, and i just know they are still gonna run it back at the next Emmy.


The thing i liked most about this season, it's like, each episode was like it's own movie, with it's own characters and unique story and my favorite was Episode 6 "Napkins", not just because, Jon Bernthal made his usual stellar cameo, but the overall writing of that episode was just fine work, down right philosophical to say the least....and my eyes lit up at the end, saw "Directed by Ayo Edebiri" 🎉

And more importantly, they have been giving me a new season every year, for the past 2 years...like the old days, i respect and appreciate this gesture alot.

Still shocked how the brand with the biggest marketing in consumer products giving zero fvvks about it streamer. They spend big money producing the projects but spend peanuts on marketing. It's just a dümb strategy.

Even HBO with all the pedigree and years of fanbase still don't slack when it comes to it's biggest shows.

I have already clocked it that they probably just wanted a media outlet that stays within their ecosystem to prevent users of their product from looking elsewhere for VOD services. They are that big on keeping things within their eco system and putting their own brand on things. AI that has been on virtually everything, came last to Apple's ecosystem, and they still found a way to colonize it and call it "Apple Intelligence" just to make it stand out and stay within their eco system 😅, that's what they are doing with Apple TV and that's what they do with their products.

They don't really need to convince anyone to use Apple TV, cuz they ship it with IOS products and IOS products are one of the world highest selling products. They offer great incentives when you first register for Apple TV, and then people just get trapped and continue to pay for it, once they see the great line up they have.

They already know, they can't match stride for stride, those already in the game like HBO, Netflix and the likes. They just need the Iphone, Ipad and Macbooks to keep selling and they are good.

Btw, when you own an IOS device, trust me, they will definitely let you know they have this great line up, 😩😅

Omo 😩! I just know bulk of the money went to the VFX guys and animators. I really would like to see, how hard they cooked S2, more than S1 in terms of the animation, because the animation for S1 totally snapped... one of the most aesthetically pleasing animations in a while.

Well they got me. When I saw that reference with his favourite show I was like "hell yea, he's wearing it now" complete with the monocle and umbrella. But it never happened.

Another thought, that bomb will surely get the Bat's attention or atleast Gordon's attention won't it?

A bomb that shatters the entire Gotham Overflow tunnel, you'd think will certainly get the attention of the Caped Crusader but then again Matt Reeves hinted sometime ago that we would probably not see his version of Batman again, till The Batman II in 2025, and that although the show takes place in Batman's universe but they wanted the focus to be on Oz. But i feel, a Batman appearance would have been an all timer tv moment, and they missed a huge opportunity if at the end of the last episode, he doesn't show up, at least the little premise from the final episode doesn't suggest so...

And that was IGN angst with the show and why they rated it so low. They felt The Penguin is not such an intricate character to deserve a whole show about, and a Batman appearance would have elevated the show and hidden the lack of depth of Oz.

But i say Fvck them!, Collin Farrell as Oz was one of the most memorable thing from "The Batman" (2022), and it would have been criminal not to have him reprise the role. Critics sometimes can be so up-tight for no reason, just enjoy greatness and forget about the little inadequacies ffgs. No matter how the last episode pans out, This was a GOOD SHOW! 👌🏿

Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley were going bar for bar with their performances,so so good. Might not be feasible, but should there ever be a time, a Best actress nod should come from 2 performances from the same movie, this should be it.

Another female lead performance that has impressed me this year, that I also think should get a best actress nod, is Willa Fitzgerald in Strange Darling.

😅. They have been very deliberate the title of each episode in the most brilliant way. They try to make a play on the words to euphemize and satirize a bit, what the episode would be about. Episode 4 was named "Cent'Anni" which literally an Italian phrase to say, "I wish you a 100 years and more" or "I wish you long life", but that was the episode that Sofia gassed her whole family 💀.

