There is palpable fear in the homestead of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, over his failing health
Information reaching us has it that the heavy weight politician has been in a very unhealthy condition for some time and that the situation was being managed by medical experts, only for the condition to get worse last week.
The worsening health condition was what informed his being rushed to England for a better and more intensive medical attention.
He was flown abroad on Wednesday February 8 2012.
Sources attribute the cause of his present state to a partial stroke.
Close source divulged to us that the incident ‘left him bedridden’.
Sources claimed ‘he was shielded from seeing visitors at his Ikoyi home since the happenstance transpired-till he was flown abroad’.
It is believed that the secrecy that pervades the state of health of the powerful personality is meant to protect his political and business empire.
We shall keep you posted as events unfold

PoliticsRe: Police Investigation Fails To Link Kabiru Sokoto With Madalla Bombing by pheesayor(m): 5:04pm On Feb 11, 2012
The Nigerian government may have knowingly, in a bid to stem growing international outcry, misled the public into believing that rearrested Boko Haram suspect, Kabir Sokoto, was the mastermind of the Christmas day bombing that killed dozens in Madalla, according to highly classified details available to Premium Times.
The killings, one of the group’s deadliest before the recent Kano attacks, drew wide international attention which in a way fostered government’s crackdown that led to Mr. Sokoto’s arrest in Abuja weeks later, supposedly, as the brain behind the plotting and the execution of the blast.
But the new details, provided by multiple security sources who are well-informed about operations that have targeted the extremist Islamic sect’s members, and feedbacks passed onto key government officials, cast serious doubt on the administration’s position pinning Mr. Sokoto as the central character behind the attacks.
In all, the details shed light on the high-wired intrigues that surround the Jonathan administration’s dilemma at contending an elusive and deadly radical group that has proven unbeatable, and at the same time winning a diminishing public trust that becomes further alienated with each wave of new attacks.
Mr. Kabiru, acknowledged by the sources as a sponsor of known members of the sect and by extension, a member himself, is only identified in security circles/records as a Boko Haram militant that operated from Kogi State flank.
In the months preceding the Madalla bombings, officials believe that he masterminded some robbery operations in Kabba, Kogi state and led a daring assault on the police station there killing, and carting away ample quantity of arms and ammunition.
He is also known to be the sponsor and host of a certain Suleiman Gambo, alias Babangida, a well marked member of the group who was arrested last year during a joint police operation in Sokoto State.
But besides those connections, no security record or operation has firmly established any link between Mr. Sokoto and the killings at St. Theresa Catholic church, the officials who all spoke under anonymity because of the sensitivity of the subject, say.
“Although the guy himself is a notorious member, there is no report seen of him that cites him as that mastermind,” one official said. “The police knows that, and the government knows that too; but it seems government was desperate to find a face for the crime.”
The church car bomb just outside Abuja, which claimed 44 lives and left many more injured on a Sunday morning millions of Christians across the country were attending church service marking Christmas, startled the nation and sparked global condemnation.
It turned out to be the most widely reported, and known of the group’s attacks across the world, fetching the country and the government in particular, an intense dose of international attention.
In the days that followed, according to the sources, implementing a soothing response would prove intricate for government operatives and policy makers fighting a murky organization with declared targets and tactics, but no known faces, as President Goodluck Jonathan has recently affirmed.
More so, the reliable government’s list of suspects for that crime, compiled from testimonies of captured suspects, targeted intelligence and informants, included just four names that clearly remained outside the radar of law enforcement agents.
Those mentioned were one Suleiman(different from Suleiman Gambo, who is already in police custody), Muhtari Kafanchan, Mohammed, and Bashar.
As of yet, none of the four has been captured.
Any arrest such as that of Mr. Sokoto therefore, would put an identity to the atrocity and help the Jonathan administration ward off mounting pressure that criticized its approach to the crisis, the sources said.
As it turned out, Mr. Sokoto’s initial arrest in January after operatives trailed his mobile phone signal to the Borno state lodge, and his subsequent escape, served a purpose more than envisaged.
For one, it proved the authorities were at work and progress against the sect was being made. However, with the lead actor in the crime at large, investigators could easily proffer justification why a conclusive probe of the case could not be actualized.
Then more importantly, the sacking of the police Inspector General, Hafiz Ringim, and the decision to punish Assistant Commissioner Zakaria Biu - both in connection with the escape- stood to demonstrate the administration’s steadfastness at acting when necessary.
Calls to the police force spokesperson, Olusola Amore, on Tuesday were not answered. He also did not respond to a text message sent to him seeking comments.

