"WORDS ON MARBLE"

In all my years in Dubai it never rain more than 3times per annum but it has been pouring since the beginning of this month on daily basis.

Some will term it climate change while others will claim its technology.

Well all I have to say is as we are securing our STOCKS, BONDS, DERIVATIVES, TREASURY BILL, FOREX, PROPERTIES and other earthly treasures we shouldn't forget to secure the most important ONE which happens to be our "SOUL"

Like I said earlier personally I stop hoarding USD when it initially crossed N480 since I earn it on monthly basis after all this was a stuff we sent @ the rate of N165 less than 3yrs ago.

That been said this kneel jerk approach will boomerang and send USD above N600 if their no total float.

The Naira plunged to N520 smileyagainst the U.S. dollar at the parallel market on Monday, after the CBN announced its readiness to sell dollar at N375 for school fees payment and personal travel allowance on Friday.

The Naira which had closed at N516 to a dollar on Friday, following a record low of N510 on Thursday remained weak despite the rising oil prices and national foreign reserves.

A Reuters report, attributed the fall in Naira value to retail currency trader’s reservation on the new forex policy as they tried to price in its possible impact on the market current rate and commercial banks approach to the announced policy.

FOOD 4 THOUGHT.

http://www.besthealthmag.ca/best-eats/nutrition/15-health-benefits-of-eating-apples/

What makes apples so great?

In 2004, USDA scientists investigated over 100 foods to measure their antioxidant concentration per serving size. Two apples’Red Delicious and Granny Smith’ranked 12th and 13th respectively. Antioxidants are disease-fighting compounds. Scientists believe these compounds help prevent and repair oxidation damage that happens during normal cell activity. Apples are also full of a fibre called pectin – a medium-sized apple contains about 4 grams of fibre. Pectin is classed as a soluble, fermentable and viscous fibre, a combination that gives it a huge list of health benefits.

1. Get whiter, healthier teeth

An apple won’t replace your toothbrush, but biting and chewing an apple stimulates the production of saliva in your mouth, reducing tooth decay by lowering the levels of bacteria.

2. Avoid Alzheimer’s

A new study performed on mice shows that drinking apple juice could keep Alzheimer’s away and fight the effects of aging on the brain. Mice in the study that were fed an apple-enhanced diet showed higher levels of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine and did better in maze tests than those on a regular diet.

3. Protect against Parkinson’s

Research has shown that people who eat fruits and other high-fibre foods gain a certain amount of protection against Parkinson’s, a disease characterized by a breakdown of the brain’s dopamine-producing nerve cells. Scientists have linked this to the free radical-fighting power of the antioxidants contained therein.

4. Curb all sorts of cancers

Scientists from the American Association for Cancer Research, among others, agree that the consumption of flavonol-rich apples could help reduce your risk of developing pancreatic cancer by up to 23 per cent. Researchers at Cornell University have identified several compounds – triterpenoids – in apple peel that have potent anti-growth activities against cancer cells in the liver, colon and breast. Their earlier research found that extracts from whole apples can reduce the number and size of mammary tumours in rats. Meanwhile, the National Cancer Institute in the U.S. has recommended a high fibre intake to reduce the risk of colorectal cancer.

5. Decrease your risk of diabetes

Women who eat at least one apple a day are 28 percent less likely to develop type 2 diabetes than those who don’t eat apples. Apples are loaded with soluble fibre, the key to blunting blood sugar swings.

6. Reduce cholesterol

The soluble fibre found in apples binds with fats in the intestine, which translates into lower cholesterol levels and a healthier you.

7. Get a healthier heart

An extensive body of research has linked high soluble fibre intake with a slower buildup of cholesterol-rich plaque in your arteries. The phenolic compound found in apple skins also prevents the cholesterol that gets into your system from solidifying on your artery walls. When plaque builds inside your arteries, it reduces blood flow to your heart, leading to coronary artery disease.

8. Prevent gallstones

Gallstones form when there’s too much cholesterol in your bile for it to remain as a liquid, so it solidifies. They are particularly prevalent in the obese. To prevent gallstones, doctors recommend a diet high in fibre to help you control your weight and cholesterol levels.

9. Beat diarrhea and constipation

Whether you can’t go to the bathroom or you just can’t stop, fibre found in apples can help. Fibre can either pull water out of your colon to keep things moving along when you’re backed up, or absorb excess water from your stool to slow your bowels down.

10. Neutralize irritable bowel syndrome

Irritable bowel syndrome is characterized by constipation, diarrhea, and abdominal pain and bloating. To control these symptoms doctors recommend staying away from dairy and fatty foods while including a high intake of fibre in your diet.

11. Avert hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoids are a swollen vein in the anal canal and while not life threatening, these veins can be very painful. They are caused by too much pressure in the pelvic and rectal areas. Part and parcel with controlling constipation, fibre can prevent you from straining too much when going to the bathroom and thereby help alleviate hemorrhoids.

12. Control your weight

Many health problems are associated with being overweight, among them heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes and sleep apnea. To manage your weight and improve your overall health, doctors recommend a diet rich in fibre. Foods high in fibre will fill you up without costing you too many calories.

