If they spent all that time siring children, what time did they have fighting the enemies?

Or did the objective assigned our soldiers change somewhere along the line? If that is the case, it will be hard to blame these soldiers. We cant be absolutely sure of the inner working of the man (IBB) who sent them to Liberia.

Who knows what would have happened if they had stayed a little while longer. Half their population would have been speaking Igbo or Hausa

^^^ Infact the scenario is not hard to imagine. Nigerian men in the Uk commonly keep 2 or more jobs and are not at home most times. With the kids away in nursery, a visiting white plumber who has an eye for chocolate arse can quietly pull this off causing this confusion and making experts question known precepts/scientific facts about race and genetics.

Anything short of requesting DNA test as a means of confirming paternity in a clearly dubious case like this amounts to a complete waste of time and bandwith.

The so-called expert in commenting without a DNA test failed to behave like an expert.

A few mths ago there was a well publicised case of an African-American woman who had a set of twins. One of them looked like the father and was confirmed by DNA to be so. The second one looked so much unlike the parents that it demanded DNA test to ascertain its paternity. As it turned out the father of the second twin was a completely different man and the woman owned up to her infidelity. They are still happily married.

I rest.

Siena:
If I was the guy, I would not opt for a DNA test.  Assuming he does, and it comes back positive, i.e, he's the biological father, what does he then tell his wife? That he doubted her fidelity? A DNA test could break even the most stable of marriages.

They also have 2 other kids between them, so they're not a "brand new" couple that don't understand each other.
Siena, I dont see how this guy is going to be at peace without a DNA. That silent voice will forever remain in the background irrespective of how much he tries to ignore it. The only way to get rid of it is a DNA test.

Mind you a positive result does not mean a dissolution of marriage or anything like that. If what I have seen of the guy is anything to go by, I think he can handle it. Well, I can.

Why isnt anybody talking about a DNA test. For me, absolutely no comment until a definitive DNA result affirms paternity. Nothing new for this world O. Nothing truly strange.

Dr Kitaun:
U are so correct, I shivered at the thought of posting here initially but I have overcome it . . .

Daboh happens to be a close family friend, my father is his personal Lawyer and has been so for decades now.

The name of the wife of OBJ that he dumped was Taiwo Obasanji-Martins, she later started a church or so . . .

Dr Daboh happens to be the Assistant National Auditor of PDP, so whatever is saying is what the PDP exco at the national level have agreed to do - JONATHAN GOODLUCK IS THE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE OF PDP, no point anybody disputing this !

as per the message and the messanger, how many of our politicians are ever aware of the existence of the word 'integrity' ?

the so many sins of Akingbola and Ibru at Oceanic and Intercontinental despite having been role models to a lot of gullible people because of their outward mien is still fresh on my mind . . .may God help us all !!!
You are a brave man urself acknowledging these relationships on this forum.

Daboh means well in mobilizing public sentiments against IBB but I am not so sure if he is right-on abt Jonathan. As far as I am concerned GJ is too feeble a character. We need a leader that has substance at this point in our nation's history.

We need someone gutsy enough to take on the biggest enemy of Nigeria and the Nigerian pple at the moment-the legislature. We have at the moment the most powerful and the most corrupt legislature in our nation's history. They have usurped executive powers and now get allocations unto themselves, thwarted the battle against corruption by strangulating FOI and money laundering laws, never-ending billion naira contract scandals etc etc. They are also actively seeding/propagating corruption wherever they go. As we speak they are abt to get their corrupt hands on the constitution.

The easiest solution would have been to have them all lined-up and shot so the country can move forward.  Unfortunately this can precipitate another civil war. Besides this is the 21st century not 1960. Pple might think you are a monster.

We need someone intelligent, strong and tactful enough to effectively manage this legislature-gone-beserk without resorting to violence. Without this our power problem cannot be solved. Rampant corruption in the bureaucracy will persist. Infrastructure will continue to decay etc.