PoliticsLead Poisoning: Zamfara Clean-up To Cost $4million by pheesayor(op): 9:44am On Feb 08, 2012
About US$4m is required for an immediate clean-up of the environment to save the lives of thousands of children in the northern Nigerian state of Zamfara where villages have remained contaminated with Lead, the Human Rights Watch has said.

The group in a news conference in Lagos, Tuesday, said that the amount would also cover the implementation of safer mining processes as well as testing and treatment of all children at risk for Lead poisoning.

While launching a new video, 'A Heavy Price: Lead Poisoning and Gold Mining in Zamfara State'; the group stated that the federal government has remained mum on the epidemic which has claimed the lives of more than 400 children, according to official estimates.

Artisanal gold mining - small scale mining done with rudimentary tools - is common in gold-rich Zamfara State.

In 2010, unsafe mining practices in dozens of villages in the state led to the "worst Lead poisoning epidemic in modern history."

Exposed to Danger

Recent findings by Human Rights Watch in Zamfara State showed that children are exposed to Lead dust when they process the ore in the mines, when their miner relatives return home covered with Lead dust, and when the Lead-filled ore is manually or mechanically crushed at home.

"Between 1,500 and 2,000 children under the age of 5 have been exposed to extremely high level of Lead for at least two years," said Babatunde Olugboji, deputy program director at Human Rights Watch.

Healthcare workers in Zamfara told the Human Rights Watch that there have also been high rates of infertility and miscarriage among affected adults.

"There seem to be an issue of mother to child transmission (of the chemical) going on now. This is a very delicate situation," Mr. Olugboji added.

Medical workers in Nigeria reported that the Lead concentration in the Zamfara State ore is so toxic that in 2010, villages like Abare, Dareta, Duza, Sunke, Tungar Daji, Tungar Guru, and Yargalma recorded unprecedented high levels.

"The mortality rate was estimated as high as 40 percent among children who showed symptoms of Lead poisoning," said Mr. Olugboji.

Jane Cohen, a researcher at Human Rights Watch, said that immediate remediation efforts and the co-operation of the federal government are vital to providing a lasting solution.

"Remediation needs to start immediately, before the next rainy season," said Ms. Cohen.

"If remediation begins but is not completed, the rainy season would actually make a dire situation much worse," she added.

The Zamfara State government, in partnership with international organizations like Medecins Sans Frontiers and the United States Center for Disease Control, has treated over 1,500 children with acute Lead poisoning.

However, thousands more children urgently need the life-saving chelation therapy treatment that removes the Lead from the body via urination.

'Uncommitted federal government'

Ms. Cohen said that efforts to get the commitment of the federal government have not been successful.

"There have been several visits from high profile federal government officials but no real commitment," she said.

"We have met with the Minister of Mines and Steel several days ago.

"His response to us was that they know about the situation, but currently the ministry does not have resources to commit to this," said Ms. Cohen.

In the short video, which tries to show the impact of Lead poisoning on the lives of the locals in Zamfara State; Amina, 20, narrates how she lost three of her six children to Lead poisoning.

"By failing to address this epidemic, the Nigerian government is needlessly sacrificing its children," said Mr. Olugboji.

PoliticsRe: Oga Madam Opposition Party Of Nigeria (omopon) by pheesayor(op): 4:14pm On Feb 07, 2012

OP, Brilliant analysis from the writer!

Exposes the hypocrisy of the so-called opposition.

I tell you don't be naive enough to look to them for your salvation. They are no better that the "evil" PDP.

Some of these "opposition" are those who have lost out in the PDP power game and are now "progressives"

Others are deft at making populist statements with their hearts no different from those of the people in government.

One thing I can assure you is that if we allow our current political experience to mature ( this may take time), the electorate will be wiser to discern the antics of these political jobbers who put themselves up as our messiahs.

