Frank-C:
The poster is sounding incoherent at best. You trusted a man to help you dig out dirt in a system and he got tips from thesame system to change his findings. Is the right thing not to disown the person for betrayal of trust? As for his findings, how can a man with the capacity to doctor reports for monitary gains be expected to have done a thorough job of investigating a corruption crime, especially with the weighty cloud of allegation hovering over him?

THERE'S NO "SINGLE" BEST PRODUCER IN NIGERIA, THEY ALL HAVE THEIR SEASONS. WE WOULD HAVE REASONABLE ANSWERS IF THE QUESTION WAS "BEST PRODUCER SO FAR IN 2012" AND CO. AT A TIME IT WAS NELSON BROWN, A SEASON IT WAS OJB, THEN ID CABASA AND A WHOLE LOTS. I THINK IT IS SEASONAL.

PoliticsTHE #DANACRASHACTION REPORT (with Account Details) by pheesayor(op): 4:28pm On Jun 25, 2012
4th June, 2012 was a black Sunday for Nigeria. On that day, a commercial flight belonging to Dana Airline had crashed in Lagos into a building and its parts into four adjoining ones; killing all on board and other families on the ground. The nation was thrown into great mourning. This had been one of the most vivid and unfortunate air mishap in a while. Almost everyone had someone involved in the crash, or a family friend or friend of a friend.

On Monday, 5th June, 2012; notably Seun Fakuade (@seunfakze) and Kathleen Ndogmo (@kathleenndongmo), used social media platform Twitter to launch, then an immediate and initial relief material response call across the nation calling for friends and loved ones not only to mourn and eulogize those who had departed but help those different families who had been displaced by the crash with material (non-cash) donations. The Plan was simple: use distress calls to help gather relief materials in the country. These generated many responses with loving friends helping the effort by tweeting and retweeting critical information that proved to be significant to the success of the effort.

The relief collation was given a timeline frame of 4 weeks to ensure collation, stock taking (inventory of materials) and ultimate distribution. This was divided in 2 week phases of Collation and Distribution. Twitter was ultimately used to kick start and sustain this relief effort, while Broadcasts via Blackberry helped served its purpose too. Volunteers sprung across Nigeria with LAGOS- @babatundejnr, @teni_beauty2, @shecrownlita (then in Nigeria), @kathleenndongmo, @wildeji, @realebony, @nisots @dupekila; KADUNA (whispringice), BENIN CITY (@thisiseseosa), ABUJA (@seunfakze @4yusuf, @abangmercy, @peckyugo), ILE-IFE (zebbook), IBADAN (@gboukzi) and very many others who would have preferred to remain anonymous but whose efforts cannot be overlooked as critical to the continued success of this effort including @kwamiadadevoh, @mrsleevesup, @omojuwa, @dupekilla, @jodusolu amongst many silent heavyweights.

Given the urgency of the case, other daring and loving people came on board beyond Nigeria, in the UK with @topeolowu and @forumeditor (non-Nigerian) noticeably helping to spearhead the drive from the onset. Others include @olaoluwakite, @abdullahiaborode, @shecrownlita (who then was in Nigeria and who played a significant role while in Nigeria), @Zaraliscious, amongst many innumerous helpers.

Many Nigerians expressed doubts and cynical venomous responses trailed our collective effort to the Dana Crash relief collation. Notwithstanding, materials came in from Lagos and beyond. We took much consignment of goods and relief materials and was provided a storehouse at the RISE place. A temporary shelter home was temporarily rented around the suburban of Ogba, where our unyielding volunteer effort produced partitioned makeshift flats to house the families of 5 (at first) then 15 altogether.

We owe to @wildeji, @shecrownlita, @babatundejnr, @teni_beauty2 the gratitude and appreciation of making the daring and visionary effort of the Shelter which till date houses these Internally Displaced People (IDPs).

