Hello folks, been a while. Abeg, please can someone provide a link to the places in Nigeria where biometrics can be done? I'm seeing Lekki online but the last time I did it, it was Oregun. Just looking for a second confirmation on Lekki. Thanks! |

invincible2006: Depends on the officer that attends to you. As for me, all I showed the lady that attended to me the electronic copy of letter of admission from my school and my hotel accomodation approval (school arranged that one too) in addition to my passport of course. Was also asked a couple of questions. Really personal questions like where my Father works, if I have paid my fees etc. The other guy that I travelled with was just asked what program he was coming to Canada for and his immigration officer was giving him advice about surviving in Canada and joking with him while processing his study permit. He also told him not to mess around with girls 1 Like 1 Share |

Bennet642k2:Sorry to hear about your delay. Working on the assumption that the VO who reviewed your application was not drunk, kindly note the following points. 1. How to satisfy the officer that i will leave Canada after my studies? This is basically a home-tie issue. Some people use spouses. Others use family business. I used my long term goal. Your 1st paragraph in you SOP can contain your long term goal in relation to Nigeria and how the studies you are embarking on can make you achieve that goal. 2. Length of proposed stay in Canada ? ( I wrote an SOP and attached is an offer letter)Did your offer letter EXPLICITLY state how long your program will last for? Mine did not. It just gave a range of 4 - 9 semesters. The onus lies on you to state EXPLICITLY how long you plan to use to finish the program. Your sponsors should also collaborate how long you want to stay by stating EXPLICITLY how long they plan supporting you for. 3. Purpose of visit ( for sure i am going for study this one made me really angry so much.....)Really hard to play devils advocate on this one and assume the VO isn't drunk but you can look at the subject of all letters you submit. State it there that you are applying for a study visa in the subject of your letter of introduction. Your sponsors should also mention that. I assume you did that, so I will stop talking at this point. 4. my personal assets ? ( do they mean landed proprieties ?)Literally, that's what it means. But tonnes of people have got their TRV without using any landed property or even personal SOA. 5.travel history?Been to Iran, Syria or Turkey in the past 12 months? There is a part in one of the forms where you fill where you have been to. 6. my current employment situation ( finished NYSC last yr no job yet. Wat exactly do they mean?)NYSC is a job. Include it in your CV and state what you did during service. Don't say "no job yet". Are you studying for a professional exam? You can use that as what you currently do and add a spin to it to make it go in line with why you want to pursue your studies abroad. There is always a spin to add to the employment thingy. Pls help me I'm confused...Same here. I think the VO is pretty drunk or you might not have filled one of those computer generated forms. Best of luck if you want to refire. 10 Likes 1 Share |

Graphical: Hey! The more, the merrier!!! Please shoot! The only donwside I see is bulky documents because you have to prove relationship with 3 of them, prove they are financially capable and prove that it is their utmost joy to sponsor you. Really, go ahead! Best of luck! 2 Likes |

Team12: Don't sweat it about the CAC documents. The Architecture stuff should be sufficient. You don't want to push your co-sponsor that hard that he revolts. If you are not still satisfied with the Architecture certificate and he doesn't want to release his CAC docs, you say he is a big shot in the Architecture industry, then his picture with his position or something might have appeared in the news. Print the newspaper page. I have not seen anyone do it here though but i guess it will work because I know someone who used it for an American Visa application to prove he was an executive officer in a bank. He included ALL newspaper cutouts where his face appeared. Wishing you the best! 5 Likes |

justicia: Hello... Sorry about your delay. I have seen a couple of retired Dad's accounts being used here. My Dad is also retired and he was my primary sponsor. I don't know much about your application package, but in addition to what other people have said, note the following. 1) INCOME LEVELS AND CASH FLOW - does your dad have the last payslip of his working days? This can prove how much he earned. His penison and/or gratuity can prove cash flow. The VO doesn't want your Dad to go broke because he wants to take you to school abroad. 2) DEPENDENTS - How many does he have? He can use his SOP to tackle this. 3) CAREER - He can also mention how longed he worked in his career and one or two achievements and say he did all that to see that you get the best of educations. The 3.5M is proof of that. Infact, if the 3.5M is in a fixed deposit, he can get his bank to write a letter to that effect and he can mention it was fixed for your education in his letter (this is common with retired sponsors). To be honest, you do not need to bother your uncle that much because his own side looks cool. His letter of introduction could also be looked at too. But if he doesn't mind, BOTHER him to put more money in his account. It is okay if you feel sad but remain focused. Wishing you the best. 2 Likes |

Gods1son: The only employment docs I included were from my CURRENT job at the point of application (my offer letter, letter of promotion and photocopy of ID card). I mentioned past jobs (including my NYSC teaching job) but did not use docs to back it up but you know, different strokes for different people. I am just saying this to settle your mind and know that the absence of NYSC docs doesn't spell DOOM! You know the most important NYSC document is the certificate. Therefore the question you need to answer is "If I include all other NYSC docs except the most important, will it raise a red flag in my application?". In summary, include docs that will support you application. Best of luck! |

