I have an update on a reply here but before I do that. How are you guys that are already in the US having straight A in your courses?. Because I don’t understand how I am expected to have 90+/100 in a course to get an A. What happened to 70 (A)

This Semester I have a perfect GPA(4.0/4.0). Though it was challenging because I took programming courses and advanced level physics courses but what helped me is I was already preparing for the semester since the Yuletide(dec) break. I registered for crash courses online during the break and it was helpful. This summer I plan to do the same while also revitalizing with some sun in the Bahamas again & visiting the city of jazz with my hubby.

I cancelled my Lagos appointment and EA request today so I can switch to Abuja. I was able to use the same MRV fee and still saw the Emergency appointment tab on the CGI portal after updating my profile with a new DS160. However, After submitting another EA request to Abuja, I noticed that the EA tab is now gone on the portal. Did anyone experience this?
It did show that my application is now under review after submitting but just wondering why the EA tab is now gone.

For those that switched to Abuja recently, did you also observe this?
Thanks

It is good to ask here but you can also call the US embassy for clarification. Best!

How do I go about it

Did you check the passport size and illumination level. Your passport should be well illuminated and with the embassy standard size.

I have finished Undergraduate program and Wish to Do my master in USA.
Anybody with Good Information about a good school that offer any thing related to computer science should let me know because i did my first degree in computer science and which to further more in a related cause.
some cause like SISCO, DATABASE, technology related etc.

Please it is very urgent .

Why can’t you use Google? If you are concerned about the privacy of your information you can use secured website like start page. It is easy to search for schools in the US doing computer science. You are just one click away.

A lot of red flag in your application. You will need a strong application next time. You should apply to a decent school like may be BGSU in another state. Also, get some scholarships.

Hello house I have decided to take the TOEFL test. Please who who can recommend websites or material I can use to practice. I intend to enrol for the home based TOELF test. I want to sacrifice one week to study and do the test, is this plan feasible?

It is possible. Depends on how good your English is. Check noteful videos on YouTube. Kaplan TOEFL is also good for reading and writing.

Hi Guys, I really need your advice and imput and I am more than ready to do the needful. I want to start school in the US as early as possible -January if possible. I am currently in the US on a long vacation, I studied Estate Management for Bsc and graduated with a 2.6/5 cgpa cry which I am evaluating with WES currently, also I have a gre score of 331. I have 4 years post-nysc experience in real estate firm, the challenge is I really want a full scholarship as I am self funded. I Intend pursuing Masters in finance or business analytics or an Mba, but with my research I dicovered full scholarship on Mba is rare. I reached out to Howard University but learnt that they are switching there Msc Finance to an online course. Guys Nigeria is tired of me and the feeling is mutual....please advice abeggggg

Congrats on that GRE score but why your GPA pale in comparison? If you have years of work experience it can help but a GMAT equivalent score would have been better for the MBA.

3rd attempt.

*Visa Interview Transcript:*
*Location: Abuja*
*School: University of New Hampshire*
*COA: 72k*
*GA: 58k*
*Deficit: 14k*
*Attempt: (3rd attempt )*
*Status* *VISA APPROVED*

V.O: Good morning

Me: Good morning, how are you today?

VO: Didn’t answer

Pass me your I20
Me: Pls have it. (Placed my hands for biometric)

V.O: You’re going to the University of New Hampshire to study business statistics

Me: I corrected her that it’s business analytics.

V.O: I can see you have an assistantship.

Me: Yes

V.O: What do you currently do?

Me: I work as the business intelligence lead at ***, where I collect sales and customer data and use that to create marketing strategy, better target our customers and improve business processes.

V. O: What are you going to do when you return from this program?

Me: I will return and take up the position of Director if Analytics. I already have a written commitment from my organization.

V.O: You mean ****?

Me: Yes ****

V.O: longest 90 seconds if my life typing and clicking. Then the white paper.