The person need not be a northerner or southerner

Crime › Girl Stabs Man To Death Over Attempted ra.pe by Pennywise(op): 10:38am On Jul 17, 2010
A 23-year-old lady, Rachael Gbadamosi, is in police custody for allegedly stabbing a man, 30-year-old Christian Egwuchukwu, to death over the victim's alleged attempt to despoil her.

The incident happened at No. 20, Kareem Babatunde Street, Papa Asafe, Agege, on July 11. While many Lagosians were watching the FIFA World Cup final match between Spain and Holland, the alleged suspect and the victim were fighting each other in their one-room apartment. In the process, Miss Gbadamosi allegedly stabbed Mr. Egwuchukwu in the neck.

According to the police, Mr. Egwuchukwu lost a lot of blood and was confirmed dead at a private hospital the following day.

Miss Gbadamosi and the late Mr. Egwuchukwu were living with Miss Gbadamosi's cousin in the one-room apartment. She said the victim had attempted to despoil her on several occasions, but her stiff resistance made him even angrier. On that fateful day, he was determined to carry out his threat of despoiling her, before he died from the stab wound on his neck. She said she acted in self defence.

Self defence

"I live with my cousin at Agege in a room and in May, my cousin brought his friend, Christian, to come and stay with us. My cousin, Abel, works at Victoria Island, and he is hardly around. Since Christian moved in, he had tried to sleep with me, but I always refused him. Last Saturday was the fourth time he attempted to do it, but I told him he will not succeed and he became very angry. There was a day I was sleeping but my brother (cousin) was not around, and Christians tried to despoil me."

Miss Gbadamosi said she informed her cousin and her mother about the victim's threats, but he did not change. "When his pressure became too much, I told my mother, who live in Edo State, and also my cousin; my cousin even sent him away, but Christian begged him that he will not try me again. After a while, he stopped and I thought he had truly changed. But that Saturday, he came home and started making trouble. I just ignored him, but he was bent on quarrelling with me.

"He threw my clothes and my brother's clothes, which I kept on the bed, onto the floor, dragged me to the bed, and tore my night gown. He was holding tight to my neck, as if he wanted to strangle me. I tried to resist him, and quickly ran to the door, but there was no light. I thought of what to do to protect myself and that was how I took the table knife on the shelve and stabbed him on the hand. He took the knife, and stabbed me in the hand, but unknowingly I stabbed him on the neck. God knows, I did not intend to kill him," she narrated. The police spokesperson, Frank Mba, said Mr. Egwuchukwu bled to death as a result of the injury on his neck.

"He was rushed to the hospital, but he had already lost a lot of blood, because nobody was around to take him to the hospital. People should be careful how they expose their female children to strangers. If first aid was given to this victim, probably he would not have died. People should not take the laws into their hands, as they can report all cases of assault and harassment to the police, and the necessary action will be taken. The case has been transferred to the Homicide Department at Panti for a discreet investigation," Mr. Mba said.

A similar incident happened in May when a 26-year-old lady, Ifunnaya Marcus, allegedly stabbed her boy friend, Princewill, to death over a minor quarrel.

Miss Marcus, who also used a knife on her boyfriend, said the victim had battered and beaten her on several occasions. A group of female lawyers from Project Alert, a non-profit organisation in Lagos, rose in defence of Miss Marcus, saying that her action was triggered by the man she loved, who unfortunately turned her into a punching bag.
http://234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Next/Home/5594579-146/story.csp

I think an innocent man has just been murdered. The despoil story? A convenient excuse that wont hold in court. The story appears to indicate they were passing the murder weapon (knife) back and forth until she decided to stab him in the neck. Did anybody hear this 23yr old cry for help?

