The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the release of the May/June 2015 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results.

Speaking at a press conference in Lagos, the Head of National Office (HNO), Mr Charles Eguridu said that a total of 1,605,248 candidates registered for the May/June examination while 1,593,442 sat for the exam.
He said that 864,096 of the candidates were males while 729,346 candidates were females.

In a breakdown of the results, a total of 1,498,069 candidates representing 94.01% have their results fully released while 95,373 candidates representing 5.99% have a few of their subjects still being processed due to some errors traceable to candidates and schools.
758,849 candidates representing 47.62% obtained six credits and above while 949,862 candidates representing 59.61% obtained five credits and above.

A total of 1,114,988 candidates representing 69.97% obtained credits and above in four subjects and about 1,295,915 candidates representing 78.81% obtained credits and above in three subjects.

The results of 118,101 candidates, representing 7.41% are being withheld in connection with various cases of examination malpractice.
Eguridu said the cases are being investigated and reports of the investigations will be presented to the Nigerian Examinations Committee (NEC).

The HNO added that there was an increase in the performance of candidates when compared with the results of 2013 and 2014 examinations as 616,370 candidates, representing 38.68% obtained credits in five subjects and above including English Language and Mathematics.

Speaking on the performance of blind candidates, Mr. Eguridu said that out of 109 blind candidates that registered and sat for the examination, 20 of them, representing 18.34% obtained credit in 5 subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.

He further stated that candidates will be able to check their results on the Council’s website within the next 24 hours.

On the states that are owing the council, the WAEC boss said that a few of the debtor states responded by paying their debts fully or partially while a few others made promises, indicating their willingness to pay as soon as they are able to do so.

He stated that the results of debtor-States’ candidates would be released if such States endeavour to produce bank guarantees (APGs), so that the Council will be assured that the fees will be paid.

This decision, he said, is in appreciation of the general prevailing economic challenges in the country and in order not to jeopardize the educational careers of the candidates of the indebted states.

WAEC Head of National Office, Mr. Charles Eguridu, announced this in Lagos at a press conference on Monday.

Eguridu added that the states owing WAEC had reduced to 13, saying the candidates in public schools in the 13 states would not have their results until their state governments pay their candidates’ registration fees.

The examination body had raised the alarm that 19 states owed the agency about N4bn, an amount that might cripple the operations of WAEC.

A Nigerian has decided to break the internet with his critical post after slamming Pastor E. A Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God -with heavy criticisms for donating an ambulance to Israel.

Pastor Adeboye on May 13th through his church RCCG, donated an Ambulance to Zaka, Israel's disaster recovery organization. At the ceremony which held in Israel, the Mayor of Jerusalem, Nigerian Ambassador to Israel, a rep for Israeli Prime Minister were also at the event.

A man who thought the pastor deserves no praise from Nigerians for his "kind" gesture -took to his Facebook page to pour out his mind. Hear him;

The crisis of confidence rocking Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo, has degenerated to the point of the institution's Rector, Rev. Fr. Wence Madu, being dragged to the dreaded Okija Shrine in Anambra State.

The invitation letter, which was allegedly extended to the Rector, was signed by one Ukaegbu N. Ogidi, who claimed that there was a complaint of injustice against Rev. Fr. Madu.

While stating that any respondent coming to Ogwugwu Okija must come with clean hands, Ogidi also informed the Rector that “Ogwugwu kills only those whose hands are not clean, especially those who committed evil against their fellow human beings at work places, churches, mosques, markets and other public places.”

According to Vanguard News, the letter also claimed that Rev. Fr. Madu knew about the issue at stake, “but turned around to conspire and deal with an innocent person.”

The Rector was equally reminded in the mail that he “should feel free to reverse the injustice with your conspirators and collaborators against the complainants to avoid coming to Ogwugwu and other unpleasant consequences.”

The custodians of the shrine similarly informed the Rector that he should on arrival, look for the Chief Priest for briefing and other formalities.

Then the threat: “But where you fail to come because of any reason, we shall come to your residence or office. The truth must be uncovered at all cost.”

When reporters visited the Rector’s office, yesterday, to ascertain if he got such an invitation or not, somebody who claimed to be a staff of the office said the Rector was not in the office.

