RomanceRe: Dilemma Of A Single Female Banker. by pchax: 9:47am On Nov 13, 2014
I never knew banking halls were a common pick up spots. I hardly enter banks except to pick up my new ATM Card or Token and I don't even send dem cashiers/bankers. But truthfully speaking, ladies in the corporate world (not just banking) need to learn a lesson on humility if they want to get married.

cramjones:
I remember a bomb hit Boston and killed 2 Americans who participated in the Boston Marathon. The whole media was awash with the news. CNN and other mainstream media gave us minute-by-minute update on how the two suspects were being tracked. Nigerians got so interested and emotional about people they knew very little about. The Nigerian social media space trended with things like "Pray for Boston", "America we are with you," Even the Federal Government of Nigeria extended their sympathy to the people of the United States. While the hollywood-like search for the two suspects went on, there was at least 7 bomb blasts in Nigeria that killed scores of people, yet the same Nigerian's that were all over social media "praying" for Americans moved on and kept mute like nothing happened. What did the GEJ do? He went on a campaign rally dancing behind a twerking woman, whose picture was circulated by my friend and brother Nasir El-Rufai.

A word is enough for the wise!

-CramJones
I totally agree with the bolded above... We seem to have lost apathy for Nigerian lives. It is very sad that you now turned it to another GEJ vs GMB cliche rhetoric that has been spamming NL threads these days. Loss of apathy by Nigerians for fellow Nigerians is not about political parties. Cheers!

I've been following this thread silently... guess its time i check in. Please house, i'm a 2.1 graduate (3.56/5.00) inspiring to run a masters program in canny. I intend obtaining M.Eng in mining engineering. Applied to mcgill and queens uni. Now, my little comma is:
(1). I had a 2:1, however 3.56/5.00. Do i stand a chance of getting admitted in2 any of the aforementioned uni?
(2). Is it necessary i send a copy of my secondary school transcript, although, i've sent my uni trans.
(3). don't have any 1 in canny and judging from all i've read on this thread, we have a whole lot of dudes here in canny. please, what are the prospects of securing a job after masters{particularly in engineering, if possible mining engineering..... done my research online.... all i see is sweet news about canny and mining..... but fact is, all we see online are uploaded by dudes....so having a factual answer from someone over there is more authentic than internet info. Thanks
I had the exact same GPA you had and I got accepted. So yes, it is possible. I would advice you apply to two more schools if you have the $100 so as to increase chances or you correspond with potential supervisors in those schools you applied to. Btw, my school is Windsor.

Hello house, pls help! I joined this forum shortly after I submitted my application( tho it was done by an agent). I just realised that she didn't include SOP among my documents meanwhile, i came to understand wat SOP means in dis forum. Here are the documents I submitted I just want to knw my chances of getting a TRV.
LOA,admission letter, affidavit of sponsorship from my sponsor(maternal uncle),
My SOA(4.4mil), sponsor's SOA over 13 mil closing balance( fixed deposit account), letter of sponsorship, photocopy of sponsor's passport and bio data page his visas and stamp , my int passport bio data page (never travelled outside the country). She didn't include an introduction letter from my company, no study leave letter and no police certificate. According to her she said if they need more document they wld let us knw bt am still worried. Someone pls give me an ans. Thanks.
I became worried when I reached the bolded part above. Please start processing the character clearance police ish now. They WOULD ask for it. I have heard of some cases where they told people to submit some missing documents that they deemed important without rejecting the application out rightly. That your agent looks like a learner though with all due respect. Just keep praying and be hopeful. It is well!

I usually read and pass, but your tactical and smart display of ignorance and illiteracy is something i cannot just pass over.
The composition of your ignorance is unfathomable as you went on to even defend it with this kinda bullcrap.

You need to re-educate yourself. Let's just call it personal development.
You need to create a personal development plan to bring out your self from ignorance, raise your literacy level and see if you can be a better civilized individual for the sake of our society.

I wouldn't blame you though, Nigerian educational system has failed us all.
I wish you well in your quest for knowledge
Jeeez! You seem hurt and frustrated. I respect people's opinions but I see it as a sign of immaturity when you just have to be condescending and caustic while jumping into un-informed conclusions to make your point. I guess you can't help yourself. I wish you well in your travail to get out of the bitterness that you are rooted in. Cheers!
EducationRe: Man Beaten For Molesting OAU-Ife Student by pchax: 10:38pm On Oct 29, 2014
I see a lot of "jungle justice" comments and some go as far as slating the students of the great school for such a barbaric act. I would play devil's advocate here. Permit me please.

