COMPAQ: The monorail in not really necessary for port Harcourt. There is a lot more improvement on the roads that could have been done to improve the traffic situation. For me the only city in Nigeria that really really needs a monorail is Lagos. Lagos has the middle class to sustain it and the benefits as per improved mobility in Lagos will far exceed what it will generate in Port Harcourt. ...are you for real my man if you dont know it,know it now....LAGOS HAS NO BLOODY MIDDLE CLASS.WHAT YOU HAVE THERE IS THE SUPER RICH AND THE SUPER POOR!! ![]() |
dBard: dude, nobody is being unreasonable or negative here. we're Rivers, n dat project doesn't make 2much sense..maybe in pics n on paper but not wen u look at d reality on ground. The distance is short, it is Ridiculously expensive, n it runs from 'town' t UTC junction, wen most ppl leaving town r either headed t Boro park, education,d miles or twards Rumoula, so how has dat solved any/decongested d traffic situation?? UTC,d dis embarkment point has no provision f bus or cab terminal, so u can imagine wat d situation 'll b like even if one is created. lets leave bias n all aside n call a spade a spade. It Is an Unpopular project, no matter hw long or hw much d HE tries t sell it t d populace.err....sorry but have you actually read up on this project?? sharks stadium to UTC is actually phase 1A,phase 1B is UTC to waterlines......remember,there is a phase 2 of this project.i live in PH and lets be honest this was an ill advised project from the start because its funds could have been channeled to other things.BUT while this is so,i believe since this project is already started, lets give them the benefit of the doubt.if phase 1 is completed, you can imagine the reduced pressure on aba road at that segment(sharks to waterlines). And for those comparing a monorail system to a LRT,i think they both serve completely different functions. the lagos LRT system to badagry makes absolute sense and is on point. The LRT is the best INTERCITY train system which is what lagos is doing.in the same vein it would not make sense to do a monorail from mile 2 to badagry OR a LRT from sharks to waterlines.it just does not make sense!!The monorail IMHO is a good INTRACITY system, but can it be maintained do we really need it now is it a priority when what PH needs badly is roads![]() |

Rossikk: Fashola has no shame it seems. This is the same Lagos where streets are built with open drainage and no pedestrian sidewalks, (except on major highways). People forced to walk along sand and jumping gutters here and there. Has Fashoila never been abroad? Has he ever seen open gutter in his travels, or a street without a sidewalk or pavement? Why doesn't he start by FIRST ensuring that the streets are well constructed, before talking RUBBISH about peoples 'beautifying' their houses? Why should I bother 'beautifying' my 'premises' when my street is a mess? classic! |
shymexx: Not exactly the same with Lagos... The population of Abuja isn't even up to a million, while Lagos has almost doubled in the last 7-10 years... The population of Lagos should be about 15 million now, and it's like one of the smallest states in Nigeria(if not the smallest)... It's just too much...abuja less than a million?? @OP....oga fash please do the roads in lagos or go to jail! ![]() |
Its obvious most peeps here haven't lived outside lagos SMH |
Too many small boys on this forum pathetic! |
Considering only housing, on the average(that is considering the city as a whole)goes to abuja, then lagos before ph. Considering everything(general cost of living)I give it ph then abuja before lagos |
This is a conversation from my facebook page...names have been hidden! OA:No Dull Moment in this country of ours. Just as it looks like the Electricity problem is on the mend, Professor Barth Nnaji STEPS DOWN as minister for Power!!! What is actually happening ?!!!!!! Was he a solution discarded? Was he part of the problem. Abeg, we need answers!!!Ọ U: Electricity problem on the mend? Duuuh...that was the rains! 15 hours ago · Like EA: Was he sacked or he resigned? 14 hours ago · Like OA: Nope, it was not the rains, I actually confirmed more power plants had come on stream......,and the distribution network was worked upon. Meanwhile, hydro-electric input into our national grid accounts for a fraction of total installed capacity. Like I earlier said, I was hoping the Professor hasnt stepped on toes too big for GEJ to allow him leverage. His resignation surely cannot be out of incompetence, cos if that is the case there are many ministers who ought not to be there. But for now, we can only speculate. 