We were made to fill in our uniform sizes during the online NYSC registrations. The uniforms included the following: The Crested Vest, two white shirts and shorts, the khaki ,two pairs of stockings, white canvas, a belt, a cap and a pair of jungle boots. When we got to camp, we thought we had pre-ordered our kits online. Alas, we were wrong. The official in charge of distributing the uniforms just dips her hand into a large sack and presented to you anything that comes out Just like a raffle draw. I was dazed. My clothes were oversized and my canvas was like wearing a “paddle” “Who wants to exchange? I have size 45…” was the cry of the night, everyone had to find someone to exchange with for his/her perfect size. Well, during my service year, i saw all kinds of NYSC uniforms, the “baggys”, the slim fits and the S.U types. Recently, the picture of a female Corps member serving in Ogun state surfaced online and it has gone viral. She decided to look uniquely different in the NYSC outfit, telling us that ‘Normal is very boring.. Last time I checked, we were supposed to be ambassadors of the Scheme and represent it well. I don’t even know what to say. I will rather keep quiet and listen to your opinions. #CorperDiary

HOW I GOT INTO PROBLEMS AFTER ATTENDING THE WELCOME PARTY ORGANIZED BY MY CDS GROUP The day my CDS group organized a welcome party for all Batch A corps members is one that I won’t forget in a long while. The initial venue of the party was the Federal Medical Center Auditorium but it was changed to Dukku Barracks for some uncontrollable reasons. On hearing that the venue had been changed, I decided that I would no longer attend the party. This was because I knew I could not cope with the Barracks’ stringent rules and regulations. However, the strong persuasion of my colleague made me to alter my decision. Had I known, I would have listened to my inner voice. The CDS party started well and towards the end, “Item 7” was distributed. After getting my share, I decided to leave as it was getting late, and the power supply was also interrupted. My inability to see clearly made me walk towards a wrong direction, and I lost my way in the Barracks. Luckily, I met another corper who lived in the Barracks and he assisted me in locating where I was coming from (the party’s venue). On getting to the venue, I mingled with the people moving out of the hall, with the hope that at least one of them would know the way out. Although, they could recollect the way out, I got to know that none of them had been to the Barracks before. We did not realize that there was a pedestrian walkway, so we were walking on the main road. That was how we got into trouble with the soldier on duty . . . click http://corperdiary.com/cds-party-wahala/ to Read full story

On Thursday, a member of the Nigerian Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Dr Iniabasi Bassey, donated drugs and mosquito nets valued at N1 million to internally-displaced persons IDPs camp in Yenagoa. “I had earlier visited the camp to see what can be done to assist the women and children suffering in the camp. “I was moved with the deplorable situation at the camp and took it upon herself as part of my primary assignment to put a smile on their faces,’’ she said. The items were part of Bassay’s community development project(CDS). Bassey, who is deployed to the joint military task force in the state, said the gesture was mainly to assist the displaced people. . . . read full story at corperdiary.com
