Benjax:You were poorly informed by whoever told you that garbage. To start with, I am a medical student and not a dental student so I will be unbiased and tell you some gospel truth. 1. Graduate of Medicine and Surgery face more stiffer competition for internship placement compare to their dental counterpart. You will never here of any case of a dental graduate searching for where to do house job unlike the numerous cases of such recorded by mbbs graduates. 2. Dental Doctors are scarce compare to medical doctors. For every 30 Dental students, their are at least 120 medical students. They are highly sought after because of their dwindled population 3. MBBS and BDS are both treated as the same on the same salary scale. For the record, the only different between MBBS and BDS is that due to the complexity of the maxillio , head and neck region, a Medical student have to specialize early during undergraduate studies to become a dental doctor while an MBBS holder still has to go for a 3-7 years residency to specialize in whatever field of interest. (specialist are dentist, neurologist, gynecologist etc.) A BDS holder is a surgeon while an MBBS holder is a physician. (physician are those boring doctors that sit all days in an office just attending to patients). Mind you, the only aspect we medic are more inform than dentist is in the area of obstetric and gynecology, and physciatric while they are more vast in the head and neck region. Go for BDS if you love it and don't be discouraged by ignorant people who don't even know what is called a CARDAVA. You will even here some ignoramus say, dentistry is all about pulling teeth. If not for the fact I would like to specialize in cardiothoracic surgery or plastic surgery, I personally would have opted for BDS. Even many people have discouraged me ON studying MBBS. They said many doctors are beggars, one of them even told me he knows a doctor collecting not more than #50, 000. I was told medicine is no longer lucrative like in the days of 80s and 70s. If I had listen to the nonsense and jargon people told me, I would have just accept Agric in good fate. I just see them as ignorant and blind haters. The fact is Nigerians love to display their ignorance openly. |
Eben331:Go for Explicit. Lamlad biology is not that good. Only Lamlad physics and chemistry is far better than even some textbook. |
Ibadandentist:You just wish to graduate before matriculating. I am not understanding who you are fighting or what you are fighting for. |
Eben331:Shade Everything, nothing like negative marking. I can tell you this. Last year, after my Putme, I remembered at least 14 questions I got wrong which was confirmed by my textbook. I was still able to score 80%. It would have been lower than that if there was negative marking. |
To mbbs aspirants About 10000+ always choose UI for medicine and surgery, in which over 5000+ will fail jamb/score a low mark in jamb. You still have not fewer than 500+ that scored 290+ in utme. Remember, you can't guess your way to score 290. You must be brilliant. UI has a capacity of 120 for mbbs admission via utme. The implication of this is that many candidates with good mark will still be disappointed. This is the time to choose which category you want to belong to. |
Damayogenius18:True. I wish everybody on nairaland well but not everybody on nairaland will pass Putme. Bitter but true Even that said, not everybody that pass Putme will be admitted. And not everybody that is admitted will be gracious to study their dream course just because they couldn't meet the cut. MBBS, BDS, llb, economics, vet, engr aspirants are the top victim of this. Many aspirants here will still scream and fight for change of course after cutoff mark is released. That course people see as a lazy man course will be more competitive and sought after than medicine and surgery during Change of course. You will see law aspirants who would have fought anyone that advise them to study History fight for this same history just because of 1 mark shot of the cutoff for law. Its a matter of survival of the fittest/finest. I don't want to sweet mouth people alone and make it look the battle ahead is a bed of rose. This is the time to sacrifice the next three-four months for intensive study. Pay the price, burn the mid-night candle if you can, sacrifice the time you spend on social media and watch yourself triumph. Remember the books you are reading is the same books everybody is reading, it now down to your understanding and your smartness. I wish every nairalander best of luck. |

MrEgghead:Looooolz, that is true anyway. Just like in 2014, a medical student of OAU that I so much respected (You know those few people with reputable and popular monikers) just came on nairaland to claim is little bro scored 94% in UI putme(mbbs). We all believed, and celebrated the young guru. I was personally flabbergasted and mesmerized because I manage to score 76%. But the whole lie busted when UI claim the highest Putme score that year was 90%. When he was confronted, his reply was Na so we see am |
azora: azora: azora:What went wrong, I thought u made it. |
Aybalance:Lolz |
Rursh:Rursh baba, I hail thee. |
dannyboii1:Haaaaaaahhaaaaaaaa. You will ware out your brain and waste your time cramming all the words in the dictionary. UI synonym and antonyms questions are always very simple. They are not big Grammars. You can refer to UI practice question for sample. E.g pessimistic, tyrant, optimistic, wade, avalanche, unprecedented etc. These are samples of the simple words they asked in the past Putme. Just practice with your jamb series adequately, and try to learn new words. Note- No candidates can beat their chest for 100% mark in synonyms and antonyms. |
