PoliticsFirst Largest Container Vessel Berth In Onne Port After 12 Years by phantom(op): 9:26am On Dec 17, 2019
Efforts to increase ship traffic at the Eastern ports has received a boost with the successful handling of a containership measuring 265 metres in length overall by the West Africa Container Terminal (WACT) at the Onne Port Complex, Rivers State.

The ship, named JPO Volans, is the first gearless vessel and the largest containership ever to visit a seaport outside the Lagos area.

The Managing Director of WACT, Mr. Aamir Mirza, said the German vessel brought containers to the Onne Port from the Far East. He said it took only 2.75 days to turnaround the vessel.

“This is another major achievement for Onne Port and another testament to our commitment to set new standards and serve our customers better,” Mirza said.

He said WACT was able to handle this gearless vessel by deploying its newly commissioned Mobile Harbor Cranes.

“The key achievement here is our ability to handle larger, gearless, mainline vessels that were considered only suitable for terminals in Lagos. By handling these vessels, we have not only proven to the world that Eastern Nigerian ports are equally capable of handling these large ships but have also improved the profile of Onne port globally. I would like to particularly thank NPA, under the leadership of Madam Hadiza, Port Manager Onne, Onne Harbour Master and Pilots for their support in making this happen.

“With our major investment plans in the pipeline, this will go a long way in improving our capabilities and highlighting same to all our shipping line and landside customers,” the WACT Managing Director said.

In September, WACT acquired two Mobile Harbor Cranes worth $10 million (N3.6 billion) to boost operation at the terminal. The terminal operator also acquired 10 specialized terminal trucks and two new reach stackers to complement existing cargo handling equipment, to increase the turnaround time of vessels at the port.

The new cranes and other investments effectively brought WACT at par with its peers in Lagos ports in terms of equipment availability and operational efficiency.

“Our vision is to make WACT the best performing container terminal in West Africa. We believe we are on course to realizing this vision in record time with the support of relevant authorities and stakeholders,” Aamir said.

WACT, which is the first greenfield container terminal built in Nigeria under public-private partnership, started commercial operations in 2007 and has become the most efficient Nigerian gateway to markets outside the Lagos area. It has an annual container throughput capacity of 314,000 TEUs, with 375 reefer plugs and a draft of 10.5 meters alongside.

RomanceRe: I Am Getting Married Yet I Am In So Much Pain/ by phantom(m):
Bro, you are not prepared emotionally and financially for marriage at this time. QED
You dont think things through before you do them. You act on impulse just to please others and in doing so, you've found yourself in a hole and because you are not logical, bold, realistic and mature( LIKE A MAN SHOULD BE), you are making that hole deeper by the 'knee jerk' reactions you take.

Secondly, if you feel your wife's attitude is NOT because of the baby, you should let her go. This life is too short. You cannot kill yourself.
A salary of 100k is enough for a woman who is humble, truly loves you and is willing to manage until things get better.
You've not finished marrying this lady and shes already showing attitude. What will then happen in the marriage ? Why I said you were not ready financially is that your present salary cannot solve the growing responsibilities around you.

PoliticsRe: What Is Your Opinion About The Nigeria Land Border Closure? by phantom(m): 7:53am On Oct 23, 2019
Sound idea! Those borders must remain closed. In fact I support those borders remaining closed for at least 1 year while we improve border security and build our local manufacturing.
This border closure will force rapid boost of our local economy in the long run. It will be painful at first. Demand will far outweigh supply initially before we reach an equilibrium and the scales tip.
So do not expect any reduction in prices for now!! This move may just the best thing this man has done in a long while and if he maintains it, nigerians themselves will be shocked at the immense benefit and boost to our local economy.
This move alone can lift millions out of poverty in a short while IF WELL IMPLEMENTED!

The masterstroke in addition ,would be to deregulate power generation. Power has no business being on the exclusive list. At least deregulate power in the states that give this country the most revenue : lagos, rivers, kano, oyo, ogun, anambra
