It is not only the President that should check the NASS, but all of us. Because we are irresponsible, indifferent, cowards, and ignorant, we allow some bunch of money gluttons to milk us dry. The constitution empowers us to recall this people if they go against our will but have we exercised those rights? We are probably waiting for Holy Ghost fire to help us. Although I am not a supporter of JEG, but I believe that we can do more to redeem the situation than Jonathan. I do not even think they should be earning up to N700,000 monthly, after all how many of them were earning more than N200,000 monthly before they entered the NASS. |
The plaintiff is insisting that it was the only company with the patent right to produce Electronic Collapsible Transparent Ballox Boxes, ECTBB, as well as the patentee in respect of Proof of Address System/Scheme, PASS, used for the collation and collection of the names, age, sex, Address, finger print, geographical description and location of various places in the country, including the bio-data of every person resident in Nigeria. The ABNs of 2011 have started their acts.As far as I am concerned if INEC is infringing on the patent rights of this company, then they have the right to seek redress in the courts. If 2011 elections fail because of this it is not the company or judges or lawyers that should be blamed, but INEC for not following due process. |
Nigerians, you people are incapable of rational reasoning. Your comments are always a product of emotions and never facts. No wonder there is hardly anything that has been achieved in your country for so many years. It is always talk but no action. Our judgment of who will win an election is based entirely on how much we like the person and never on facts. For example, yesterday a poll was conducted on Nairaland on who they think will win the Nigeria vs Germany match. From the results of the poll majority of respondents thought that Nigeria will defeat Germany. But, was that based on facts? To me, it was stupid and foolish for anyone to think that a Nigerian team that has won nothing outside of Africa will defeat the current world champion and a team ranking no. 2 in the world. If Nigeria won that match it would have been a major upset. But was their love for Nigeria enough to stop the Falcons from being walloped 8-0. In the same way, your love for IBB, JEG, Atiku, Ribadu, etc will not be enough for any of them to win. Know that no matter how much you hate a person that alone will not be enough to make him/her lose an election. Remember, it is one man one vote. It is not only your vote that will be counted on that day. So, let us stop this arrogance, because it is the square root of all our national problems. |
Guys we need to be objective with our judgments. Truth be told, this is the first real challenge for the super falcons. They may dominate Africa but outside Africa they are nowhere. In case you do not know Germany is ranked 2nd in the world, Nigeria is not in the top 25. This is a friendly match. Friendly matches are not about winning, it is about learning. I am sure by now they will be very humbled. If they learn from their mistakes they will get better and will become more competitive when the tournament starts. It is tournament that is about winning. That is why friendly matches are important. Without this we would not have known how good our team really is. Now we know, let’s be humble. Let’s hope that the contractors in NFF will not see this as an opportunity to cash in. |
Thanks for the compliment but I see the reference to him as a father of the internet more as someone whose work has made a contribution to the development of the internet not necessarily an originator thereof and in that sense, I do not think you need a patent or PHD to be a contributor to the Internet's development. But your assertion that he has done nothing to warrant patents or a PHD are your opinions which many including PE do not agree. If he did not feel cheated in the matter of the PHD why did he go to court to challenge the issue. That he lost the case does not make it a fact but knowing that the law is an a.s.s, it can be argued that he could have won under other circumstances so it remains your opinion. And your verdict that he should not be on the stamp is a matter for the Nigerian Govt to decide when the investigation is concluded not yours or mine as it was their decision ab initio to put him there without consulting any of us.@DapoBear read this qoute originally posted by another advocate of Emeagwali. There you will see why he claims to be a father of the internet. I know you may have seen it but have decided to play blind. But I just want to give you the benefit of the doubt. To you it may not be enough, but to him, me, BBC, Time, CNN, Bill Cliton, the FG?, and millions of other people that matter worldwide it is enough. It is a matter of opinion. |
This only goes to show that IBB is an honourable man and that is why I respect him and still beleive that he is the leader we need at this point in our history. But, all the same I congratulate Atiku. |
@hercules07 your definition of who a father of internet is, is obviously different from my definition and that of Emeagwali. However, your definition of who a father of the internet is does not count here. It is Emeagwali's definition that counts since he is the one on trial. What did he mean when he claims he is a father of the internet? To me and to Emeagwali any one who has in any way contributed to the advancement of the internet is a father of the internet. The internet is not just devices connected to a network. Inside those devices there are ICs, processors. Without those devices there will be no internet. Without the proliferation of cheap computer, thanks to IBM there will be no internet no matter how nicely you define the protocol. Without GPRS and EDGE and now 3G how many of us will be using the internet today all the great men and women who worked in these technologies as far as I and Emeagwali are concerned are all fathers of the internet. Even men and women who invested their money to develop the technologies that makeup the internet are all fathers of the internet if you ask me, because they believed in what they cannot see. So, they are visionaries. The founders of Google made it easier for us to find information on the internet; they are fathers of the internet. The founder of facebook is a father of the internet and believe me hercules07 if you can open up your definition of who a father of the internet is one day you may even be worthy to lay claim to being a father of the internet. The internet is still evolving and there is still room for more fathers and mothers. So, my friends the internet is not just protocols. |
Ok, was gonna retort, but, ure obviously insane. . . . . .
