I gave this illustration on this thread https://www.nairaland.com/1106513/mokola-roundabout-bridge-construction-update/1But no, these shallow minded bad belles won't code it Paul John: The planning of Ibadan is very funny, such that anywhere you're traveling from on you way to Lagos, it's the indecent area you'll pass through. Imagine someone coming from Akure or the South/East, entering Ibadan through Gbagi through to Iwo road flyover, turning left to Lagos-Ibadan expressway. Your impression will be that the whole of Ibadan is made of ancient buildings with the buildings present in that area. Not knowing you're just seeing not up to 1/10 of the whole city. The organised areas: challenge, mokola, bodija, ashi, iyana church and rest are not seen.
But I can say Ajumobi is doing fine, with the orderliess he has brought to that Iwo road flyover and other things I've seen around. The second flyover you'll go through entering Ibadan from Lagos that intersects Ijebu-Ode road from Ogun is amazing, the landscaping and beautification is lovely. |

May be you visit oluyole estate to understand how industrious Ibadan is. Believe me, the whole thing you call industry In your Enugu is not up to half of what's in IB. Crime › Robbers Invade Peace Mass Transit Park In Nsukka by PaulJohn1(op): 2:39pm On Dec 14, 2012 |
The robbers were disguised as police officers. Passengers, staff and residents of Nsukka were gripped with fear when armed robbers on Thursday, invaded Peace Mass Transit Park in Nsukka, Enugu State, carting away an undisclosed amount of money.
A staff of the company, who pleaded anonymity, said that the seven-man robbery gang, wearing mobile police uniform, stormed the ticketing office at about 3.28 p.m. He said that the robbers, who brandished AK 47 rifles, ordered the workers to lie flat on the ground. He said the robbers came with a school bus, belonging to Imilke-Agu Secondary School.
“Three of them entered the ticketing room, searched the lockers where we keep money and removed the money they found there while the others mounted sentry outside. “The robbers, who wore mobile police uniform, shot in the air several times to scare people,” the staff said. A Nsukka Office Manger of the company, who refused to disclose his full names, but identified himself simply as Mr. Ogaranya, said he sensed danger when he heard harsh voices asking of the manager’s office. “They ordered me to lie down and asked me to tell them where money is kept. All of them wore mobile police uniform and were armed with AK47 rifles.
“I do not know how much they collected; all I know is that they collected all the money in my locker. “I thank God we have moved the money we collected in the morning to the bank,’’ Mr. Ogaranya, a retired police officer, said. Traders and artisans who ply their trade at the park, immediately closed shop for the day after the incident.
When contacted, the Enugu State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Ebere Amarizu, who confirmed the incident, said that police had started trailing the robbers. “I have been informed of the robbery incident in PMT Nsukka Office today, the Police have started trailing the robbers,” he said. http://premiumtimesng.com/regional/111100-robbers-invade-peace-mass-transit-park-in-nsukka.html |

Politics › Police To Lose Power To Prosecute Suspects by PaulJohn1(op): 5:09pm On Dec 12, 2012*. Modified: 8:48am On Dec 13, 2012 |
12 December 2012 , By Tobi Soniyi and Adebiyi Adedapo
The police will soon forfeit their power to prosecute suspects under a new arrangement being worked out by the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF). The AGF and Minister of Justice, Mr. Mohammed Bello Adoke (SAN), said at a lecture yesterday in Abuja that in the impending dispensation, his office would assume the power to prosecute any criminal suspect.
Adoke, while delivering a keynote address at a national dialogue on torture, extra-judicial killings and national security, organised by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), also said extra-judicial killings in the country had claimed about 7,195 lives, adding that the situation has contributed to the wave of terrorism in the country today.
Adoke's comment on extra-judicial killings coincided with the demand by the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) that the Federal Government should stop denying the fact that its security forces have been killing people under the pretext of fighting the Boko Haram insurgency.
Justifying the moves to strip the police of prosecution powers, Adoke said the force was peopled by non-professionals who were no match for the experienced and qualified lawyers to defendants in the court. He said henceforth, the police would only concern themselves with investigations into criminal activities of suspects. According to him, the inability to diligently prosecute offenders and the general state of helplessness for the victims of crime to get justice have led to a culture of self-help in the country.
The minister, who admitted that the wanton rot in the criminal justice system has escalated the culture of self-help and spate of terrorism in the country, said the Federal Government was concerned that the police had through the years relied on "Police Force Order 237" to commit extra-judicial killings. He added that the order, which allows the police to shoot any suspect or detainee trying to escape or avoid arrest, has led to extra-judicial killings of 7,195 people in four years. Of those illegally killed, 2,500 were detainees, he added.
"Although these figures have been stoutly disputed by the police, even the most charitable defenders of the force cannot deny that some dishonourable officers indeed have taken the law into their hands in the most barbaric fashion by killing suspects and innocent citizens," Adoke said.
Also at the dialogue, the Managing Partner Legal Resources Consortium, Mr. Olawale Fapohunda, disagreed with the Federal Government over its comment on the ills in the police system, saying the approach of the government to police reform had made the police endangered species. Fapohunda dismissed the idea of state police because the solution to the problems of crime, insecurity and terrorism in Nigeria is not due to the police structure, but achieving a police service, which is efficient, honest and professional.
He said the police could not meet the challenges of criminality because of lack of modern tools to carry out their jobs. He said rather than the Federal Government implementing police reforms, it had ceaselessly been setting up reform committees.
"The inauguration of the Parry Osayande committee with terms of reference similar to previous high level committees on the police, is a clear indication of lack of interest of the administration on police reforms," he said. Also, the NBA yesterday in Abuja called on the Federal Government to stop denying the fact that its security agencies have been killing people under the pretext of fighting Boko Haram insurgency.
The president of the association, Mr. Okey Wali (SAN), who said this at a round table forum organised to mark this year's Human Rights Day, stated that while insurgents were violating the rights of the Nigerian people through extra-judicial executions and mindless bombings, the security agencies had also been engaged in extra-judicial executions and unlawful and unconstitutional detention of insurgents. He said: "We also want to reiterate that Nigeria has an obligation to investigate allegations of extra-judicial executions by security agencies.
"There is nothing shameful about acknowledging mistakes and indiscretions and pledging to make amends. "Denying cases of extra-judicial executions and unlawful detentions in the face of overwhelming evidence can only diminish our prestige and respect in the comity of nations."
He stated that extra-judicial executions by the police amounted to a disregard of the duty to organise the apparatus of the state in such a manner as to guarantee the rights recognised in the African Charter.
He called on the Federal Government to investigate all the allegations of extra-judicial executions and torture levelled against the various branches of the security agencies, saying impunity would persist so long as cases of this nature are not investigated and the perpetrators brought to justice. He noted that both the military and the Department of State Security Service (DSS) have been detaining people illegally.
Quoting from the relevant sections of the National Security Agencies Act and the constitution, Wali said: "No provision of the said law or the constitution gives the SSS or the military or the police the right to detain suspects ad infinitum."
He said that Nigeria must at all times be a country founded on the rule of law and due process. He advised all security agencies holding persons in their custody to transfer such suspects to the Nigerian Police Force for prosecution.
He also urged the AGF to compile the names of all persons in detention on terror-related activities and such persons should be given their due process rights. According to him, it is a lame excuse to pretend that these categories of persons are being detained in anticipation of an amendment to the Terrorism Act, adding that such an amendment if passed would not be retroactive. |

