MSGAMBLE9:
I feel the lure of Olympics might seem too tempting for Arike to switch side to Greens....US is a talent factory with new star burgeoning every other day with their media now raving about Van Lith, Aneesha Morrow, Betts and Donarski... She go wait tire...

Arike needs to wise up now before she reaches 30+ like the Ogwumike sisters...
Yeah.. She should better make the switch now, as she has been part of various USWNT camps for the past 6 years without being selected to a WC or Olympics rooster

I wouldn’t mind an Ex-international handling the team (Mercy, Florence, Perpetual, Ayisat, Ann and Co…) but again will the NFF give them the room to excel??

Again Who noticed Colin Udoh seems to have reduced how he normally talks about the NFF??
Ann Chiejine should be the next in line after serving as an assistant for a decade😁, with Terry as her assistant

Assuming all these prospective players receive clearance from FIFA or are actually integrated into the team, competition for spots on the Olympic squad would be the fiercest in Naija history.

The Senegalese ladies shooting 52% two-point field goals should be a big concern

SportsRe: Nigeria Basketball Thread! by PDPGuy(op): 8:26pm On Aug 03, 2023
@lovewins
You raised poignant points.

However Nneka Ogwumike is already 33, so like Macaulay, she may not be all that helpful to the future of the team.

I doubt whether Arike is interested since she has been hustling to be part of the US team. Maybe she would express interest if she is overlooked for the umpteenth by the US coaches.

Michaela and Queen are more likely that Arike to switch to Naija

4th consecutive finals at the pit,
is no mean feat. congratulations to the girls and their team spirit. it would have been so disappointing if we had lost to an emerging team like Mozambique yesterday.

looking forward to the return of the key players as soon as possible to complement these new lads and create a formidable depth and resources for these giant and tigresss.
Yea, I’m especially looking forward to the return of Promise, Akhator, Macaulay and Nyingifa! Promise would solve the ball-handling issue easily

CAF should start off negotiating for 6 guaranteed slots, with one slot taken away from Asia. Then if there is too much opposition to the original offer, CAF should not settle for less than 5 guaranteed slots.

Yes! D’Tigress are thru to the final

They actually surprised me by shooting 46% from the three-point zone

At the age of 36, Dr Betta Edu will be the youngest ever minister in Nigeria’s 4th Republic.

She is Harvard certified and was the immediate former Commissioner for Health in Cross River

No way FIFA ain't increasing the slots of Africa to 5 or 6 at the next world cup. No freaking way!
It should be 5 confirmed slots for Africa for the 2027 World Cup.

Imagine scoring 8 goals in the group stage, yet crashing out at the group stage! Football can be cruel.

BTW, Germany are the highest ever ranked side to be eliminated at the group stage.
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by PDPGuy: 1:09pm On Aug 03, 2023
Confirmed!

First time ever that THREE African teams are advancing to the knockout rounds at a Men’s or women’s World Cup!!!!
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by PDPGuy: 1:05pm On Aug 03, 2023
Morocco have done it!!

They are now the lowest ever ranked side to advance to the WWC knockout rounds!!
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by PDPGuy: 12:14pm On Aug 03, 2023
If Morocco pull it off, we would have a new record for number of African teams (three) to advance to the knockout round at a single senior women’s or men’s World Cup!

Morocco penalty

Funny thing is, if Morocco wins by one goal, they still won't qualify should Germany win too.
Yea. The same thing that happened to our U-20 team at the 2016 u-20 World Cup May repeat itself. That team was eliminated at the group stage largely because they lost 0-6 to Japan, which badly affected their goal difference.

Watch how Australia defeated England 3 months ago. My hope is that England will continue with their 3-man highline defence. Randy should just play fast forward players and they are in trouble.

Also notice when Lauren James was a threat? When they allowed her too much space as in all cases.

Reason why I don’t want Onumonu to start that game cos she ain’t as quick as the other forwards. Besides, even if the team resorts to crosses, Kanu would still thrive because she is only 2 inches shorter than Onumonu (5’8”, and 5’10”), and has a decent aerial ability

Mourinho was right, Defense is the key to being a successful team. I don’t think our attack is better than that of 2019, just organizing our defense has made us improve so much. Hope fully we improve it more alongside our pass accuracy before Monday’s game.
Yup. Without a good defense, no team can go far

Fun facts:

Four Black-majority nations have now advanced to the knockout rounds at the WC. They are Nigeria, Cameroon, South Africa, and Jamaica!!

Also, Jamaica, Japan and Switzerland completed the group stage without conceding a goal
