Hello, I am currently studying for a masters degree in GIS @ unilorin. Reading through your post one line caught my attention, you will like to go into academics (lecturing) right? Now, GIS is a professional course that exposes you to how geographical/spatial data can be used to solve human problems with great precision. Because it is professional, most specialists do not take on PHD studies and I doubt if any Nigerian university offers one, so if you venture into academics, you might most likely hit a 'glass ceiling' mid way into your career.
But if you decide to go professional, then you must make certain of one thing, just like other professionals you need to be good at what you do and then am sure you will make it because gis is increasing in its relevance to most industries ranging from oil, telecoms and banking to urban planing,environmental management and surveying.
As for the universities offering pgdgis/mgis courses, you have a lot to choose from unilorin, unilag, u.I etc.
Duration for pgdgis is 12months with a maximum of 18months and the cost ranges from 200-250k

@chiborado, lyk u rightly said d prevailing conditions determine your questions. But dssc questions may be diff frm ssc cos dssc r for proffessional, and ssc is for combatants. So dssc sud prepare for questions relating to dia field and ssc may be more of general and current questions. In all, make sure u radiate confidence in answering the questions. Enjoy.

calabaman: Oga BB i can hardly see what u wrote. But let me brk it down for u! Expect a medical/oral/written/physical test. The medical test comprises of Blood test, xray, body mass Index, herpatitis B among others. Oral test: in which u would face a panel of captains/majors and asked some questions in which u wud be expected to ansa boldly. Written: doesnt need andy explanation. Lastly physical: here u would be expected to run 3.5km in 15mins, pass thru an obstacle course, frog jumping, pushups (so u better be fit). I wish u all d best! Cheers

I dont think it will be capts and majors o, cos d lowest officer on d airforce panel is a wing commander.

Guys, d tests i listed above were all carried out at d airforce base by airforce medical officials, so we were nt required to bring any report. As for d army parole, N.A are just being silly 'cos ppl wil end up bringing falsified med report. However, pls don't relent. Call d numba beneath d published list for enquiry.

Congrats on ur army call up. As for d race, it was fyn doe i dont think it was up to 3.5km. But am sure army race wil be atleast 3.5km. Now to the medicals, d test were numerous so i wil just mention a few. Blood & urine test, flat foot, body mass index, eye & teeth check, xray etc. N.B, any of dese test can screen u out. @calabaman, once u pass d meds just pray for favour in ur interview. We'l all get to d top.

Guyz, dia is no reason 4 me to give u false info. Som ppl joined us in kd. In my state for e.g one guy joined us. The suplementary list gave d selectn board serious prob dt dey had to conduct d same test we wrote durin d zonal enlistment just to aid in screening out ppl. Som ppl were also screend out by d medical results. So guyz am sure of wat am saying.