*Personal tip:*
If you’ve been refused before, use the comment box to your advantage. I talked about why I think I was refused (financial plan), then explain what has changed like gre, GA and how I will be working with an eccentric professor. So I think this is why I wasn’t asked much questions, cos I already answered some of them with that explanation. She was focused and impressed with the assistantship and she didn’t even asked about anything pertaining to financials. Plus I wore a suit (if you say you will come back to a management position, please dress like a manager).

Bonus points: If you haven’t, please watch Suit or Billions before interview, so you can start feeling like Harvey in front of the VO

Thanks to everyone on this group. Fairheart, you’re just a blessing. My brother Kelvin messaged me in the midnight and told me he said a prayer for me, then I knew I will get it. I appreciate everyone.

Congrats on your approval. Good-luck in **** in the US.

E-brethren, good day to y'all, GRE is giving me headache especially Quant, my first attempt wasn't good (288) so I'm trying to go again due to my low GPA (2.92/4 Wes Official) Biochemistry. Have already written TOEFL-99. please is Manhattan GRE maths strategy one of the good materials out there? That's what I'm currently using for Quant and I kinda of feel comfortable with it, what do you people advice both based on acing GRE and best schools, have been doing my own research though but any additional information will be invaluable. regards y'all.

If you have cash you can subscribe to the Magoosh & Galvanized Premium plans for Quants or Kaplan for verbal they are good but may be expensive for you. ( I used May cos I dnt know your pocket). Also, check GregMaths & Spartan online if you haven't use them before.

I really want guru who are in united state to help me with this information please. A friend of mine who is doing his master's in Canada finds it tough to pay his tuition fees, accommodation and other living expenses, even with his part time job. And his tuition fees is 14k CAD.

However, this 40k, 50k USD fees even after tuition fees waiver, some total tuition fees still remains 25k usd. am really curious about how would one pay the tuition fees, when we all sincerely know that 60% of people traveling are sponsoring themselves.
Are people dropping out of university?

Even with 1k USD dollar job per month can't still balance the 25-50k USD.

Please I just want more understanding before taking a step or advicing any other person

It looks like you are looking for advice so as to advise someone. US schools are actually expensive. Most people look for scholarships. To begin with applying to schools in the US it is better to look at standardized tests such as GRE and TOEFL prepare well for them and ace them. They can also help the person to get scholarships.

Firstly, I ascribe all the glory to God for His mercies and grace . If you believe in God keep believing, trusting and having faith do not let anyone tell you otherwise. Never underestimate the power of prayer and Grace!
I'd also like to say a big thank you to this platform for the wealth of information/knowledge herein and also transcripts shared, which I richly benefited from.

1st Attempt:
Appointment - 7th June 2021
Consulate - Lagos
Window - 5
Status - Denied.
It was a day of dishing out blue paper, for every 10-20 people interviewed, only 2 or 3 were approved while I was still there (not exagerating, you can ask those that had their interview on that day). I was interviewed by a dark elderly woman (black American in her 50's). On this day I was just gradually recovering from Malaria, so my voice wasn't as audible as it should.

V.O: Good morning, pass me your i20 and passport.
ME: I did.
V.O: Why are you going to the States?
ME: I'm going for my masters in Architecture with concentration in Sustainable Architecture (types...).
V.O: Who is sponsoring? (Glancing at my i20 and then staring at me).
ME: My mom (said where she works)...I also have some personal savings which will cater for my living expenses (types...).
V.O: Do you have proof to show that?
ME: I passed my sponsorship letter (glances through).
V.O: switches off mic and says I should give her
some time, she went inside with my documents...after 2mins she comes back, types for a while and then reached for the blue paper, returns my documents and passport and says I can try again (putting on a pity face). I was in shock as I didn't see that coming and didn't know what she went inside to confirm.

2nd Attempt:
Appointment - 29th July 2021
Time - 7:30am
Consulate - Abuja
Window - 7
COA - $32k
Funding - Nill
Status - Approved (8:30am).
My interview lasted for about 3mins. Interviewed by a beautiful white lady in her 30's. The two guys before me on the row were denied. Immediately I saw that and I was next to be interviewed, I resumed my words of affirmation, declaring that "my case is different, I shall not return with my passport" ( I was the first to be approved In my qeue).