A look into her background will reveal a mean-spirited and calculating young woman. Now she has sought refuge in her mother and cousin who will no doubt attempt to collaborate her fiction. The victim's family should stand up to make sure justice is done.

i beg to disagree. Mainstream capitalism has been proved fundamentally flawed as we saw in the recent world-wide depression. Its in the nature of man to be greedy and when it goes unchecked it can be deadly. I have always been a believer in the fact that the government should be a stakeholder or participant in certain sectors such as power generation and distribution, petroleum, transport as well as aviation (in a scenario where there is genuine leadership of course).

Where you leave it to private hands you end up it inbridled profiteering and monopolies like our cement industry as well as salt, sugar and so on.
I agree with you. But fundamentally this is not a battle b/w capitalism and socialism. P'wise hasnt said this coy cannot build a biz district. What I am saying is that taking all existing issues into consideration the location is ill-advised.

Now regarding the more technical aspects and pros and cons of capitalism I am sure you stand to benefit more from Paddy Lo.

This is noting but your gutless and vision lacking personal opinion and as shallow as it sounds, you are of course entitled to it.

The job of any responsible government is to continuously seek job creating investment opportunities for the citizenry to better the lives of the people they swore oaths to look after and broaden the tax base and generate more funds for the government to pursue it's other obligations like  building schools, hospital, roads, paying the civil service and maintaining existing infrastructures.

I guess in your mind the state should have said, instead of investing your money,  instead of developing our coast line, instead of building a world class city, instead of creating the main financial, entertainment and leisure hub in Africa, instead of setting up the best motorboat club and marine entertainment in Africa, instead of creating hundreds of thousands of jobs for Lagosians, why don't you go do all that in some bush in Ikorodu?

Obviously, the developers, the contractors, engineers and all the other folks involved have met the state's safety and environmental requirements, videos and other documented facts and simulations about the project is all over the place, take sometime out to read and watch before yahhking away as if you really know what you're talking about.

wow!, the battle between free capitalist and tread-carefully socialist.
Both parties mean well, just differ in your core interest.
The capitalist are right when they say other developers can and are free to look inwards mainland Lagos and carve out a niche for themselves. I think the onus lie with the socialist to look for such and make their case with such developer(s). Why hang a man when he sees and pursues a well publicize risk with his fortune? Perhaps the reward for his risk are even greater?
If I have learn't anything from the sub prime it is that some measure of control/regulation (institutional) must be in place to prevent any economic system of practise from a complete meltdown. Socialism has its benefits so too does Capitalism. Both parties should harness the advantages from their system with the other and a winning solution will emerge.
Sorry but I think you got it wrong. This has nothing to do with socio-political ideology but everything to do with common sense. My thinking always is what you will describe as mainstream capitalist but I am 100% against this idea b/c it is plain dumb. Socialism is an aberration that has been proven so by history.

@ Pennywise

You are being disingenuous
And you are being rude.

debosky:
Regarding your comments on the risks:

Land doesn't need to be reclaimed before being subject to dangerous flooding so that is a moot point. Besides, sea defences are being built to protect the reclaimed land. That things 'may' fail cannot be a cogent reason for stopping a project. The risks must be understood and adequate mitigations put in place. Again, this goes down to the quality of the inputs into the project - with the Dutch and Danish experiences applied to the designs, I believe the risks of the above happening will be sufficiently mitigated.

That might be so, but there is no requirement to build on 'solid' land before embarking on reclamation if so desired. Again, the vision of the company must be considered in any assessment of why it chooses to take a reclamation option over building on 'solid' land.
At the end of the day it comes down to a coy's choices, vision (that I consider warped in the face of available options) and its resources. There are precedents in history where extremely wealthy corporations have embarked on needlessly risky even crazy undertakings in developed climes. But taking on the atlantic Ocean in an impoverished third world neighborhood because you have a few borrowed dollars is not a well 'mitigated' risk as far as I am concerned.

A responsible govt owes a duty to its citizens to ensure that needless, flamboyant and potentially dangerous undertakings like this are discouraged through punitive taxes.

The future of Lagos business district may yet lie in the forests of Ikorodu and not even in the atlantic. Even the dutch will tell you that taking on the Ocean is not an easy undertaking. Whether in reclamations or rigs lives are lost frequently in construction and when the Ocean says its payback time.

