Career › Re: Is It Mandatory To Send Xmas/new Year Sms To Ur Boss? by PaulJohn1: 9:10pm On Jan 01, 2013
It's not mandatory but essential.
He/she is your boss and you have to show that you know his/her worth by doing so.

Not at all occasions though, but for crucial ones like the New year it pays to do so. Boycotting Xmas, salah, easter and the like ain't bad

Career › Thread For Architects On The Use Of CAD by PaulJohn1(op): 3:42pm On Jan 01, 2013
I've been hoping to see a thread on this for long but it's like I'll wait forever
Architects/students of Architecture here can we please exchange ideas on the use of CAD(autoCAD, Revit, 3Dmax, Chief Architect, etc)

Software(s) of different kind(s) is/has been taking/taken over and rendering/rendered drafting useless.
Old Architects that have an excellent drafting skills, new generation architects plus students that are championing the world of software(CAD etc) for designing let's contribute to balance things and have a better experience.

Other professionals in different fields relating to architecture(I.e. builders + electrical, mechanical, structural, civil engineers) that are involved in the use of CAD are not left out.

Not a geographer but can't do without geography.
Geography as a course was a great determinant that paved way for me to study architecture.
Till you stop working as an architect you'll always borrow some vital things/theories from geography.
From map reading to slope determinant. The study of the sun route, wind direction, etc, that is going to have effect on your design before it can be effective and functional.

Personally, I love geography more the way I should.

So it(geography) is in me.
We're in together.

Politics › Don’t Write Off Nigeria Yet- Obasanjo by PaulJohn1(op): 9:30am On Dec 31, 2012
Former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, has expressed optimism about the ability of the country to rank among the greatest in the world in the nearest future.

Obasanjo, who addressed newsmen in Abeokuta, capital of Nigerian state of Ogun, said it was wrong for anyone to write Nigeria off as the country is endowed with abundant natural resources and other potentials to make it great.
He said God had been extra generous to Nigeria, adding that “many nations of the world are not as richly endowed as Nigeria’’.
Obasanjo, who lamented poor management of the resources, however, urged Nigerian leaders to harness the country’s endowments for its transformation.
“God has been kind to us, we need to be kind to ourselves,’’ he said.

The former president urged Nigerians to continue to exercise hope and enduring faith over Nigeria, saying “
I know we will get there very soon.’’
Obasanjo was twice Nigeria’s leader, first as military head of state, 1976-1979. He returned 20 years after to head a post-military civilian regime between 1999 and 2007.

He is often criticized for not using his second leadership tenure to pursue policies that would have developed Nigeria. Instead, he was accused of spending resources in pursuing a third term agenda in the last two years of his administration.

Aregbesola- Osun state.

Took him time to show anything tangible he has for the state. It's of recent I start to see something meaningful he's doing.
For this I won't rate his performance anything above average.
Hoping he's going to do far better next year.
@ bold,
Part of the accident prevent technique is understanding why previous ones happened and putting in place a mitigation. If FG is able to pull this off with any bribe and corruption, it would be a plus for the aviation sector.
Paul John: ...
Plus, inauguration of this won't bring back dead but'll only reveal details of the cause and a little idea of how future occurrence can be averted and not taking care of the primary cause I.e. bad roads, ineffective communication system, sub standard airport etc.
Politics › Re: Aregbesola Flags Off Distribution Of Free School Uniforms In Osun State by PaulJohn1: 4:39pm On Dec 29, 2012
Good initiative.
My objection is on the issue of identification of student/pupil of a particular school from another,
Since all government owned schools in the state are entitled to a single type of uniform wear. A student involved in a punishable act outside his/her school premises can't be identified to be student of a particular school for the fact that they have the same uniform wear.

Smart uniform there though.

lillyveezy: Hope the uniform does not have islamic logos, or better still the uniforms are not religion determinat.
Hope this uniforms are secular enough in style?
What you're seeing up there resemble a religious wear abi?
Politics › Re: Nigeria To Inaugurate $5.5mn Accident Investigation Laboratory by PaulJohn1(op):
While I commend the FG on this, I think it'll be better to spend more on accident preventive infrastructures. Accident Investigation laboratory is less important if accident occurrence is at it limit.
$5.5million will go a long way in construction of standard federal roads that are the major cause of accident to the common Nigerians.
I guess the accident investigation laboratory been inaugurated is meant for top government officials due to accident some governors have been involved in of recent and not for ordinary Nigerians.

Plus, inauguration of this won't bring back dead but'll only reveal details of the cause and a little idea of how future occurrence can be averted and not taking care of the primary cause I.e. bad roads, ineffective communication system, sub standard airport etc.

Usman told journalists on Friday in Lagos that the laboratory would be located in Abuja in line with international practices.

“The bureau is very close to launching its own Flight Data Recorder (FDR) and Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) laboratory being installed by the CAE/FlightScape Incorporation of Canada which will enable us to download both flight recorders promptly during investigations. Hitherto and now, these units are taken overseas for downloading,” he said.

Usman said that when completed, the laboratory would also handle cases of air, marine, road and rail accidents.

“We have highly qualified accident investigators who were trained in world class institutions to man the laboratory on inauguration,” he said.

According to him, the bureau has commenced training its personnel in investigating marine, road and rail-related accidents whenever they occurred.

“So AIB’s planned collaboration with the Federal Roads Safety Commission (FRSC) in this respect is still ongoing,” he said.

Usman disclosed that 20 out of the bureau’s 32 recommendations had so far been implemented by the Federal Government through the Ministry of Aviation.

He identified some of the recommendations as the establishment of the Total Radar Coverage of Nigeria (TRACON) project and airlines installing ground tracking devices in their offices to monitor their flights while flying.

Usman recalled that no passengers was rescued in previous air accidents in Nigeria involving the ADC, Bellview and Beachcraft 1900 D airlines because there was no radar system to track them.