The inventory of the materials began in earnest and the first batch of relief efforts went out in a week in food items, mattresses, fans, a generator donated and fueled by Jubaili Bros. We had many helpful bailouts along the way which helped speed track the effort material collation across Nigeria. For instance, Abuja collation material had ABC Transport provided us with a N6,000 rebate after we had explained to the Manger of the intent of the goods. Thus the initial N18,000 became N12,000. The N12,000 was paid from the N2,000 that was provided by one of the volunteers (@ofastupidwoman from Clothes4Love) and the N10,000 from the N100,000 provided by a loving Nigerian. In all, N102,000 was provided from Abuja and details of the spending:

N12,000 for transport of goods through ABC with @4yusuf, @seunfakze and @abangmercy as witnesses
N4,000 sent to @whisperingice so as to send the Kaduna goods
N16,000 to clear UK goods at the airport; witnesses are @seunfakze and @teni_beauty2
N1,000 for transport to store; witnesses are @seunfakze and @teni_beauty2

N6,000 for transport of distributed relief materials to Shelter place for IDPs witnessed by @seunfakze, @wildeji, @realebony

These sum gives a total of N39,000 spent altogether leaving a balance of N63,000.

RELIEF MATERIAL DISTRIBUTION

Huge relief materials were transported from the store to the Shelter and first set of relief materials have been given to 9 present families out of the 15 families (IDP). Attached are pictures (and videos forthcoming) which we hope you will find time to go through, detailing the processes of signing and with family members. The other 6 families would also get the first set of the relief materials when they present themselves during this week. Let it be clear that accommodation at this shelter were paid by some of the generous Nigerians and were handled with the landlord directly without interference. This accommodation will lapse on 15th July, and these IDPs will be forced to the street if we fail to provide an alternative for them. We hope to solve their accommodation as soon as we are able to

THE DANACRASHACTION TRUST ACCOUNT

From the onset, we vehemently refused attempts to accept monetary cash as evident in all of our tweets owing to the cynical nature of Nigerians. Notwithstanding, we embarked on cash collection having being pressured by many in the Diaspora who wanted to contribute and even here in Nigeria. Also, we felt we may have earned the trust of many through the #SaveOke project that most of us had partaken in recently. Several banks were approached given the urgency of the situation; of these three @gtbank came to our rescue; providing Pounds, Dollars and Naira currency accounts for use.

The DANACRASHACCOUNT is a PUBLIC TRUST ACCOUNT and as such, NO MEMBER of the DanaCrashAction had knowledge of the details. Let it also be clear that no one can anyone access it outside the account signatories who are notable and reputable Nigerians. Till 9am this morning, no one knew the detail of the account, nor has anyone being able to access it. Unlike the #SaveOke initiative where we had a day by day update of the account, we had no ACCESS to this account as we were not directly involved with its discharge. This is needed so as to ensure transparency and absolute accountability as well as to ensure PUBLIC TRUST is not violated. This is thus the details of the account UNTOUCHED, UNUSED, UN-ACCESSED.. FINAL PHASE

The first of the final phase of distribution began have been done to these IDPs, the concluding parts will come these approaching weeks.

The accommodation of these IDPs will hopefully be sorted out too giving the account status and hopefully the help of others.

For the team, in Nigeria and abroad; it has been three weeks of unbelievable synergy, coordination, fast flurries of emails, calls, arguments and absolute love. Gratitude goes to YOU DONORS without which we would never have witnessed the joys on the faces of these IDPs, nor the cries, or the bond that has since existed between many unknown Twitterians.

It is not over yet; the DanaCrashAction website will launch soon featuring the collation of all the efforts, the intricate details, the list of Donors, the list of volunteers, the selfless contributions of all, the events (memorial, events, etc). We owe the effort of all concerned to make this work.

The team is proud, and we hold our head high despite the distrust from many quarters.

Thanks for YOUR unwavering support.

We made it through.

God bless you

unfortunately the distraction tactic is not working for GEJ anymore
PoliticsThus Said The Clueless King! by pheesayor(op): 8:09pm On Jun 20, 2012
And it came to pass that on the first day of the sixth month in the second year of the jubilee, the clueless king gathered the men of his inner kitchen together and made merry with them; music blared from the trumpets of Peter and Paul sons of Okeyemus who were appointed the kings musicians as they sang “We must chop thy money, O clueless king”. Cheap booze, cassava bread and women of easy virtue were in excess at the celebration.