Greatomotoy:UI doesn't have the capacity to accommodate all students. In addition, accommodations is optional. |
Hardebaryor:Probably, I didn't communicate it appropriately or you misunderstood me. As far as I know, questions can come out of every and any angle. However, you need to read smart; that is, you need to study how UI structure there Putme questions, and you won't waste time to read frevolent details especially in English and biology . Example, you would be wasting your time if you prepare for UI Putme with the same dept you would used if you were to prepare for OAU Putme. You might not even open a dictionary while preparing for UI's Use of English, but you dare not try that with OAU's The bottom line is that you should learn to work smart and not work hard. Learn me take it too football, take for example if Chelsea is to play derby County, they can attack and keep running towards opponent like headless chicken, but with Barcelona, they have to change tactics, and sit quietly in defence and only counter attack if need be. |
Eben331:English is very simple. In fact, the most easy subject after biology. You should not spend more than 13-15minutes on English. The mistake is that must aspirant are always going with the mentality of reading comprehension as if they are meditating on the book of Romans in the Bible. You need to train yourself prior to Putme, you must learn to read through a passage no matter how voluminous it is, giving yourself maximum time of 2 minutes, and at the same time sucking out milk, honey and tangible points out of the passage. Believe me, it is not that simple and easy, it will be impossible at first, that is why you have all the time now to train yourself ahead. Get jamb series, there are loads of comprehension passage there. Give yourself stringent and honest rule, don't bend and be consistent. Keep doing that and you will discover your cerebrum already create a new neuron pathway in your white matter to accommodate that process. No matter how difficult a task is, consistency compel your brain to create a new link to accommodate that process so that you can perform it with ease. That is how the brain learn skills like driving, typing with Mavis beacon, etc. |
centurionpapa:Ya, I was admitted last year for mbbs. Utme 322 putme80%. You see, you must even score higher than me because you now have the edge of experience. As for the calculations, I also fell on that stumbling block in 2015. I couldn't answer simple ideal gas equation just because it will take at least 8 minutes without calculator. This was my solution I begin to learn strategy to divide and multiply large numbers without calculator. It wasn't easy but I discover my own way. You need to train yourself and discover personal tricks(speed and accuracy) . I plan teaching people my trick here but I have forgotten those little tricks(hunger and failure open up my brain back then) . I even went as far as solving any question on PH without calculator. Brother, those you are competing with are also flesh and blood. If you can't do it, they too can't do it. That was the mindset I had then. As for the question to start with, I mostly start with biology to gain time, confidence. You could solve all biology under 10 minutes and at the same time help comporting yourself. However, last year, I started with physics because we were asked to turn our paper downward, I have answered all physics question(about 13) at the last page in my head even before we started. Just try to avoid mistakes, if you couldn't solve a question because of time, must candidates also won't solve it, it now boils down to the best gambler. |
I have done University of Ibadan post utme 3 times aspiring for mbbs, and I can tell you some facts about it. My scores back then were 76%, 70%, 80% in 2014, 2015 and 2017 respectively. There are some facts you need to know about University of Ibadan Putme. 1. If could have the brain to score 200 in utme, you could score 80%+ in putme. I personally saw this in 2014 and it wasn't to my favour. I scored 248 and 76% in utme and Putme respectively, but I saw someone with 201 in utme surprisingly scored 82%. Unfortunately, many candidates aspiring for mbbs with low utme score pull a strong come back in putme. Please don't let your 300+ utme score make you complacence. I have a friend, who back then scored 282, but his mark was wasted because he scored 66% in Putme. Back then 300 wasn't flying around under DIBU. 2. University of Ibadan Putme is very simple but time consuming . During our time, we met something like calculate bla bla bla, angle of projection = 27°c. You will come across calculations were the best student will spend 6 minutes on a physics question. I will give you an example later. I still have it with me. You need to start training yourself on speed. I was a victim of speed in 2015. You could see it from my score. 3. University of Ibadan Putme is very simple but highly technical, you need to be smart. You will meet questions like The death of Goliath was actually from A. David B. Stone C. God D. Negligence of Goliath. You need to be smart, you will meet a lot of this especially in biology. 