It may take time, but surely, we will get there!
I just hope Nigerians learn their lessons and wise up before 2015
PoliticsOga Madam Opposition Party Of Nigeria (omopon) by pheesayor(op): 8:20am On Feb 07, 2012
Less than a month ago, Nigerians, in their millions, staged unprecedented protests that shook the foundations of the Nigerian establishment. They were angry with the insensitivity of the PDP-led federal government. And then last Saturday, a gubernatorial election was conducted in Adamawa state, Northern Nigeria, and PDP won. How do we explain that?
But that’s not the end of the puzzle. The man who won the election, Murtala Nyako, was reportedly owing workers in the state as a sitting governor. And on the Election Day, he was returned by the same workers. Again, how do we explain this?
And you may not need to remind me that PDP rigged the election. I don’t rule that out. I know rigging is to PDP what water is to a fish. Yet we must take a look at the figures from INEC:
• PDP – 302986 votes
• ACN – 260405 votes
• CPC – 107564 votes
If we sum up the votes recorded by the two opposition parties, we have a total of 367,969; which bests the PDP number.
Yet again, that doesn’t end the analysis. The election elicited my interest in many ways. The party which took second in that election is ACN, largely considered a Southern based party. By a very wide margin, they overtook the CPC which many analysts, including this writer, had expected to win the election. And as I heard, and saw from his name, the ACN candidate is a Christian, not a Muslim. He had more votes than a party considered North-dominated.
Now I see an area of interest in the whole election. They people seem to have become more conscious. The electorate seems ready. The voting pattern tells me so. They voted PDP out. Those against were more than those for PDP. The real unfortunate scenario is that those to whom the electorate look up for salvation aren’t ready. If they are, then we won’t have PDP winning an election after three weeks of PDP-stirred rage and eruptions.
So what’s the next step? The opposition goes to court. Which court? Nigerian courts. And what do they intend to get from the courts? I don’t know, really.
People were probably given money to vote PDP. It can’t be ruled out. There probably were cases of irregularities. Again, I don’t know. But even if there were, the votes against PDP still were more. Does that tell us anything? The opposition, not our people’s poverty or ignorance, handed down that victory to PDP.
Now let’s even ask: who really owns PDP? I can’t successfully hazard any guess. I could begin by naming up to a hundred people. Before I get done with that, I’ll remember another hundred, and then another hundred and more hundred. I will remember the governors, the ministers, Senators, Commissioners, and thousands of others I don’t know. There are the Local Government chieftains who aren’t even in government. There are the state heavyweights and the national big men in PDP. The party is owned by nobody in particular. It is owned by everybody. It is a gathering of those whose major interest is to lay their hands on Nigeria’s wealth and corner it to themselves, families and friends. PDP is bound by a desire to perpetually feast on whatever Nigeria can cook and bring to the dining table. PDP is a world-class rigging machine. But it is one party where almost everybody has a chance.
On the contrary, who own the other parties trying to take over power from the PDP? In a minute, I can run you through four or five of the opposition parties and the ogas or madams who own them. Each of the other parties have the seal of their owners stamped all over their plans and aspirations. Political parties have become private enterprises of their “owners” who seem very comfortable with PDP’s determination to run Nigeria aground. It does seem as though people are just comfortable with being called the owners of political parties than actually getting into government to offer Nigerians good governance.
Last year, during the elections, millions of Nigerians who didn’t believe in the power of shoes –or lack of them – to provide good governance for any country wished, begged and even prayed for a fruitful alliance or merger between the ACN and CPC. They wished that the leading opposition parties present a common front to confront the PDP rigging machine. What did we get? We got nothing. And why did it not work? They must have loved something else more than they loved Nigeria. And Nigeria could go to blazes so long as that which they loved remained. Well, they got it. But today, we see where that has kept us.
After disappointing their admirers and supporters all over the world, we had expected that some of these parties would, immediately after the elections, commence talks on how to form a formidable opposition using their regional strengths. But that has to be only in the imaginations of naive ones like us who know nothing. I may not be wrong to assume that the parties were probably formed for the sake of anything other than Nigeria. The Adamawa election has passed a clear message to us: in the opposition camp, ego is more important than Nigeria!
Before and during the protests, President Jonathan knew that all he had of the presidency was his first four years in office. His party’s image was brutally battered. The message was clear to him: just do one term and get out. Nobody will consider you for re-election. But with the Adamawa magic, and the fact that PDP will still win (I am certain of this!) in the remaining three of the five states where the governors were sacked, the president might start considering a second term in office. And the opposition, with their “ownership mentality” will lose it again!
We cannot continue with the same strategy and then expect a different result. PDP is evil, we all complain: yet to dislodge them, we set up minor ego-boosting groups and brand them political parties. If we do not latently nurse the ambition of being like PDP in government – or even worse, why haven’t we made the bold step of uniting as the opposition? If we do not feel sincerely that Nigeria’s pathetic situation demands that we bridle our egos and form an invincible coalition, we will remain with a PDP government for as long as Nigeria tarries.
And they’ll say it’s an ideology thing. That’s their alibi. How many people in opposition weren’t once in PDP? And even if there is indeed anything like party ideology in this clime, why don’t we make the rescue of Nigeria the real ideology and then work around it?
The PDP might be evil, but the opposition has to seek tutorials from them on how to not claim “ownership” of anything designed to have a national spread.

IBB, OBJ and GEJ were set to face a firing squad. IBB was the first one placed against the wall and just before the order was given he yelled out, "Earthquake!" The firing squad fell into a panic and He jumped over the wall and escaped in the confusion.

OBJ was the second one placed against the wall. The squad was reassembled and Baba pondered what he had just witnessed. Again before the order was given he yelled out, "Boko Haram, Again the squad fell apart and Baba slipped over the wall.