Suddenly Rubentus the son of Abat the king’s spokesman rose and shouted, “O clueless king! May thou live and rule forever but whilst we drinketh and make merry, fire is on our mountain!” The clueless king in his drunken state answered saying; “What is it O son of Abat that bringeth fire to our mountains?”.
And Rubentus replied, “O king! Some months ago, when thou was filled with Ogogoro, thou promised thy subjects that in the sixth month of the second year of the Jubilee, the sons of Haramites shall cease to terrorize them”

The King then answered and said; “ I don’t remember any of these things, but if thou sayeth I said so then indeed I did. What shall we do about this?” retorted the clueless king.

Douglass the son of Okonto of the tribe of Bayesia then said, “O king, there exists a man in the kingdom, a kingmaker in the province of Edoab who “fixed” issues like this for your predecessors, he shall fix this, my king. He is Anenih the Edoite. Shall I summon him into your presence, O gracious king?”
The king then answered saying, “Good job, Okonto, summon Anenih the Edoite into my presence for his services are needed by the kingdom. We shall constitute a committee to bring him from the province of Edoab and another committee to cater for his wellbeing when he gets here, then we shall constitute another committee to be named The National Distraction Committee where the Edoite shall be the head. Do this immediately.” Okonto and Rubentus the son of Abat were amazed at the wisdom of the King and in unison they were forced to speak in admiration saying “O Clueless One, your wisdom is of the ages. May your cluelessness reign forever!”
And the heart of the king was gladdened; and he sought to revel in the praise of his servants, “Call me Queen Gbags and let’s splurge on more Ogogoro.” They partied into the next day.

And it came to pass that at noon on the second day of the sixth month of the second year of jubilee, Rhino the son of Humoki who was in charge of diffusing information to the kingdom of the twittarites on behalf of the king came to the kings quarters saying; “O great King, Anenih the Edoite has arrived and he is presently sitting at your majesty’s court, shall I inform the Twittarites of your meeting with him?” The clueless king replied “Humoki, are you a lizard? You know I am hated by the twittarites and informing them will only cause them to spin stories. Tell the Edoite that I shall join him soon and offer him the leftover cassava bread and ogogoro from yesterday’s celebration”
Rhino the son of Humoki then replied saying; “My lord and master, I already drank the remaining ogogoro from last night’s celebration early this morning as I was not invited and what shall I tell the twittarites today?”
The clueless king then replied saying, “little wonder your eyeballs are red, tell the twittarites whatever you want.
Tell them I am taking the war against corruption personal or something, just tell them anything! And get out of my chambers and take your stinking breath with you!”
The clueless king then came out to his court and greeted Anenih the Edoite saying, “I am glad to have you in my presence. I need your help on a particular matter. I promised my subjects that by the sixth month of the second year of the Jubilee, the Haramites will bomb them away no more. You and I know that I was drunk on Ogogoro and it was a mere drunken joke and you know these stupid subjects know how to hold me by my words especially the rebellious tribe of the twittarites. I have since constituted a National Distraction Committee and I want you to head it, please come to my aid”

Anenih the Edoite then answered saying, “O dear king, may you live forever! Your cluelessness is great and out of this world! I shall “fix this”. Douglass the son of Okonto and Rubenus son of Abat already briefed me on the situation, and here are the distractions I already have planned. Thou should rename Kanji Dam to Amen-by-Fire Hydroelectric dam, just like the Lagoon University, there will be a new round of protests over the Amen-by-Fire Hydroelectric dam and the subjects will have something else to talk about. As soon as this is going cold in the news, thou shall call Ibro the son of Lamrod who is in charge of fighting corruption in the kingdom to dust up some high profile files in his custody and make some arrests.
Also I heard that Facrook the son of Lawani the Kanoite collected some bribe from Famo the son of Otedollar of the trade of Oil over the oill subsidy business. We shall take advantage of that and sprawl it over the papers. Thou shalt then direct Rubenus the son of Abat to grease the palms of editors of different newspapers in the province of Lagoon and Ibadan, I already have Thisday covered your majesty. By the time we are finished with them, they shall have forgotten about the expiry date you set for the Haramites”