V.O: Good morning
ME: Good morning.
V.O: Place your fingers for your biometrics
ME: I did.
V.O: I can see you're going to BG for your Masters in Architecture (starts typing...).
ME: Yes, that's correct...then quickly added with a concentration in Sustainable Architecture (nods head and continues typing...).
V.O: Will you be focusing on Green Architecture?
ME: Yes, exactly (keeps typing...).
V.O: What will this degree do for you?
ME: I intend to come back to Nigeria and hope to utilise this specialised knowledge and skill acquired in creating a niche for myself as an Architect, and my company where I currently work, here in Nigeria as I would be one of the pioneers to bring this back home (nods head and continues typing...).
V.O: What do you currently do?
ME: I'm an Architect in one of the leading real estate/ construction company in Banana Island, Lagos (nods head and continues typing...).
V.O: Who is sponsoring this?
ME: My mom (said where she works)...I also have some personal savings which will cater for my living expenses (nods head and continues typing...).
V.O: What did you go for on your last visit?
ME: Vacation.
V.O: Congratulations I will be approving your visa.
ME: Thank you.

Then she went ahead to talk of the strict Covid-19 protocol and all but I actually didn't hear anything just kept my gaze on her and was smiling behind the mask as I remembered what peeps here always say about "not hearing anything" (facts).

Advice/word of encouragement:
DO NOT Giveup on your dreams. Stay focused! A delay/denial isn't the end of Life, Try Again! (Na who giveup carry last). Above all, Trust God! Pray, fast if you can. DO NOT tell Lies. Speak with Confidence, maintain eye contact at all time. God that did it for me will do same for you (What God Cannot Do Doesn't Exists) GO GET YOUR VISA's! #Believe.

Congrats

Good pm guys,
Pls I just realized that the duration for my Master's program is for three years. The program starts 23rd of August 2021 and ends 23August 2024.

During this period I am expected to take between 33-36credits.

Does this feel normal?

You can ask your International admissions and / or the Graduate Co-ordinator of your course on why the three years duration.

Good morning. Hope you're good.

It's said that it's better to look ahead and prepare than to look back and regret. So I would like to ask a question relating to having any travel experience.

If one has travelled to at least one country in the past, does one need to get a paper from the country (like police report that Canada asks for) to submit during American visa process?

I will be looking forward to getting your useful response.

Thanks in anticipation!

Nope. The evidence that you visited those countries is on your passport. Best!

Visa Transcript

Consulate: Ankara -Turkey

Attempt : 5 (two B1B2 tourist visa in Nigeria, one B1B2 tourist visa and J1 work and travel visa in Ankara -Turkey).

Interview : As a family (with my Turkish wife)

School : Georgia State University -Atlanta Georgia USA.

Cost of Attendance : 57k dollars

Funding : I would say i am fully funded (monthly stipend and an on-campus employment as a lab Assistant) because without adding my wife as dependent I should have a surplus of 150 dollars but because I am going with her i have deficit of 4,630 dollars)

Program : Department of Mathematics and Statistics (Biostatistics concentration). I already have a masters in Statistics degree from Ankara university Ankara - Turkey which was on scholarship by the Turkish Government.

Visa status : Approved

Nationality : Nigerian

Date :July 28

Interview Time : 10:45 am

In time : 11:15am

Out time: 12:00 noon

Visa interview duration : less than 3 minutes

Visa officer: Black American guy.He should be in his late 30's. His name is Mathew.

He was approving visas quickly. Me and my wife are 191 on the line. The last person that the black guy interviewed was 175 on the line so we were surprised when the VO told the guy calling people in for interview to call us without even following the line serially. I just thought he was determined to give us visa because even when we were in the embassy me and my wife were acting lovey dovey in the embassy and it seems he noticed it. Going for my visa interview with my wife made everything easy because I remembered how nervous I was the other times I went to the embassy alone. We were just discussing inside the hall waiting for our turn to the cynosure of all eyes. It was like...every eye was on us. It really relieved all my stress because i wasn't alone. I had fun as company in my wife.

When we got to the VO:

Me: A very good morning to you.
VO: Good morning to you.