14 hours ago · Like OA: heard he RESIGNED, and that GEJ has ACCEPTED his resignation. Take away 300MW from our current 4,440MW, we still have 4100MW. That, while still being small is still higher than any amount we have generated in years. Point is, much of the improvement came from more plants coming on stream, plus the distribution network being worked upon. 14 hours ago · Like EA: may b still he is under pressure but doesnt want to compromise 14 hours ago · Like · 2 CO: The man was never going to succeed in his mission of turning around the electric power sector. I had a friendly discussion with him in his hotel room one of those days in Lagos,a day before he became minister. He is a family friend but I was shocked at how old he had become. He was complaining a lot about the corruption in government and in PHCN and saying that he had already worked out a plan to put in power but the system was too corrupt to allow him work. He had even gotten foreign partners but they would not invest until the mess called power ministry was cleaned up. He said he will do his best but then as I said goodbye to him I knew he was going to run away from Nigeria one day. As at then workers at PHCN were actually having night vigil prayers against him and their prayer point was for him to die. I am not joking. People like him never last. He told me that if I started manufacturing equipment for the power industry he would make sure he forced the industry to buy from me and every other Nigerian who would manufacture such so that local jobs would be generated. I decided to slow down because the man did not know what he was up against. He was up against a system that was designed not to work. He had everything to lose if power did not work. With his private money and money he got from partners abroad, he set up a power plant in Aba, long before he became power minister. He did his best but I am very sorry for him. Nigeria just lost a prophet. The same way Soludo was messed up, Bart was also messed up. When will these Yankee men recognise that they are better off teaching at their universities than meddling in Nigerian politics. They say companies he owned had interests in the bids. That is another lie. He had resigned from the board of Geometric and co and his shares in them had been transferred to a blind trust even before he became special adviser on Power. Otedola and Dangote who are part of the FEC are still owners of their respective country. Land of hypocrites! Nnaji, said that Jonathan called him and told him that he (jonathan) was going to use one of Nnaji's companies to buy shares by proxy for himself( Jonathan). Nnaji however said he told Jonathan that it would be better if he resigned so that his (Jonathan's) name and the reform process would not be dragged into the mud. Now this is where it gets interesting. Never believe at face value what you hear or see in Nigeria. 3 hours ago · Like EC: This is a man who refused to participate in the panel that valued the bids and he resigned from the his company's board and handed his shares over to a blind trust. He put in his whole heart into the process. His own brother in-law participated in the bid and lost and Nnaji did not lift a finger to help him. It looks like in Nigeria, honesty is a joke. No country can survive with injustice. I hope GEJ and co know that the investors came because of Nnaji's pedigree. There is going to be a massive loss of confidence now. I just hope the man can recover his shares and go back to his companies and participate in the bids or at worst go back to his lecturing job in the USA. In one year he generated up to an additional 1200MW. He told me his plan was 13000MW by 2015 but that Nigeria will need $10bn /annum to achieve that and that is money Nigeria does not have so he opted to go for the foreign investment option. However, he put in a clause to ensure that by 2015, the Power sector would be the major source of new employments in Nigeria because all the investors would be forced to buy locally manufactured parts from Nigerian owned companies. He promised that he will personally empower those companies even if they were start up companies. This is a man who quarrelled with Theodore Orji, governor of Abia because Orji refused to build good roads in Aba. The plan was that Nnaji's power plant in Aba would power all of Aba and Umuahia and environs and with the good roads, Aba will become the center of commerce in Nigeria. Theodore Orji failed him of course. This was before he became special adviser. He also quarrelled with Orji Uzor Kalu because Kalu would not let the gas power pipes pass the short route from Port Harcourt directly into Aba for his (Kalu's ) selfish reasons. The pipelines had to now take the long route. This man meant well for Nigeria. 