Indications that Nigerians may experience more power blackouts in the coming weeks, emerged yesterday from the disclosure made by the permanent secretary, Federal Ministry of Power, Ambassador Godknows Igali that within the last five weeks, power generation has dropped from 4,500mw to 2700 mw .

Igali who made the disclosure to Senate Correspondents at the National Assembly after briefing the Senate Committee on Power, Steel Development and Metallurgy, said gas and crude oil pipeline vandals were responsible for the drastic drop in power generation.

He said the high rate of vandalization carried out by vandals on both oil and gas pipelines across the country within the last five weeks, have made the country to lose 1, 800 mw of power generation which was 4,500mw as at 4th of last month but now dropped to 2,700 mw.

The current power outages being experienced by electricity consumers across the country according to him, are caused by the vandals who he said carry out their nefarious acts on daily basis.

He added that as a way of preventing the vandals from throwing the entire country into blackout, security agencies have swung into action against them with 200 of them already in the nets of the agencies for the needed prosecution.

He said, “We have been able to explain to electricity consumers that the current power outrage is as a result of high rate of pipeline vandalization. They vandalize both the crude pipelines and gas pipelines on daily basis.

“But the more sinister ones which is with a lot of pain is when people deliberately blow up pipes written clearly gas pipeline. They blow them up almost every day, they blow them up and that denies the power plants some gas,unfortunately our country depends on a lot of gas.

“We have hydro-electric power dams, Shiroro, Jebba and Kanji which are the major ones, but this dry season the hydro-electric dams does not do well. Security agencies have arrested 200 people vandalizing gas pipelines in the last two months and they are interrogating them and working with communities to solve this problems and put it behind us.

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has opened the online registration portal for the 2015 November/December General Certificate Examination (GCE) application.

Information on the portal shows that the WAEC online registration scratch cards for November/December 2015 WASSCE (Private) will be sold for N11,600 and N21,400 for late registration.

GENERAL REGISTRATION INSTRUCTIONS:

LOGIN
Candidates are to start their Registration by enrolling their fingerprints and capturing other personal details using the Biometric Data Capture software. Click here to download if you have a fingerprint scanner or visit any Registration Centre with such facilities to scan your fingerprints. Ensure your Surname, First name and other names are captured using the software.

BIO DATA
You are required to enter your bio data which includes Gender, Disability, Marital Status, Maiden Name (if applicable), Date of Birth, Nationality and State of Origin. Note that your name must not be more than 40 characters, this includes spaces between the surname, firstname and other name. Please select NONE for disability information if you are not disabled.

UPLOADING OF PASSPORT PHOTOGRAPH
You are required to upload your scanned passport size photograph with a white background. The photograph must be a recent one and must be in Joint Portable Exchange (jpg) format. Note that the photograph you upload will be printed on your photocard and certificate. The dimension of the passport must be exactly 275 X 314 pixels. The photograph must not be more than 15 kilobytes and not less than 7 kilobytes in size.

CONTACT INFORMATION
You are required to supply your contact information which includes telephone, email, residential address, residential city, residential state, postal address, city and state. Note that Telephone number is compulsory since it would be used to contact the candidate should the need arise.

SELECTION OF PREFERRED EXAMINATION TOWN
You are required to select the state and town you wish to write the examination. The exact centre will be automatically assigned to you by the system. Please note that you cannot change your examination town after submission.

SUBJECTS SELECTION
English Language and Mathematics have been automatically selected for you because they are compulsory. You are required to select the other subjects you wish to register for in this examination. Please note that a minimum of Seven (7) and a maximum of Nine (9) subjects are allowed (English Language and Mathematics inclusive).

DECLARATION
You are required to read the declaration section carefully and check or tick the checkboxes before submitting your form. You cannot proceed unless you have done this.

SUBMITTING REGISTRATION
Once you have completed the registration form, you are required to click the ACCEPT button after which a preview of your details will be displayed. You are required to review your application at this stage and click the EDIT button if you desire to make any modification. You should click the SAVE button if you want to save your application and still be able to come back and modify it. Note that you can only modify up to 3 times. Click the SUBMIT button if you want to submit your application.

NOTE that you will no longer be able to modify your application once you click the SUBMIT button.

PRINTING OF ADMISSION NOTICE/PHOTO CARD