Politics › Kidnappers Kill Soldier, Driver, Abduct Lebanese Engineer In Delta by PaulJohn1(op): 1:17am On Dec 12, 2012 |
There was security scare in Delta State, Tuesday, as four dare-devil kidnappers, armed with AK 47 rifles, allegedly shot dead a soldier and abducted a Lebanese staff of Setraco Construction Company at Ughelli, Mr. Harry Fadi.
In addition, a judge of the Delta State High Court, Justice Marshal Umukoro, miraculously escaped death, along Warri-Ughelli Road at Okuokoko community, when another set of gunmen numbering four riddled his KIA SUV with bullets along Warri-Ughelli Road.
The daring broad daylight escapades of the kidnappers sent a disturbing signal to residents, as well as security agents, who were combing suspected hideouts in the state for the kidnappers of Professor Kamene Okonjo, mother of the Minister of Finance, Prof Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.
Police will get the kidnappers – Commissioner Aduba Delta State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ikechukwu Aduba, who confirmed the foiled kidnap of the judge and abduction of the expatriate staff to Vanguard, said there was no cause for alarm, as the police would track down the kidnappers.
No information yet on Okonjo- Iweala’s mother There was still no information yet on the whereabouts of Professor Kamene Okonjo, but a dependable source said workers in the palace were invited by the police to make statements on how the matriarch of the Okonjo family was abducted.
Sources suspect that there could be an inside collaboration and police were waiting for clues that would lead them to the kidnappers, but at the same time, “they would not want to do anything that will jeopardize the safety of the aged woman”.
Pandemonium in Ughelli Vanguard gathered that the gunmen killed the soldier when he attempted to stop them from kidnapping the expatriate, who the deceased was escorting in a vehicle at Ekiugbo Junction, Ughelli. They drove away with the Setraco staff after killing the soldier.
Reports said that pandemonium broke out in Ughelli, headquarters of Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State, following the killing the soldier attached to Setraco Nigeria Limited, the construction firm handling the dualization of the East/West Road by gunmen.
A Lebanese engineer working for the construction firm was abducted by the heavily- armed gunmen, who stormed the construction site of the company at Ekuigbo-Ughelli at about 8am. The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity said the expatriate was whisked away by the kidnappers in a Mercedes Benz 190 car to an unknown destination. http://www.osundefender.org/?p=80552 |

Politics › Re: FG Is Killing Ekiti State by PaulJohn1: 2:57pm On Dec 09, 2012 |
Not just GEJ should be blamed, I think Ekiti representatives at all federal level also need to be questioned. Ekiti has representatives as minister, senators, house of rep members but still can't make the state development their priority as elected or selected leader, by persuading the FG for attention needed by the state. This is how it has been for years, may be Senator babafemi's objection that has brought the FG's notice to the constant negligence of the state would put an halt to this. Drove through Ekiti(the capital not inclusive) some months back, the state has the worst road in S/West with absence of any FG's project. |