3 hours ago · Like[/b] OA: Very revealing, I just went through the news report where Nnaji gave reasons why he resigned. There was a lot of "he" and "him" pronouns used that I dont know at which point if "he" referred to Nnaji or GEJ. But after de-constructing the sentence, it seems Nnaji is saying GEJ wanted to use Nnaji's company to buy shares for himself(GEJ) by proxy, a situation which then led Nnaji to resign. I may have read it wrongly but if am correct, for a man who VOLUNTARILY and OPENLY declared his situation before the technical evaluation committee (a sign of uncommon honesty), such "allegations" coming from such a man, even though yet unproven should deserve more than average attention. 3 hours ago · Like EC:It really does. On that premise, Nnaji seems to have taken the fall on behalf of Jonathan. Nnaji and Jonathan are actually personal friends. He was the brain behind Jonathan's re-election campaigns. 3 hours ago · Like EC: election campaigns. 2015 is re-election. Jonathan is going to lose Okonjo-Iweala next. 3 hours ago · Like EC; He should surround himself with competent hands. Shocking if he removes all the honest ones around him. 3 hours ago · Like OA: I would even prefer it if he throws every competent hand out of his governement. So we can see the incompetence and cluelessness in its full glare. This just goes to show one thing: a technocrat can only be competent as his boss is willing to allow him. Thats why you see reputabions of reputable technocrats go up in smoke when they serve clueless leaders. 3 hours ago · Like EC: you can say that again. There is likely to be a snowball effect. Nnaji was a key member of the economic team and FEC. So is Okonjo-Iweala. Iweala will not be very able to solely stand against the rogues (she also seems to have a short fuse) because power under Nnaji was gulping a huge part of the budget as one would expect. If Nnaji is replaced by a rogue, the reform process will stall yet the same amount of money will be gulped. Her fuse will likely blow. Everything was actually tied to power, including the fuel subsidy stuff. Jonathan should be careful. He is blundering too much these days. First he sacked an NSA who dared to tell him the truth. Now this. Anyway, we are watching. Make I go work. My generator has just been fixed. 2 hours ago · Like Write a comment... |

AFDB RENEWS PARTNERSHIP WITH GREATER PORT HARCOURT 15th December, 2011 In a sustained move to drive the New City project, a team of African Development Bank (AFDB) Officials met with the Greater Port City Management team today. The AFDB led by its new Resident Representative, Dr. Ousmane Dore is exploring ways in which the AFDB and the Authority can partner in the development of infrastructure and capacity building. They also discussed sanitation and water reticulation in the the New City. The Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority (GPHCDA) Administrator, Mrs. Aleruchi Cookey-Gam explained the efforts of the present government in infrastructural development and urban renewal adding that the Rivers State government is constructing a new freeway (M1) linking both the Old and the New City as well as the M10 road to connect the air port and sea port in the State. She also stated that the government has put in place transparent procurement processes and other legal framework to facilitate infrastructural development. Mrs. Cookey-Gam intimated the ADB Reps that out of the proposed thirty thousand (30, 000) residential units in the Phase 1 of the New City, three thousand will be built in the Phase 1A area. Other notable projects in this Phase of the New City include the new Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST), a specialist hospital and the Sports Precinct where the State Government recently hosted the 17th National Sports Festival. Dr. Ousmane Dore on behalf of his colleagues, Francis Ntamu (Private Sector Specialist) and Peter Sturmheit (Country Programme Officer), spoke of the strategic importance of the AFDB as they promote social, economic and infrastructural development on the continent. Both the Authority and AFDB agreed to collaborate in infrastructural development and capacity building. Dagogo Josiah http://gphcity.com/GPHmedia/index.php?pageNum_rsNews=1&totalRows_rsNews=48 |