They have strayed very far away from the comics all season long, as they have basically just stripped down the comic character to thier own version, so i feel they wanted at least one solid connection to the comics before they go out. When Oz leaves his brother so that they could go see a movie 💀, he goes home for the promised Oedipus date with his mom, and he picks his favorite movie, "Top Hat", as a direct reference to how the character appears in the comics, with the show inkling that he got the inspiration for his outfit from his favorite movie, and i believe that was what they were going for with that episode title.

I watched Abigail last night. It started out well with a solid premise, but I think they ran into trouble in the third act. It seemed like they were confused about how to end it and were just trying anything to wrap it up. Still, it was a decent watch if you weren't expecting too much in the first place.

Watching it got me thinking about "vampirism" in media and how it's such a fun concept in the horror genre. Each screenwriter or author seems to follow a few non-negotiable rules but then goes wild, doing whatever suits their narrative. Vampires can't walk in the sun? Here comes, Brother Blade! Edward Cullen even sparkles in the sun 😩. Garlic and crosses can kill a vampire? The folks in True Blood beg to differ, it’s just a mild inconvenience for them. And the rule that vampires need an invitation to enter your house? Plenty of vampire media has dropped that one. Then there's the rule that vampires can't see their reflection; apparently, that doesn’t apply to the Salvatore brothers either.

Honestly, it's pretty easy to make up or disregard rules for mythical creatures that don't exist, at least as far as we know. Still, I can’t help but wonder if vampires actually exist. Like, hasn’t any mad scientist accidentally (or intentionally 🤔) created a vampire strain on a wild night in the lab and is secretly holding onto those vials? I need answers, people! 😩

Nah bro.... Nothing mid in this year's contenders compared to last year. Last year had Oppenheimer being the clear favourite all through the year. This one is very much competitive. You've also not seen almost all of the named films as they've mostly been available at film festivals.
I'd say you're very much not up to date in current awards buzz and campaign for this year cos I've seen buzz for literally all the movies on that list except probably A Real Pain with very recent buzz.

ANORA is the 2024 Palme d'Or winner making it the fifth win in a row for NEON. Its a major contender for Best Picture.

EMILIA PEREZ has Best Actress wins for its lead actresses (Selena Gomez, Zoe Saldana, +2 others) and won the Jury Prize — the 3rd most coveted award at Cannes.

THE ROOM NEXT DOOR won the Golden Lion prize at Venice.

CONCLAVE recently started its push and it's an overwhelming favourite for Best Picture win. With Ralph Fiennes being the favourite for Best Actor.

THE BRUTALIST won Silver Lion at Venice for Best Director. With Adrien Brody having good shouts for Best Actor nom.

BABYGIRL has a Best Actress Volpi Cup win for its lead Nicole Kidman in Venice.

THE PIANO LESSON has very good buzz for Best Supporting Actress role for D@nielle Dëàdwylér and Supporting Actor for Samuel L Jackson.

BLITZ just came out and has good shouts for Saoirse Ronan for Best Actress and Best Picture nom.

QÜEER has good buzz for Daniel Craig for Best Actor.

MARIA has been gaining momentum with Best Actress shouts for Angelina Jolie since it debuted at Venice. She was the frontrunner for a while before Demi Moore started gaining prominence with THE SUBSTANCE — which I doubt the Academy will acknowledge given their history with horror genre.

There's also other smaller films just starting their campaigns like JUROR #2, NICKEL BOYS, NOSFERATU and foreign submissions like THE SEED OF THE SACRED FIG & ALL WE IMAGINE AS LIGHT with major wins in Cannes for both.

As for WICKED, I don't know wtf that movie is doing there. Seems like Ariana Grande fans wants to force the movie in the conversation cos of its box office potential.

This year might be the most interesting and competitive we've seen in years. With no crystal clear winner. Even the overwhelming favourites look not strong enough to dominate all major categories like OPPENHEIMER and SHOGUN has done earlier this year.

I don't see DUNE PART TWO winning Best Picture or the acting categories but it will be dominant in Best Cinematography, Director, VFX, Makeup, Editing and Costume, Best Score etc. It strengths is in the technical awards.

Thanks for bringing me up to speed because believe you, me, Anora is the only movie on there, that i have even heard whiff about, i didn't follow the film festival season this year at all.

