My turn came in no time, so I was ushered into the office and offered a sit. After the greetings and all, we got down to business. I told the academic advisor that I wasn’t familiar with the process, that I would need her to walk me through everything step by step, she obliged and proceeded to pull up my file on her computer. The first red flag I noticed was that the she didn’t have my file on the system yet. I raised my eyebrows and was like huh.

She made a call to the admissions department and requested for them to send my credentials down. So she told me to wait outside so she could attend to other people whose files were ready.
I went back to the waiting area and took a sit, asking myself what sort of nigerianness was going on here angry

I had sat there for like 20mins when a lady walked into her office carrying a file. I guessed that was my stuff, I was right.
I was called into the office next, I walked in and sat down.

Well, long story short, the academic advisor looked me in my face and told me my transcripts and credentials were useless. That I would have to start afresh.

She said they don’t accept transferred credits from a professional school. I zoned out. I asked myself why then did they offer me admission? Like who tf made the decision to offer me admission when they knew about the policy they had in place? Why raise my hopes and then dash them to the ground?

I zoned back in to see her smiling sadly at me. I then proceeded to try to explain to the lady how the educational system works, that I had done anatomy, physiology and biochemistry as part of my med school training, I told her they could set up a placement test for any of the courses in my transcript and place me in classes accordingly, she stood her ground, telling me they can’t accept any of my credits. She told me I would have to go take placement tests for math, science and reading, I mad grin

Like wtf! Reading? cheesy
Sorry bro, how can they insist on placement test for reading? With your green card and education it shouldn't apply

I get you bro. But you have to understand that the words "established, meaningful progressive life" means different things to different people. Many just want to stay in a sane society that works and are ready to ditch their "well paying" jobs in here to get that in the western world.

No matter how we want to see it, Nigeria is not working and hence the quality of life of EVERYONE is affected. Even if you live in Lekki, you still don't have 24 hours electricity (you provide it yourself). Even if you drive a GLK 2018, you'll still drive it in the same unsafe and bad roads like everyone else,You are still protected by the same incompetent police force e.t.c .

Take a look at the WEALTHY political elite and the WEALTHY captains of Industry....I can bet you that not up to 1% of them had their children born and bred in Nigeria and schooled in Nigeria. A sizeable amount of them have foreign citizenship or passports(a ready made plan B for themselves)...the proverbial their wealth couldn't save them

If you want to stay in Nigeria "doing well" or not, your plate of beans. If you are disgusted with the Nigerian system, "doing well" or not, take the hike.
Bro, this is not true. I can sacrifice my left balls to say some places have constant light. This is why I said some people are comfortable. Do you know that some guys order custom made cars, some order direct from the manufacturers abroad, will such a person not provide constant electricity for himself or you think he will wait for government? Another thing is that those guys working in oil sector are making money. My friend working with NNPC has travelled twice to America this year, sponsored by the govt. I will never advice him to relocate because the guy is very comfort here. You speak of security, guy you don here say thief enter Banana Island before? Reason things na. You hear say robbers they enter Maitama or Aso villa? Try reason things na, even if e happen i no sure say such thief go survive am. I'm not saying it cant happen, but crime rate is low in rich areas. The rich ones try to provide all these things for themselves. No be Davido buy private Jet? Banky, Tiwa are all US citizens bro, yet them de make am here, dem no fit relocate to Yankee. As a hustler with nothing to lose, all man should try luck but if you are making it here, there's no point.

It's past midnight, I'm here in bed, alone with my thoughts. I went through all the comments on here again about those who have been defending Nigeria and against moving abroad. I'm trying to see if I've been too harsh. Maybe there's hope and I should be optimistic.

I've been at it for over 30 minutes, I'm sorry. I just can't. Nigeria is rotten from top to bottom. I'll touch education for a bit. I came here for a Master's degree. I got my Bachelor's degree at the overhyped Unilag, completed my NYSC and left the country almost immediately.

After my first day in class here, I felt like sending an email to all my past professors in Unilag and cursing them out. I was really late because I could not find the class building as the jjc that I am. I opened the door, walked in and was expecting the professor to send me out or say something horrible. I walked in and everyone greeted me with a smile.

It was like one little family. You couldn't tell who the professor was among the students. Everybody sitting at a table like it was a meeting. There was one guy who had read the materials for the day and he was answering 80% of the questions. The Nigerian in me was getting slightly mad because I thought he was doing oversabi. The poor guy was just answering questions and doing his thing. As old and learned as the professor was, not once did he interrupt anyone while we were talking. We called him by his first name "Peter". It took me over a month to get comfortable calling the professors by their first names.

