BoPP COMMENDS GREATER PORT HARCOURT AS IT AWARDS N709M WATER SCHEME CONTRACT TO PCI 28th February, 2012

The Director General of Rivers State Bureau of Public Procurement (BoPP), Mr. Franklyn Nlerum, has commended the Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority (GPHCDA), for ensuring a transparent procurement process for contracts awarded by the Authority, urging other Ministries, Departments and Agencies of Government to emulate GPHCDA.
Mr Nlerum said this at GPHCDA Head Office, in Trans-Amadi - Port Harcourt, during a kick-off meeting between GPHCDA and one of its contractors, Process Constructing International Nigeria Limited (PCI).
The Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority had earlier secured a Certificate of No Objection from the Bureau of Public Procurement (BoPP) to award temporary water project to Process Constructing International Nigeria Limited (PCI) for the sum of N709 Million naira.
Speaking at the site handover ceremony, the Administrator, GPHCDA, Dame Aleruchi Cookey-Gam explained that the water scheme was necessitated by the need to provide portable water to the entire Phase1A of the New City, adding that the project was part of the measures being deployed by the Authority to discourage the indiscriminate sinking of private boreholes in the Greater Port Harcourt City.
Some of the benefiting institutions are the new Sports Precinct; new mega hospital, permanent site of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, 3,000 housing units in phase 1A and part of the central business district.
In his response, the Project Manager- PCI, Engr.John Bredahl stated that his company had executed bigger water projects in Kano and some other African countries and therefore was confident to deliver the project within the 12 months deadline.

Other contracts awarded recently by GPHCDA are: the first phase of the M10 freeway that will link the Port Harcourt International Airport and the Onne Seaport, to Lubik Construction Company (LCC); the construction of 33KVA electrical supply substation by Weltek Nigeria Limited and the Interim Storm Water Canals, a dual carriage Access Road and Street Lighting for the Adokiye Amiesimaka Sports Precinct awarded to China Gezhouba Group Corporation (CGGC).

GREATER PORT HARCOURT AWARDS N30.9Bn FREEWAY CONTRACT 14th February, 2012

As part of the implementation of the New City Master Plan, the Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority (GPHCDA) has awarded a N30.9 billion contract for the construction of the first phase of a 40-kilometer M10 freeway, to link both the Port Harcourt International Airport and the Onne Seaport.
The Administrator, GPHCDA, Dame Aleruchi Cookey-Gam JP, who announced the award of the first 11 kilometres stretch of the project to Lubrik Construction Company (LCC), explained that that the road, when completed, would bring tremendous economic and social benefit to the State and nation at large.
According to Mrs Cookey-Gam, “the man-hour lost as a result of lack of direct access to Onne seaport and the International airport, was huge and impact negatively on the economic and social life of the State, hence the need to”.
She emphasized that the road which is a dual carriage way will have arterial edges leading to new development areas even as it provides access to commercial business districts in both the new and old cities, saying that the State Government considers the M10 road very critical to the development of the State.
The first phase of the M10 freeway which is expected to be completed in 30 months begins at Professor Tam David West Road and stretches through 11kilometres with 5 bridge components, terminates at Ikwerre Road.
On phase 2 and 3 portions of the 40mk Road, the Administrator explained that phase 2 would commence at Ikwerre road where M10 phase 1 ends and continues for 16.6km to end at an access interchange at Aba Road while phase 3 continues for 15km to tie into the main road leading to Onne port.

Reptyle: Guy grow a brain and stop being such a louse! Its possible to counter a point without speaking so condescendingly. Y,all are talking about him burying the rubble but you particularly would be up in arms queryingmthe amount that it would cost to execute such an operation. I did state earlier that filling potholes with the rubble was not a well thought out idea even though it may have been done with noble intentions.

As to whether I'm Alhaji Harem, i would simply say that just because you often open threads here where you end up responding to urself with your multiple identities doesn't mean we all do it.

This man is lucky he's governor in an uncivilized country like nigeria,a country full of savages. In a civilized society, this whole debacle would be enough to end his political career and render him a non-entity BUT not so in my 'dear' country where thieves are worshipped and applauded.pity!!Nigerians are indeed fools and we really deserve the kind of leaders we get.You brazenly applaud a man who has the guts to fly his father abroad for treatment after sacking his state docs while your mother cant afford to get treatment at any of those ramshackle primary health centers littered across the city....pity!

Fashola, why wont u for once accept d shame u brought on urself. Instead of hiding his head in shame, he now attributes the recall of the 788 sacked Drs to plea from ACN Worldwide! Isnt this laughable? D same man that refused to dialogue till NIC gave its verdict on his preliminary objection. Now that that verdict is against him, and knowing wat d state would lose if it eventually loses to d Drs in d substantive suit, he now quickly recalled d Drs attributing d recall to ACN. It wont wash. ACN's dirty image wont clean up that easily. I just hope the Drs dont get intimidated into withdrawing their suit.

