^ and it's so funny because I had those questions at some point in my life too.

I feel sometimes like i'm starting my christian life all over again. It is rewarding to be honest to see Christianity in a different light. It makes going to church on sundays way more meaningful for me esp now that I've changed church. That is not to say that I am a very religious person because i'm far from that. I'm still a baby in terms of my progress.

I think that some people are christians because they were raised in christian homes and there are those who have chosen to be Christians on their own. there comes a point in life where you have to make the decision to follow christ on your own.

Religion / Right Vs Wrong Christianity? by oyinda3(f): 7:56am On Dec 27, 2010
I will start by saying that there are so many things I don't understand yet. So many questions left unanswered for me. My problem (and it took a long time of soul searching and confusion for me to realize this) is that I can't reconcile my christian faith with that of my parents' and the nigerian christian environment i'm in with them. The reason for this dilemma is because I moved abroad and made friends with Christians who seem to be sometimes totally contrary to the ideals of christianity I had with nigerians. It kind of took away my innocence and I became confused as to what Christianity really is. I've grown more since then (in fact I'm still growing) and have figured out that the best way is to take my faith and Christianity personally. It should be strictly between me and my God. Rather than how yoruba culture or whatever culture you're in expects you to define your christianity.

for example, after living in the US for many yrs, I don't believe anymore in nigerian witches. Yes I say nigerian witches because our idea of witchcraft is non-existent and considered mere superstition among many western christians *gasp.* So are they any less christian than we are? Who are the better christians?
sometimes I feel like Nigerian christianity is still a mixture of traditional/pagan beliefs and western christianity. The way we nigerians worship, one would have thought that obanjes and witches populate the verses of the bible. But in reality, there are few if any references to witchcraft accusations and  in the bible. Nigerian christianity is still set in the context of pagan worship. We are always trying to diminish the "powers" of these traditional religions and village demons. If they were indeed powerless, as we often times say, then why are we concentrating all our christian lives to fighting them?
If we can nigerianize our christianity to that extent, why can't i individualize mine? to me, religion is personal and I want to get your opinion on this issue.
Is there is a right or wrong way to be a christian?
For parents living abroad, how do you teach your children in the right path? Have you considered these cultural influences? The fact that they probably don't understand witchcraft or "satanic forces" or some other concepts used in Nigerian christianity.
To me, the reason sunday morning is the most segregated time in America is because of these cultural differences and the way they play into our religious beliefs. The american presbytarian has different ideas from the brazilian roman catholic who in turn is different from the Nigerian CAC or RCCG or cele worshiper.
What is your opinion on the right way of christian life?
Religion / Re: How Can Get Rid Of Eating In My Dreams by oyinda3(f): 7:23am On Dec 27, 2010
I don't see any harm in eating in dreams. I think it's all superstition.

Ileke-IdI:

My mother is deeply, very religious.

She told me that anytime I dream about being offered food in my dreams, I should refuse the food. Wake up and start praying.
But how do you wake yourself up from sleep? I used to have one of these creepy dreams.

Poster, if you believe in God, just pray AS SOON AS YOU WAKE UP.

yea my mom is same. It's annoying sometimes.
dreams are generally a result of events and thoughts before going to sleep. the cases in the bible are special circumstances rather than the norm for the general population.
ex. if u watch a horror movie before bed, the chances are extremely high that u will have a nightmare.

I do pray if I find my dream too abnormal though.

dtw_sola:

^What are you talking? If anything, skinny people probably have stronger (more active) digestive systems. The reason they are skinny is because their body metabolizes food a lot quicker than norm. So even if they overeat, the weight gain is only marginal. @OP, I used to be very skinny (5'10, 130lbs(59kg)), now I'm 145 (66kg) (I'm still kinda skinny, but more muscular). My advice is to eat plenty of lean protein (Chicken, bosom, beef, and fish), and do some heavy lifting (join a gym, or get some dumbbells). You will gain weight if you eat fats and carbs, but all that weight will be fat, and you won't like the results. High protein diet combined with weight training will get you looking cut, and the ladies will be lusting after you. Avoid fats and carbs. Gain muscle, don't gain fat.