Me: How are you today?
VO: I am fine and you?

Me: We are fine too.
VO: Okay (he took our documents which are i20 and passports and said we should place our fingers to do our biometrics and we did)

VO: Where are you going in the US?
Me: I got a fully funded admission with an on-campus employment as lab assistant in the department of Mathematics and Statistics in Georgia State University Atlanta- Georgia US. I have a deficit of 4,634 dollars because I added my wife as a dependent and my cousin Michael will pay the deficit.

VO: (He nodded and started looking at my my i20 and looking at the computer screen, he is probably reading the comments made by the other visa officers that rejected me in the past). He then asked me : Have you travelled to any other country apart from Turkey?( I guess he was looking at my DS 160 form and saw that I have travelled to France)
Me: I have been to France through Germany for a conference about Woman mutilation in Africa and the protection of the religious minority.

VO: How long have you been living in Turkey?
Me: I have been in Turkey since 2016. I came here on scholarship and i am leaving again for another scholarship in America. As you can see I am married to my Turkish wife (pointing to my wife) and i am on the verge of getting Turkish citizenship.

VO: (Nodding in approval) What is your plan after this program?
Me: I will be returning to my al mata to take up a lecturing job in Nigeria. I have a verbal agreement with the head of department that I will lead the Biostatistics lab that would be opened there.

VO: (He nodded and said) : "Good plan"
Me: Yes

All these while my wife was just looking and smiling sheepishly(lols) and waiting for the VO to ask her questions too and she was shocked when the VO said the golden words : "Congratulations I am approving your visas. Your visa will get to you(me and my wife) in 5 working days. Take care and follow the COVID 19 protocols when you get to America".
Me: Thank you very much and take care.
My wife : Thank you!

VO: Take care!

When we were going out of the interview room, my wife was like....Babeeee....i was waiting for his questions and he didn't even ask me anything. I replied by saying "It's the will of God".

Tears of joy was just flowing from my eyes because I have been denied 4 times- If you know what that means. One thing about this visa stuff, if you get American visa on your first attempt you won't feel the same happiness someone that has been denied before but finally got it feels. The person that has been denied before would always be happier than the person that got it on first attempt. It's only God that did this for me and my wife and not man.

N/B : I just want to tell everyone here on this platform. No one on this Nairaland US student visa section has the power to give you visa. Only God, you and the visa officer make it possible. Why i saying this? I want to tell you my experience with Fairheart. I am not writing this to spite him or make vituperative statements about his person- to me he is a great guy. I wrote Fairheart on whatsapp with the help of a friend who gave me his number. I told him all the issue I am having about being denied 4 times (two B1B2 tourist visa in Nigeria, one B1B2 tourist visa and J1 work and travel visa in Ankara -Turkey). I wanted to have a mock interview with him and he charged me 50k saying he doesn't do it for free. I said that's too much and I can't afford it at the time so I removed the mock interview out of the equation.
Then I asked him his candid opinion about my case because I was helpless at the time and that was due to my past experiences. He then told me that I should remove my wife from my dependant and come to Nigeria and apply. He said it would be difficult to get a US student visa from Turkey as a Nigerian. I told him okay that I will take my chances since I have already book my interview date. So I told him that if I don't get it then I can come to Nigeria and apply.

Behold my brothers and sisters, me and my wife got out visa today. Why am I saying this? Let no one tell you that you can't get visa no matter anywhere you are and no matter how many times that you have been denied. It's only the grace of God, you and the visa officer that decides the outcome of your visa interview.

That will be all for now. Me and my wife are celebrating and popping champagne...shhhhh...no disturbance. Lols!

Congrats. Yes God was in full control but I went through your profile in brevity & I noticed your current profile is nice .You had ties in Turkey & Nigeria. Enjoy your studies in GSU.

When I was directed to her window(7) by security

I NEED EXPERT OPINION ON WHAT PROBABLY WENT WRONG

Venue (Lagos)
VO: Pass me your I20 and Passport

She took the visa and the i20 and after verifying the passport, she started typing and stuff for like 1min.