I got an email after a week from the H.O.D to meet him in his office. While I was there, he welcomed me officially, told me his wife was interested in hosting me for the weekend to welcome me to the town. I felt safe. They gave all grad students a big office with cubicles to study. Classmates interacted and talked, everyone was friendly. Snacks, drinks, coffee were always available in the students lounge and the professors doors were open most of the time. You can easily knock on a professor's door, ask him how he's doing. Talk for a bit and say goodbye.

After class, people would ask: "does anyone need a ride home?" and they would help whoever was interested without any nonsense strings attached. Professors do their jobs! Once you're failing, they know they're too and would try to help you to ensure you pass. If you don't understand a study material, just tell the professor. It's their job to help you pass the class! They'll provide solutions for you.

Nigerian professors feel like gods. You can't even make a mistake. A professor will open mouth and say "Nobody can get anything more than a C in my course" and the sadist will ensure it happens. Once a Nigerian prof says "see me in my office", you know you're doomed. I fear for my baby sister right now who's in Nigeria and I can't even imagine what she's going through in school.

No missing scripts, strikes, unexplained failures, poor living conditions, hopeless curriculum, terrible laboratories, pervert professors, ogbanje classmates... the list is endless. Learning is fun here, you have all the resources available to you if you ever wanna study and succeed. At the end of a semester, students are asked to evaluate professors and give comments on how they can improve. A professor who can't help students get better isn't fit to have the job.

These are the things they won't tell you about life abroad. They will focus on the negatives and tell you how high tuition is, and how you can use that money to start fish farming in port harcourt instead. Money, money, money is all Nigerians see. They worship money the wrong way. Call out an underperforming artiste and say something like "your music video was disappointing", you'll hear "hater, he's already making his millions and can feed your generation". I laugh when I hear such ridiculous things. Smh.
Op this one you are having sleepless night over Nigeria should give you and your parents or sponsors cause for concern. I asked you if you were working because I know that you wouldn't have such time on your hands to keep posting here. It's different for us here as we are not usually paid per hour, it's usually monthly but your productivity over there is measured hourly such that if you are not meeting up, it's easy for them to notice.
I believe they are still giving you school fees so you won't understand how the US system works, that's why we say if one is comfortable here there is no point of selling everything off and relocating because you will need to start all over again and it will take years to reach the level you were back home. Many educated Nigerians are driving taxis, working in burger king, washing plates and dead bodies abroad, if you don't believe me, ask people who are more experienced than you.
What is your solution regarding our professors? The highest ranking tertiary university we have is in Ibadan which should be around 1000th in the world but it's among the top ten African universities and Nigeria has up to 20 universities in the top hundred within Africa, so you should broaden your critism to Africa not just Nigeria. Another point is that this is Western education we are talking about, not African education so you shouldn't be surprised if the West is far ahead of us, it's theirs, we are only learning from them.
Read your books, you have been given the opportunity to get Western education from the source, which is also the foundation of survival there, pray that they look beyond your skin color and allow you to progress. Many cannot afford it, even US citizens have to apply for loans and scholarships to complete university and college.
Many Nigerian parent raise money for their kids to study abroad, all expense paid. Many US parents cannot afford to send their children through universities hence they have to seek for loans and scholarship, many still do student jobs to cope

Infact i cant coint the no of times I've begged my secondary school mates for money to raise me. I'm even tired of asking anymore sef. Right now I've left my secondary school forum cos I've been disgraced out of the group for always asking for help recurrently. Nigerians will not pay a doctor, they'll cheat a doctor, owe him, steal from him, despise him, curse him, even beat him & kidnap him. But they'll still want us to suffer well first like the others.

No way! Enough is enough!!!

Our mumu don do!!!

A country where docs are owed, underpaid, and even cheated join untop. A doctor died of Lymphoma cos he didn't have enough money for surgery, imagine, he couldn't even save his OWN life!!!! Cos no money to help himself in HIS OWN profession!!! doctors have died in the hospital trting to save patients lives. Right now I'm gently nursing hypertension on a daily basis and can't even remember when last I went for a checkup cos no money and no time.

Yet you continue to compare us with other professionals, doing thay alone simply shows you have no value for us, even Somalia don't play with their doctors, they don't care if they don't have anything else bit "food, Shelter & health" is a must!!! But in Nigeria, we prefer to pull our doctor down, so that we'll all suffer 2geda, at least that way everybody go happy bahuh

You're talking about paying cheap school fees, are you telling me your school fees was not subsidised as well? Or you think you don't owe Nigeria too? Do you want to tell me you'll stay back if Yankee opportunity presents itself?

See brother, there's no need for too much story, let everyone do as they understand, at the end water go find hin level lastlast...no need for too much talk.

2020 is the year I leave, all mam for himself, if you have an opportunity to run, abeg run. If you no get, abeg no block road for those wey wan comot.

