Christianity EtcRe: Why The Idea of God Is A Fraud by PalmTree(m):
Ooman has made some valid points from an atheist perspective, in fact even as a xtain I sometimes ask myself such questions as the "eden issue" because it seems predetermined to me. Why should I be punished for what destiny already has in store for me? @strictlymi, I usually enjoy your posts but sir, as regards this issue, you need to conceptualize it first from the OP's standpoint and then yours, so that we can strike a balance. That said, please kindly answer these questions, did GOD pre design how we will live our lives or he just knows how things will churn out for all and sundry? If your answer is a yes to any of the 2 questions, then you will understand ooman's submission. Secondly your analogy of the child spoiling the t.v does not do justice to the issue on ground. Sir, here is a better one... If you possess the ability to write the fate of your child, and then you already programmed it such that on that fateful day he will spoil the t.v set... Is it logical for you to discipline the kid or stress the fact that the kid had options to choose from? I believe what I explained is similar to what ooman has been trying to send across. Now, I will appreciate if you explain your views with respect to the issues stated. Thanks

Ihedinobi: @op

Two questions:

1. When is this "long ago" that God knew things that would happen?

2. Based on what do you make your arguments?
Perhaps you need to go through the thread again for better comprehension, especially your second question.

oiseworld: your eye dey red gan ni...
Ok, I can't tell exactly whose voice the op heard, either Gods voice through the man of God (his spirit bearing witness) or just the voice of a man holding the mic. if God had spoken through the man of God, then don't ask how he expected them to get home, he knows how to take them home. Its people like you that asked Moses where he was leading them to after the Israelite left Egypt. you would have asked God how he wanted Abraham to survive when he asked him to leave his fathers house.

You would have asked Elijah how he expected the woman at the well to survive after Elijah told her to make the him the last meal she had.
Gentleman, what exactly are you insinuating? You just agreed that you are not sure if it was Gods voice the OP heard through the pastor or not. So you mean there will be a mysterious bus waiting to convey the penniless fellas home? If you wouldn't have questioned any of the prophets you mentioned above, why haven't you emptied your account and credit all your savings to mine after all I told you that I'm also a prophet? Oh, you don't want to be stu pid by sending me your savings but you see nothing wrong with the OP emptying his purse right? Once you stop your hypocrisy, you'll see exactly as other posters
Christianity EtcRe: Common Tactics Used By Invited Speaks In Church Programs by PalmTree(m): 3:27pm On Apr 03, 2013
oiseworld: Christianity is not stupidity, neither does it give room for foolishness.
Thanks bro.
My point exactly, how then did you not see anything wrong in what the invited speaker told that congregation including the OP? The OP said they were told to empty their purses! How does he expect the poor fellas to get home? Tell me, are you of the opinion that its not a stupid game? Would you have emptied your purse if you were present? Good Sir, there is no need to mince words, like Goshen rightly said, God wants a cheerful giver not a coerced one. Honestly, I'm perplexed that you find my analogy stu pid since you gave credence to the invited pastor because we basically said the same thing.

oiseworld: Thank God you added the bolded, but u forgot to say the spirit of God in you is the paramount. Even the devil knows and understands the Bible in and out;page by page cover to cover.

Knowing the bible is one, gettig an understanding through the spirit is another and the key Thing.

i believe the young man at that point was carried away by the spirit of God and he gave all he had.
For starters, not every one who claims to be a pastor is actually one, so to say that one must follow whatever any pastor says hook line and sinker just to show obedience even when like the op, the individual is not convinced, is a fatal error. If I claim to be a pastor and then I demand in God's name that you empty your account and credit all to mine, will you? After all in your own words, you will have obeyed the servant of the Lord (Me). Now if you object to this then its hypocrisy, thus you previous submissions are invalid. Shalom