Gods1son: Been following your convo... but mehn, you don't need to focus this much on NYSC by putting all the callup letters or posting letter or whatever. You know what NYSC is? Service to your fatherland. Use that card and play it to your advantage. You can put it in your CV as your current job "Teacher in XYZ Grammar School. Under the National Youth Service Scheme". Or you can mention it in your SOP as part of your dedication to Nigeria i.e "Currently, in service to my fatherland under the youth service scheme, I have experienced firsthand some of the challenges in the country and I believe that with proper blahblahblah (something related to your field) we can solve blahblahblah (a challenge related to your field that is present in Nigeria). Hence my decision to further my studies in blahblahblah". Side Note: I didn't include any NYSC doc in my app because in my callup letter, my surname was misspelled. In my certificate, my first name was misspelled. I just mentioned NYSC in my CV. 1 Like 1 Share |

Been a while... Skimmed through the last 5 pages and I noticed some banning has gone on in the past. Interesting! I didn't even know such a thing existed. I also realized this thread has "internal" moderators. Also Interesting! Being a moderator or a forum like this is not beans and I am not saying we should ban or not ban or whatever but I just hope Oga Siga is a moderator because no one deserves it more than him. I mean, the man has been here since and even after chopping every conceivable Canadian document, he still offers his help CONSISTENTLY. So if anyone is to be entrusted with the power to ban or not, it should be Oga Siga (and we all know he wouldn't threaten us ) 10 Likes |

darefestus: Firstly, a huge CONGRATS on your admission. I`m really envious of your field. Alot of smart minds there I did not get funding on admission because in my school funding comes through Teaching Assistanship (TA) and you can not become a TA if you do not have a 80% GPA. My GP was not up to 80% (3.56/5.00). It differs from school to school though. So I would advice you BOMBARD YOUR GRADUATE SECRETARY WITH MAILS ("Hello Ma, My name is XYZ and I have just be offered an admission to study blahblah...). You can contact your supervisor though to know if he has funding. If he has, he can support you from it in the name of Research Assistant. If he doesn't have and he is taking a course the semester you are entering, you can ask him if the course involves Lab session. If it does, request to be his Lab Assistant. Money too fit komot from that one too. So to answer your question, I don't know HOW LONG it takes to receive funding since there are many varibales involved as I explained above. CONGRATS! 1 Like 1 Share |

Rickywowoz: Read the personal page of the p.supervisors. Some give a format for emails from prospective students and what they expect to be attached. For those who do not put it, I would advise you just send a mail without any attachment. Then if they reply you, send your transcript and CVs. Reason why I say this is that I have met some paranoid academics that do not open mails with attachments from people they do not know (Virus Alert!) 1 Like |

hayqinsbFX: I'll take a bite at this (keep in mind that I am not a VO and it is my personal unprofessional opinion). Firstly, just a quick glance at presented an air of an informal style of writing (with the mention of "dad" or "dads" and also pretty melodramatic (with the use of the word "doom". I believe replacing "dads company" with "family business" would give a more serious feel to what you are describing. Also "a situation which would spell doom for the company" sounds pretty melodramatic and negative. Avoid any form of negativity. Having said that, I believe every paragraph should have a general point it is trying to make and this specific one is trying to state the fact that you would come back. If I am right, then it doesn't do much to state that point cos your brother or cousin can also take care of our dad's company and succefully bid for contracts if you decide not to come back. Also do you need a Canadian degree to manage your dad's company or do your NYSC. Almost every sentence should show why you need to go get that degree. Also, I wouldn't want the VO to note that I have not done my NYSC. Permit me to give it a go at reconstruction based on the two reasons you gave (NYSC and Dad's Company). Hey it is a rough scribble so take it with a pinch of salt: I have got huge interests in Nigeria and I plan coming back to serve my fatherland under the National Youth Service scheme and also to see to the growth of the family business. The family business was started by my father 23 years ago and he has grown it from the ground up and now it employs x staff. I see his dedication to the business and I believe the knowledge I get from getting a masters in blahblahblah would augment his labour over the years and ensure the future growth of the company. Furthermore, getting a Masters in blahblahblah in Canada would not only equip me with the necessarily skills to properly properly manage the business, but would also give me more exposure into blahblahblah and this would profit the business and society at large. Best of luck! 14 Likes |

Bamz: Province/Location [xx] ==> Windsor, Ontario Rent [xx-xx] ==> $300/Month (all inclusive) Transportation [xx] ==> School is trekable. So basically 0 - $10 (majorly on trips to go get groceries). Food [xx-xx] ==> $200 (I cook and I eat 3 times a day and two courses per meal. I barely eat out) Entertainment [xx-xx] ==> Premiership and Champions League on my laptop or in the lab. Phone: [xx]==> $25/month. ~$20 on call cards for Nigeria calls (varies depending on how long or little I call). Total Monthly Expense [xx-xx] ==> $550 - $600 You have to understand that I am just a jjc in Canada so no place to go except research lab. I predict transportation cost will bump up when I start having places to go. Also, settling down chops a lot of money. Which can be almost double the Monthly Expense I listed there. Winter Jacket, Winter boots, Pots etc all chop BIG money. 4 Likes |

Finestlex: Baba... We no dey use textbook as such in my field and my program but they go kill you with research papers. We also have free access to some top libraries where we can get papers, journals and SOME textbooks for free if need be. I guess that is how in most schools for people in a research program. Nevertheless, I sympathize with you on the 1k/semester. That is pretty "criminal". You guys can find a way of circumnavigating that price naaa. Maybe look for the books online or like 5 of you should come together, 4 out of the 5 contribute the money for one book and the 5th person scans it for the rest of the group. I don't know your system shaaa but formula suppose dey |