The clueless king listened to Edoite speak and was happy he asked the Edoite in a loud voice saying, “Anenih the Edoite, thank you very much for doing this, how can I ever repay you? Do you want an oil well or an importation licence?”
The Edoite then answered saying “O clueless king, may you reign forever, there is a small matter I need your help for, Adamu the son of Oshimul, one of the rebels, is the governor of my province, elections are around the corner and I need royal might to rig him out. That’s all I need, your majesty”

The clueless king then answered saying “Anenih my humble servant, your request shall be granted! It will be like killing three birds with one stone! You shall get your heart desire, your anointed governor will be added to our cult and rigging that election will be another distraction so the people won’t remember my promise to them”
Anenih the Edoite then said; “Dear king, your head is correct! I plead before thee, please chop thou knuckle!” And they chopped knuckle and the Edoite drank his Ogogoro and departed.

The clueless king then called on Rubenus son of Abat saying; ” O Rubenus, the Edoite has agreed to “fix” this for me! No need to worry, my job for today has been done! Please proceed to writing a postdated condolence speech for me in case the Haramites strike again. Make thee sure the speech is ready every Saturday night so I may have memorized it. Then call the servants and ministers together; we have achieved a feat today and this calls for celebration! Don’t invite the royal musicians Paul and Peter tonight, invite Wizzy the Kid instead, he perfectly describes the situation. Also get me a pair of my own carrot jeans for I shall be rocking them tonight

Rubenus the son of Abat was glad for the King had truly showed true wisdom. Then he called on Humoki saying, “stupid Humoki, can u still handle the twittarites or do I have to handle them for you?”

PoliticsRe: M.K.O Abiola And June 12 by pheesayor(m): 1:47pm On Jun 12, 2012
@OP,
Even if he had a dirty past, Nigerians voted for him massively, he was denied his mandate and he refused to give up. He would have become president after abacha died but he was killed for the same reason the election was annuled, which we still don't really know.

Renaming unilag will always be one of the dumbest and malicious decisions taken by this administration because

1. A name is changed when something is not making progress or has not been popular to become a strong brand. Unilag is a strong brand built over the years.

2. There is a pending resolution to rename the national stadium in abuja after him since he was the pillar of sports in Nigeria and the whole nation voted for him, not just lagosians or yorubas.

3. Renaming unilag was the wrong thing to do, the president knows this but wants to disunite the yorubas as his government has disunited us on ethnic grounds.

Abiola was a good man, at least to the majority who came across him but the fact remains nobody is a saint and we are human, nobody is perfect.

Distraction is all they can do now, but its only a matter of time. I weep for this country and how our leaders divide us on ethnicity but are united in looting. Time!
PoliticsHow The Nigerian Government Messes With The Minds Of Gullible Nigerians by pheesayor(op): 12:28am On Jun 12, 2012
Now this is not an article, this is just me trying to gist with too many people scattered in too many places. So, I will write this like I am talking to people informally not as an effort to impress the reader but an attempt at making Nigerians see a few things in the right perspective.

The Nigerian government never intended to punish the fuel subsidy cabal. A serving Senator had gone to the President in August 2011 to report the corruption in the subsidy process and the president had called his bluff. The Senator then went ahead to do the right thing. Days on, the president and his crew decided to withdraw subsidy, not because they wanted to punish the thieving cabal but because they wanted to ensure the people of Nigeria and not the government bear the brunt of the inefficiencies and corruption of the subsidy system. Today, we all know how that panned out. Nigerians refused and in the end we know it was not about Nigerians using too much petrol but about government intentionally allowing a few people to loot our common wealth.

