Hello,

Please I did my medicals on Thursday but I have not heard from the embassy. I know they have received my medical result from the hospital because I can see it is under review in my application status. I noticed this on saturday night (i dey check that thing every hour). Please how long does it take to review medicals. Is submission of passport in Oregun (where biometric is being done)?

Thanks for your reply. Looking forward to more medicals here because I don't like to walk alone smiley

The concept is to convert your 5 point cgpa to a 4 point scale. Use the formula below:

(X/5) * 4 = y
Where, X is your 5 point scale cgpa
Y is your X converted to a 4 point scale which Canada uses.
E.g if u finish with 3.0 out of possible 5, then
(3/5) * 4 = 2.6

Peace
Baba it is not as direct as that ooo... Of course, that is a simple way to convert but grading systems are different. They have the A+, A, A-, B+ and what have you and each of those grades carry different weights. While in Nigeria it is just the plain A, B,C,D etc. A professor there once told me that a Nigerian 3.50/5.00 is roughly equivalent to their own 3.2/4.0. But if we do the maths normally a Nigerian 3.50/5.00 is equivalent to 2.80/4.00.

So my advise to the OP is to check the departmental site of all his interested Uni's. Some have different countries and their grade point conversion scales. Some just look at your last 2 years course and check out the number of As and Bs.

In summary, grade point conversion is not as easy as it seems. Cheers!

sometimes i wonder if peeps here are joking with some comments. how can you possibly compare the human skin to plates or teeth. we also seem to ignore the abrasive nature of soaps. Soaps in itself are pretty abrasive when washed with a solvent such as water.
personally, I don't use sponge because it is too strong for my skin. It's been over a decade now and I can't see what would make me use sponge.

you are welcome sir.
Seriously, why don't you challenge their decision for 'delaying' you, I read on a forum where somone said he decided to challenge their IELTS results. his paper was remarked and he performed outstandingly, only with #15k additional cost.

Before I joined NL, I found the Denial Cases appealed in court, and many of these cases were won and lost. I discovered your winning depends on your appealing power.
Canadian high commision is on another level entirely compared to 9ja, you are free to appeal any decision as you deem fit. Even the Canadian institutions give you the right to appeal any 'bone of contention'.
(I saved the appealed cases pages on my phone, I hope to upload them if i find them)

reading this:
If an officer has concerns/doubts about the applicant’s bona fides, the applicant must be made aware of these concerns and given an opportunity to refute them.
AND this
In applying for a study permit, a student must first and foremost clearly demonstrate to the Visa officer that he or she intends to respect the requirement that study permit holders leave Canada by the end of the period authorized for their stay which usually corresponds with the completion of studies and expiry of their study permit..

From the two stances above, methinks a case can be appealed if you feel you confident enough.

* an agent I wanted to use, a Lawyer, gave me a gist that, their decision can be appealed. These VOs are human beings, and are different, do you know , if another VO had considered your application(maybe another VAC), you could have proceeded with your application?

Kaynine59, I am a novice here, but I don't see reasons why you can't appeal your case...if you have any on the first place.

Please house, don't mind my verbosity, what are your expert views on Appealing Decisions? @Siga, @ferdimanco,@justwise@pchax...please let us roll on this, i don't want us to silently accept unfavourable decisions.
Peace.
After doing a little reading on the subject of appeals as regards the topic of discussion, it seems pretty transparent and straight forward. I tried searching forums to read experiences of folks who appealed but it seems many people do not appeal. Unfortunately, I do not have much to say based on experience of other people as regards appeals. But i trust it is a cool path one can tread if he can pay for the services of a lawyer.
Cheers!

Hi good people of dis great forum, pls can someone help list schools in canada that offer full financial aid/scholarship to international students with 2.1.
Of course! Just follow the steps below:

❖ Google list of schools in canada (top 30, top 50 or whatever).
❖ On each university, go to department's page that offers the course you want to go for.
❖ Most of them have a section for "Tuition and Scholarship". The info you are looking for is there.
❖ If it is not there, go to "Contact Us" and send them a mail of enquiry. They reply very fast.

