When me and my wife had our first child, we didn't put him in Daycare.
Before starting Kindergarten, our son spent a lot of his time watching Treehouse cartoons on TV.
Those were English cartoons
Therefore, English become the language he first spoke in spite of the fact we ONLY speak French in the house.
He understood French perfectly but couldn't speak it.
When he turned 4, we put him in a French school. We also called our cable company to request French cartoons channels.
This helped him to become fluent in both English and French.

Our 2nd and 3rd child had a different path given that they were exposed to French Cartoons.
Our 3rd son who is almost 4 is only fluent in French. He understands English but can't speak it
We have set the "No English" rule in the house just like most French schools do

Thus, I have came to the conclusion that TV is a very powerful tool that may help a child speak a language that is not spoken in the house or in the community.
Why not type all this in French? Follow the rule you set in your household, Niggur. A Nigerian, saying no English rule in his home? Brother, you are finished.

Guy, you are playing with trouble. Ask your wife what she prefers before making such decision. I don't think there's anything your MIL will do that you can't handle maturely.

They should deport every single violator of visa stipulations back to Nigeria. Every single one. If you want asylum, apply through the stipulated channels. If you travel on a visitor's visa, return after the stipulated time rather than hiding around. Africans should be part of the solutions to the problems of the continent rather than trying to infest the rest of the world with their problems. Trust Nigerians to always be the most desperate. They saw Haitians moving to Canada, so trust them to hijack the process, the same way they saw Syrians, Libyans etc fleeing war to Europe and Nigerians hijacked the process too and became the no.1 illegal migrants to Europe. The funny thing is it wasn't people besieged by Boko Haram in Borno or Yobe that were fleeing to Europe but Edo, Igbo and Yoruba people wasting thousands of dollars that they could have invested into businesses to pay traffickers to aid them in their North African and Mediterranean crossing. These destination countries have to start being pretty ruthless if they want to end the illegal migrant siege.
Edo/Igbo/Yoruba are the main culprits, u are right bro

Through my exchange with you, I have just discovered that there are two different Catholic school boards in London, Ontario.
The LDCSB (London Discrict Catholic School Board) is overseeing the English Catholic schools.
The CSCP (Conseil scolaire catholique Providence) oversees the French Catholic schools. The Conseil Scolaire Catholique Providence has also jurisdiction over many city of South West Ontario. They also have their own bus system different from that of English Catholic Schools.

The LDCSB requests a baptismal certificate but the CSCP doesn't.

@ Blessedluvdfavd

In addition to the link of the English Catholic School board in Ottawa, I am also sending you the link for the French Catholic School board in Ottawa. Those two school boards (English and French) are two separate entities and each one has its own rules and oversees its own schools.

http://www.ecolecatholique.ca/en (French Catholic School board)
http://ocsb.ca/ (English Catholic School board)

Don't be intimidated to send your children to a French First language school or into a French immersion program.
I have seen a lot of English speaking parents (Including Nigerians and Ghanaian) who can't speak French but put their Children into a French First language school.
Here in Canada, it is a HUGE advantage for someone to have both official language under his belt.
And your children will pick up French fast given their younger age.

Please see Maternal post addressing the advantages of speaking French on the job market
https://www.nairaland.com/3617393/living-canada-life-canadian-immigrant/75#60080728

In addition to what maternal has wrote, I would say that the French community outside of Quebec is a tight-knit family.
This can be manifested by the way Francophone react whenever they hear someone speak French on the streets. The reaction would range from a smile to a warm introduction.
Imagine you get pull over by a mean cop who is so nasty at first till he hears your child in the back seat asks you someone in French.
"Oh! vous parlez Francais".
And when the conversation switch to French, even the tone of his voice would change. The mean cop suddenly becomes a nice guy. And you know from that point that you will get a warning instead of a ticket

There are tons of examples I could write about.
I always advise Francophone to choose French over English service because of the leniency Francophone show toward one another outside of Quebec.

There was a time in Canada history when the wording "French Canadian" was exclusive only to those communities that could trace their ancestry to France. However, today anyone who speaks French in Canada is identified as French Canadian irrespective of his background. The minute you put your kids into a French school, one of the very first things they will learn is their new identity "I am French Canadian " or "I am Franco-Ontarian". And been part of that minority group has its advantages.

Wow. Congratulations on your latest addition! Thank God you and your child are both well. Sounds like you had amazing doctors in the USA. Please make sure you rest a lot, after almost 9 months and having an induction I know you must need the rest! I assume you are a citizen there and won't have to travel back with the newborn? If not please wait until at least the 6 to 8 weeks postnatal check for yourself to confirm the high BP has gone or is being well managed since the doctors you had back home were not up to par (your BP could be pregnancy related and will hopefully disappear).

Let's pray Nigerian hospitals improve, I can imagine how many have lost lives already at the hands of inept doctors. And the fact that more doctors are leaving every day, what happens to those who cannot afford to travel out for medical care?

