gofigurena: Anyway, long story short, another dealer offered me the 2013 Acura MDX for 12.5 million. I didn't have that cash at the time and couldn't return to Lagos until November. My uncles encouraged me to make part payment on it instead of just going home like that. I was hesitant due to fear of being played but I eventually agreed. I deposited 10 million on the SUV, leaving a balance of 2 million which I promised to bring on the first week of November. This is a photo of the one I paid for. My uncle took the picture with his yeye phone. I didn't even know when he took it.
Hello gofigurena, my sincere prayer for you is that this story ends well and you get value for your hard end money but to be honest my heart sank when I read that you made a deposit without going with the car.
I am going to write my post in two parts - 1, The mistakes you made. 2, your best options going forward
Mistakes 1. never trust online car dealers, there might be one or two honest ones but the feedback are usually overwhelmingly bad
2. Never rush to buy a car - it's a major investment that you would have spent a long time saving for, so Even if it takes 5 trips to lagos to buy, it is worth it. That idea of I don't want to go back without a car should be far from your mind. If neccessary go back 5 times until you are completely satisified with what you find
3. Never allow people (especially those who have not made that level of funds) tell you how and when to spend your money. I am so sure that Uncle of yours does not have a 10M and has probably never bought a car of that range. It's easy for them to encourage you take that risk so flippantly. If things go south, the worst they'll say is -heyya
4. Never make deposits for cars, if it doesn't involve you taking it home immediately. I am sure they will tell you someone is coming to pay that night or the next morning if you don't deposit - let them do so. There are at least 1 billion cars on this planet, you can always find another one
This is more of an advice for someone else in future who might want to purchase their first car. but for you, my advice on the way forward is
Way forward 1. Try all your best, consult any and every source to raise the balance of the funds IMMEDIATELY. Time is against
2. Once you get the funds, immediately jump on the next bus to Lagos and go to meet the dealers (DO NOT INFORM THEM BEFOREHAND that you are coming)
3. Go with at least two people, just to prepare for any unforeseen (even though we pray it doesn't get to that). One should be a force man, either soldier, police, navy nscdc etc. You can just introduce him casually as your former classmate or your brother in law in lagos or something like that, but I can bet the car dealers will get the message. The second person should be a proper mechanic, not your uncle but someone who is familiar with dealing with newly bought cars.
We will be following up on your story. What you did in an ideal society is okay, even in Northern Nigeria, it's normal but Lagos is a jungle filled with animals masquerading as humans.
Note - Please dead the idea of waiting till November, please don't try it
HerrDamilord: A man in Kano went to a foodseller. He had not eaten in 3 days. He begged the seller for food on credit.
The foodseller told him he’s very sorry and he would like to help but too many people in the neighbourhood have collected food on credit and his business is sinking.
The man sat there and said nothing.
As time went on, other people came into the shop to buy foodstuff and went out- they noticed the man at the door sitting there sleeping. But nobody bothered.
Until one man came later in the day and asked the foodseller: “who is the man sitting at your door?” “Why is he there?”
Then the foodseller said “oh it’s a man who says he has not eaten for 3 days and he wants to collect food on credit but I could not give him because my business is struggling from all the credit I have already given out”.
Then the other man said: “How much is the food he wants?”
The food seller said “It’s a few cups of garri, rice and beans. Everything may be 2,000 naira”.
The other man said “Alright pack everything he wants and more. I would pay for it. Let him go home to his family and eat”.
The foodseller packed all the food and went outside to tell the man with joy that someone has paid for his food.
He saw the man still sleeping. He tapped him to wake him up, he didn’t respond. Tapped him again, nothing.
The man had died. He died sitting and waiting for help.
This happened just few days ago in Badawa, Kano. Some people who live in that area know this story.
The man was dead all along while people were coming in and out of the shop thinking he was sleeping.
He died hopeless. He died helpless. He died a man who his country failed.