My context of favouring "DUNE: Part 2" stem from the fact that, it excelled in every department in my POV and it's the only one i have actually seen first hand, and not what some jurors at a film festival are saying, but i failed to bring to bare that, one key ingredient of Oscar Best Picture nod in recent times, is to be an artsy and arthouse flick passing some kind of social conscious message ((dangerously close to using the word, "woke" here😩). I mean i just googled the "Emilia Pèrez" flick, and one word that stuck out was "transitioning", like DUNE:Part 2 stands no chance against a flick like this, this is the Oscar Jurors bread and butter!.

The last 4 best picture wins, before last year, were CODA, Nomadland, EEAAO, and if you look closely, there is a defined pattern and requirements that sadly, DUNE:Part 2 doesn't meet.

CONCLAVE is having increasing shouts to become the best movie judging by recent polls.
Somehow to me DUNE Part II don't have enough juice to win Best Picture. Surely will get nominated but that March release puts it farther away from voters consciousness — unless WB kickstarts a mad marketing campaign. Gladiator II has the upper hand here. But still something tells me the prestigious award ain't going to them both. My guess is to either CONCLAVE, ANORA or THE BRUTALIST.

For the acting categories Mikey Madison in ANORA seems to be getting the most shouts alongside Angelina Jolie for MARIA. Ralph Fiennes looks like the overwhelming majority to win the Best Actor, to a lesser extent Adrien Brody too. As for the rest, anything can happen.

Like you said, this season its anything goes unlike last year when it was clear who were the Best Pic, Best Actor and Supporting Actor.

If Gladiator II dips, "DUNE: Part 2" is the clear favourite to win it imo. I can't explain it, but barely any other movie bar these 2, on that list, has the flair or charisma to be best picture imo.

In hindsight, it might be a free hit season at Best Picture this time around, unlike last year when "Oppie" was the overwhelming favourite, as soon as everyone saw the movie, it instantly clocked, that no other movie was gonna top it 😩, basically game over by 21/7/23, barely half of the movie year gone at that point...see Christopher Nolan is really that Guy 👌🏿.


Come to think of it, i haven't seen any overwhelming individual performances that are pulling clear of the male and female lead cate...i think, it is only Demi Moore that even remotely deserves a shout at this point...This movie year maann...uncanny to say the least.

The 24 hour validity period and the low download speeds makes this worthless as far as I'm concerned. They will throttle your download speed like mad. Speed that should normally be 1 to 2 mbps will suddenly become 500kbps. Just look at that ping. 300ms for a test server in Lagos is terrorism!!

Exactly my point...That 75GB is a mirage, a bait to get more people to download the app, they will make damn sure they throttle the speed, so you'd never see the end of that 75GB inside 24hrs 😭.

Now compare that to the speed test from my paid plan from today, still poverty speed but well above the speed i was getting when i was given a supposed "free 75GB" to flex 😐

Quentin Taratino is a dope head and might have said this after some grass sesh 🍃😅. Plus Joaquin Phoenix is a bonafide industry plant, and gets shielded from criticism alot

The number of bad things i have about the flick vs the good things i have about the flick is like 95:5, so i am very much inclined to skip seeing the movie all altogether.

Let's be serious, I liked the idea of a sequel, but this was planned as a one-off and they went even further to make it a musical ke... That's like the worst movie medium imo, no way anyone it's taking you serious with that.

This and Abbott Elementary are one of the very few shows i follow that still maintain the old tv serial release format we are used to. I mean these lot have constantly given me a new season each year, for the past 3 years or so, and i am grateful 🙏🏿.

But, i feel they are pretty easy to make, with the writing being the hardest job, same location, same cast and not a complicated plot line lol but still it takes some effort to pull it off.

You fit control all these factors but the most important factor wey u no get control over na the stable network .

Just make sure say all the factors you fit control dey ok, plus make network head dey house the day you go run am, if possible do network speed test first....you supposed fit wound PAHE wella that day
