Politics / Re: South Africa Defies Nigeria On Nigerian Soil by passyjango(m): 5:41pm On Mar 08, 2011
The fact is that most of the comments here are based on ignorance. This is a woman who has lived in Nigeria and like most of us ignorantly believing that Nigeria is the giant of Africa. She went for a trip to SA and found out that Nigeria cannot be a giant in the same continent as South Africa. This is just a confession of a woman who have seen both countries hence her assertion is more credible than that of some of us that may not have crossed our states of residence in our life time.

You cannot compare yourself to yourself. This woman went to SA and proclaimed it to be the giant of Africa based on her experience. Rather than abusing her, we should see her more like a secret intelligence agent alerting us of the fact that SA has overtaken us as the giant of Africa. This new intel should rather inspire us to reclaim the giant of Africa position, rather than wasting our energy here on NL.

Contrary to what most of us think patriotism is not about covering-up your country. It is about expressing the truth, to inspire a change mentality. You cannot build a nation if you are delusional of how small or rotten your nation is. Our problem is pride and insincerity. We attack every negative statement about Nigeria yet we do nothing to change the fortunes of our country. After this those of us that collect bribe, give bribe, rig elections, vote for 'coconut heads', etc will go back to our daily routine of destroying our country, while we wait for another negative comment about Nigeria, so that we continue our abuse of each other.

The fact is that SA is in a class of its own. At the rate we are currently going it will take us decades to get to where SA is today. Nigeria is only in the same class as countries like Somalia, Niger, Eritrea, etc just like most international reports show. If you do not like it, go and hug a transformer, or better still begin to work positively daily to change the fortunes of your country. You can start by voting the best candidates in the April Poll and commit yourself to not get involved in all those things that have left Nigeria as a ‘Giant in the Sand’.

May ignorance not kill some Nigerians.I am in Australia and have been here for about 7 years now.And Australians speak English since most of them came from England to settle here. There are so many Nigerian Doctors here and one complain from most Aussies is that they find it difficult to understand these doctor when they speak. So if you think that bullshit that comes out from your diction is English language, you will be shocked to your marrow to realize that those whose English is truely theirs dont see you as speaking English well.,

We are not asking Mrs Jonathan to speak British or Australian English. We are only asking her to speak Nigerian English. We as Nigerians speak our own flavour of the English language, which is good enough for us. Besides, the Aussies do not even speak pure English, they speak their own flavour of it. I have listened to core British speak and I know there is a big difference between the two. So, even the Aussies have no right to judge the quality of our English Language as we do not also understand the bullshit that they speak.

Tunsbobo:

The condition of Nigerian electorates is absolutely pitiable. I want to ask u all some questions! Is speaking big grammer the most important quality you search for in Nigeria's next president? Are u also saying u wouldn't vote for Gej simply because his wife speaks bad english?(imagine!) In summary, you prefer someone who speaks good English but not effective to someone who cannot speak good English but effective?! If yes, then i guess the best option for president come 2011 is Reverend Chris Okotie! Rubbish. Una no get sense at all!

This goes beyond the inability of the first lady to represent herself in public. It also questions the ability of her husband to identify and solve problems. Is he okay with the way his wife represents herself in public, if not what is he doing about it? That is one question that should be asked at the forth coming debate if he will show up there.

If Jonathan despite being in public office for many years cannot fix his wife (who has just a simple problem of messing up grammar), then he cannot be trusted to fix Nigeria (a country with multitude of problems). We need a leader who is allergic to problems and will solve problem, not someone who accepts and lives with problems. For Christ sake, what will it take to brush-up this woman? All the money she spends on fashion would have done the job in less than six months.
Politics / Re: Patience Jonathan: My Fellow Widows by passyjango(m): 5:56pm On Mar 07, 2011
No doubt Patience Jonathan is a coconut head. She has been in political circle for around 12 years now yet she has not learnt nor seen the need to learn and master the English language. It shows that she lacks intelligence and has a poor reading culture. That is why the drive by GEJ to reintroduce a reading culture in Nigerians must start with his wife.