I wish non-medical doctors could own hospitals in Nigeria, I would have sourced investment funds to do such and perhaps many others.
Madam, it's your type of wife I'm looking for. See someone telling you her child is alive because of America, me I'm alive because of Nigeria, my mama born me here with no complications. I wanna start exporting foodstuffs abroad ma, how viable is this business in UK? I'm thinking beans, locust beans or Ijebu garri.

Actually, I can tell you that a lot of the people processing this permanent residency are operating at that income bracket and above. They are doing so for the following reasons:

1. The future of their children. This is not about money but about citizenship. There are certain things that some passports guarantee you in life. Least of all- if you work hard, you won't be hungry. In Nigeria, hard work and education do not guarantee success and self-sustenance. Not even for the so-called big men.

2. Value for life. Our society does not value human life. People die here everyday and nobody except their immediate family cares. Over there, your life as an individual is valued. No fulani man can kill you or burn your house, not even if he is the president or prime minister. You actually matter.

3. Top notch medical care and it's also free. I used to nuture the dream of riding a powerbike. Until I saw that the president's son had to be flown out after his accident. I gave up. It means that for every biker. OYO lo wa. The government may give you license to ride your bike, but if God forbid, something happens to you, whatever you see, you take. That is even on a lighter note. There are more serious implications for our poor medical infrastructure. I was at the intensive care unit for infants at UNIPORT teaching hospital one day, a couple came with their pre-term child from Bayelsa and they were told no bed space. meaning the child can go and die for all they care or try another teaching hospital. Think about that. On the flip side, maybe one somebody here will be generous enough to tell you about how child birth is managed over there. There are things your 1 billion cannot buy in this country. This is one of them.

4. Your success actually matters. The government creates a lot of incentives for the citizens and permanent residents to do well in life. Actually, they start contributing to a child's welfare from day 1. Give birth and they begin to pay the parents cash for the child's upkeep. I heard this and I wanted to go crazy.

5. Your security- have you ever wondered about how when an American/British/French/Canadian citizen is kidnapped anywhere in the world, the news someone makes it to CNN headlines. That is because they matter. You cannot kill them or kidnap them without implications. For every single one of them anywhere in the world, they are tracked because they are precious to their government.

The reasons are too numerous to count. I am surprised you are on this thread without full appreciation of the benefits of what you are doing. Do you know how many people leave their well paying lucrative jobs in Nigeria and go to Canny to start at lower positions? Why do you think they do it?
Why do you feel the need to write an epistle in response to my view? Even mentioning President's son and bike accident, don't people survive worse accidentz without travelling? Bro, I'm here to see if there are opportunities for guyz like me to start business of exporting but all I see is job seeking here and there. If I'm rich, I won't relocate, this is my personal choice, I'm a business man looking for things I can export to make dough.

Its not really about them but for their children. They are relocating to secure their children future in a country where everything seems to work. - My Uncle, 2009.

My uncle left his high paying job and relocated to Canada with his family. Today, all his children are professionals in their fields of study. While my neighbor who is a banker, has four graduates at home still depending on him for survival.

In Nigeria, being hardworking doesn't guarantee that your children future is secure regardless of how hardworking they are themselves. The country is ge3 tting worse every day. There is no light at the end of the tunnel. embarassed
We are three graduates, here in Naija all working, so what is your response? Your cousins are lazy yuths!

But seriously, black man is not too wise. If I earn a million here will I relocate because of light? Hahahaha I will move to where I can get good supply of light here, then kit my house with solar fully fitted and inverter backup running smoothly too.

Good job, you guys are doing here. I have been considering this Canada express of a thing for over 2 years and my wife is really disturbing me about it as some of her friends are living in Canada but i have some challenges which i will need a sincere advice from the gurus in this forum. Below is my case,
I have been working for almost 6 years as a Drilling Engineer in an oil coy in Middle East with annual take home in the range of $62-70k USD (no taxable income in the country) and i am married with 2 kids. I have been trying to consider this Canada express entry but my research on it is not giving me a convincing reason to do it based on the following, there is job insecurity in oil sector in Canada due to the fluctuation in the crude oil prices as cost of oil production in Canada is quite high and IOC's cut back on workforce and drilling activities whenever there is oil price crash. Also, the salary i see online and based on my discussion with my colleagues working there is too low compared to what is obtainable in the middle East. I tried to have a lengthy discussion with a Nigerian friend working in the same comapny with me but Nisku branch and he told me, i shouldn't consider migrating to Canada due to job insecurity and other factors but could it be, he doesn't want me to enjoy the benefit of PR and Citizenship he enjoys there as this guy was laid off and at home for almost 2 years during the last oil crises but was just called back few months ago when oil prices started picking up. I will need an objective response from the gurus in the house so as to take an informed decision in order to be part of you guys.

Apologies for my lengthy post.
Gracias to you all.
Bros, if you are rich already, what do you want to gain abroad again? The only thing is to expose your children by frequent travels that's all. With your money, you can afford a very very comfortable life amongst your fellow race in Naija and you will be treated like a king. Canada is not the destiny of everybody bro, enjoy your success