Best of luck!

Good afternoon forumite....I have been admitted into a canadian uni for a graduate program with a scholarship/funding of 17,000 per annum for two years
I am about applying for Visa the problem I am having is non of my relatives or family members seems to have a good account interms of SOA of sponsors. But there is someone in my uncles office who is ready to help me with his SOA and stand in as sponsor. My questions now is as follows-

1)How do I convince the V.O? I heared using a relative is the best bet

2) What logical reasons can I give as regards why someone who isn't related to me in any capacity wants to sponsor me?

3) What documents will I need from the said sponsor who is a non relative?

4) What are my chances with a non relative?

Lastly, can I get people in the house presently studying in Canada and used a non relative SOA account who could guide me through this process. Please help me. Thank you in anticipation
Hello, congrats on your admission. And I really envy your scholarship cheesy. Firstly, there is a part on one of those forms you download from CIC website that talks about sponsorship and tuition. Please mention the funding the uni gave you as it should cover the tuition too. After that, I believe there are some steps that can play out here:

STEP ONE
Use your uncle's office colleague and let him write a letter of introduction and sponsorship declaration. The letter of introduction can include how he met you. how he sees the potential in you and is eager to support you all the way. Let him mention if he has other dependents too. he really needs to make a strong argument as to why he wants to sponsor you and an historically based timeline may be employed too.

STEP TWO
Write a letter of introduction and really put that scholarship in their faces. Not a sentence goes by without you mentioning the scholarship and how it would help you financially. Embed a report of the total amount you are to spend for studies (tuition + living costs ($10K/anum)) and how your scholarship offsets that a little bit. Also show that you can not lose that scholarship by making refernce to you academic history and even go as far as saying that you are optimistic to get more funding based on the quality and ingenuity of your research. Cite some bodies like (NERC, Rockerfeller) or whatever that sponsors people in your area of research. Put that handsome $17,000 in front of the VO

Also, you can use a relative as main sponsor and your uncle's colleague as co-sponsor. For example, I used my Dad as my main sponsor (he is retired) and my brother in-law as co-sponsor. My co-sponsor said he is ready to assist me with 2M/annum while my Dad mentioned he is ready to take up every responsibility (tuition and upkeep). So you uncle's colleague may be more specific with the amount he wants to help you with. This should give his assistance more credibility. While a relative can take the responsibility for up-keeping (i guess your scholarship covers tuition).

Once again, Congrats! And best of luck!

EDIT: I noticed I missed out on the question on what are your chances. Dude, I have heard and seen people who got their TRVs with an SOA that is even less than $17,000. In most cases they prepared a killing Letter of Introduction and Letter of Explanation. Some used both sponsors and co-sponsors and those also prepared some killer letter of introductions. Personally, I submitted a letter of introduction (it was basically summary, explaining the documents in my application package and why they are needed. Thereby doing the thinking for the VO) and a letter of explanation (my reasons for going to canada). Once again, best wishes! And I envy your $17k grin

Good evening .

I just got off the phone with the two recommended clinics on the CIC list in Lagos (http://www.cic.gc.ca/pp-md/pp-list.aspx). One said their fee is 28K, It looks pretty high to me and my Igbo genes wants to explore another option. On this thread, I heard one or two people mention Asaju clinic one or two times. Although the clinic is not on the CIC recommended list, is it advisable to go with them? Is it cheaper?

BTW, the other recommended clinic old me the next available date for an appointment is 2nd December. I said Tufiakwa!!!

Does anyone know if there is a need for revalidation of receipt upon defferal of admission? Not like am refiring, am just curious.
Sorry to hear about your challenge bro. Ironically, I have not even paid my tuition. I used a sponsor (my dad) and a co-sponsor(my bro-inlaw). I would post my documents here when I finally get the REAL thing.
I do not know about your school policies on fees and deferrals. I would advice you send mail to accounts department of your school about that.
I am curious why you do not want to refire thoughhuh

Cost me 7K5 after series of negotiations. Took me two days. Go with a photocopy of your passport and passport photograph and ask for forensics in Alagbon. For the procedure, just get ready to get your fingers stained practically.
Someone that went with a uniformed officer spent 5K. So it all depends on your negotiating power.