Then she asked why I was going to the US
Me: I am going to the US to purse my masters in xyz at Mtsu
She nodded and went on typing and checking her system again
It’s took her another minute to ask Why I chose the course
Me: I chose the masters of Hci because I’ve always been a tech savvy person and my strength and motivation lies in the field of commuting and data analytics. While working as an intern in a neuropsychiatric hospital I discovered a gap when it comes to the use of modern day devices and technology to gather, analyze and utilize store information to proper solution for the patient.I also want to build apps, software and provide business solutions that will revolutionize the Healthcare industry in Nigeria. I intend to return back to the country to lecture at the university of Ibadan as an HealthCare Data Analyst while working as a consultant in the medical industry in Nigeria.
Then after like 1min after I answered the question.
She went on typing.. that was it.
She gave a me a blue paper

Is this your first interview at the embassy?Masters in what? What are you doing now? And why you chose the course is not well structured.

Sorry guys, I don’t quite know how to navigate this platform but here is my transcript.

Interview Date: 22nd Oct 2021
Expedited Date: 06th July
Location: Abuja
VO: May i have your passports and I20
ME: Handed over I20’s and 4 passports
Note: I applied with my husband and kids (F2) . First is 4yrs old and the other is 2.
VO: Where do you work?
ME: Greeted and continued to answer her that i work with a non govt organization and have been with them for 4months
VO: Why is your husband going with you?
ME: To support me with the travels, settling down and join in the decision making for my kids school but he will return to his work after we are settled.
VO: What are your post study plans?
ME: The organization i work with have an understanding with me and have given me 2yrs study non pay leave. So i plan to return to them with the skills i have acquired through this course to address these issues that are affecting women in Nigeria.
VO: You will return to a place you have worked for just 4months?
ME: Yes because they’re particular about women and it aligns with the course i will be studying
VO: List everywhere you have worked and the years which you started each.
ME: Saw her looking at the computer and noding in agreement as i talked (guess she was going through my DS160)
All the times i tried giving her a supporting document she refused to collect, she said look me in the eye and answer my questions. I don’t need to see anything.
After typing for about 2mins she said i love that you were bold enough to apply with your kids and husband and i will be approving your visa etc……
My honest advice is fill that DS160 yourself, and remember all you have put there.
I have no travel history, neither does my husband.

Sheer Grace. Congrats.

Good evening, brothers and sisters. Hope you're doing good.

I'm happy to be here today. So far, coming here is the best thing for me because I have read a lot of information about admission process.

Going straight to the point, I hold a B.A. degree in English with a CGPA 3.27. I am interested in doing a Master's Degree in English language, not English literature. Because of my 2.2 certificate, I have been discouraged from applying to any international universities.

Although with the certificate, I have worked in East Africa for few years. And, glory be to God Almighty, my employers were impressed by my performance, which outweighed the grade.

But coming onto this platform, especially this thread, I have been encouraged to give it a try. I have seen a lot of testimonies.

Therefore, dear brothers and sisters, I need your guidance regarding which of the US universities accept 2.2 certificates.

I need your advice on how to go about the application process: universities, documents and other requirements.

I'll be looking forward to getting your useful advice cum information.

Thanks for taking the time to read my message.

Be blessed.

I believe thats 3.27/5. Which university did you graduate from? Try prepare to take the TOEFL and ace it first? Also, plan to do the WES( World Education Service) to evaluate your transcripts to US equivalent GPA after that you can look at possible schools.

CGPA is 2.84, 8years work experience as a security equipment project engineer , no GRE score , no TOEFL/IELTS

I only applied with the documents I had and was given the admission

Your years of work experience is nice but if you are looking for funding you should take at least the GRE to make your profile decent for safe WES schools.

Please, is this accepted by NCDC and by the airline? Read somewhere that we are required to upload the results on their website.

Check list of private lab approved by NCDC online. Let me know if you didn't see them their. You can ask your airline if they accept it.
Good-luck UT Tyler baby!

I have been following quite a number of threads in preparation for my F1 visa interview, and I feel it’s only fair I share my experience so as to help someone else.