You could also be the first person to be crushed to death if a nearby skyscraper you were walking past collapses. Does that mean skyscrapers shouldn't be built? The people handling the project, are they amatures? Is this their first foray into a project of this type? So what are you talking about? Why don't we as well ban anything that involves risk while we are at it? Was the research done before the project started? Were feasibility studies carried out? If so then what really is the issue here if it is not a case of complaining for the sake of it? People first cried "o you are wasting our money" and such were informed it was actually the private sector footing the bill. Now it is fear of risk that the project which is being undertaken by a specialist company might fail? Why don't we also abandon ideas of having a railway system as well since you might be the first to die if the train derails?
I have no problem standing by a skyscrapper built on solid ground. I prefer this to one built on reclaimed soil whether by dutch engr or not.

What we are talking abt is the necessity. A new biz district doesnt have to be at VI. Lagos still has tens of kms of land that can be dev for that purpose.

This is an ego trip by the CEO of a coy that feels it has arrived. We are simply asking him to be realistic and spend his shareholder's money wisely.

That you can build an alternative doesn't equate with an assertion that the risks and costs aren't justified.

Regarding ROI, I would believe the originators/backers would have carried out their costings beforehand and consider it a good enough investment for them. To simply say  that they could make much higher ROI is debatable - where are the calculations and figures to justify this?

Corporate bodies have expressed frustration at the shortage of prime land for development in V/I and environs. There isn't much of a desire to move to some distant new centre of commerce, so something in close proximity is desired. As that need is currently in existence, backed with an ability to meet the need (i.e. the corporate bodies can pay for this prime real estate), the project can claim to be justified.

From a risk perspective, if experts from the Netherlands (one of the greatest examples of land reclamation worldwide) have been deeply involved in the development, I would consider the risks well managed.

Besides, you can always claim there will be better investments - but those kinds of developments may not be suited to this particular developer's capabilities or their business model/vision. The parent company of the firm involved in the current development has been at the forefront of real estate developments involving reclaimed land, so it is not surprising to see them taking the next logical step as it were.

If there truly is an opportunity to make much higher returns in other areas, then let other developers come in as well and develop the other areas. As far as I'm aware, the government has not said that other developers would be denied the opportunity to embark on projects elsewhere in Lagos because of Eko Atlantic.
I refered u to my response in respect of risk inherent to a project of this magnitude (nothing to do with business options), apparently you did not read.

Excerpt
We are not talking abt reclaiming marshland or swampy areas. You are taking on the atlantic ocean. Reclamation may fail. Your artificial coastline may collapse leading to dangerous flooding. Kms of built up areas and inhabitants can be under water in minutes.

The metropolis may be crowded but there are still large hundreds of km sq of solid land within Lagos state.
The dutch are known worldwide for their feats in projects like this owing to decades if not centuries of experience in their  own enviroment. But note that even for them, the struggle is a continous one. They have the men, the tools and the equipment that they keep modifying for the purpose. If the artificial shoreline that will be created is breached, before you bring in any dutch engr, a thousand Nigerians are dead. You can forget about the property loss.

We must not fail to see this project for what it is. An ego trip of a company that thinks it has arrived. When you take on an ocean the rules are changed. You can forget about whatever you have been doing. If lives are lost needlessly both the company and the acquiescing Lagos govt should be sued for their last kobo. You get nothing from the govt as usual but the coy will pay. A series of litigations like this is all it needs to smoke it out of 'its island'.

What most peeps who are opposed to this project are saying is that if this pvt company have a second look at what they are abt to embark on, they will find that they stand to make a much higher ROI if they commit such collossal funds to develop already available land. There are hectares and hectares of land waiting to be developed. They should not think 'inside the box'. You can build an alterntive business district away from Ikoyi and VI that will be just as respected without inherent risks involved in developing a project of this magnitude.