I see your point.
digestion and metabolism are two different things though.

for fast metabolism, the solution is to eat more and exercise less. ---> https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-561826.0.html
for poor digestion, it's a whole lot more complex and may even require a trip to the doctor. issues include malabsorption, indigestion, diarrhea etc.

what do u think of somatotyping? it has been called pseudoscience but sometimes I think there is some truth to it. the idea of the body having certain strengths ex. digestive - endomorph, nervous -ectomorph, phsyical - mesomorph.
Health / Re: Tips On Gaining Weight by oyinda3(f): 3:23am On Dec 27, 2010
try eating a good breakfast every morning when you wake up. Eat breakfast everyday. This helps to keep your appetite up throughout the day.

swing4real:

Funny world we live in.One man meat is another man's poison indeed. Most people here would do anything to lose weight while some people wanna gain weight. This is good.Gaining weight is as easy as ABC than losing it.All you need to do if you wanna gain some weight is to eat food full of calories at late hours then sleep off right away. I will assure you will gain weight within a week.

people are different. some find it difficult to gain weight. overeating and late night eating will make you sick and extremely uncomfortable if you don't have a strong digestive system. skinny ppl probably tend to have weaker digestive system which is why they find it hard to gain weight.

maybe the solution will be trying to strengthen the digestive system.

Chrisbenogor:

Well I have tried to raise this thread for a long time, hmm I see Kobo is here again. I refuse to be drawn into the speculation that the west is being used to fight Gbagbo, of  course the west would have interest in that country but I doubt if it would be to destabilize her. Like Ochi has pointed out this borders on the sovereignty of the country to do its elections and choose a leader for itself, but facts right now are that gbagbo lost or at least thats how they painted it. I think he should have stepped down and seek redress in the courts, the manner in which he did it I feel is what is biting him in the backside. It would have been a lot better if he had even rigged the whole election and won, that way the west would only complain that the election was not free and fair, countries like Nigeria would not have the moral standing to say hey leave the position of president. The gymnastics which he had to take to hold on to power is what stinks here. But is that enough to interfere in the countries democracy?

I think the west african bloc has a right to step into the issue if it would bring peace, the reason is simple, if a civil war breaks out in the country as it has in the past we would be the ones to deal with the refugee influx, a lot about international politics is more than just mere speculation. Although I kind of agree that Nigeria has been used to push gbagbo out of power it might just be for the interest of all of us, I mean if we did not step into the situation in liberia where would the country be now? Its a bit dicey but I would lean towards gbagbo conceding power and seeking redress in the courts, if he has done well over the years then his judiciary should return him to power, else he should swallow the bitter pill and come back for reelection like outtara did.

i agree with u

any kind works.

don't stress your acne too much. it's just a temporary phase that will soon pass. give it a year or two. try to eliminate simple sugars from your diet, eat healthy and chillax. ie don't stress.

merry christmas!!!

timi, I will advice you to stop wasting your money on creams. creams cannot "cure" acne. a salicylic acid moisturizer and face wash is enough.
diet is more important than creams IMO.

question for you though: do you have oily skin?

Politics / Re: Selling Off African States To Developed Nations by oyinda3(f): 12:53pm On Dec 24, 2010
sauer:

Okay.
I really don't know how this post will be treated. I read some time about an economist who suggested that independent regions (like Hong Kong) should be created in the world (perhaps in African states) and these should have their own constitutions and should be exclusively administered by developed nations (say, like make Niger State in Nigeria an independent territory to be administered by, say, Britain), more like Hong Kong was. Grants can then be provided for development.
He claims this is the only solution to infrastructural and educational underdevelopment in Africa.
I had thought of this earlier, and of another variation of it where territories can be created in the pacific and Africans who are dissatisfied with their governments can move into these territories which will be governed by foreign powers. Personally I think this is a very good idea; reasons will come later. . . .
What do you guys think of this?

do you even know how silly you sound?
I'm sure you're talking about the TED video. I saw it too and thought it was the most ridiculous thing ever. some people take poo and cover it up with cake icing to make it look good and sell it to ignorant folks.
better don't buy into the scam.

morpheus24:

South Africa is a first world country with its major cities surrounded by third world semi developed townships

The rest of Africa excluding the Magreb does not have the same set up including Zimbabwe and Botswana

is this really your criteria for defining an African country?
So if Ghana's economy improves dramatically tomorrow, Ghanaians will cease to be Africans in your mind?

and since when did SA become a first world country? it's a middle income country at most comparable to maybe cuba or brazil.