Logicboy03: But then, both the bible and Quran have violent passages......
You obviously ignored the part where I said "allowing our conscience attain optimal functionality"?
Christianity EtcRe: The Cowardice Of Atheism by PalmTree(m): 9:07pm On Feb 17, 2013
We need to be careful as to the sides we take here. In nigeria, many people make their decisions along religious lines and even within xtainity people discriminate. Personally have seen a Jehovah witness ostracize his kids for going penticostal, I have seen penticostal xtains frown at celestial and C&S members. If this can happen within christaindom, then imagine what lies in store for an atheist who dares profess to it. The line "do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers" is commonly used to validate this actions. For islam, the lesser said, the better. So please if an atheist says he wants to keep his disbelief private, let's respect that. It might not be cowardice because some things are better kept secret to save family ties. If I were to become an atheist, I dare not tell my mum or any one for that matter (cos my mum will eventually get the news) because my mum will pass out immediately, family ties might also be severed, I hope you all get my drift. Logicboy claims to have told his UK friends about his beliefs but not his Naija friends either home or abroad, I don't think its hypocritical, I think he knows them and he can guess their reactions and the overall effect of such actions. Thanks
Christianity EtcRe: A Humble Truth About Atheism That Shames Many Theists by PalmTree(m): 8:29pm On Feb 17, 2013
You know Logicboy, I'm gonna have to agree with you on this, but let me bring this perspective, if we allow our conscience and morals to attain optimum functionality, we might be one step in the right direction to achieving global world peace! If my pastor tells me to do what conflicts with my conscience or my imam tells me to blow some building up, I should be able to discern on my own... Hmmm, the question is would we?
Christianity EtcRe: A Humble Truth About Atheism That Shames Many Theists by PalmTree(m): 8:20pm On Feb 17, 2013
Logicboy03: Yep, the truth is that helping others and doing good should be done from the heart and not a religious duty.

one should be an atheist when doing good. Dont do it because your religion tells you so, do it because the deed is good...from your heart smiley
Like morals before religion kinda stuff? As an individual I do things according to my conscience, objectivity in all things

The difference between MGIS and MscGIS depends on the institution, some schools adopt the academic aspect of GIS hence MscGIS, while others prefer the professional aspect hence MGIS. However they basically do the same thing.
Christianity EtcRe: To Avoid Being Banned, Please Ensure That Your Post Is Not Offensive To Islam. by PalmTree(m): 7:12pm On Feb 15, 2013
deols: well right you keep mentioning mac. I bet he has been a mod and not d only mod on this forum who does his job of banning offenders. I havent always agreed with him so ur claim that no one puts him in check doesnt hold.

I ave always bee of the opinion that the christians should be left to show the whle world how very 'tolerant'they are. and like you said, they should be allowed to showcase their stupidity but this stupidity is disallowed by the forum rules. I will follow the rules first and then use my discretions where allowed in d case of someone saying silly things about d prophet.
Seriously? You have forum rules right? Please what does the rule book say about Mac banning people for upwards of 10years? Yes I keep repeating Mac because of the frequency of his actions which suggest despotic tendencies. I'm sure other Mods sanction users but can you tell me the names of the other mods who ban users for ridiculous periods so I can direct my posts to them also whoever the person is. I hear you are a co-mod, and you just told me you don't usually agree with some of Mac's decisions...well that's admirable, although I am yet to see how that has reduced the absurdity of this sanctions.
You really misconstrued my post but never mind, I'll make do with what you posted... Finally, the question I asked you has nothing to do with you being a Mod or Nairaland for that mater. I directed that question to your person in reality not the moniker "deols". Thank you
Christianity EtcRe: To Avoid Being Banned, Please Ensure That Your Post Is Not Offensive To Islam. by PalmTree(m): 8:49am On Feb 15, 2013
deols: I don't subscribe to sporadic banning either but that doesnt make this good enough. If the section is for Muslims, the Muslims should be allowed to make the decisions and not christian mods who are sentiments driven as clearly shown on this thread.