This also shows how weak a leader GEJ is. If you have been in political positions for around 12 years and you cannot convince and inspire your wife to see the need to improve her command of the official language of the country that you have served in various capacities, then you must be a weak leader. No wonder the woman considers herself a widow. If you cannot lead your home, your chances of successfully leading a country is very slim.

Welcome development but let us hope this will not cause chaos on the exam they if lots of candidates fail fingerprint scan. If you bank with GTBank, try using internet banking and token (which goes for N3k), this enables you do most of your banking transactions online saving lots of time and energy. With Internet banking, you may never have to visit a bank branch except if you want to withdraw cash.

Vote for the candidate of your choice and allow others to vote for theirs. Our votes should not be based on analysis or who we think will win (voting is not gambling), but on the candidate we believe will address the problems of the country. This analysis is only valid if you are planning to bet on who will win. However, like every analysis it is based on variables that can change at anytime.

It is important to note that Ribadu is not under any probe, rather it is the EFCC and the Police that is. This case may even end without Ribadu being invited. Ribadu may only be invited if need be, so GEJ supporters should not read any unnecessary meaning into the situation.

Business / Re: IMF Proposes Devaluation Of Naira by passyjango(m): 11:03pm On Feb 19, 2011
Nigerians want the best things, but we are never ready to make the little sacrifice required. Most of the worry about a lower valued Naira is because it will increase the price of all those imported goods that we buy. Price of TV, cars, etc will rise that is the main fear for most people. Some have said that what we need is to fix power, but the big question is where are you going to find money for fixing power when we are wasting the little you have to artificially keep our currency stable. That is why we are now borrowing to finance our budget. Nigerians must match their expectations with reality. You cannot have it all, there are always trade-offs. Like I, said earlier, we either allow our currency to float now or we will be forced to do so when our reserves are completely depleted, then the Naira will fall so rapidly. This is a good suggestion by IMF and we do not even need IMF to tell us that without any productive base, it is not sustainable to continue stabilizing the value of the Naira in the long run.

To be fair Sanusi, when he first came in wanted to allow the Naira to float. However, after several harassment by politicians (like NASS), who were probably worried that they will be spending more on their luxury goods, the guy backed down.
Business / Re: IMF Proposes Devaluation Of Naira by passyjango(m): 4:27pm On Feb 19, 2011
niyooo:

The western countries just want to keep getting our oil on the cheap. Devaluation is favorable when you are a manufacturing nation that exports your manufactured goods. As it is we don't manufacture jack and the CBN is having issues defending the value of the naira because the confused desperate man in the rock is hell bent on staying there even if it kills the whole country. How do you explain a situation where we are making more from oil right now and yet spending everything with nothing to show for it?

Abeg make dem no try am o. China devalues its Yuan so that it's exports can be cheaper for foreigners. The crux of the matter is that our manufacturing industries have to be developed, if that is done, we can now export our manufactured goods at competitive prices. Also the government should improve power supply rather than wasting all the money.

Please educate me on how devaluing our currency will make our oil cheaper. The last time I checked, oil was priced and sold in Dollars. So, even if N1,000,000 = $1,  they will still be buying at almost the same price. I am not saying we should devalue, I am only saying that we should not waste our foreign reserve to artificially stabilise our currency. The Naira should be allowed to float. Its value should be determined by prevailing market forces to some extent.

As for your question How do you explain a situation where we are making more from oil right now and yet spending everything with nothing to show for it?

The answer is simple, CBN is using the reserve to stabilise the Naira artificially.
Business / Re: IMF Proposes Devaluation Of Naira by passyjango(m): 2:46pm On Feb 19, 2011
Whether we like it or not, the Naira needs devaluing. We either do it now or wait until we exhaust all our foreign reserve. Then we will have no choice or control over the fate of the Naira. We may even borrow money then just to maintain our currency. We are just lucky that oil price is high, that is why the CBN could still afford to keep the Naira artificially stable. Some of us have been complaining about how our foreign reserves have been reducing despite high oil prices. Now we know why and we have been given a suggestion on how we could stop it. Do we even need IMF to tell that to continue depleting foreign reserve in order to keep our currency artificially stable is not sustainable in the long run? It is common sense.
Politics / Re: President Goodluck Jonathan's Approval Rating by passyjango(m): 10:56am On Feb 14, 2011
Jonathan's Approval rating is falling only because he is a failure. However, the disapproval must not stop in NL. We all must go out on that day to cast our vote. Like, @Kobojunkie said, we all must go out to vote for the candidate of our choice even if sentiments or popular knowledge says our vote will not count or your candidate will not win. Remember, the objective of the election is to vote for the person you believe is the best for this country. It does not matter if the person wins at the end of the day. This is democracy, majority will have their way, but the minority must have their say. Your job is to mobilise enough people on your side so that you will be one of the majority. If your candidate or idea does not win in this election another one will come in four years. That, my friends is the beauty of democracy.

