Losing via PK shoot out isnt about formation, its luck
You don't seem to understand my point.
I am not talking about formation here.
The starting point of this discussion was that if Drogba was to play for France instead of switching to ivory cost, that he would have won a world cup like Dembele.
So,I quoted the person to ask which of the world cup he would have won with them out of the two?
You then mentioned 2006 and 2010 .
I am now analyzing to you that he wouldn't have won any of the two you mentioned.
I gave you the reason why he wouldn't have.
But your recent replies shows you are disconnected from the starting point of the discussion.
Nobody is talking about formation being the reason they lost the penalty shoot out.

Somebody trained his private security and used them for protection.
You people are crying and asking about the amount of security available for a private citizen.
Are you guys ok?
Is it government security that is assigned to him?
Is it not his private security guards?
Is he not the one paying them?

I don't know what those in the position of advising the president on policy formulation are even doing.
That Daniel Bwala of Policy communication and Hadiza of policy advisory office, are they the ones that always introduce some of this awkward policies to Mr President?
Most of this policy reforms are so odd and make no sense at all.
If you want to make the NYSC entrepreneurial driven, fine! 3-4 weeks is ok for skill acquisition. Then you use the remaining 2 weeks for military drills.
The military drills always gives the sense of national duty and honour. It foster discipline and promote national values.
If you remove military control in the camp, more than 2/3 of the Corp member in that camp will not attend any of the so called national value class and the skills training.
Who will enforce attendance? The civilian administrators?
Who will obey the civilians?
Nigeria youths that we know?
The government is just wasting its time.

Then ,.........the khaki uniform will be changed to something more cleaner.
Was the Khaki dirty before?
What type of childish reason is this by the policy makers?
The khaki uniform always gives that sense of national pride and patriotism and also serves as a reminder for a call-to-national-duty.
The POP should still be there.
Replacing it with yeye graduation ceremony with a graduation gown doesn't make it look like NYSC again.
For goodness sake, people have been doing graduation right from Nursery to secondary to university.Which other yeye graduation do you want to do for them again?

Then cancelling the Khaki uniform altogether, does it make sense to the government?
That khaki has come to stay as the main identity of the Corp member.
If you don't want them to wear it again, what then will they wear for identification?
Mini skirts and NairaMarley low waist trousers without belt?
Very poor policy reform.

.

SixSeven:
I actually think people need to get that Pop and military training to have a sense of national pride and remember they are reserves for Nigeria if the country is at war.

I remember the BTS who young people are going crazy over. All able-bodied South Korean male citizens must complete approximately 18 to 21 months of mandatory military service by age 28 (or age 30 with a government extension). K-pop idols receive no special exemptions, forcing groups into temporary hiatuses or restructured promotions.

It's a thing of pride to serve your country. It is a mockery to replace this with networking event. Coming out of a military conflict, the government wanted to build a disciplined, loyal, and patriotic youth population. The three-week paramilitary orientation camp style was explicitly chosen to foster resilience, a tradition of hard work, and a mindset prepared for national mobilization if the country ever faced another crisis.

5. No more passing-out parade (POP)
The final march-past in the scorching sun is officially cancelled. Instead, your service year will end with a corporate graduation and career-networking event designed to connect you directly with employers

Why? You have graduated before in your higher institution, you don't need another graduation. The military-style parade is a 50+ year legendary rite of passage. Stripping away the physical display takes away the patriotic, unifying spectacle that defined completion. I can understand that employers will no longer be bound by the limitation of waiting 1 year for the corps members to be hired but I would advise they not remove things that are meant to foster a sense of service to the fatherland. Arise o compatriots... Sorry, old anthem grin
You have spoken well.
Cancelling khaki for what reason exactly?

They lost via PK in 2006
I know nah! But as soon as Zidane was sent off for headbutting Metarazzi, French team was demoralized. They are never gonna win Italy even if Drogba was to be around to also play the penalty shoot out.
The truth is that, the period Drogba was in form and active from 2003 to 2015, French National Team was in disarray. After their 1998 world cup triumph in their home soil and their exploit in Euro 2000,they didn't have any formidable team again until that 2018 set running till now.
My point is that, even if Drogba had joined them in that his hay days instead of Ivory Coast,he wouldn't have still won any world cup as you would have made us believe bcuz that period, French National Team was facing a lot of challenges and mired with controversy.
Remember Frank Rubbery,Benzema,Sami Nasiri,Nicolas Anelka and many more controversies and saga in the camp in preparation for a major tournament?