I don't really understand why my post was ignored by many on the forum. Thank you so much. Please any one can help me with the format on how to write to a prospective supervisor. my mail is: imakulato@gmail.com.
To write to a potential supervisor, keep the mail short and straight forward. The subject of your mail must be explicit cos these profs receive tonnes of mails everyday. Your first paragraph can be introducing urself, ur sch, ur course and ur gpa.
Second paragraph is how ur research interests match theirs. Third paragraph is thanking them for reading the mail and working with them means the world to you. Below is one of the mails I sent to a supervisor that was luckily replied to:

Dear Professor PotentialSupervisor,

My name is pchax and I am a recent graduate of Computer Science with Mathematics from XYZ University, Nigeria.

I intend starting my Masters in 2015 with the ultimate goal of getting a Ph.D in Canada and I came across your Natural Language Processing research group. The projects done in the research group are fascinating and I find them interesting. I have some background on NLP from my undergraduate days using NLTK and currently, I work with some Machine Learning algorithms (Linear and Logistic Regression, Classifiers - K- Nearest Neighbours) using python.

I see the NLP goup in PotentialSupervisors University has the ideal place for me to hone my skills and learn while collaborating with other people under an experienced guide. Does your lab have any open position for Masters students? Would avail myself to any form of interview or screening you dim fit to give me.

Thanks.
Pchax.

Those profs do not reply every time ooo... so do not be dissapointed. Also tryout google for more ideas...

EducationRe: They Should Cancel The Art Class In Our Secondary Schools! by pchax: 9:38pm On Nov 13, 2014
It is this kind of posts that make me weep for Nigeria because we do not value the innate talent we are born with. Let me explain. Most Nations or Cultures have an aspect in which they are naturally good at and excel in with little or no efforts because they are born with it. China and other east Asian countries are good at Arithmetic and other courses that involve calculation. The Germans are known for Engineering Design. Italy, fashion design. For Nigeria it is ARTS!

Arts is one of our innate talents. Think about anyone that has put Nigeria on the global map in terms of intellectualism and innovation and they belong to the field of Arts. Wole Soyinka is a Nobel Prize winner in Literature, Chinua Achebe has won the Man Booker prize. Can you mention a scientist or mathematician or engineer in Nigeria that has smelt that level of International recognition that can rival the Nobel Prize and Man Booker? We have other great artists like Ola Rotimi, Lamidi Fakeye, Ladi Kwali etc that have made their names in the international scene but where are our scientist. Heck, Femi Kuti was nominated for a Grammy! You can see Nollywood productions growing in quality and having a revenue that doubles every year and coming close to Bollywood and Hollywood in terms of Market share capital. Can you compare CCHub in Yaba to Silicon Valley or New Delhi? No! BTW, I am a Computer Science graduate and I work in the IT world in Nigeria so I am not biased. Chimanda Adichie, Ben Okri, Emeka Okere and other new generation writers and photographers are always challenging on the international stage and creating products that have international appeal. But our science and tech industry is really not existent. Just show me a machine or software package, or programming library or medical procedure that is being used worldwide that was developed by a Nigerian in Nigeria.

Now OP is saying ARTS should be scrapped in secondary schoolshuh Heck, NO! Infact, the government should scrap all these technical colleges and replace them with dance, writing or photography schools because these things come naturally to us and we excel in them. The way Indians understand medicine, that is how we easily understand drama or poetry. As for job prospects, there are lots of them. I have a lot of friends who studied dramatic arts, english, fine arts etc and these guys constantly travel out for exhibitions, shows etc (most of them are sponsored by international bodies though like the British Council). I envy their lifestyle. I am stuck everyday in go-slow commuting to the Island to resume my IT job. My writer friend is presently travelling around Francophone African countries writing about their culture and dressing sponsored by the French blah blah blah institute.

Abeg, no make me vex for you OP... ARTS must to continue!