Firstly, I would start by saying that the most organized and civilized set of students you would meet are OAU students. You can talk as much as you want when abusing someone but the moment you raise your hand to hit someone, you are in for some disciplinary actions to call you to order which is otherwise known as maximum shishi.

Maximum shishi is not jungle justice at all. It is a tradition and it is well calculated and not meted out impulsively. It is dished out after careful and fair consideration by a size-able amount of student representatives and it is served hot. On the other hand, jungle justice is just a knee-jerk reaction of some uninformed set of people to unleash their barbaric nature with an aim of destruction. Maximum shishi does not aim to destroy; it aims to correct.

A little story to back up my point. I have been a partaker of maximum shishi in Awo Hall. It was my freshman year and I hit an annoying roommate of mine after a long roll of exchange of words (I was way taller than him and I had those little anger issues that come with youthful exuberance). The guy reported to the hall execs and I was dragged from Angola to Awo in the company of a couple of slaps and a torn shirt. On reaching awo, the first question I was asked by who I don't know (cos I was just a Jambite) "are you a cultist?". To cut the long story short, I was well beaten but not paraded around shaaaa and I learnt. Till today, I do not get angry easily, I have not laid hands on anyone and I doubt if I would ever. Thanks to maximum shishi.

Greatest of the greatest Ife! I bet, this man's life would never remain the same again. Thanks
RomanceRe: Women; Becoming Assets Rather Than Liabilities by pchax: 11:01pm On Oct 28, 2014
Gorgeous58:
Strive to be the kind of woman who, when your man hits rock bottom, when his business fails or he is retrenched from his job, can carry the family through. You must be able to provide what he otherwise would. This thing of women who sit doing nothing, and when a man goes through a difficult period, cannot come through for him, or at least even help him make a plan, is not on.
I agree with most part of the opening statement but sometimes, an average man may not want you to help him make plans. It is not that women are a liability if they do not make plans or come through for men during difficult periods, it is just that men might want to go through it by themselves in their own way. Not being able to provide for your man in his time of difficulty does not make you a liability. You become a liability when you provide for the man and you keep nagging about how he is mis-managing funds and the likes. I agree, that women should support, but the most appreciated support a man needs is mostly in moral support and emotional support.

Gorgeous58:
Let us start hustling with our men. We must stop being liabilities when we have what it takes to be assets.
Traditionally, the African woman is one of the most hardworking in the world. It is in their genes. The second richest demography in America are African American Women. The African woman is a hustler by birth. She wakes up first in the morning to prepare the food, goes to the farm as soon as the sun is rising, seeks the shelter of the market in the heat of noon while trading and performs household cores in the evening. She never rests. That is why I am confused when I see these new generation of ladies who just want to sit down in front of TV all day with the hopes of marrying a rich guy. That is an aberration to the work ethics ingrained in an African woman. Kudos OP for the re-awakening.

And if he does not resign what will they do? Impeach him? They dont have the necessary two thirds needed to do that.

This is some crazy catch 22

Nigerian politicians are clowns and sometimes, good strategists
Assuming they need 2/3rd to impeach him, I don't see this being a catch 22. If it were a catch 22 scenario, they would need 2/3rds to impeach him; and to get 2/3rd they need to impeach him which is not obviously the case. BTW, they need a simple majority. Messed up law right?
TravelRe: Niger Bridge Is Shaking. by pchax: 1:38pm On Oct 28, 2014
Dear OP,
I do not know if anyone mentioned this, but all bridges shake if a heavy load is stationary on it. That is why you are advised to keep moving on bridges and in some countries, it is a crime to drive below a certain speed limit on bridges.
During the Christmas period, the FRSC guys usually block both ends of the bridge any time there is heavy traffic to make sure there is constant movement on the bridge. I guess they were MIA today. Ndo!

BTW, the 2nd Niger bridge is imaginary and it exists in the spiritual. You just have to open the eyes of your understanding. smiley

PoliticsRe: Nigeria's Most Beautiful Buildings (pics) by pchax: 7:21am On Oct 24, 2014
When you talk about beauty of buildings, we talk about the innovation involved in the architecture not the interior decoration. Some of these buildings are just regular tall buildings (NNPC Towers) while the others just have awesome interiors (Le'Meridian Akwa Ibom). I wouldn't classify them as "BEAUTIFUL BUILDINGS".

