I don already apologized to those who pointed this out.yes ,majek was the no1 spot on the list actually!ihow can anyone even forget majek? someone the Bob Marley family in Jamaica almost believed was a reincarnation of Marley himself! problem is that majek was in a class of his own,so comparing with others regae artiste doesn't make sense to me .the only other two artiste that even come close to doing pure regae is Wiliki and Victor Essiet (Mandators)kimono, Daniel Wilson only did what we called Ragamuffin (a type of dancehall)but not real regae tune like majek.though majek improvised by creating a unique style he called Pangolo, adding talking drum, and some other instruments .what later befell him remains something that pain me to this day!such a huge loss of personality and talent !we shall always love MF! thanks for reminding me jare

He didn't confuse ugbo kingdom with igbo. The newspapers and bloggers do. There is this tussle between the Olugbo if Igbo kingdom, Oba Akinruntan (owner of OBAT OIL) and Ile - Ife. The history has a link with Morèmi and Olu Orogbo. The Igbo kingdom is in Ondo state. All ignorant people here throwing insults at the revered monarch are both ignorant and stupid.
The Olugbo of Igbo kingdom came out with his own story as well as Oba of Benin, about Ifẹ and yorubas. When bloggers and media people that lack the proper training of journalism do shoddy jobs they misinform people.

Before the creation of States, the Ijebus were considered the closest yoruba subgroup to the Ilajes.
Ijebus and Ilajes typically use the 'u' sound in place of 'i'. e.g. Ule, Ushu

Ugbo is Igbo. They inhabited everywhere in lower Niger with the Oru who are now Ijaw before other people arrived. As at then there was no definition of ethnic groups as we have them today. The world as at then resonated around Oru and Ugbo who were same people but difference was just water and land habitation. The Ugbos when displaced migrated down to join their Oru brothers in Riverine areas which weren't of interest to various invading groups.
The Ugbos are a sub group of the Ilaje ethnic group along with Mahin, Aheri and others

Many people experience motion sickness. It's just that it varies in degree and severity from persons to persons.
For me, it's always severe when I m travelling mid day (when the sun is out). It usually comes with headache and dizziness. The only remedy I have adopted is to just to close my eyes and place my fore head on the car's front seat. Then, I will force myself to nap. I don't press phone or read books while travelling as that might trigger and aggravate the feelings.

Some commercial drivers suggested that I should swallow few drops of petrol before travelling. It is weird. What if I explode?

Samantha124:
1. Car sickness... If I'm traveling long distances, especially in the morning, I get sick... I start sweating, having short breath, getting nauseous and eventually throwing up... Same thing happens when I perceive the smell of cigarettes/weed.

Last time I threw up due to traveling long distances was this past Saturday, I had no choice because some things just had to be done in the morning, especially on weekends... As I was driving, I felt my condition getting worse but I had to keep driving because already I was running late... It was only when I felt that I couldn't keep up anymore that I parked on the roadside and threw up... I stayed outside the car for a while for some fresh air.

When I reached my destination, I started feeling better and the nausea started to suppress, only for this old man who smelled a cigarette/weed to come my way, I tolerated the smell hoping that he'll leave, but he just kept talking non-stop... The smell triggered the nausea again and before I knew it, I threw up for the second time... But fortunately, I had a sickness bag inside my hand bag because I always prepare myself for such situations whenever I'm traveling long distances.

It's like it runs within the family because I'm told that my maternal grandmother used to have the same condition, my aunt and sister are also experiencing the same thing... We have car sickness.

2. Nosebleeding... Like car sickness, this is something I've struggled with since I was a child... I could be playing, eating, sleeping, or just sitting back and doing nothing and my nose would just start bleeding... It used to be more frequent when I was a child, but as I got older it decreased to a point that I can now go a very long time without nose bleeding... But now some of my sisters' kids are experiencing the same problem.

Just last night I was talking to my 8 years old nephew over a video call when I noticed something coming out of his nose and it was blood... The boy wasn't even sick.