It is your father that is insane, Idiot. ![]() hercules07:You do not need to be in IEEE to be a father of internet. People like John Von Neumann, Blaise Pascal, even the inventors of the transitor and IC without which there will be no internet are all fathers of the internet. They where not members of any IEEE protocol or are they? Emeagwali is in there league because of his ground breaking research, for which he was recognised. No reputable international media has discredited his work for now. |
violent:The question is why is Emeagwali on our stamp? Is it because he has 6 degrees? Is it because he has PHD.? Obviously not, there are many Nigerians with more than 6 degrees who are not on any Nigerian stamp. He is on our stamp because he won the Gordon Bell Prize for a research that makes him a Father of the Internet, something that only a few people in Africa or even the world can lay claim to. So my point is that to discredit this great intellectual, you have to focus on the credibility of the prize and on nothing else, because what defines Emeagwali today is that prize. |
I do not even know what the issue here is. Why do you say Emeagwali is a fraud? The most important question to ask here is, did Emeagwali win a Gordon Bell Prize in 1989, which according to Times is considered a Nobel Prize for computing? For me any attack on the credibility of Emeagwali should focus on this, because it is based on this achievement that he based his claim as a Father of the Internet. It is not the number of degrees he had or whether he had PHD or whether it is marine or civil engineering that makes him a Father of the Internet. It is the Gordon Bell Prize that makes him one of the greatest scientific minds Nigeria has ever produced. So, to discredit Emeagwali, you have to focus on the prize, not on the degrees. Focusing on his degrees and other little matters seems to me like a desperate attempt by his opponents. It also makes me align with people who claim that most of the accusations against Emeagwali is driven by malice, ignorance, and tribal hate. My Advice to anyone who wants to read about Emeagwali is to go to international media. That is where you know what is making the news. Nigerian Journalists are poorly paid and hence receive brown envelops to write whatever rubbish you desire. |
Naija is a home grown name. If the minister is for made in Nigeria goods, why is she now rejecting Naija, which is made in Nigeria. She should find something else to do. |
tokunbobo:IBB has not been convicted of corruption, so your example does not add up. Although you hate him, there are enough Nigerians who like him. That is probably why he is seen as a serious threat by the incumbent. I am sure there will be lots of other candidates come election day that you could vote for if you do not like IBB. |
True federalism is required if we are to put an end to these agitations. Aside the fairness it brings, it is the only way to drive the Nigerian economy forward. For many years we have talked about diversification of the Nigerian economy without any success. But the question is, why will any state governor border about alternative sources of revenue when he is guaranteed to receive easy oil money monthly. In fact, I think it is arrogant and foolish for anyone to think that he can diversify the Nigerian economy from Aso Rock. To diversify the economy we need to make it a do or die matter. By introducing resource control, state govts will be forced to look for alternative sources to replace the inevitable reduction in their revenue. This will force them to tap the human and natural resources within their territory, leading to the much talked about diversification. Today there are millions of unemployed youths in Nigeria. In a resource control regime, these youths will be seen as assets rather than liabilities that they are seen today. Today when you hear our leaders talking about employment they talk as if they are doing a favour to the youths. They use words like HELP and Indigent. In a resource control regime, the govts will see providing jobs as a favour they are doing to themselves as that will increase receipts from taxes and VAT. This will create a direct link between economic growth and employment. Today, even if all of us are unemployed as long as the oil industry is working it will make little or no difference to our leaders. That is why even though millions are unemployed; our leaders do no seem bothered. Resource control will change all that. That is why we must support resource control and vote only leaders who have it in their agenda and make it a condition for any leader desirous of second term in office (Yes soon another four years will goby). Do not vote for anyone because he is good (or claim to be good), because nobody is good. Vote people who will protect your interest. And believe me resource control is in your interest. |