I am at the frontline of exploring geniocracy and banning democracy.  grin

I spend my time, money and effort on advocating that decision-making should be left to the few in the clerisy, the rest should follow and do as they are told after decisions are make, their opinion does not count.

I work very hard to ensure the rest (outside the clerisy) see that they are dimwitted and not smart enough to be able to make judgements or have opinions on issues/people/situations that have complexities. That is the most efficient way we can move forward.  cool
Although I have said this many times before, I will say it again, you are a disturbed human being and not in touch with reality. Here we are talking about the 2011 elections that will be conducted under democracy and you are here talking about an insane idea, which is not going to materialise anytime soon. How would you get your idea into mainstream thinking if you do not use the existing structure to promote a candidate that will be insane enough to push for such a system. Ideas that make sense like a true federal structure and freedom of information have not seen the light of day, it is geniocrazy that will.

Who will select the so called clerisy? What criteria will be used to select them? You are simply naïve. Your idea will only work in animal farm and I suggest, you forget such supremacist ideas. Democracy is not perfect but it is still the most realistic form of government today. Giving sweeping powers to a few people to decide the fate of others without any input from them will not work in the long run. This is not a computer, we are talking about here. We are talking about human beings with all their complexities. Absolute power corrupts and democracy remains the only system of government with a practical way of checking absolute power.

How is your idea different from the circumstances in Egypt, where a few people believe they are smarter than the rest and take decision without recourse to the will of their, according you, dimwitted and not smart enough people. The people have just shown them and people like you that power belong to the people and not to the clerisy. You have lost your way, but you can find your way back if you turn back now.

Celebrating mediocrity is even for those that are sane and average in Nigeria, YOU are celebrating rot and madness and think you are at the front line.  grin grin grin grin grin grin grin

That is the issue we need to deal with.

Solution: Take you to the woods and . . . . . . . . . . pow pow grin grin grin grin
Yes I am in the front line, because I am promoting my candidate who Ribadu although you have decided to focus on my previous support for IBB. I have contributed my time and money to support my candidate. Anytime I hear someone promoting another candidate, I make it my duty to show why the other candidate is not good enough and why Ribadu is better. The post you first started your non-sense from was an example. My aim there was to convince people to go and vote on the day even if they do not believe there candidate will win. They should vote first protect their vote and wait for the result to be announced. My fear is that some people will just not vote because they do not believe that their candidate will win or they will just vote for the person they think will win not necessarily the best candidate.

As for you, what have you done? Have you even donated money to the campaign? With your insulting tone and supremacist ideology I am sure that you can’t convince anyone to vote your candidate. You cannot woo support by insulting people or telling people that most of them should not be allowed to vote because they do not have the intellectual capacity to do so. You woo voters by challenging their belief in the other candidates respectfully and then projecting your candidate as a better alternative. That I have done successfully that is why, I will proudly say that I am in the front line.

You should be the one in a mental facility considering the mentality you have displayed. I would advocate the "take-to-the-woods" treatment if I was asked.

Reality my arse.

Just like Okonjo-Iweala and Aganga, the nation might need my type one day because very few of those types are left in Nigeria.

I agree you have your rights. No one should violate your natural rights, but your other rights can be curtailed to help the nation progress.

Stay there in London while you wait for our call. If you are so patriotic, you should be here in the front line. But of course you will not be released from the mental health facility until you are certified normal and capable of integrating into normal human society. I am sure we have people in Nigeria who can offer us more than you can, Ribadu is one of them.