My visa interview took place in Lagos on the 22nd of July 2021 10:30am.

Visa Transcript -

VO - Good morning, can I have your documents
Me - I greeted him back and proceeded to hand him my i20 and intl passport.

VO - Why are you going to the US
me - I’m going for my Masters of Business Administration & Management at bla bla bla business school in Boston Massachusetts.

VO - Why did you choose this school.
Me - I chose this school because of its central focus on entrepreneurship as well as an exciting elective titled “Business Strategy in emerging Markets”. For some reason the VO guy nodded.

VO - Have you travelled out of Nigeria before?
Me - Yes

VO - Where have you travelled to?
Me - Australia

VO - I see you have a $30k scholarship, how do you intend to cover the rest of your tuition and living expenses?
Me - I have been awarded a student loan by a private company affiliated with the school (I proceeded to hand him a letter from the loan company (prodigy finance) + a sheet with the breakdown of the loan amount, interest rate and loan repayment terms)

VO - How long will it take to pay this money back?
Me - The maximum repayment term is 20years, however because the company uses an APR system, I intend to pay back much sooner to reduce the overall amount I’ll eventually have to pay back. (VO nodded for the second time)

VO - How do you plan to pay this money back?
Me - I have been offered a managerial position in my company (I proceeded to hand over my post-study employment letter from my employer)

VO - (flips through the letter to the salary breakdown section) This amount is your annual salary right?
Me - Yes it is

VO - Are you married?
Me - Yes I am

VO - Do you have any children?
Me - Yes I do. I have a one year old daughter

VO - Why aren’t you travelling with your family?
Me - My wife just started working at a new company less than 6months ago, and she isn’t entitled to an annual leave yet. My daughter is also very young and we have all the help we need in raising our daughter here in Nigeria, in the US we will have no such help. (VO nodded for the third time).

VO - (types fast and said nothing for what felt like 2 long minutes). I’ll be approving your visa, (handed me a white sheet of paper) you can pick your passport up at bla bla bla.

The whole process took less than 5minutes.

My advice to those going for their interview soon -

1. Read through as many visa transcripts on nairaland as you can find. I wasn’t asked any question that I wasn’t prepared for thanks to reading through a lot of transcripts.

2. F1 visa is classified as “non immigrant visa”. You need to show sufficient proof that you have no plans to immigrate permanently to the US. Saying it to the VO is not enough. There were alot of people who said the same “I will be returning to Nigeria after my studies” who got rejected. You need to show proof of ties to Nigeria.

3. Get your financial documents intact. For some reasons most people who had extended family members sponsoring them were denied (eg uncles, aunts, god father etc). You are better off being sponsored by parents or siblings. And they are so much more interested in the careers of your sponsors than just looking through their statement of account details. I didn’t notice anyone being asked for SOA, I certainly wasn’t asked as well (I think they have figured that some people come along with fake SOA).

4. Remain calm. Don’t be ruffled by other peoples interview, no two interviews are exactly the same. I personally tried my hardest not to focus on other people’s interview although for the most part it’s difficult not to hear what’s going on.

Wish you the best. Cheers.

Congrats

Thanks, I really appreciate your response.

Okay, so i graduated with Upper Credit (3.21) and used to be a Credit Portfolio Manager with graphics design on the side.

Try do a WES Evaluation of your Transcripsts and apply to schools that accepts WES. Read about WES( World Education Service) online to know about them.

Muleriders:

grin grin that Twoods guy?.

I almost committed suicide in 2018 when this dude quoted me and said "you are failure, just forget about American dream and re-enroll afresh in a Nigerian University to get a better grade", "what were you doing when your mates were making 2.1 and first class".

As God will have it, walspring came to my rescue for TOEFL and GRE 50% discount as well as sevis payment. Fairheart came through for mocks. He was calling me with his credit days to my interview. Lagosismyhome came through for motivation and mentorship.
To the glory of God and shame of Twoods, I will be graduating next week Friday July 30. With an estimated cgpa of 3.7/4.0.

Also got several honors including Beta Gamma Sigma which is the highest honor any business student can receive in the whole world.

Congratulations