You cant use Sweden as a yardstick.

They just came to make up the number
So is Paraguay that knocked out Germany better than Sweden?
Beside, they have played with some other strong team in the group stage and shoved all of them aside.Senegal is African champion and was defeated by France.Thwy also played against Norway and defeated them too.It was only Iraq that wasn't a football nation in their group.
Watch other big European teams like Holland, Spain, England, Germany , Portugal,Crotia and Belgium, they all struggle to score goals. France is the only one among them that score goals with ease.

SON- MARCUS THURAM
Very very informative!
I really enjoyed the thread.
You try for the info.Even as a football fan from my childhood till now,I didn't know some of their fathers played in the world cup tournament before.
I watched France 98 as a JSS2 student then and I can still remember most of those players clearly.
Hallaan of Norway,Deogo Simeone of Argentina, Zinedine Zidane of France, Lilian Thuram of France expecially for his 2 goals against Crotia in the semi final.
Then I watched others in 2002 and 2006.
But one I never knew is that Anthony Elanga father despite the fact that Nigeria played against them in the 2002 world cup group match were the won us 2:1.
Henry Lasson is the main guy I can still remember for that their squad that tormented our defense.
Kudos to them all.
But why don't we have anyone from Africa?
Too badddd!

Nigeria don do Ghana must go before
These policies are right sometimes for some countries
Of course you can't understand such necessary steps.
I guess you're my fellow Nigerian with just different view

So we should not complain, go and read better about lots of countries that have done such and some such as America self are part of the recent

Sometimes hard choice to clean the country are strongest to make

We self suppose do Niger must go with all those illegal Niger people coming in from the north
No, Nigerians have never done that to Ghana. In fact ,no country has ever done that to any immigrant. It is only South Africa that has been doing and still doing it to the immigrants.Even the America you just mentioned has not done such illegality to any immigrants.
The "Ghana Must Go" saga we heard was not done by touts in the street of Lagos, Calabar,Enugu,Ibadan,Kaduna or Kano.It was done by the government to enforce immigration laws.Even when Ghana did it to us first,it was done by their government.
The America own you talked about is done by ICE (government).
You don't allow a country's law to be enforced by ordinary citizens. There will be chaos.
Nobody is against any country for enforcing its immigration law to checkmate illegal immigrants. But it should be done by the state authority otherwise it is criminality itself.
So what is happening in South Africa currently now is criminality by street touts and not any government immigration crackdown.
So,note the difference when next you are talking or comparing the immigration crackdown from different countries of the world.

From the video commentary,I can boldly say those calling for investigation, waiting for government of South Africa to do something about Xenophobic attacks are very stewpid.
The government of South Africa who are tactically supporting zenophobia are the same people you guys are waiting for to take action to protect you?
Una mu.mu never do?

And those of you attributing this death to cultism or drug related, you are all as stewpid as those expecting government of South Africa to come to their rescue.
Have you forgotten that today is the deadline given by those primitive men for all black foreigners to leave their country?
So any black immigrants found in the street of South Africa today is a target for brutal elimination.Any Nigeria man opening his shop today, those heartless violent people will give him the same treatment they have given to this one in an attempt to open his shop.
I pity the one in last week video arguing with the headless mob that he can't leave the country bcuz he has papers, pay tax to government, employed 25 South Africans in his Firm. And those killersss made it clear to him, that their target is not illegal immigrants only but entire black foreign nationals whether legal or illegal. That they don't want to come back and see him in the shop again.
So if it's stubborn and still open his shop today 30th being the last day given, you think those people will spare his life if they catch in that his shop today?
If they kpai him in that shop, fooolsss will flood Nairaland saying it is not zenophobia related. That is Vikings vs Blackaxe war in Nigeria that kpai him or that it's his fellow drug cartel men that is responsible. What a deluded fellows!!

Travel › Re: World Cup Fans Frustrated By 'confusing And Expensive' Tipping Culture In US by Pacesetter123(m): 3:48pm On Jun 29
Kobojunkie:
1. What you have in Nigeria is not the same as this tipping culture, which is regulated in the U.S Department of Labor.