Now, there is a report of that scam totaling about N3 trillion as at the latest count – including arrears paid this year – yet the government has been stalling on the House of Representatives’ probe report. Games and gimmicks on, time passed and now the government realised something had to be done about the report. In a sane society, “something” here would mean the prosecution of the indicted individuals and companies, in a mad and corrupt system as ours, something here means to throw a cog in the wheel of the justice process. Distract Nigerians, set the members of the committee up as corrupt and get them in a brawl of arguments that’d at least create doubts in the minds of the people. All they need was that doubt. Now they have more from the same Nigerians who were crying to see justice done to the subsidy probe report.

Trust me, they (the cabal) don’t care if Farouk Lawan is guilty, they just want us in doubt as to the veracity of the probe panel’s report. These men and women of perverse ways and corrupt means know that Nigerians run at every straw and dance to every beat of distraction. At this point, we must begin to ask the right questions. Farouk Lawan is only one of the committee members. Did the said money influence the content of the report? Is Farouk Lawan the report? Why is this happening now? Is this in the best interest of Nigerians who want to know what happened to over N2 trillion (given that even the remaining N1 trillion or so is even above the previous yearly subsidy budget averages)

First Obasanjo, Now Jonathan. Otedola knows who to ball with

They know we are obsessed with news portraying any politician as corrupt and they know we convict people long before they are convicted. They know our general makeup and they have simply thrown this bait of distraction to keep us dancing our way to 2015 while the rest loot and those in office do absolutely nothing. Mr. Otedola is currently with President Jonathan as I type this. The same Otedola in the eye of this storm. The same Otedola that has been seen carrying the bag of the legendary Patience Jonathan. If Nigerians don’t know what this is all about, then we deserve the evil we get from these lot. This is not about Farouk Lawan, this is about us.

Farouk Lawan is not a saint. I am not either. You have to know how to play the PDP game to remain influential in Nigeria’s politics since 1999 but as far as this fuel subsidy probe goes, himself and his committee members have done their job. Those who said the report exonerated some people are not saying the right thing. No report can achieve all its aims, that is why there are government institutions to follow up on such reports. Of course, the SSS has been busy trying to catch Farouk Lawan while Boko Haram has been busy killing Nigerians in droves. State devices are set against innocent Nigerians while evil people are called to the negotiation table when they successfully kill enough Nigerians. That’s why there is a phrase called “the Nigerian paradox.”

That we have charlatans in government is a known reality, that they know the mindset of Nigerians and their gullibility is another known reality. What is not known is whether Nigerians will get carried away by this Otedola distraction or instead focus on the N3 trillion loot.

Farouk dared the Cabal, the Cabal has N3 trillion and presidential powers to fight back

If Farouk Lawan is guilty, let him face the law but the State cannot prioritize his case above the fuel subsidy scam like it is already doing. To do so is to prove beyond all doubt that indeed the subsidy cabal has a head that cannot be differentiated from the head of Nigeria. That is not to say that has not been proven beyond all doubt though.

So, those who are interested can focus on the Otedola bait, while those who know the game well enough can focus on the real thing. N3 trillion or so has been stolen from Nigeria and as we speak, the government keeps throwing all sorts of distractions on the path of justice. The distraction started with the twin Abuja-Kaduna blast. We just pray the next distractions don’t include more bombs.

In conclusion: Yes, Nigerian politicians are guilty until proven innocent. The subsidy cabal has at least N2 trillion to work with and nail Farouk Lawan. This is the biggest scam in our history and Farouk Lawan, Bukola Saraki and the likes must be ready to suffer the consequence of standing in this case on the side of truth. There will be more consequences but it’d help to see Nigerians focus on the most important things. Has subsidy money be stolen? Yes. Let’s go after the culprits. At least that hit the#NationalDistractionAlbum charts before this latest distraction.

Videos can be doctored, but that over N2 trillion has been stolen from Nigerian’s federation account cannot be doctored. A cabal member bought a Polo Club in America last April. The government is broke. Yes, we cannot doctor our poverty, a poverty caused by wanton public stealing. Don’t be fooled, don’t be distracted, this is an act of deception from the same evil studio that produced the many fake videos we have been privy to watch since the days of Sani Abacha.

