Abagworo: It is good to free your mind and accept constructive criticism. Julius Berger was expelled by Amaechi for their refusal to commence work at the Eleme junction bridge even after the security of their staff has been guaranteed by Government. I'm a friend of Akwa-Ibomites anyway. What I'm saying here is that nothing in Akwa-Ibom justifies the "jara" 12billion per month. Rivers State is not better off but the cost of running Rivers State is much higher than Akwa-Ibom and the quality of roads(not aesthetics) in Rivers is far better. Rivers State is riverine and has much more difficult terrain too. Amaechi has stolen some funds but Akpabio should be one of Africa's richest men.
reallyhuh? shocked shocked.......the only companies right now in PH with fairly good quality of roads is RCC and LCC....and even at that dem no reach julius berger.why you dey talk like this now?have you been to uyohuh?
i am a thoroughbred PH boy, maybe like you, but lets say the truth abeg.the quality of roads in AI is far better.

Amaechi: Rivers to Spend N21bn on Trans-Kalabari Road

By Ernest Chinwo

Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi has said his administration would spend N21 billion on the construction of the Trans-Kalabari road, the major road project covering the Kalabari-speaking area of the state.

He said contract for the project has been awarded to Lubrik Construction Company (LCC).

He stated this during a Town Hall Meeting with the people of Asari-Toru Local Government Area of the state at the Kings National College Field, Buguma.

“Trans-Kalabari road is coming. We have awarded the contract to Lubrik for N21 billion. You know before, what I promised the chiefs is that I will stop at Bakana, but now we have agreed to take it to the end in Buguma and one assurance I give you is that by January, I will mobilise the contractor to start work.

“We will do the roads according to importance. The most important road for me is the Trans-Kalabari road and the money is heavy, N21 billion, allow me focus on that road first then we can talk about the other roads,” he said.

He said his administration had been working on completing old projects in Asari-Toru Local Government Area and congratulated the Kalabari people and the youths for being peace-loving and for stopping kidnapping and other criminal activities as foreign contract workers now do their job undisturbed.

“When I was campaigning right here, I promised to consolidate on the old projects that we have. I did not say I will do too many new projects and if you look at it we have been trying to complete the old projects. The only new thing we have done in Buguma or in Asari-Toru is the farm, but before I talk about the farm let me congratulate the Kalabari people, you have changed completely,” he said.

The governor said his administration would reclaim more land from the rivers in Buguma and finish up land reclamation already going on in Abalama community in Asari-Toru Local Government Area.

Amaechi assured the people of the preparedness of his administration to fully furnish the 10 model primary schools in the area and complete the model secondary school in Buguma.

He also disclosed that three general hospitals to serve as referral points are to be built in each senatorial zone.

He said, “We are looking at developing three general hospitals that will serve as referral points. The one for this area is in Degema. We will look at the Degema hospital and renovate it between now and early next year so that anybody around here, Asari-Toru, Akuku-Toru everybody can go there and be attended to.”

Amaechi also promised to build skills acquisition centre in Asari-Toru to train the youth on various skills to keep them engaged, stressing that micro-economic activities would again grow with peace restored in the area.

Earlier, Chairman of Asari-Toru Local Government Area, Hon. Ojukaye Flag- Amachree, praised Amaechi for developing the local government area.

He also commended the Governor for locating the N1.5 billion fish farm project and the on-going multi-billion naira model secondary school in the area.

He said, “Governor Chibuike Amaechi has done more in development of Asari-Toru Local Government than any other past governors of the State. I wish to reveal to all here present that Asari-Toru Local Government has received about half a billion Naira from the State Government.”

Abagworo: I'm from Imo State. My point is that there is nothing to show for the extra 12billion he has received monthly for the past 6years. Attah performed better when you compare. To whom much is given, much is expected. None of those roads is worth 12billion.
it is more expensive to build roads in the niger delta because of the terrain TRUE or FALSE??

WAIT, A COUNTRY WHERE ANYONE WHO IS NOT WORKING OR RECEIVING GOVERNMENT BENEFITS AND PEOPLE WHO EARN LOW WAGES, (SOMETHING THAT'S MORE THAN MINIMUM WAGES IN THAT GOD FORSAKING COUNTRY), ARE ENTITLED TO FREE HEALTHCARE.

AND THIS IS NOT EVEN COMPARED TO THE CHINESE OR JAPANESE GOVERNMENT, WHICH IF I HAD TIME I CAN EXPLAIN WHY THEY ARE EVEN BETTER. AND THEN SOMEONE HAS THE GUTS TO SAY NIGERIA IS ON THE RISE. A COUNTRY THAT A LITTLE FIRE CRACKER, DESTROYED SEVERAL HOUSES AND LEAVING ONE DEAD. Top 10 largest economies (2012)

Here are the world's largest economies as of 2012 using GDP (PPP) Gross Domestic Product at Purchasing Power Parity. This method however uses the U.S. dollar to measure each country's equivalent goods and services. The European Union's economy if included as a trading bloc would be the world's top economy at $15.65 trillion.

1. United States
Leading the pack is the United States with a GDP (PPP) of $15.29 trillion and a per capita GDP of $48,100. Its economy's growth rate slowed to a rate of 1.5% in 2011 down from 3% in 2010 as a result of the on going economic slowdown. Analysts estimate that it will continue to post these growth rates in the following years.