If you know anyone in this period who is hungry around you and you can afford a little food or money to give him/her, please do.
Many people are walking the streets with an empty stomach.
Similar thing happened to an Almajiri boy near the gate of an estate last month in Jaba, Kano He went to sleep in front of the estate in the evening, it was the next evening when someone observed the boy had been lying there since the previous day that they went to check and found him dead
What kids need at this stage is guidance, they understand very little rather than give the impression that life is a popularity contest from a young age
Since there's a development commission for South, North, East and now West. It means we are now back to status quo. Let us just absorb all of them back to the FG cos they are now just unnecessary recurrent expense head on the budget and conduits for corruption.
The only option for travelers seeking to leave Yola now is to divert at Ngurore junction and connect Jalingo-Numan road to burst out at Numan and continue the Journey onwards Gombe.
The problem with that route is not even the distance but the fact that those roads are probably the worst in the whole of Nigeria
From a normal(Philosophical) standpoint, she hasnt done anything wrong. The ex-husband is gone, why would u put your enjoyment on hold to honor a dead person that doesnt even know anything anymore
From a cultural POV, she's wrong.
Its why Our cultures and traditions should be followed even when they seem illogical to us. They may not really mean anything serious but they still do mean something serious
Therefore, Shes right and wrong and her apology is both needed and needless
From a "Philosophical" point, you would have realised she could not even be bothered to be by his side in his dying moments and was not willing to honor him when he was alive and sick
thesicilian: It's like there's a monarch in every street in the West.
Title is a bit of a click bait. He isn't technically a monarch. Riverine communities are often grouped in small cluster of houses and each cluster will have a Baale who answers to a larger authority somewhere.
Tokskob2008: Instead of foodstuffs to get cheaper because we now rely on local production it got more expensive.
Which gains have the local production witnessed for the past 9yrs
God bless you abundantly for this.
The goal of all this ban on importation was to improve the economy, create more jobs and make food cheaper cos they are locally produced.
But what do we witness? The economy has gone from bad to worse, unemployment is sky high and most food items have had tenfold increase in price since the domestication process began. So why should we stick with what is clearly not working ?
Infact, bringing down the cost of food will lead to lower unemployment because consumers will now have disposable income to patronise other businesses
naptu2: 9) Marco van Basten 8 ) Pele 10) Diego Maradona 7) Lionel Messi 11) Cristiano Ronaldo 6) Franz Beckenbauer 4) Paolo Maldini 5) Franco Baresi 3) Roberto Carlos 2) Giuseppe Bergomi 1) Gianluigi Buffon
Coach: Arrigo Sacchi
The attacking line up in this team will score an average of 10 goals per match ? killer setup
naptu2: I am in love with the strike force of your second team. Van Basten is my all-time football hero. Romario (I'll never forget Man-U vs Barcelona (1994 season Champions League). Honourable mention goes to (Mr) George Weah.
I'll be back with my list.
Naptu2, this is from 12 years ago. You never replied with your list.
Still waiting bro.
For me, the only (painful) change I'll make is to put CR7 on the left attack and move Cryuff to team 2
A 13 year old Wisdom Hasimu has committed suicide after allegedly being brutalised by a Soldier and members of the civilian JTF over an accusation that he stole N10k from the Soldier's 16 year old girlfriend.
The case is said to be with the Kaduna state Police command but I guess this story should get some publicity so that it does not get swept under the carpet.
The incident happened some days ago and was reported by channels TV yesterday
melodyogonna: what's all this noise about haskell recently how is it better than languages that are both functional, procedural and object oriented at thesame time like python and c++?
Python (my primary language) implements certain functional concepts but it is not a purely functional language. It still primarily imperative.
naptu2: That's just the Super 6. There is a regular season (the teams are divided into 2 groups of 8 ), then the top 6 teams at the end of the regular season play a Super 6 competition to determine the winner of the league.
The French League does something similar with their Super 4 Playoff.