The people trying to claim victims are themselves the trouble makers. Muslims don't go to the other section to insult their faith.
Ma'am, the issue at hand is not about the xtain mods making sentimental decisions on a muslim subsection, the point is why the muslim section should exist at all. I'm yet to comprehend why muslims have an exclusive domain if you guys are actually tolerant enough to co-exist with people of other religions without necessarily resulting to violence. Mac has been banning users in (and to put it mildly) a preposterous manner which by all indications is comely to most of you otherwise you guys would have checked him. One can't but imagine what someone like Mac would have done if he has the power to discern the real identity of some users. Note carefully that I am strongly against blasphemy as I have always said in my previous posts and I have recommended the provision of a clearly defined set of guidelines to restrict the likes of Mac from been corrupted by the very little power at his disposal (I have sited Mac's example because of the frequency of his actions).
You sound like an intelligent fellow, so I will end this post with this question exclusively for you to answer (if you decide not to answer, its cool). If a man decides to show his stupidity by insulting Islam, Mohammed (S.A.W) or Allah, can you let it slide... Hoping that Allah who has been insulted will deal with him, or will you prefer to deal with him instead? Thank you.
Christianity EtcRe: To Avoid Being Banned, Please Ensure That Your Post Is Not Offensive To Islam. by PalmTree(m): 8:56am On Feb 14, 2013
Seun's points are obviously valid but doesn't go down well with majority of other non-moslems. If his rationale being that moslems show a considerable degree of intolerance is the reason for their subsection then it's a total sham! Like I asked before, if Seun were to be Nigeria's President, would he have created a state exclusively for moslems and then write a warning boldly on the gates so every non-moslems will deny themselves freedom of speech? I detest it when forum users result to insults and blasphemy in the process of driving home a point and I support a clearly defined set of punishment for offenders. However it is obvious that Seun's magnanimity has encouraged some mods to bare their despotic tendencies, users on this forum have complained bitterly on how Mac has banned them without necessarily insulting islam. I maintain that Seun is the root cause of this evil because he was the one who gave Mac the authority to be the prosecutor and the judge, he passes judgement as pleases without reference to any rule book... Who does that? If seun wants to highlight the intolerance of moslems, should it be at the expense of others? How many times has he vetoed any of Mac's excesses? You saw him ban a user for more than 10years and you let it slide because you want us to see his intolerance? Seun, this is your forum and you have autonomous power, but in all you do always remember to consider the opinions of your users. We are happy that you created this avenue (Nairaland) for us to interact, but finally WE ARE WHAT MAKES NAIRALAND. Long live the land of the NAIRA!!!
Christianity EtcRe: To Avoid Being Banned, Please Ensure That Your Post Is Not Offensive To Islam. by PalmTree(m): 11:11pm On Feb 13, 2013
Dear Seun,
Good day to you, I want you to know that I am writing this short note devoid of my religious affiliation but as a concerned NLder. I wish to bring to your notice certain issues that concern the religion section as a whole.
I see that you are the brain behind this menace in the religion section. You are the one who has given Mac and co the go ahead to ban users for upwards of 10years! Honestly with what you just posted, it shows that you are quite satisfied with what the islamic mods are doing and so you are encouraging them to do more... What is the difference between a Mod who without any predefined set of punishment decides to slam an "offender" with 10years ban (preposterous) and those fellows in the north who will gladly maim and kill people at the slightest provocation? What is even the rationale behind the moslem subsection? Did you sanction that too? Whatever reason that may be, if you were Mr President, would you have created a state exclusively for moslems? Christians and unbelievers are agitating for their own exclusive section too... Would you fast track the approval so we can all operate martial law in each domain?
I have said it several times that the religion section should operate a level playing ground! It should be a model where people devoid of their religious bias can interact, if we cannot co-exist anonymously online how then can we correct the "cancer" destroying our nation? Thank you.

Logicboy, I never said you were clamoring for a separate section! I read and understood your OP and that's is why I sent my post.
@Bella... Suspecting me? FYI, I rarely post on Nairaland I like to refer to myself as a passive member, I follow many threads on NL in my spare time but I rarely post any comments unless I feel there is a serious need. Why are you surprised that I said you clamp down on Lb, don't you? grin anyways its cool, like I said earlier I spend most of my spare time in the religion section and most times when I am on a Lb thread, I tell my self that Bella is near, and guess what, before I read 10 comments you show upgrin. Finally, I operate a single moniker, so if you are suspecting that I operate more... You'll probably make a pretty bad cop cheesy Bye
Christianity EtcRe: 5 Reasons Atheists Need A Separate Board (why Xtians Should Be Happy We Dont) by PalmTree(m): 2:33pm On Feb 10, 2013
I have said this before and wouldn't mind repeating it, there is absolutely no need for a special section for any religion, beliefs or disbelief. Nairaland is just an online forum where people use pseudonyms to post their opinion. On a particular thread created by a certain e rufai where he highlighted hypocrisy on the part of Mac, I made it clear that this religion section should be enough for all beliefs/disbelief, there is the need for a level playing ground! The Moslem sub section should be abolished! I knew it will come to this- where each belief will like to claim different subsections. Please let us use the nairaland religion section as a model, if we cannot co-exist with each other despite the fact that most of us do not know each other, how then do we curb religious intolerance that is on the verge of destroying our nation? Logicboy, this isn't in anyway derailing your thread, but I belief this is an issue that needs to be urgently addressed. Have you seen FxKings thread about atheists getting their own subsection? Its appalling! I am a devout Christian but I follow all your threads, I read almost all posts from Frosbel, Anony, Tbaba et al, you all make sense from your different angles and you all present to me an avenue to see the different perspective of life which is epic. Alas, this is about to end because some BIGOTS want separate threads. Honestly its pathetic. Note this, once this section disintegrate, with it goes its effect and impact on most members. Of what relevance is the republicans without democrats, or PdP without Buhari or Tinubu? Of what use is Frosbel or Anonys thread when Logicboy decides not to interfere because he is in another section? Or if there is no Bella to clamp down on Logicboy 'cos they both ply a different lane? Ah! Make una stop this your play ooo.
