That's not what he did. He didn't ask the National Assembly to remove the controversial section and send it back to him for assent.
He simply said he would not sign the bill into law because of the section on direct primaries.
Remember he did same thing in 2018 when Saraki was Senate President.

After the NASS passed the then Electoral Act Amendment Bill and transmitted to him, Buhari declined assent and pointed to some certain clauses he disagreed with.

The senate quickly expunged those provisions and retransmitted to him but he again declined assent.

That’s what they should do now. Let’s see if he would decline assent a second time.

But should Buhari throw away the bath water with the baby? Why should he reject the entire bill because of one controversial clause? Why not ask the National Assembly to remove the controversial section of the bill so he could assent to the other good parts in order to improve the electoral process in our beloved country?
Isn’t that what he has done?

We should impression on the NASS to remove the controversial clause and re-transmit to the president let’s then see what he would do.

Until then, we are just making assumptions.

neither atiku nor any igboman is getting any ticket in PDP.
The 13govs of pdp have decided and sealed the fate of atiku, saraki, kwankaso in the party.

Atiku benefited from division of pdp govs on whom to support in 2019.

PDP govs re firmly in control and the decision makers of the party and they re united under one cause.
Which is PDP flagbearer and deputy must come from PDP govs forum
Out of 36 states and the FCT, there are only 13 governors in 13 states.

The remaining 24 is left for capture.

I’m not saying it would be an easy ride for Atiku but don’t write him off either.

An Igbo man flying APC presidential flag in 2023 is an existential imperative for the party.

But if it thinks otherwise, let them hand it to Tinubu and pair him with a Christian northerner or a Muslim northerner if they wish to dare.

We shall then meet at the polls.

It’s not even Igbos that will have to beg Tinubu to give up his ambition.

That would have to be done by APC high echelon if they want to win 2023 elections.

If they feel otherwise, let APC field Tinubu with a northern Christian as vice and let PDP field Atiku with somebody from SE/SS let’s meet at the ring.

The surest winning formula for APC in 2023 is to come SE with Yoruba support. That way, it would be guaranteed of votes from almost all the regions in the south added to its good standing in the north and whoever they would choose as vice.

Anything aside this, is death penalty for APC. If it zones its ticket to Southwest, only SW will vote APC from the south. The north won’t be sure because PDP candidate will be a northerner.

If it decides to retain ticket in the north, the Yoruba will be forced to cast a protest vote against the party for cheating Tinubu and other factors. The SS and SE won’t still vote for it. And it would be game over for them.

These are realistic projections and I would like to see your counter projections.

We were on course to have the best or near best Electoral Act until NASS scuttled it with that rubbish Direct Primaries gibberish.

I support the president for withholding assent to that nonsense.

People are claiming that the president withheld assent because of electronic transmission of result but the only way we can find out is for the NASS to quickly expunge that stupid Direct Primaries provision and re-transmit the bill to the president for assent.

Let’s see if he will still give excuses.

Until then, the president was right on this one.

I asked one northern guy who always praises umahi in a page on Facebook if he would vote for him as candidate, he avoided that question twice I asked him and on different threads
That’s why Igbos are being tactical.

If you present the north with a Yoruba and an Igbo man, the north would rather vote a Yoruba because they’ve been made to believe an Igbo man will sleet their throat if he becomes president.

So it’s either Igbos are the candidates of the two major parties or we vote a northerner with an Igbo VP.

What’s the possibility of an igbo man securing ticket especially in APC? It might affect them due to anti APC sentiments in the east
In 1999, PDP gave its ticket to a Yoruba man that wasn’t popular in Yoruba land nor was the party.

PDP lost in Yoruba land but won everywhere else to win the presidency.

APC still has the right sentiments in the north. If it can convince Tinubu to allow an Igbo man get the APC ticket which will guarantee Tinubu and Yoruba support, then Igbo votes would be secondary.

But do not forget that no matter the negative sentiments that the Igbos have for APC, many Igbos would have a rethink when an Igbo is the party’s flag bearer. That’s a given.
Politics › Anyim Pius Anyim: Are We In For A Shocker? by Penguin2(op): 7:38pm On Dec 28, 2021
I have no time for long epistle but to say something little about Anyim’s presidential ambition.

So when the news of his intensification of campaign hit Nairaland front page, a lot of reactions greeted it as expected; but one comment got me and it goes thus:-

“Anyim’s political journey has been a mystery. No one gives him a chance in the things he has achieved. No one believed he would become a senator but he became a senator. At the senate, no one gave him the chance of becoming the senate president but he got it. After the 2011 elections, no one remembered he was still alive but Jonathan made him the SGF.”(paraphrased).

Again, a Nairalander by the moniker oyatz who is actually a Tinubu supporter, has continued to make reference to a prophecy that I don’t know where he heard(lol) of how Anyim Pius is the next president of Nigeria. I know you don’t believe in prophecies. I have my doubts too.

So, all these things, coupled with his recent shrewd and stealth campaign added to the clamour for power to go to the Southeast, are we in for a shocker?

Let’s not forget that as a trained lawyer, a former Senate President with people praising his time as Senate President for helping bring peace to the senate by maintaining the right balance, and as former SGF with no corruption case to his name since 1999, Anyim Pius Anyim is eminently qualified for the post he’s gunning for.

I wonder why the media is not talking about him?

Your interest in the presidential election is limited to preventing Tinubu from becoming the president. This is a valid interest. . .for YOU

APC/Tinubu victory will affect some people negatively and benefit some people too.
Those who stand to be benefit will work for the Victory of their candidate/ party. At the end of the day, majority will carry the day.