I've never met anyone outside of my family who can relate to having these two conditions... So I'm just curious to know if there's anyone who can relate in here.
Hi, Samantha, I can relate with number 1 - everybody in my family aside my dad and one of my siblings suffer from it. Let me make some interesting points about it (It's affected us so long that I have researched about it cheesy)

1. Formally, it is usually referred to as "motion sickness"

2. You won't believe it - it is usually caused by less than perfect hearing - the issue starts in your inner ear (crazy, I know)

3. one solution (if you are travelling with trusted companions) is not to sleep the night before the long trip. You'll doze off once the car moves and probably wake up when close to destination. Infact, the defense I have built for the condition is, once I am inside a car and not driving, I fall asleep almost immediately

4. If forced to stay awake, Use a lot of mint, strong mint. Infact my strongest concoction is putting freegel (extra strong mint ) in bitter lemon

5. This goes without saying, no matter how hungry, do not eat shortly before or during a trip. Motion sickness is known to sometimes trigger diarrhea. Always empty your bowels, if you need to, before a trip.

I had a flat tyre along Gwaram, a town between Bauchi and Gombe.
It was around past 9pm but the roads were already deserted and again, it was during the thick of Boko Haram attacks and kidnappings.

I just got down from the car, and went to stand behind some trees by the road, none of the drivers passing stopped, after about 10 mins, I saw one of this heavy Trailers approaching, so I ran to stand in front, waiving frantically.

Typical nice Hausa people, the boys came down, helped me to fix my spare and I gave them a thank you N1k and we were both on our way

No, I am not talking about the main exit at airport junction.

Once you exit the main terminal, there is a road to your right, about 200/300 meters away, close to the location where the food joints are now.

At that side, Taxis no longer charge ridiculously. Last time I came to Abuja, I paid 4k or so to Lugbe, where I typically stay whenever in Abuja cos of more affordable hotels

Lol.

If you're not proactive enough to arrange for a pick-up cab before boarding your flight from wherever to Abuja, your name na sorry be that. Because e-hailing cabs almost always never accept rides from airport clients. Abuja residents will understand.
This is because the union or association at the airport will demand they make a ridiculous fee for picking passengers which will undermine whatever profit they will make from the ride itself.

The situation is so bad that when I do not have much luggage, I walk down towards the exit road which allows me negotiate at regular abuja taxi rate rather than airport rate. For me, this ban is a good development and to the benefit of the passengers

Your statistic may justify a particular location but cannot serve as a yardstick to classify one as a middle class.
My Location:
Rent : 360k (2 bed flat in a Middle class area)
Power : 60k (Prepaid meter@5k monthly)
Petrol/Diesel (car, business home) :
Break down (petrol): Car -15k weekly = 780k
Home - 10k weekly = 520k Install 2.5kva inverter with 450k to last for 3 years i.e 150k per year
Businesses - 30k weekly I don't understand this. Fuel for business is an overhead cost and should vary positively with Profit , this does not fit for a salary earner
Total for petrol : 2.86m 930k
Feeding : 1.08m at 3k daily
Miscellaneous : 1.5m for a single person this is high. 50k monthly is okay. i.e 600k per annum
Village People problems : 1m No go dey do pass your self; 300k is fine

Total is 3.33m...
500k monthly salary for 1 year is 6m.
you will have excess of 2m at the end of the year to invest in other sources of income.

From the faith inspiring messages in 2007 before, during and after the Accessment center, to the anticipation of success letters, to the emotional outbursts of some persons...or is it the fightings and later intellectual convos? Or the romantic innuendos or the constant need to keep the thread alive??

You guys surely made an impact on me!!!

Thanks for your kind words about the thread.

This thread made me active on Nairaland.

It was the early days of phone based internet access in Nigeria, so most of our chats were typed via computers/laptops, hence the reason we were so expressive back then.

However, I get a bittersweet feeling visiting here cos one of the active guys was my room mate during youth service and we lost him 9 years ago

I am really enjoying your thread.

I love traveling but have some limitations.

Aside the south east, I have spent at least a day in all the states of Nigeria except Yobe and Kebbi.

And I have visited most of our near neighbors, Cameroon, Ghana, Benin, Togo.

But I have had difficulty visiting outside the country - declined visas twice.