2. China
With a GDP (PPP) of $11.4 trillion, China is the biggest winner during the global recession as a result of tightly controlled currency system which greatly benefits its manufacturing base. China's growth rate in 2011 is a very impressive 9.2%. Not so bad considering its growth rate in 2010 is 10.5%. China's aging population is a great concern noting that Japan's stagnant economy is due to the fact that its population is aging, whether or not the same fate would happen to China will be revealed in the years to come.

3. India
The world's second most populous nation is now head to head with Japan's economic might. With a GDP (PPP) of $4.5 trillion, it is still open for debate whether it has truly overtook Japan's stagnating and slowing economy. However, with a growth rate of 7.8% it is set to pull ahead and settle as the world's 3rd largest economy.

4. Japan
Japan's high tech themed economy is unfortunately not growing at all, at -0.5% it is actually shrinking. With a GDP (PPP) of $4.49 trillion it is close to say if Japan actually fell to 4th largest economy, even if it is still the world's 3rd largest, it is bound to drop lower in the rankings if its economy cannot get out of stagnation. Its high surplus or savings rate in the past proved to be a problem later on in the game as consumer demand also stagnated because the Japanese wants to save more instead of spending it.

5. Germany
With a GDP (PPP) of $3.13 trillion and a growth rate of 2.7% in 2011, Germany is a leading exporter of chemical and machinery. It is also the top financier and the largest economy in the European Union. Fiscal problems within the Eurozone particularly that of Greece's carried a significant burden to Germany's economic growth but still managed to pull a positive growth rate thanks to a recent rebound in exports and manufacturing orders.

6. Russia
Russia's revitalized market economy from a centrally planned economy proved very beneficial to its citizens jumping right up to world's 6th largest economy. As the world's leading oil producer and possessing the world's largest natural gas reserves, Russia has a GDP (PPP) at $2.4 trillion and is still growing at a rate of 4.3% as of 2011.

7. Brazil
Brazil's GDP (PPP) at $2.32 trillion overtook the United Kingdom to claim the world's 7th largest economy. At a real growth rate of 2.7% in 2011 down from 7.5% in 2010 it is still reasonable to say that Brazil's economy will stay ahead of Britain's sluggish economy.

8. United Kingdom
Britain's public debt coupled with an economic slow down gradually reduced its growth rate from 1.4% in 2010 to only 1.1% in 2011, these figures are actually a great improvement from a negative 4 growth rate back in 2009. The U.K's GDP (PPP) as of 2011 is at $2.29 trillion, but with a slow growth rate, it is uncertain whether the U.K can reclaim its former spot from Brazil as the 7th largest.

9. France
France's growing unemployment rate, and fiscal deficits pushed the country to implement austerity measures to bring down its budget deficit to a 3% target by the year 2013. Its growth rate since has increased from a -2.6% in 2010 to 1.7% in 2011. France's GDP (PPP) is at $2.24 trillion.

10. Italy
With a growth rate of 0.38% in 2011, Italy might lose its spot as the world's 10th largest economy to Mexico which is closing in with a real growth rate of 3.8% in 2011 and a GDP (PPP) of $1.68 trillion compared to Italy's $1.87 trillion. Italy's sluggish economic growth is largely impacted by the Eurozone crisis.

It goes beyond the structures lostpope. Its a matter of choice. U cant force me to send my kids to Amaechi schools when i have the financial might to take them to a better one. aribisala0: Development is not in structures and that is at the core of our problems in Nigeria and Africa. Japan was nuked twice in 1945 and Germany was completely devastated too. What has made them today the number 3 and 4 economies. It is the contents of their heads.

How many Nigerians or Akwa Ibomites are employed by Julius Berger in Senior roles as Engineers? JB have been in Nigeria for decades but still bring in white men to build bridges for us.Those bridges and other edifices are no different from the shiny pebbles we sold our brothers for centuries ago. Today who is responsible for maitaining the National assembly buildings ? White men from Germany who will soon be building a banquet hall where more cassava bread will be demolished and a palace for our VP.

Libya was at war in 2011 and many "structures" were destroyed they will be rebuilt; by white men and the Arabs will cheer and say "Isn't that great?"
Children will be killed this year in Akwa Ibom just like they were last year because they are "witches" and this will probably happen next year too. Infrastructure is good I agree but there are even better things and we don't seem any closer so let us not play this foolish game my governor is better than yours being deceived by the latest "pebbles" the greatest development takes place inside the human mind and right now we are still at the Boko Haram level/ binding and casting level.

There is really nothing to celebrate. Those who are old enough saw similar "development" under Gowon who boasted his problem was not money but what to do with it. Well those whose problem was money who knew what to do with it took it from us and gave us a huge debt to boot.
Today we are making more money from oil than EVER.
We are poorer than EVER
we are borrowing more than EVER and reading Nairaland it seems we have wasted a lot of money trying to educate our youth.

I know Akwa Ibom well and it is one of the most backward places in Nigeria. FACT!!

ypzilanti: Repeating the same phrase over and over again does not make what you are saying any sillier. Akwa Ibom was a backwoods...a virtual village settlement. I schooled in Calabar, so i know what i am talking about. From scratch, the guy elevated the place to an envied state in Nigeria.

For your information, corruption exists in the whole world. It is however only in Nigeria that we have total corruption: money allocated and stolen without any work done.

I am a supporter of Fashola for his serious efforts at managing a very peculiar state in Nigeria, but do you want to swear here that there is no corruption in his government?

Please learn to apreciate as well as criticize. It is only fear of God that makes Nigerian governors do the work they were elected to do. EFCC is a joke. If they want, they can steal every kobo and nothing will happen.
