Dis Guy: If you are an international student (outside of the EU), you have the option of studying for either three or four years. If you decide to study on a four year degree, you will be able to undertake a placement. This means you will be working in a graduate level position for one year providing you with the opportunity to gain valuable commercial experience and to earn a salary. The placement year takes place in the third year of a four year degree. Although not compulsory for non-EU students you are positively encouraged to undertake the placement because of the additional experience and skills you are able to gain.

We also run an exchange programme which provides international students at our partner institutions the opportunity to study at Aston Business School.

Our International Office staff regularly visit a number of countries to participate in Higher Education exhibitions and college visits, giving you the chance to talk to someone in person.

Aston
Thanks Boss... I hope to extend my visa when necessary. Spoke with our international office and they confirmed it but just that I was getting a lil bit concerned about the term time.

My able compatriots, please I am looking into getting a work placement opportunity after my 2nd yr of study and wondering if anyone has an idea if my chances will be affected by my visa status. Does one regars the work placement period term time, as the visa guidelines call it. Thank you all and waiting on some candid opinion.

CaroTone: I was kinda nervous when we are to meet. When he finally came, I can't believe I was standing in front of the cutest and handsome guy ever and he too was amaze when he saw me because I used my back in d days WASSCE passport as my dp, and I'm kind of a lil funny person who does funny things at times. We chatted and exchange greetings. A connection was form immediately and we start dating. we dated for 7 months I had to let him go cos he is the most boring person ever. I can't be wit a boring person, it's like a bondage to me. being a Aries lady, I love my social and fun life.
And what was his star.huh

adaobi123: Use a uk line. Using mtn will cost money. You could use lines like EE (T Mobile and orange) or three - 3. I think it costs about £5 a month for bbm.
EE is the best... £20 for 6 months

Hilarious yet demoralising post y'all got here, incase of the first timers reading these...

The best blind date u can pray for in a life time. Added here on fb with one funny comment and we hooked up, taliing on fone and so on. Super angelic voice, fwesh UK accent and was the type I will like create memories with. Love the way she always laffed as u can neva talk to her and still b in ur bad mood. we finally decided to meet, meaning I have to visit her first as the man here. Got to the train station she asked me to stop and after a couple of delay frm her syd, she showed up. Wasnt aspecting anything less than xtra ordinary and I got it.
She was a princess, the sun dey learn work where she dey. Mehn, the babe know how to carry herself. That ended as the first date and the second date, she visited... Ultimately fell in love with her and we working toward a permanent commitment, though its gonna b a long distant one. I swear, I wouldnt mind getting married to her soon...

While I don't really know how to go about buying this gadgets in the UK,I can volunteer some sites. I've checked out e.g. clove.co.uk,amazon, ebay (please be careful to transact biz with ONLY those who have high ratings on this site until you understand how their process works),Argos, phones4U,carphonewarehouse, pcworld, laptopdirect etc
As you will see it is FAR cheaper to purchase gadgets like PC's and phones in Nigeria than the UK only that UK offers more ease and variety
Note that phones in UK as in many developed nations comes with contracts or are carrier locked unlike Nigeria which is typically unlocked and carrier free
Also from the little calculations I've done, you pay a VAT of about 20% on this items, though purchasing here in Naija will increaae your luggage weight
Please do your research well to make the best choices before leaving Naija wink cheesy wink

fg17: Please I would want some advice on this: Which is better, buying gadgets like laptop and android/iphones here in naija or buying them in Uk.
If in Uk, how can one go about it. Thanks
I think buying gadget frm any side has its advantage. 9ja is cheaper on the long run but you feel more secure when you do that in the UK whc is expensive. In my opinion, buy your phone ib 9ja and maybe get a sim only contract line at a cheap price, though mostly for UK calls only and not international calls. One big advantage of buying gadgeta here is the insurance u get with it but the 9ja ones do not have such and the fate of your gadgets are left in your hands, incase of theft, damage or loss.
I will say dont miss buying your Laptop here in the UK though very expensive compared to 9ja. We all know how funny laptops can get at times.