Whatever happened (or did not happen) between Otedola and Lawan cannot change reality. The reality that Otedola is the central striker in this game of grand deception. No one expects the president to do this himself. And yes, until he is proven guilty beyond every doubt, that he favoured Otedola in the report, Farouk Lawan remains innocent in the eye of this writer. The other culprits have been proven guilty so it is fair that justice takes its course. A man who ought to be in jail should not be available to set other people up. I should say more but it is time to allow others talk.

TravelEyewitness: We Refused To Let Arik Fly With One Engine This Morning – Singer Jah by pheesayor(op): 4:20pm On Jun 10, 2012
Stranger than fiction. But this news went viral via BlackBerries this morning:

This jst happened to Jahdiel, Nigerian Gospel artiste, few minutes ago..a wk after Dana Crash..wetin dey do naija airlines nah?

Imagine. I boarded an arik plane today for a program in ph, the plane was on for a while and we were all sweating profusely cos the ac was not on. I summoned a staff who attends my church asked him why..he said the second engine wasn’t working and dat the ac doesn’t work unless we take off. On hearing this we all disembarked the plane. Can u imagine they were trying to use a generator to start the engine. If arik planes can be faulty then no plane is safe to fly in nigeria.

Attempts to speak with the singer have not been successful as her phone is off, but her friend and fellow artiste, Nikki Laoye, confirmed the event. Repeated calls to the Arik Air spokesperson have not yet been returned.

We will continue to update you.

UPDATE: We have contacted the singer via and she sent us this message:

After my refusal of flying with the flight today with arik air to ph flight no W3 519 with one engine, a new plane was provided for us..we could even smell the “newness” pardon my english..we were all calm and at ease. My fellow nigerians, the word “manage” is not our heritage. We deserve the best we will always get when we speak out with one voice. One people, great nation.

TravelEye-Witness Account Of DANA Plane Crash: Like A Movie by pheesayor(op): 8:37pm On Jun 05, 2012
Like a scene in a movie, the events of June 3rd 2012 is not one I can ever forget in a hurry. It was 3.56pm and everyone had formed clusters around available TV set in preparation to watch the Nigerian National Football team play their Namibian counterpart in Calabar, a home match for the Eagles. Then came a loud scream from the grocery shop across my house, it was the owner shouting “Ki le leyi?” in Yoruba which by interpretation is “what is this?”

Such yell would arrest anyone, it was certainly an alarm! We all trooped out, since the match had not started, a little amusement could spice up a bright Sunday afternoon. Noone could guess what was behind such a distress shrill.

Getting outside, the feeling was of shock as well as amazement – an aircraft flying so close to the house roof? This must be a movie stunt, I thought at the time.

Haven always had a desire to understand the rudiments of movie-making; I thought it best to search for a camera so I could capture this rare spectacle. Some Nollywood stars must be behind this first-ever, real-live video shoot, I must fast locate the camera crew of this movie-in-the-making, I thought.

Then, it occurred to me that this massive object, with the inscription “DANA Airlines”  and as huge as the 3 storey building nearby can in no way be a stunt prop. Too close, the scene too real, too dangerous to be one.

Then poured comments and several questions – “What is the pilot doing?” “Is this a joke?” “This is in no way funny?” came in different languages and from different lips already aghast by the sight of the big bird hovering side to side, up and down. My cousin and I glanced at one another, and then it dawned on us that it was no joke afterall.

Little did we know that the pilot was in his moment of helplessness, confusion, anguish and last-minute attempt to save not just himself, but other one hundred and sixty souls (or thereabout) entrusted into his care just 45 minutes ago in Abuja.

Right at that moment the obviously-distressed aircraft took a sharp plunge straight ahead into a building occupied by a church (Redeemed Christian Church of God) sweeping though a newly constructed but yet-to-be-occupied residential building! Boom! It was a deafening sound. We – my neighbourhood was hit by a sad reality!

