Ishilove:I think maybe you misunderstood what i meant in the part of my piece you bolded. I clearly said " they would do anything possible" in order to properly tell a story, it doesn't infer that they should slam unnecessary nudity on every flick does it? It means anything!, if the story is about cancer, the actor/actors shave their heads to get into character, about losing weight, the actors actually lose weight to get into character, if it requires nudity, they go nude, to sell the story and make it believable!. Nudity not being in Bollywood according to you, is because it's thier niche and cultural stances holding them back. If fact, i don't know how long your Bollywood history goes, 80's Bollywood films use to have some form of nudity, believe it or not. Raj Kapoor used to have a thing for tits and his movies contained it. The india censors board just change their stance towards the beginning of the 90's to present India as some form of ultra conservative religious entity, when in fact it isn't a reflection of thier society because, ironically again, they rank high in sèxual crimes and deviance. Infact, Bollywood is becoming more liberal, their romance movies, do infact involve some sort of PDA now. I saw "Lust stories", a Bollywood anthology show on Netflix about the love/sèx life of teen to mid aged to old Indians, and i couldn't believe my eyes. Full on sèx with saree and all that!, because that's what the story demanded. It went on to be nominated for an Emmy. 5 Likes 1 Share |

Ishilove:It was her body. I am quite surprised you lot are expressing shock, because when i saw the movie, 2 years ago, the scene didn't even pique my interest as it was quite normal, as i have seen more that were more graphic and detailed than that. That scene drove home the narrative of the entire film, of a vulnerable, insecure and lonely widow looking for some form of companion and sense of belonging. And nudity is not such a "Taboo" over there. There are actually nude bars and beaches. It's just because we are ultra conservative here, that is making it seem like something alien, ironically inspite of said ultra conservative stance here, I believe the devil most likely reside here. Besides the point, Western films have shown time again, they would do anything possible, to properly tell a story and that's probably why they make better movies than us. 5 Likes 3 Shares |

SOZINN:i gagged at the bolded last bit 😂. The reason why major studios backed out from picking it up for a bullish cinematic run is so crystal clear now. I hate it when critics don't say the truth, thinking they are helping. This is Dev Patel's directorial debut if i am not mistaken, and it is very okay for him not to get it 100% right, but the near perfect hyping he got from the first screening, made me think, he cooked a sumptuous meal for the ages, but seeing the trailer, i just got a hint it was gonna be generic and i needed not to waste my time on it. |

"A Tribe Called Judah" (2024). In total awe of how good this was. I casually picked this up to cater to my Saturday delight, with very low expectations and after 2hrs, i was pleasantly surprised how good this was, all things considered. The script was so top notch, like you could easily tell, Funke Akindele had proper help with the screen play, different plot lines that all went full circle, every thing was writing with intent, absolutely nothing was left to chance. A good film starts succeeding from a good script, and this script here laid the proper foundation that the actors really had nothing much to do, like they couldn't even fail, even if they tried. The story looked scattered in at the beginning, but it held a firm cohesiveness in the end, absolutely nothing was left to imagination. Top tier props, costumes, and general direction. You could easily tell this was riding on a very high budget, albeit, that was well spent. Totally deserved the crown of the ultimate box office champ for movies in this clime. Funke Akindele maann...she totally cooked, wallahi. I enjoyed this one thoroughly ,ngl. 8/10. 2 Likes

phr0nesis:it's not. This Blu ray release is for Japan, they didn't even include English subtitles, but the people who encoded it, put one in. The international release date for it, it's uncertain, only then can one get an English dubbed I'm afraid. But personally, i like seeing movies or shows in thier original languages, gives it some sense of originality, i dunno, that's just me sha.