2. Basically, tipping culture in "Saner climes" is government-regulated, voluntary, and almost non-predatory compared to that which you find in Nigeria. undecided

3. From your story, are we to guess that the lady in question is an employee of the supermarket and her job is to help carry baskets around? If that is the case, does the establishment implement a tipping system? Or did you just assume that maybe her pay depended on your tipping her for the time she spent following you around the store? I am not certain how you arrived at comparing that situation to the one in, say, the US. Or Canada. undecided

4. Your point is moot! Again, tipping culture is not implemented by all businesses in the U.S. or Canada. For instance, you do not go to the hospital to tip your nurse or doctor; your mechanic, airport worker, or police do the same. In such cases, your "tips" may be considered taxable gifts or bribes. undecided

5. Nigerian begging, or the "Oga, find me something, abeg!" culture is not the tipping culture we dey discuss for here! undecided
It is the same thing.
Whether Nigeria, Canada or US, tipping or expectation of it after service rendered is still tipping.
The begging you are talking about in your point 5 is not what we are talking about here too.
That one is for politicians and their Loyalists or a policeman on the road.
"Oga find me something,Oga your boys are loyal..oo,Oga I dey hail..oo" is not what we are talking about here.
Those ones are not called tippings.
The one I am talking about here is, you go a restaurant for instance, the server come to your and greeted you very politely, then begin to list what they have in their menu in a very courteous and snappy manner.
because of how courteous she/he was , couple with the fact that you already know how meagre her salary might be, you just gifted her a little money or leave a balance of your bill for her out of appreciation for the nice services rendered.
That is what we call tipping.
Then in the case of the supermarket girl I was talking about, she is one of the staff there.
They are like 4 or 5 in numbers and are found inside in different row of the half since it's a large supermarket.Their work there is to help customers identify the row they can quickly find some items if such a customer ask for it.They also help in bringing the goods from inner warehouse for a restock.
So for her to help me carry the basket,it was just out of courtesy and good customer relations. It wasn't her statutory duty.
So,I have to appreciate her voluntarily.
And it is the same thing the article was saying about the tipping system in the US.
In short, theirs was even more weird than some of Nigeria own.
Like somebody buying a bottle of water in a shop and the sale girl ask you for a tip like one of the football fans was telling the BBC.
So whether it is government regulated or not, serving in some certain establishment like Bar,Hotel, Supermarket,Banks, Airport, etc and asking, expecting or collecting a "gifts" after service is tipping no matter how look at it.
And like I said earlier, tipping such class of workers is not bad.
But what I will condemn is making it compulsory.
It should be voluntary.

I feel Nigerians took the First lady's comments out of context and we know those behind it.. they hate anything Yoruba and will go any length to slander the President.

We shouldn't forget that not everyone is skilled (graduate), some are semi-skilled while others are unskilled workers. I feel the First lady's comment was for the unskilled to make a living for themselves.

That's a potential value chain with great prospect.. beans farming, processing and grinding of beans, those who make the akara and those who make kulikuli (has potential for export).
Our people have become too foolish and we just hurry to criticize any thing.
Are you sure you have read this article at all?
The Op did a simple breakdown of the cost of starting Akara business, and the money amounted to about 63k.
But the first lady offered them 50k to start the business.
So the question sane Nigerians are asking is,is 50k enough to start Akara business?
The Op cost analysis shows it is grossly inadequate.
Instead of you to argue based on that line, you jumped to tribal bruhaha.
Did the thread say Akara business is not profitable or that people should not do it?
What's wrong with some of you sef?

Total and complete nonsense.

Every one of us have seen it before. Even those who have not seen it face to face have seen it before.

Politicians go there to eat every election season, in order to identify with the people and the photos and videos are everywhere. Everybody knows this.

That's why I don't take the people that talk about gas cylinder and paid place and bag of beans seriously. They are not serious people so they shouldn't be taken seriously.

Just like the people that talk about government money. Those ones will entertain me tomorrow.

Look below, do you see any gas cylinder or paid place or bag of beans? These people are just entertainers and their only purpose is to entertain me.
You are equally an entertainer to people like us too.
Even if there is no gas cylinder in the pictures you posted,do you see number of equipment/materials used by each of them in producing the akara?
What is the monetary values of those equipment in today's Nigeria economy for a starter?
It is mockery and humiliation for the government official of that profile to give any woman 50k to start akara business.