ochukoccna: I use glasses and am thinking of seeing an Ophthalmologist MD to have a comprehensive look at my eyes when my boots are on UK soil
Way I figure, better facilities and a more accurate diagnosis awaits me there than here [remember the iconoclastic Gani's wrong diagnosis here]
Even thinking of doing corrective laser surgery rather than collecting glasses/spectacles if the cost isn't exorbitant
Can our UK brethren please enlighten more on Specsavers and Optical Express which I came across during my cyberspace journeys?

Also can you help breakdown how our health needs [students] are taken care of over there?
Do you register with the NHS, their general hospital or what?
Please teach us out of Naija freshies grin grin

Also Justwise and those already in the system is an NUS extra card a benefit?
Please enlighten us
Thanks
Anyway, I think Specsavers is better. They offer great service according to the people who have visited. Have not heard much bout Optical Express though...
And every person getting into the Uk is expected to register wit a NHS GP as to avoid disappointments from appointments and its free. Just a few blood and sex*ual health test will do. Your school will also advice you on that. After about a week or so, a letter will be sent to you indicating your status, your GP and how to contact them in the case of emergency...

fiscalcliff: I'm quite pleased I asked this question
Without it never would have learnt about cash backs
But Pete, the cashback scheme looks cool
I presume it stopped working for you because of the mail GTBank sent you on your yearly withdrawal limit
Never knew one existed,if I may ask, how much is GT's yearly withdrawal limit undecided
Also would you care to share how you restructured your operations cool cool
From the email, it says 40,000 dollar. I used my Mastercard to sort out my tuition and all other stuffs, thats why I reached my limit really quick. Cashbacks are really cool as they can help you dodge the charges frm 9ja banks.
My mode of operation was not different from any other person frm this group as we learned how to manage finances togeda.

honey86: Whao, as for me, I took enough money that would cover my expenses for like a month. I opened an account and have them transfer the rest of my money. Subsequent funds were logged into my GTbank account.
Sure. GTBank even sent me an email stating dat I yave exhausted my yearly withdrawal limit and I should switch to a Domicillary acc. But I dont like D9micillary acc cos of so much charges associated wit it and i will nt even b coming back to d country any tym soon. I knw dis happened cos i used it to pay my tuition fees and all other fees...

honey86: I shop with my GTbank naira master card here, And when I need cash I do a cash back. Though I also opened a Barclays acct.
That was my strategy when I arrived but it got to a point when it stopped working for cashbacks. I had to restructure my mode of operation....

fiscalcliff: @ lakehay, spikes etal ,how do you handle money issues?
Your sponsor wires you from Naija or you use your Naija bank issued ATM e.g. GTBank MasterCard?
I'm thinking of using mine over there or better still opening a domiciliary account here and getting a dollar or pound denominated debit card (because of the 1000 naira withdrawal charge per transaction).
Are cards like Fidelity Bank issued Visa Cards also accepted?
From my experience, u better dont rely on any of those Naija issued cards, including the domiciliary account cards. Firstly, the normal naira mastercard has yearly withdrawal limit and the dorm acc has lots of exorbitant monthly charges, wen used or not. Unless, u will not rely on the naira mastercard as d main source of finance here, mayb withdrawing in bulk and depositing it in ur UK acc.
U may nt worry so much, as it may also depend on ur duration of stay here.....

Cultured: Well , I would rather go with the postulation that " when preparation meet with opportunity success occur " , so I don't believe in luck rather I believe in " INNOVATION " . Innovation is that secret non pronounced word you see around every success , in the layman's world it is termed smartness- This justify the postulation " hard work is good but it's smart work that pays well " . My advice to the religious fanatics , it is about time to stop waiting for miracle that will never come ; embrace innovation and I bet you , the sky will become your stepping stone for success. If you can not innovate; imitate .