Ishilove:The ending was totally crazy!. I read it a very long while back, on my old Nokia phone because I couldn't lay hold on a hard copy 😅. I remember, i took screenshots from my fave parts of the book, and i just found one of the SS on my drive. I read this and "Things fall apart" for the first time, back and back, it was literally one of the best moment of my literary journey!. A family friend handed me, my first Dean Koontz book, i was so fascinated by it, that i slurped it up inside of 3 days, albiet in a time, when i didn't have to worry to fend for myself 😅. Ever since then, i have sought out his books with passion. i have seen him write about a pandemic way before the COVID pandemic broke out, i have seen him write about an Haitian voodoo priest terrorising New york city and A man whose doppelganger goes on a killing spree, the resemblance is too close, making him feel, that there might not be a doppelganger at all...... Dean Koontz has a very wide spread over the suspense, horror, physiological thriller genre and i think the only thing Stephen King has over him, is better PR. SK is good don't get me wrong, i read "Full Dark, No Stars", and it was so bone chilling that i couldn't even bring myself to see the Netflix adaptation cuz i can't bare to see such horror on live action, but i just prefer DK 😉

"Baby Reindeer" (2024). Another Netflix Gem. This doesn't even starts slow for you to ease into as the episodes got by. It was just straight up fire and all gun blazing from Episode 1. The plot is just totally bonkers and absolutely funny. British comedy hardly disappoint. Genuinely one of the best show i have seen this year. Totally recommend. 9/10. 5 Likes

GloriousGbola:Saying this unflinching bias 👀😅, Dean Koontz is the superior writer. I will sooner finish 3 Dean Koontz's books than get to the middle of a Stephen King's Book 😩. |

GloriousGbola:I think with recent box office failings, Prod companies are less willing to adapt fresh stories of books or original IP altogether, thier best best is to play it safe by constantly remaking thier successful franchise as it resonates more with the audience. Because my favorite author, Dean Koontz literally has a plathora of horror, physiological thrillers since the 80's , and only a handful have been adapted into screenplays and they aren't even the good one's. One of my fave read of him, his a book he released way back, that tells of a story about a boy named Barthy on a destiny collision course with a sociopathic killer named Junior. It is such a fascinating read, that i constantly go back to it. It will totally bang as a movie but yet these people are slacking. 1 Share

abduleez1:Seems fair i guess. Which brings me to a question, probably a general question for the thread. Has Hollywood really ran out of stories? Is it even possible? Like any form of idea now, has existed before because, i have books in my library with ideas, i haven't seen in films, albiet to the best of my knowledge but then again, taking the last 2 "big movies" to drop in the recent while, "Monkey Man" (2024) was been dubbed as Dev Patel Indie debut, but it has almost a near perfect similarities to the John Wick franchise and Dune 2, was also based on an existing IP. Like the best bet would be that even if a new movie is based on an existing IP, it should be done well and devoid of any extreme woke changes to make it suite today's audience. |

Miggs: D fuq is my business if it was a commercial hit or not? Do i own Disney?. You saying it was a mixed reception from critics proves my "it didn't tap like that" line. Anthropomorphism works well only in animation, translating that to live action doesn't really flow cohesively, the lack of proper facial expressions and emotions makes one quickly detached from the story. Again good news to Disney, as this doesn't affect me...does it 🤷🏿♂️ This new film will also be a hit because the Lion King franchise is a money spinner. Proves my point again that it is a milking/money cash grab scheme, so when it comes out, feel free to give see it in IMAX and get them to another $1.6bn 🚀🚀 Hollywood is a business and will continue to do whatever it wants to do with the franchises it owns despite what Oyaskii or anyone else thinks. That one na their papa business, if they like, they should remake every franchise ever made, a plus for them, as they have dolt like you to egg them on....as for me...i know better 👍🏿 2 Likes |

OhBritannia:"Mariko didn't die una", after that explosion??, no writter, no matter how good, can spin that into a plausible favourable outcome for her. HBO are even the kings of mini-series and they have a high rep to protect, so i very much doubt they would have extended it beyond the source material, if it aired on their network, it will quite frankly come across as a tad foolish, cuz this your "imaginary more season" could actually run on forever, Fuji-sama didn't go to the covent and married the Anjin, The heir grew up to be a bad leader and Toranaga wedge war on him, Ischido miraculously survived, and plot revenge...you see these silliness can go on and on, to no point really and no end 😩 I know you like the show and all that, but Mann, just let it go at this point fgs, i am sure, there are 100 more good shows to see and obsess over. As for this, it is done, finished, zilt, finito 👍🏿 4 Likes |