Those of us who had thronged out at first ran towards the crashed plane, and many were astounded by the loud sound, not knowing what the cause was.  We only could point in the direction,  a few of us could mutter “plane”, “ fly” “crash” or any other thing to communicate the horror, the thoughts in most minds was apparently running at a faster pace than words could express. The shock was indescribable!

In a moment, we got close enough but could not see much at first because of the smoke from the plane. A climb up the fence of a building nearby gave a view of the crashed plane.

Some others ran towards a 3-storey building which had a hit from the shredded wing of the plane. That was the house that the family who fell victim lived; they were reportedly seated, ready to watch the football match my entire neighbourhood ended up not watching.

As if in a flash, a fire started in a part of the building. Then came a man shouting from the balcony of the third floor, “What happened?” The yells of “plane!” “fire!” “jump!” from us all saw the man disappeared inside the house, to the bewilderment of everyone. However, he emerged few seconds later with a young child (his child), jumped down with the child wrapped and clutched to his body. As we later found out, the staircase was already crushed by the impact of the crash. I had believed and prided my father the best, but I must confess, I saw the great father in this man.

He landed alive but with a dislocated arm. We could only scream from a distance “Come out”, “Come out”; we were all too scared to go drag him out of the premises for fear another explosion or of the building collapsing. It took him about 3 minutes to get up, as he struggled out through the gate to the waiting arms of those of us who had alerted him.

We were interested in anyone still left in the building;  we asked, he could only mutter that his brother-in-law was in one of the rooms, fast asleep while he and his child were waiting for the other members of his family to come back from church. The agony of this moment was beyond words as we knew we could not risk going into the building to help the brother-in-law or anyone left.

Many residents of Iju have by now summoned the sense and courage to make calls continuously to media houses. Every known SOS agencies were contacted and bombarded with calls for help.

By now, the time was 4.30pm. Scores have gathered from everywhere around to catch a glimpse of what was going on.  Many living on Olaniyi Street and all around it started evacuating few valuables – TV sets, mattresses, chairs – in fear of an eventual fire to their homes. Generating sets were top priorities for most, as this was thought, and wisely so, a great aid to any inferno.

We could only wait for fire-fighters and rescue teams. The policemen from the nearest police station, Adeshola station came but could not do much. Indeed, no one knew what to do! We tried to break the windows of the burning storey building by throwing stones to allow for space for anyone who might be trapped and searching for a way of escape but none came out.

People started praying in their different religious faiths and tongues. A great many were in agonising tears. I was in tears. Old men with gray hairs were in tears, crying like babies. I have never seen such emotionally-rending scene, never!

There were those who wanted to have a share of the loot but those of those who got to the scene earlier prevented them to the best of our capacity.

The first set of fire-fighters came 40 minutes after the crash to the elation of us all. At least, all the houses would not be razed by this fire, as we all initially envisaged! We were ready to help and we encouraged the safety men so.

Despite the efforts of the fire-fighters, it was clear to us that with the raging fire, from the crashed aircraft or the buildings affected, it would be a miracle for any of the trapped occupants to make it through. The smoke from the airplane has now become a huge raging fireball! No one could go near, the heat was intense. We only could stare helplessly from a distance.

The first fire fighting crew did very well, and by the time they ran out of water, other trucks came. It was 5.40p.m.

Two helicopters were hovering, one belonging to Governor Fashola of the Lagos State (or so I thought) and another of the Nigeria Air Force which could not find a space to land.

The crowd had grown large, in their multitudes. Rescue workers from the Red Cross, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency team, The Police; in fact, every known law-enforcement agency was represented in their droves.

At 6.20pm, the rescue workers could go into the building to bring out victims- many of them, burnt beyond recognition, laid in body bags and whisked away by stand-by ambulances. What a day, what a scene, what a horror!

The quiet Iju community has since become a tourist site for many, robbed of its peace by the cruel angel of death.

Live on radio and tv, fashola has just handed over a new radio station lagos traffic fm 96.1 to lagosians. According to him it will inform lagosians about traffic situations in the state and also educate lagos commutters.
Your thought on this

With a symbolic traffic that is second to none, the Lagos state government, on Tuesday launched the first ever traffic radio station in Nigeria, Lagos Traffic Radio 96.1 in a bid to finding ways to ease the traffic.