13. Detoxify your liver

We’re constantly consuming toxins, whether it is from drinks or food, and your liver is responsible for clearing these toxins out of your body. Many doctors are skeptical of fad detox diets, saying they have the potential to do more harm than good. Luckily, one of the best – and easiest – things you can eat to help detoxify your liver is fruits – like apples.

14. Boost your immune system

Red apples contain an antioxidant called quercetin. Recent studies have found that quercetin can help boost and fortify your immune system, especially when you’re stressed out.

15. Prevent cataracts

Though past studies have been divided on the issue, recent long-term studies suggest that people who have a diet rich in fruits that contain antioxidants – like apples – are 10 to 15 percent less likely to develop cataracts.

The Central Bank of Nigeria has said it will penalise Deposit Money Banks that have liquidity challenges by way of temporary suspension from its lending window.

In a circular issued on Wednesday, the apex bank announced a change in its rules of engagement with the banks, spelling out new rules regarding how financial institutions could borrow cash from fellow banks or the CBN to cover their temporary shortfalls or meet their obligations.

The regulator declared that any commercial bank that failed to comply with the new directives would be suspended from its window for eight weeks.

The circular, dated February 1, 2017, with reference number, FMD/DIR/GEN/CIR/08/001, was signed by the Director, Financial Market, CBN, Mr. Alvan Ikoku.

Banks scramble for fresh capital as naira weakens further - Punch Newspapers
http://punchng.com/banks-scramble-fresh-capital-naira-weakens/

Rising non-performing loans and imminent fall in naira value have put banks in a precarious position and needing to raise fresh capital in a distressed economy, OYETUNJI ABIOYE writes

Palpable fear has gripped the chief executives of many large-tier and mid-tier Deposit Money Banks as an imminent fall in the naira exchange rate throws up a need for additional capital raising.

Checks by our correspondent show that the Capital Adequacy Ratio of a number of the country’s mid-tier and weak large-tier banks is currently at the threshold stipulated by the Central Bank of Nigeria.

This means that in the absence of additional capital raising, a slight depletion in capital will make a number of the banks to fall below the minimum CAR prescribed by the CBN.

Aside from mounting non-performing loans among the country’s lenders, findings by our correspondent showed that a possible fall in the official exchange rate of the naira would make at least five of the banks to fall below the 16 per cent minimum CAR stipulated by the apex bank.

“THE SITUATION IS A BIT TERRIBLE NOW.

Aside from the NPLs that are rising among a number of banks, any fall in the naira-dollar official rate will put many banks in trouble as far as the CBN’s CAR is concerned.

This is because many of us are already at the threshold. A slight fall in the value of the naira means not less than five banks will sink below the CBN’s CAR,” an executive director in one of the leading banks told our correspondent on Sunday on the condition of anonymity, because he was not officially authorised to speak on the matter.

TRANSCORP FAITHFULS,PLS READ AND DIGEST WELL

Chairman of Transcorp and United Bank for Africa Tony Elumelu has expressed fear over the
downward drain of the power sector in Nigeria
- Elumelu said the government is owing Transcopr over N50billion leading to the poor
performance of the company
- He said if necessary actions are not taken, the power sector will crash and Nigeria will
wallow in total darkness
Tony Elumelu, chairman of Transcorp and the United Bank for Africa, has revealed that
Nigeria’s power sector is going down the drain and will soon collapse if necessary
actions are not taken by the federal government.
Elumelu stated that the Transcorp is being owed so much money running into almost
N50billion and added that if the company includes the invoice for January, the
company will be owed close to N55billion.
Power supply is failing in Nigeria
Vanguard is reporting that the agency that is responsible for making sure that the sector
delivers optimally is not doing well enough.
READ ALSO: 3 reasons power supply has been bad nationwide
Elumelu said: “We are owed a lot of money. Transcorp Power Holdings is owed almost
N50 billion. When we put in the invoice for this month, we should be owed almost N54
billion or N55 billion.
“How do you survive in business like this, how? Other GenCos I know are actually dying.
“We are struggling because of our diversified resource base, what of others? Something
urgent and drastic must be done.
"It is as urgent as yesterday. The truth is that Transcorp Power, as a key operator in the
sector, is struggling. And if we are struggling, you can imagine what others are going
through.”
Elumelu explained that the challenge began when dollar was N168, but when the dollar
rose to N300, there was a mass depletion of value to shareholders.
READ ALSO: EU will spend N50 billion on Nigerian power sector
He said: “ Today, the dollar is N300 officially and N500 on the black market to the dollar
so imagine the depletion, the erosion of value to shareholders of Transcorp. ”
He added that this development cannot encourage investment in the sector.
He explained that the company initially negotiated with General Electric to bring
turbines worth $500million but aborted the plan due to the company’s inability to
secure the foreign exchange needed for the business.
This even the more reason to buy to TRANSCORP.

For laymen like LOCO who doesn't understand the tone of the message.

Tony Elumelu stated that as a VIABLE COMPANY they have done their bid by providing SERVICE while GOVT on the other hand is owning about N55billion which inturn lead to depletion of shareholders value e.i TRANSCORP share price fell from above N7:00k to below N1:00k as well created a very good entry position for some BARGAIN HUNTERS smiley.

In a nutshell GOVT DEBT is their major CHALLENGE unlike MANY MORIBUND COYS in NSE that are accessing all avenue to raise FRESH CAPITAL and BAILOUT FUNDS .
