after this tournament, this should be the last time she features in RB. I don't care. They should look for someone else. A natural.
Nicole Payne is the answer!!!

So do you prefer Oparanozie? Or we should not play a striker?
Would have preferred Kanu in the center being flanked by Okoronkwo and Ajibade
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by PDPGuy: 10:39am On Jul 27, 2023
My only surprise is the inclusion of Onumonu because I thought we would need speedy players upfront to take advantage of any counter-attacks. She slowed down the few counterattacks the team had vs Canada, but I guess Waldrum needs her to hold-up the ball to bring in the much faster Kanu and Ajibade into more dangerous positions

I hope we have good shooter, because with such height disadvantage, we will be bullied in the paint against taller oppositions
We have at least three excellent 3-point shooters, who are also good in the paint.
With regard to their height, I doubt whether any other African team has players standing over 6’5”. So, D’Tigress won’t be at a height disadvantage at the tournament

July 28: Nigeria v DR Congo at 10:30am
July 30: Egypt v Nigeria at 2pm

The final D’Tigress roster for the Afrobasket.
Center, Blessing Ejiofor, is the tallest at 6’5”

After Waldrum’s contract is over, who should take over as permanent coach?
Ann Chiejine, Wemimo (sp), Dedevbo, Akide?
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by PDPGuy: 2:18am On Jul 27, 2023
That’s an extra big goal for the Dutch because the last time the US trailed in a WC match was against Australia at the 2015 WC, where the U.S. eventually won 3-1

Let's not overestimate our chances yet o.. Australia may be without Sam Kerr, but they're still the better team, plus they have home advantage and maybe officiating advantage..it wouldn't be a good idea to take too much risk, especially given the fact that we aren't known for exceeding expectations. Moreso, ceding that right wing to the Aussies will put Demehin who u have at RCB under immense pressure, and we have seen how she reacts when not under pressure ..
Hmm.. Your points are well noted

Ruling out New Zealand’ goal for offside should be another strong piece of evidence for IFAB to codify Wenger’s proposed amendment to the rule
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by PDPGuy: 8:32am On Jul 25, 2023
New Zealand become only the 3rd host nation to lose a group game, following Sweden’s 1-0 loss to Brazil in 1995, and China PR’s 4-0 loss to Brazil in 2007
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by PDPGuy: 8:14am On Jul 25, 2023
Danielnino00:
So, that formation has a LWB but no RWB.
How does that even work?
We can cede our right side to the Aussies, just as Chelsea, between 2012-2018 always ceded the wide areas to Barca in UCL matches.

Of course, the risk is that our center backs would be overwhelmed with clearing crosses from our left flank. But the frustration that the Aussies may have from having their left wing crosses being constantly cleared would force them to go more central, where our central midfield would nullify their threat

They have conceded 63 goals in WC highest ever for a female national side.
Correct
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by PDPGuy: 6:58am On Jul 25, 2023
Danielnino00:
Why will u have Ucheibe at RWB? Her impact would be affected
Ucheibe won’t function as a RWB; she will be a DM playing in central position. It’s only Imuran that would function as a wing back in my formation.
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by PDPGuy: 6:54am On Jul 25, 2023
BTW, the Super Falcons 0-0 draw with Canada was the first clean sheet by the SF in an opening WC match.. They have previously conceded at least one goal in their prior 8 opening matches.

Moreover, the goalless draw was also the first ever that the Falcons have recorded at the WC

Where Ona take da see all this formation sef? Desire Oparanozie that is not yet fit enough should come and start game 😂😂
If she is not 100% fit, then a front three of Ajibade-Oshoala-Kanu will fit in nicely 😁

I guess it should be.

—Alozie——-Ohale—-Plumptree—— Imuran —-

— Payne —Ucheibe—Echegini——

—Ajibade——Oparaanozie—Kanu——
I’m not convinced with Alozie’s performance as a RB. She regularly mistimes her tackles, and was frankly clueless when she was in attacking positions against Canada.

These German ladies are wicked when you consider these facts 😂

- They thrashed Argentina 11-0 on Argentina’s debut in 2007

- They bashed Cote D’ Ivoire 10-0 on Cote D’ Ivoire’s debut in 2015;

- And have now thrashed Morocco 6-0 on Morocco’s debut.

SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by PDPGuy: 1:07am On Jul 25, 2023
Thoughts on this formation?

——-—Demehin——Ohale—Plumptre——-

——-Ucheibe——Ayinde—-Payne——Imuran—-

———-Oshoala—-Oparanozie—-Ajibade———

Here, whenever the Aussies have the ball, our midfielders (except Payne) and the back three will be primarily tasked with defending.

Then, Oparanozie would be crucial in holding up the ball (which she excels at) to lay off passes to the speedier Oshoala and Ajibade

daveP:
The absence of Sam Kerr has impact on their all rounda approach. She makes things work a great great deal for them. It will work because that is a weakness noticed vs Ireland, esp that gk wey no sabi. It's the midfield battle one can be worried about, but Ayinde is returning.
Won’t be a bad idea if Waldrum deploys a 5-person, or a 4-person midfield.

What is the super falcons biggest lost at the world cup?
An 8-0 loss to Norway at the 1995 WC

This formation would not be bad vs Australia

🚨FT: 🇫🇷France 0-0 🇯🇲Jamaica

Jamaica earn their first-ever point at the Women’s World Cup after holding favourites France to a barren draw.

It’s the first time the Reggae Girls have avoided defeat at World Cup. Unfortunately, star player Khadija Shaw got red carded in the fiery game.
Kudos to the Jamaican ladies for holding their own against one of the best in world!
I think this result is the second biggest upset (per FIFA ranking) in WWC history, after Ghana (then ranked 52) defeated Australia (ranked 15th) at the 2003 WC

Fun Fact: Nigeria is the tallest African Team in the competition....In fact they're among one of the tallest teams.

For reference, Sweden one of the tallest teams, have 12 players who are 5'8 and above, Nigeria also have 12 players who are 5'8 and above.

I think this would be one of, if not Nigeria's tallest team ever.
Amazing!

America’s states and local governments spend at least $115 billion/year to fund their local police forces, who protect a population that is twice that of Nigeria..Meanwhile the NPF barely gets a Trillion Naira