The state governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola, who performed the ceremony at the Lagos Television premises, put the vehicular density of the state at 224 vehicles per kilometre, pointed out that traffic could be greatly eased, especially at rush hours if people who had no compelling reason to use their vehicles at such hours, keep away from the roads.

PoliticsHave You Read Gej’s Anonymous Letter? by pheesayor(op): 7:44am On May 27, 2012
GEJ’s anonymous letter to himself on Salami

A recently leaked letter has shown that President Jonathan is one the few individuals with the ability to successfully write anonymous letters to themselves. In a letter he titled “Anonymous letter to myself”, the president advised himself on the Salami issue. An excerpt is reproduced below:

“… you know I’m the only one in your life who truly cares, so trust me when I tell you not to reinstate Salami as Appeal Court president. You know that your first anniversary in office is fast approaching, just imagine if someone sues you and says you shouldn’t celebrate because you didn’t perform. If it gets to the Appeal Court and Salami is there, he’ll definitely rule against you and there would be no anniversary party for you. You don’t want that. Also, a good general leaves no soldier behind. You know that this battle is between your man Aloysius Katsina-Alu and the other people’s man Salami. You must stand with Aloysius. Whenever you’re clueless, just ask yourself, “What will Fashola do?” Do you think if Fashola sacks somebody, he’ll recall the person? Ask Lagos doctors. Lastly, does Salami have a Ph.D.? I’m not sure, remember to ask Adoke later. Just like you said the other day, our education sector is a mess because there’s shortage of Ph.D. holders, so also the Appeal Court is a mess and always against you because Salami might not have a Ph.D. and you do. Jealousy! Nigeria is progressing under your Ph.D. leadership; the Appeal Court can only progress with one as well.”

Politicians discover new cash crop

An inter-party team of Nigerian politicians visited Zambia for a pleading-meeting with Zambia’s President Michael Sata. They pleaded with Sata to pardon Zambia’s former Labour Minister, Austin Liato, who was last week sentenced to jail for burying $400,000 cash in his farm. According to the Nigerian politicians, they needed Liato to serve as a consultant to Nigeria on economy diversification and “cash planting as an alternative revenue source”.

The leader of the delegation (name withheld) said, “Just imagine the possibilities if we start growing our own cash crop in Nigerian farms. The grip of oil on our economy would be forever broken.” It is still unclear if the politicians really believe in this cash planting scheme or if they are just looking for an alternative banking structure since Swiss and London banks are suddenly becoming less co-operative.

Betting site for ex-presidents launched

Last week, a new betting site specially dedicated to maintaining the relevance of ex-presidents was launched. The concept is for Nigerians to bet on which ex-president would make the news per week, and what flowery language he’ll use. Two weeks ago, it was Buhari with “dogs and baboons”, last week it was Obasanjo with “rogues and robbers” in reference to legislators. So who’s next? According to the site, there’s a 2/1 chance that Gowon, the coordinator of Nigeria Prays, would be next with “principalities and powers” in reference to all past leaders.

CROWNED CLOWN (CeeCee) OF THE WEEK

A Pinch would like to share a story. Once, there was a broke man who needed to borrow money. It was raining heavily, but his need could not wait and so he entered into the rain. Alas, when it was time to repay his debt, it was raining too. “I’m sorry I can’t pay my debt because it’s raining,” he said to the lender over the phone.

When Justice Salami was suspended as Appeal Court president by the NJC, Jonathan’s government implemented it even though Salami had instituted a court case. Now, the same NJC has asked that Salami be reinstated and Jonathan says he wouldn’t because there’s a court case. Bello Adoke, the Attorney General, who should give sound legal advice to the president, has ceded his responsibility to partisan airheads, and turned himself into a mouthpiece for falsehood, justifying the unjustifiable. No one needs A Pinch … to tell him the measure of the man who is Goodluck Jonathan. But you should be told that Bello Adoke is a redundant clown. He takes the CeeCee.