I am surprised non of OAU's building's was listed because the school has some awesome architectural masterpieces like Spider House and the New Museum. I would even replace Le'Meridian with Akwa Ibom State Library that looks glassy and classy. Anyway, I am happy that such building are in Nigeria.

FamilyRe: Share You Bed Wetting Stories As A Kid by pchax: 9:11am On Sep 27, 2014
I can still remember myself bed wetting but I can't remember the age or class I stopped but I can vividly remember a spectacular incidence. I was about 7 or 8 years old and we travelled to the east for Christmas and to see grand ma. In my village, we do not kill snakes especially pythons. So on that fateful day, with the december harmattan breeze blowing fervently, I woke up late as usual but instead of my senior brother which I shared the same bed with being by my side, low and behod, it was a PYTHON! I jumped off the bed like a spring that was released from a faulty pen and ran outside crying (as I am typing this I am even scared). My uncles, aunties, cousins and siblings started laughing at me. My Grandma later told me that she told the man in the village who summons snakes to bring one into my room. She did that to "punish" me (I can't really recollect are reason) but it was shaa because I was bed wetting. Since that day, no I have never ever bed wetted. It was a successful remedy but it took me long before I could forgive her smiley.

Holmes007: Q1- the letter should say he his sponsoring u so that your needs are met unquestionably in Canada. I think He should not involve ur primary sponsor in the letter(like since pri sponsor is doing this;i will do this). Let them be independent of eachother.

Q2- ur co-sponsor should state clearly his sponsoring intentions. See ans 1....

Q3- a letter is actually more appropriate. If ur co-sponsor is a close relative u can use only a letter (u can add afidavit as well oh). If not u can if u want to since the primary sponsor has done 1 already.

Note: all letter's must be duly signed.
Thanks for taking time to reply. I guess I need to think of his sponsoring intentions. Thanks!
TravelRe: Travelling To Canada Part 6 by pchax: 7:54pm On Sep 24, 2014
Hello People, please indulge me to ask another set of questions.

So I am using a sponsor and a co-sponsor. Sponsor has a letter from the bank that says money in fixed deposit is for my studies. Co-sponsor wants to go swear affidavit tomorrow but doesn't know what to swear to since my sponsor stated he would cover all but not restricted to tuition, travelling, medical etc costs.

Question 1

So, What do you think can be in my co-sponsor's affidavit of sponsorship. Can he say that he is willing to sponsor anything not covered by my primary sponsor or he is willing to sponsor all the things stated by my sponsor or he is willing to sponsor me with a specific and stated amount of money per year for the duration of my studies in addition to that of my sponsor? Abeg which one of the affidavits scenarios would hold more water?

Question 2

By extension, I guess this is just a specific way of asking the generic question "What else would a co-sponsor agree to sponsor that is not covered by the primary sponsor?"

Question 3

Also, has anyone got his application approved just by a letter of sponsorship not necessary an affidavit. Co-sponsor is kind of reluctant to go to court.

Thank you.

Hello Fellow Study Visa Applicants,

I have been noticing a couple of post talking about what to write in the SOP. I was about starting a draft on my SOP and I was looking for resources and samples when I stumbled on this. Although is from the Canadian High Commission to Kenya but I guess the tips on SOP there can guide us when writing our own.

I reproduced the tips below for ease of accessibility and data costs:

Study plan: Please submit a one page study plan which answers the following questions and includes any other information relevant to the processing of your application:

❖Why do you wish to study in Canada in the program for which you have been accepted?
❖What is your overall educational goal?
❖Why are you not pursuing a similar program in your country of residence?
❖What research have you done into studies in your country of residence/citizenship?
❖How will this program enhance your employment opportunities in your country of residence/citizenship?
❖What ties do you have to your country of residence/citizenship? Note: The visa officer may request additional documents or a personal interview.
❖If it has been more than 2 years since you have left full time education, please provide your C.V. (resumé)
❖In the case of a minor applicant, what are your reasons for studying in Canada? What is your parents’/guardians’ immigration status in their current country of residence?

Cheers!

Hello,

My Dad's SOA is from a fixed deposit account. He deposited 12M there some time back but going through the SOA, it states an opening balance of 50K and closing of 300K. Please bankers in the house, what is wrong and how can this be explained? My dad also got a letter from the bank that states he has 12M in a fixed deposit and it shows the interest rate, the date it was put in and the date it would mature. Can this SOA still be used in combination with the letter?