Money isn't much of a problem for me, I run a successful startup but time certainly is, I am not always in Lagos and Abuja where most embassies are based and can't follow thru the onerous visa processes.

What advice do you give for me to push my adventures beyond the shores of Nigeria and Africa?

Christianity EtcRe: Let The Dead Bury The Dead (What Jesus Actually Meant?) by pak: 8:45am On Jun 19, 2022
ekineme:
Let the Dead Bury the Dead: A Matter of Priority
“First let me go and bury my father.”

When you think of burials today, our process is rather straightforward. A person dies and within days there is usually a funeral. Once the funeral is complete, you go to the gravesite and proceed with burying the body. This is typically done within the same day or at most the funeral is one day and the burial the next. Regardless of how it’s done, the process isn’t long and drawn out, and is completed within a short span of time.

This man’s situation was a little bit different. For starters, the man’s father wasn’t dead yet. In Jesus’ day the statement this man made had a completely different meaning than it would have today. In his article, Billy Graham explains what the man is really saying: Jesus I will follow you but first let me stay with my father, until he dies. I am not sure how long that will take but once that happens then I will bury him. When that is done then I will come and follow you.

There is something else this man may have been considering…his inheritance. It’s possible this man was waiting to claim an inheritance from his father. So he wasn’t just saying he wanted to wait until his father died. He was also saying – Lord I have some money coming to me and I want to secure my financial future. Once that happens, I will be ready and at that time I will come and follow you. It was a matter of priority.

Regardless of the primary reason – this man was hesitant in following Jesus. He felt there was something more important for him to do right now. He was telling Jesus I will get back to you later. Following Jesus was important but it wasn’t important enough. His priorities were out of order and Jesus recognized it.

A Matter of Urgency
“Let the dead bury their own dead.”

Now that we have some context, let’s see what else Jesus was pointing out in this man. This man not only had his priorities out of order, what he also missed was a sense of urgency. He made the false assumption that he could leave today and come back later and follow Jesus. Countless people have assumed that they could put off following Jesus until later, but later never comes. Either they get sucked up in the cares of this life or some unfortunately die before they revisit the opportunity. Following Jesus is not only a matter of priority, it is a matter of urgency.

I wish it was possible to push this response to the 1st page of this thread.

Christianity EtcRe: Let The Dead Bury The Dead (What Jesus Actually Meant?) by pak: 8:34am On Jun 19, 2022
Jesus wasn't against burial.
The covenant fathers - Abraham, Isaac, Jacob etc were all buried according to Jewish tradition.
The disciples of John buried him after he was killed, Even Jesus was buried by Joseph Aritmea after crucifixion.

The phrase must be placed in context, the disciple was seeking to follow Jesus but there was a 'BUT' - He wanted to put the burial of his father

And another of his disciples said unto him, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father. Matt 8 v 21.

And that was what made Jesus give the response - Jesus is THE LIFE and outside him, everything represents spiritual death, so you cannot put anything before him.

Another angle is, many scholars believe the statement also implied that the man was trying to sort out his inheritance first (bury my father) before following Jesus, meaning Jesus was actually indicating that you cannot put carnal, wordly, dead things ahead of the call of God.

It has absolutely nothing to do with Owo Massacre if you understand the context

The game (quoted in the orginal post) was Nigeria vs Togo in late 1990, opening match for the 1992 Nations cup qualifier.
That was the fisrt cap for both Dimeji Lawal and Mutiu Adepoju, who had been promoted from the junior teams by Westerhoof.

Nigeria was actually leading by two goals and the game had started to become boring, the crowds began to sing - all we are saying, we need more goals.

Westerhoof brought in Dimeji and in just a few minutes, he dribbled two Togolese defender, then slipped but still managed to shoot from the ground and scored. I remembered getting to school the next day and getting into an argument with a class mate who felt Dimeji was better than Diego Maradona and only racism and being black held him back from getting the right recognition. I told him Dimeji wasn't even the best player in Nigeria and would probably continue starting from the bench.

Anyway, Dimeji Lawal was never able to recreate that moment for the SUper Eagles

Anyway, I mentioned the first name that came to my head afterwards, the head of the panel looked down at the proposal in front og him and said - but I have a different name here.