abduleez1:The live action remake they did in 2019 didn't even tap like that and now they are doing a remake/prequel to it that might not be significantly different?? Mann. I have never seen an obvious milking/cash grab scheme as this fgs. The number of remakes in the last few years tho. Hollywood might actually be toast atm, either they have lost the chi to tell new stories or they have lost the juice, or quite possibly both 😩 |

abduleez1:lol Netflix has to justify thier upward review of sub prices and clamping down on password sharing with quality content hence I can't blame them if they want to make quality worthwhile content now, and i am so sorry, i don't think ZS would make that cut. I can't even fathom how the gathered so many fans that are literally willing to go to war for him. My memory might be foggy, i don't think his time and projects with DC/WB were that top shelf to warrant this fandom. Heck Christopher Nolan most likely made better CBM movies for DC/WB and he doesn't even hold, even half of the fan base that ZS has. I do believe is most likely a "guilt trip" fan ship stemming from him leaving JL (2017) production due to personal loss, and DC/WB going ahead to finish the movie, making it seem as if DC/WB had committed a great crime and a great disservice to ZS, when the true crime was that clunky CGI they used to "unbeard" Henry Cavill, then as it turns out and so on brand of him, he had a director's cut, and he personally started a campaign to release it, and fuelled by the guilt trip of the personal loss, fans just jumped on it and finally forced WB hands to release it because i am damn near sure he didn't have these much fans post BvS (2016). Lol at Millie Bobby Brown ss 😅. Netflix has probably hacked what i have known for a long while now, that the babe's acting skills are average at best. Her latest flick with Netflix, Damsel (2024), was probably what broke the camel's back, they tried to spin a feminist heroine gimmick into a dragon fantasy nonsense and the whole thing was just pure gibberish. Critical drinker's review of it's one of my fave reviews off that channel 😅

OhBritannia:What are they even going to do in said "2nd season", since they have exhausted the source material?, just conjure up a stories from thin air? because I tell you that almost never ends well. These things are planned and are not just afterthought, they knew they will be able to cover the book in one 10 episode season mini series and they did just that and had a very fantastic go of it. The network it was on, doesn't need to stretch it any further to stay relevant, they have a huge catalogue of extremely good shows, like they hardly ever miss. I leave you with a show called "Big Little Lies" from HBO one time, it was a classic one mini series season show, as the book author intended, and the S1 was a hit, then they forced a S2 that she didn't even write, and slapped big names on it for some women empowerment gimmick, and the S2 never really hit the height of S1, because it looked forced. In life, sometimes, or i dare say, things just end, good or bad, and that's it. |

"Mr. Mercedes" (S1 - S3) 2017 - 2019. "Every religion lies. Every moral precept is a delusion. Even the stars are a mirage. The truth is darkness, and the only thing that matters is making a statement before one enters it". A crazed, psychotic, and sadistic serial killer is locked in a deadly cat and mouse game with a detective in a small fictional town of Bridgton, Ohio with an intense obsession of ending each other fuelling the whole thing, ringing out morbid repercussions, for everyone around them. Adapted from the first 2 books of Stephen King's "Mr Mercedes" trilogy. It feels like an Anthology in a way, S1 differs from S2, which also differs from S3, plot wise, but they all bear the same characters and elements, with everything happening in the same universe and intricately woven together. It totally kept me glued all week, and the network that made it were only able to adapt the first 2 books before they went bust in 2020, and i sincerely do hope another network picks this up and deliver the final book. peak crime thriller drama... totally recommend 8/10 1 Like

abduleez1:lol he is a proper waffler. When i heard that $1.6bn gross goof calculation, i basically stopped taking him seriously, like my Egbon, with years of experience in this industry can't even hack how streaming data and revenue works? 😭. Definitely why only unserious network like Netflix, are the only ones looking his way these days, those ones have unlimited funds to burn on mediocrity. His decline is so glaring as it is painful, but i am not one to settle for mediocrity, so good luck to his faithful sheeples. I will be there for his next detour outside this Rebel Moon madness, but i definitely don't rate him or expect anything good from him 👍🏿. 1 Like |