4. Good news to mbbs aspirants, University of Ibadan Putme repeat a lot of past questions . I can't tell for other subject but I noticed biology was majorly jamb past questions repeated word for word, chemistry is was a mixture of utme and Putme past question, English as a good quantity of past questions but physics was a hell, several complicated calculation with decimals without calculator , be careful and prepare well. 5. University of Ibadan lecturers cannot do without setting questions from certain textbooks I can't tell you this enough, get Lamlad for physics in addition to either( P. N OKEKE or New school physics). Get Lamlad for Chemistry with ababio. Get Invisible teacher of jamb Use of English by dele ashade. Get all jamb series. If you can do this, you are home and dry. Read your best biology textbook. In 2017, UI lifted a question word for word from college physics You can score 25/25 in biology or 15/25 If you are too eager because the questions are too simple, you may fall on the stumbling block UI lay down to checkmate I TOO KNOW. Instead of scoring 90%, you might score 75%. I should have scored 86% in 2014, but I TOO KNOW killed me so I missed simple questions. Lastly don't ignore group study online. I learnt a lot back then, and there were questions I couldn't have solve normally during Putme but someone would have posted same question word for word during online group study, I just pick answers without wasting time. Please, if there is anyone who could take the pain and compile past questions from previous UI admission thread from 2012, please do and share to others. I did it back the and I met several repeated questions. In fact, in 2017, out of the 100 questions in putme, I have met and solve not fewer than 60 questions but I couldn't remember were I met some of this questions. Goodluck to Everyone. If I haven't answer your question, please let me know. Thank you. |
Gud afternoon. Hope preparation is on full gear. I got a word for you guys coming now. |
Dellybanky:I wished I could reply u now @ bolded. But I promise to do so on Saturday. I will tell u how someone in 2014 scored 90 in Putme but 248 in utme. Get lamlad, new school and invisible teacher. Will explain later. For now exhaust whatever you have. |
Damayogenius18:Brother, I will definitely write an epistle on that on Saturday. I am currently in a village where service is poor. |
IamGoke:Newly admitted medicine and surgery student |
IamGoke:Newly admitted medicine and surgery student |
Litmus07:Very easy, just read if textbook until nothing left to know. Then scoring 95+ will be a walk in the park. |
Bobola07:Tank u Doc. |
Papi112:Boss. I had a phone calibration issue, so I was compelled to view threads only and ignore everything that has to do with punching a phone keyboard. |
tonyjoe222:pre degree program- No part time degree program - Yes Diploma - Yes |
Stepheen:cook in ur room. ![]() learnt it frm Mbbs students dat hosted me |
Isiss , bobola07 et al, well done o.. Una dey form surgeon . .... Let me also hype my course. We medic are not mere boring physician prescribing drugs as some people sees us, we also can be a practising surgeon. V read through previous post. Some people still need orientation, else they might b an unhappy dentist. . If I were in dentistry, I will root for this aspect of dentistry- maxillofacial surgery..... |
dolapo74:check okeke. You will understand better. |
Rachealoduah:Pls you need lamlad. You will be flabbergasted at the volume of questions and topics you don't know. Add to those textbooks lamlad physics and chemistry. Invisible teacher( of jamb use of English) by dele ashade. ( If you can lay your hands on explicit biology or modern biology, pls add it to essential, but if not, eat your essential hook , line and sinker). With this, you are good to go. for 360+. |
itzwell:It is usually believe that u should use your wassce result within 5 years of obtaining it , but I am yet to come across any official document supporting or against the claim. Also, I am yet to hear about any case of reject because of a stale wassce result. |
Rachealoduah:To start with, I knew I would score very high. I was even optimistic of 340+ after clicking submit. I have once scored 188 in jamb xo u can score higher than me. It wasn't a walk in the park. I will tell you the better truth, I read like a mad man. 15 hrs reading, marathon reading, aside eating and sleeping, the only thing I do is reading. You will think you have read adequately until you consult different materials. One secret about reading is most student spend too much time on the wrong textbook,I didnt know this on time. I keep reading but the materials are not good enough. I then decide to have at least two textbooks for a subject. For example- an average student needs ababio + lamlad+ loads of past questions for chemistry while a good student can go with essential chemistry only. If you want to score very high, do this three things 1. GET RICH MATERIALS- Don't just buy any book. I can recommend the best combinations of textbooks if you want. Invest in past questions. Dont rely on jamb past questions only. 2. HAVE A HEART OF A CHAMPION- Scoring 35,38, 40 out of 50 is just too poor. Go for the killer score 48/50 49/50. Don't be satisfy with average. Look for a way to right your wrong answers. 3. PASSION- This is the major factor that helped me. Passion made me spend money on books and past questions. Passion made me read for 14 hrs 16 hrs with just 5-10 minutes break without getting bored. Passion made me, who could not solve more than 15/50 in physics past questions score 93/100 in utme physics. Back then , I don't understand what I read, they seems difficult, I couldnt answer several questions , I forget a lot of things but I kept pressing on my own until I hit the fountain of water. I wasn't discourage. I didn't give in I hope this help a bit. |
