Travel › Two Air Peace Flights To Land At Ebonyi International Airport by PDPGuy(op): 4:37pm On Apr 26, 2023 |
Two aircraft belonging to Air Peace will be the first aircraft to land at the new Ebonyi International Airport in the State.
The flights will serve as the Airport’s maiden test flight scheduled for Thursday this week.
This as the State Government on Tuesday reiterated that all was set for the test flight to take place at the Airport located at Onueke, Ezza South Local government’s Area of the State.
Governor David Umahi stated this while speaking with Journalists after the State Executive Council Meeting on Tuesday.
Umahi noted that the two flights of 80-person capacity each will take off from Abuja and Lagos to land at the Airport even as the flights will carry a delegation from the Federal Government for the opening ceremony.
“It will also carry some of our people from the two cities who are visiting the state. After the ceremony it will also take the Federal Government delegation and others travelling back”, Umahi said.
The governor did not give details of those who will be in the delegation but it is expected that the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika will be in the entourage.
The airport is part of The legacy projects of the Governor David Umahi administration to be commissioned.
Others include the Iyere Bridge said to be the longest flyover bridge in the southeast and the King David Umahi University.
Site Manager of the project, Engr. Frank Ngwu noted the airport has the largest terminal in the country.
He said the airport has the single largest terminal building in Nigeria.
“You can see also that the terminal building that we have here is the single largest terminal building in Nigeria, our apron is also the single biggest apron in Nigeria, 133 thousand square meters.
“The International wing is 60, 000 square meters, the domestic wing apron is 60,000 square meters”.
Mr Nwgu noted that the runway is the thickest in the country at 65cm concrete pavement meaning that the biggest cargo aircraft in the world can land on it.
“With what we have here in terms of the size, and strength of our runway we can receive the biggest aircraft in the world”.
Ngwu said that with such big aircraft landing at the Ebonyi Airport.“it will make the price of goods to be cheaper because what five or six aircraft can carry it carries it at once utilizing the same amount of aviation fuel.
“We have a lot to show to the world when we start”, he added. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2023/04/two-air-peace-flights-to-land-at-ebonyi-international-airport/amp/ |

Politics › Nigerians Abroad Remitted $168bn In Eight Years – World Bank by PDPGuy(op): 2:43pm On Apr 25, 2023 |
A World Bank report has revealed that the Nigerian Diaspora community remitted $168.33 billion to the country in the past eight years.
The remittance was made even as the foreign investments inflow into the country remained unstable during those years caused by a scarcity of foreign currency which has since led to the free fall of the naira.
According to data from the World Bank and Budget Office of the Federation, Nigeria’s Diaspora remittances have played a huge contribution in cushioning the adverse effects of foreign exchange scarcity and keeping the country’s forex reserve afloat.
In 2022, the World Bank stated that remittances flow to sub-Saharan Africa grew by 5.2 per cent to $53 billion, with Nigeria getting the largest share.
The figures from the global bank revealed that between 2015 and 2022, a total of $168.33 billion was sent home by Nigerians in the Diaspora.
A breakdown of the figures revealed that in 2015, the Diaspora remittance was $21.2 billion; it plummeted to $19.7 billion in 2016; and rose to $22bn in 2017.
It further stated that in 2018, it was $24.31 billion. It soon fell to $23.81 billion in 2019, and the pandemic caused it to fall to $17.21 billion in 2020. It came back stronger to $19.2 billion in 2021 and by 2022 the World Bank estimated that the inflows into the country had reached $20.9 billion.
Prior to 2020, Nigeria’s remittance inflows had only fallen below $20 billion once, when it fell to $19.7 billion in 2016. According to the World Bank, Diaspora remittance one of the top sources of non-oil foreign exchange for the country in 2022.
It noted that the sustained increase in Diaspora inflows since 2021 has been because of several new policies from the Central Bank of Nigeria.
As of April 19, 2023, data from the CBN showed that Nigeria’s forex reserve was $34.43 billion, an 18.4 per cent increase from the $29.07 billion it was in 2015. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2023/04/nigerians-abroad-remitted-168bn-in-eight-years-world-bank-report/amp/