Illusioneffect:He didn't write "Watchmen" and I think that movie turned out ok. If he had shifted the writing duties of Rebel Moon to a proper screen writer, and just focused on the directing, the movie might have had a slight chance of been worthwhile. But the reverse was the case, he couldn't sell the characters, and he actually wanted us to believe that the Imperium with all the technological advancement of warfare, space ship and what not, can't hack grain farming, and might actually starve if they don't descend on a tiny village with piss poor farmers for their grains? He must be seriously joking. He was making comments, like 100m people has seen "Rebel Moon" meaning, if the movie had a theatrical release, then it would have grossed $1.6bn at the box office!. It was there i knew he had totally lost it and was probably far gone on opium. 1 Like 1 Share

Shôgun (2024) Why tell a dead man, the future? I don't think i have come across an "FX" series that i didn't like and with Shôgun, they have raised their standard even higher!. Stunning cinematography, Amazing set and costume design, rich story telling and compelling characters, all rolled into one, makes for a very good show imo, and this totally excelled in all that. I think, there is a total shift of sheer number of people genuinely interested on feudal Japan and the intricacies of Samurai politics, based off, on seeing this masterpiece alone. It was like a poetry, everything meticulous and intentionally done , no words, no action was taken just for the sake of it. I can see why people where mislead to think, this was gonna end on a "bang", after all, all the build-up will suggest so, but alas, with was just a play on the juxtaposing culture clash of East and West, honour and ambition played out with wit rather than brute. If one is paying attention, the show effectively ended at Episode 9, aptly named "Crimson Sky", that's when the true battle took place!, and so keeping with theme of a true poetry which I think the show is, Episode 10 is like a bonus, an envoi, the last stanza of a poetry, that ties everything together and gives a deeper and fulfilling meaning to the entire thing, let me cite some examples Yabushige writes his will continuously through out the show, but at the last episode hands Omi a note and says "This is my final Will". There was an episode where, Mariko, Blackthorne and Fuji seats, the first time a connection is made between all 3, this scene is repeated in Episode 10, but this time, is just Blackthorne and Fuji-sama and the semblance of heartbreak 💔. And my personal favorite, in the very first episode, after learning about Blackthorne's ship, Omi asks Yabushige if he was gonna tell Lord Toranaga about it, to which he replies, "Why tell a dead man about the future"? , and on episode ten dying embers, Yabushige asks Lord Toranaga, what was the point of the entire ruse, and what actually, is his plans before he commits seppuku, at least he believes Lord Toranaga owes him that much, to which Lord Toranaga bluntly tells him..Why tell a dead man the future? before he chopped off his head. That's why I feel the show runners stick a perfect landing with episode 10, and it's probably the best finale I have seen, since "Succession". Mann, This show will pick Emmys for fun during the award season, and rightly so, FX has this, Fargo, and "The Bear", in their coffers, makes me wonder if these guys ever miss?. A true masterpiece and might be a stretch, but it's probably gonna be my show of the year pending when HOD and "The Bear S3" both debut that is. 9/10. 9 Likes 1 Share

Baddestguyp:Again, "The battle" wasn't the point of the show, and as you rightly said, that's why the last episode before this was named "Crimson Sky", that was the point of the entire show!. Now i can see why people who haven't read the books might have been mislead, thinking " Crimson Sky" was gonna be one big battle, when infact in the book, James Clavell didn't even go too much in details about the battle and just concluded in an Epilogue with few words, like an afterthought, that Toranaga won the battle, captured Ishido, and sent his disgraced body for public display in Osaka. this was a very brilliant adaptation of the book imo, because i knew exactly what i was expecting, i might add.

Have Modern Family and TBBT lined up right after my current watch, can't believe i haven't seen these 2, especially TBBT, considering how popular it was at one time. "HIMYM" went way down the perking order for me, with that Barney and Robin stunt they pulled towards the end, they totally lost me with that.