Sweetlemon: Do you know what sets Fashola apart other politicians in Nigeria? it's not that he's a saint or that he does not have some stolen money somewhere. He's a damn good politician! He's the most intelligent politician Nigeria ever had and knows how to play the game of politics so well. he knows what to say, when to say it, how to say it, and who to say it to. He hits the bull's eye with such prcecision and accuracy that it becomes difficult for you to argue with him! He also is aware that actions speaks louder than words so he spends more time WORKING. He doesn't give excuses for shortcomings, or engaging in the blame games that politicians love playing, instead he accepts responsibilty for it. He sees an oppurtunity and grabs it tight. He also has this air of humility around him. These and more are the things that sets him apart.
please dont make me laugh abeg....the man is not WISE! let him go and ask the rivers state governor how he handled it when rivers doctors nearly held him to ransom.
no doctor....i repeat NO DOCTOR go scream strike for rivers state until amaechi comot.mark my words.....YET AMAECHI NO DEY PAY FULL CONMESS O,SO HOW DID HE DO IThuhWITH A STATE OF ABOUT 600-700 DOCTORS,HOW DID HE DO IThuh? you are here telling me 'intelligent politician'.....truth is fashola has shown himself not to be a deep thinker forget all this lawyer grammar wey im dey blow on national TV once in a while.A small situation crops up and your first option is to sack all your doctors. If you think thats wisdom...please check into YABA(o i forgot they are on strike).
Politics › Re: Fashola Reverses Firing Of 34 Doctors (Out Of 788) by phantom(m): 8:49am On May 31, 2012
the LASG is wicked to say the least.you sign an agreement with doctors 3 yrs ago.On numerous occassions these same doctors had dialogued with you in an effort to press home their demands and you kept on shifting the goal post. They go on strike on multiple occassions to reinforce their demands but being who they are they call of each strike PREMATURELY BECAUSE OF THEIR PATIENTS.
The govt now realises these doctors are weak at heart and being politicians they are, capitalise on it and keep shifting the goal post.
The doctors realise they are being played and decide to harden their hearts in other to get that ONE thing. The govt realises the doctors mean business this time and go town with the propaganda they are well known for.
THEY TELL LAGOSIANS THAT AT EACH TIME THE DOCTORS CALLED OF PAST STRIKES,IT WAS BECAUSE THERE WAS A SALARY INCREMENT!AND LAGOSIANS SWALLOWED IT HOOK,LINE AND SINKER!NOT KNOWING THAT DOCTORS HAVE BEEN STRIKING AND CALLING OF(because of their patients) OVER ONE 3 YEAR OLD AGGREEMENT.KAI!
UNFORTUNATELY THE DOCTORS HAVE LOST THE PR WAR(you cant beat a politician at his own game) AND I BLAME THEM FOR SITTING BACK IN THEIR CLINICS AND WARDS WHILE THE GOVT F***KS EM UP(pardon my language but in this case i think its apt)
MY BROTHERS LOOK AT WHAT BAD GOVERNANCE HAS DONE TO THE POLICE.ARE WE REALLY PREPARED TO SEE WHAT THESE THIEVES WILL TURN DOCTORS INTO??
Politics › Re: Fashola Reverses Firing Of 34 Doctors (Out Of 788) by phantom(m): 8:21am On May 31, 2012
Reptyle: But you forgot to add that this is the first time that doctors are going on strike in the UK since 1975...and that there have been numerous labor disputes since then but the doctors exercise restraints because they recognize that they hold sensitive positions. You also forgot to add that the strike in June is for one day and the BMA made it expressly clear that doctors would be on hand to attend to emergency cases throughout the duration of the "one-day walkout" on June 21st.
the reason they have not gone on strike for 35yrs in the uk,meanwhile doctors here go on strike almost every year is the same reason why they have regular power supply and we don't....please think!!!
the truth is the nigerian healthcare system is comatose and is life support machine is the doctors.pure and simple!

mbhs139: Well, by way of contributing to this discussion, I wouldn't want to joint those that throws decorum into the winds in the name of making their point. What I will simply say is that if Fashola is interested in taking a shot at the presidency, he should rather wait until after 2015 and use that waiting period to do his home work thoroughly, just like he did before he became the Lagos State Gorvernor.

I also agree wit the person that said foreign investment will flow into Nigeria if Fashola becomes the Presidetn of this country. He's right to a great extent. This is because of the respect and admiration the international community has for him personally and his administration in general.

This is a man whom when he talks you get inspired. This is a man that goes about with just three vehicles in his convoy (a LASTMA outrider, his own at the middle, and an ambulance behind), and without the usual fun fare and siren blaring like others.

Here is a man who believes in the rule of law. I'm begging to sound like I'm campaigning for him already grin, Let me stop here before people start stoning me grin