Live & let live.
O boy, 2020 is too far, leave now. Don't work for that pay because someone like you will kill patients out of frustration. Go abroad, we don't want you here. Start from neighbouring Ghana if you don't have money for Western countries, from there you can get lost abroad forever.

Is they any other fun stuff to do there? I don't like the idea of enduring blistering cold and fog just to climb a mountain.
And why is it called a cattle ranch? I was thinking they'd be cattles and Buffaloes more like a safari.
And the accomodation is nothing special just basic, i think they're ripping people off. When i went to UNN i stayed at golden valley nsukka and the rooms there cost 12k but has cable tv, a spacious bed with duvet covers, Bedside intercom, wardrobe, warm shower, AC and a bedside fridge.

..... (cont'd)

Anyway, today’s shopping was wonderful, I stayed on budget and checked out at a good time (or when I was exhausted). I really don’t know how people can spend 6 – 8 hours shopping at a mall; I give them props because it is already a job. I had no specific shop in mind as I said I’m led by discounts and so when I entered a shoe store doing ‘buy 1 get one free’ and the prices were sweet already, I was dancing in my mind. No questions asked or ambiguous grammar needed – you just buy a pair of shoes, sandals or slippers and pick another one free (of the same quality and type) and I did just that! Then it was New Look store time and as usual 30% off the items in the store and further reductions on already reduced items. I thought to myself ‘how will their profit look like?’ but why should I take Panadol where clearly there was no headache? And so it was in all stores some with ‘buy 1 get 1 free’ or ‘30% off’, ’30% - 90% off’, ‘buy 2 get 2 free’ and even ‘50% off’ everything. I got carried with the deals that I forgot my bag at the shoe section (yes, careless me cry cry). It took a while for me to even remember (don’t abuse me please lipsrsealed lipsrsealed) and when I located the bag, EVERYTHING, I mean EVERYTHING – my dollars, dirhams, passport and even phone were still intact! Now, I don’t want to think of what would have happened had it been it had happened back home (I don’t feel like mentioning my country; let me still be loyal) but these residents in Dubai are real legit mehn! I really couldn’t believe my carelessness or even foolishness but in all I thank God that HE got me! It really was time to leave the mall after that incidence.

Strolling to the food court to pick up lunch before cabbing back was really exciting. There were American franchises, Chinese restaurant, Indian restaurant, you just name it, it was there and well organized. I decided to stick with my usual Dubai ritual which was Chinese takeout because in Nigeria, Chinese was a luxury, here in Dubai, it’s nothing special and very affordable. You really do not have to break the bank to eat well. I ordered my food to go and minutes later was talking towards the taxi area of the mall – there you have taxis lined up waiting to take you to your destination. All those cars that ‘awon’ boys in Nigeria will be forming like they have arrived, are used for cabs in Dubai and they are new, not ‘Tokunbo’ (pre-owned) first grade. My luxurious trip back to my hotel set me back 15.50 AED while metro was just 6 AED! I would have used the metro but for my bags but going forward since sales across malls in Dubai end today, I won’t be buying much. I just will be sightseeing.

Chilling in my hotel room which eating Chinese and watching Marriage Boot Camp online, I knew I had to take advantage of the evening at the Al Ghurair Centre which was a walking distance from my hotel because today marked the last day of the 3 days sales across malls and prices may/will revert to normal come morning tomorrow. I got dressed and headed for the mall, changed money along the way and proceeded to enjoy the last moments of the sale. I was just walking from store to store looking at what I could buy for myself as well as family and friends. The mall was still popping as at 6pm with people trying to lock down their last-minute shopping. I saw denims for 29 AED (29 AED imagine!) but they were all big sizes; I was so burned. I got lost at a certain period because there were so many shops with so many exits and entrances – one thing about their malls is that one road does not always lead to the market. There were so many brands all competing for the Arab piece of cake. There was a particular beauty store selling perfumes and makeup not offering even 1% discount and it was like a grave yard – nobody was in it! Having spent all that I had changed and bought gifts for everybody on my list, I was satisfied because I knew whatever I had left was for me and me alone! It was time for me to pickup dinner and head back.
Princess, what do you do for a living?

So when all the doctors leave Nigeria, the Red Cross and other foreign charities will come and offer real humanitarian services to the sick. The medical profession if you go back to its origin you have to genuinely care for your patients. A lot of doctors and nurses are moving to foreign lands. The honest truth is that money is the motivation. I know I’m going to get a lot of stick for this statement but it’s the truth. Some of them still take their I don’t care Nigerian mentality to the foreign lands.
You're right bro. If they all eventually go, which is my wish since most of them are not good enough. We will then get aid from humanitarians and volunteer doctors abroad who truly care about human lives. This is the best deal we can get, because for now the present crop of doctors have little value for human lives. It is my wish that they all go so that we can get mostly humanitarians working here to save lives