The last person, GEJ was placed against the wall. He was thinking, "I see the pattern here, just scream out something about a disaster and hop over the wall." He confidently refused the blindfold as the firing squad was reassembled. As the rifles were raised in his direction he grinned from ear to ear and yelled, "Fire!"

EducationDeath Of Student Sparks Violence In Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo by pheesayor(op): 4:29pm On Feb 06, 2012
Students of Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo yesterday went on rampage in response to series of neglect by the school authorities . The invited the police to face students of a private university, this caused the students to go rampage. A female student fainted as a result of tear gas shot at them.
It was said that basic needs of the students have not been provided to them despite paying for everything to the sum of five hundred thousand naira (500,000).
Trouble started when late ABU ELVIS PAUL, complained of a headache was admitted at the health center and placed on medication. His friends asked that he should be taken to a hospital in town but the medical personnel at the university declined, it was suspected that the university  ambulance was faulty that’s why the request was turned down. He later died.
Students gathered around the medical center discussing the regular poor treatment they get at the health center. They complained the health center lacks drugs to treat even malaria and the CMD has told them several times to go buy drugs outside the school despite paying  fifteen thousand naira per semester for medical services.
They also complain about paying high school fees but not getting value for their money, their hostel has power and water issues and most students have claimed to go to class without bathing due to unavailability of water at the hostels,
The VC addressed the students but was unable to calm them down as they went on rampage and started destroying properties, starting with Mercedes 200 car belonging to a lecturer, they went ahead to destroy the CMD’s car and the already spoilt university ambulance.
They then proceeded to set the departments of economics, accounting and banking & finance on fire. They also set on fire a store called “charis store” belonging to the VC’s personal assistant’s wife.
The Vice Chancellor of Ajayi Crowther University is Reverend Canon Professor Kolawole Timothy Jayeoba and the registrar is Dr. Mrs. Josephine Oyebanji.
Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, is owned by The Church of Nigeria, Anglican communion.
The students have been told to go home.

PoliticsDemocracy Or Junta? Sss Bars Journalists From Press Centre by pheesayor(op): 10:47am On Feb 06, 2012
The State Security Service (SSS) and the protocol department attached to the presidential wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, have barred journalists from accessing the press centre used by aviation correspondents.

The SSS and the protocol department claimed they were acting on an instructions from the presidency.

Journalists have used the facility for over 30 years and not even the military regimes shut it down.
Inside sources said the presidency was uncomfortable with certain reports on  VIP movements around the airport, the most recent was a picture showing the Ooni of Ife using a Presidential Jet.
Trouble started Saturday when someone, who identified himself as head of the presidential crew, went into the press centre and told journalist that he had been ordered from the presidency to sack pressmen from the premises.
Heavily armed security personnel yesterday executed the order by denying journalists access to the presidential lounge, where the centre is lokcated.
Pleas by journalists to be allowed to go in and pick up their tools and personal belongings were rebuff  by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) personnel,  insisting that “we have orders from above not to allow you in; it is not our fault.”

PoliticsBoko Haram Begins Manhunt For Members That ‘betrayed’ Abul Qaqa by pheesayor(op): 11:01pm On Feb 05, 2012
Jama'atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda'awati Wal-Jihad, also known as Boko Haram, has started a manhunt for their sect members whom they accuse of conspiring in last week’s arrest of Abul Qaqa.  The punishment is beheading.

As fear has spread within the group, many of its members have fled from such places as Kaduna, Kano and Maiduguri.

Sources say the manhunt began with discreet investigations in Maiduguri, Damaturu, Kano and Kaduna, where Qaqa was captured.

It is focusing particularly on those members who have pitched tent with the splinter group, ‘Ansaru,’ which has empathetically expressed disgust with the manner of operations of Boko Haram, especially the multiple bomb explosions and killings in Kano.
Boko Haram leadership, a source said in Kano, is indeed convinced that Qaqa’s movement to Kaduna was leaked there and subsequently concluded there on account of several disagreements Qaqa encountered in that city from the fall out of the multiple blasts that killed almost 200 people.

Qaqa, it was learnt, was in Kaduna for several reasons, chief of which was to receive reports from Boko Haram’s Kaduna cells, as well as re-strategize and coordinate in response to the fissures within the group.

The three women who were arrested with Qaqa are still being held and interrogated.
Qaqa was born and bred in the North-East by Egbira Muslim parents from Kogi State.

You might have been hearing about the latest youth movement apart from #OccupyNigeria on Twitter, I woke up yesterday morning to check my Time Line on Twitter only to discover that a new born idea of Revolution is being floated.

Now let me break it down for you a little bit so you will know exactly what is involved!!

After so much analysis on the recent #OccupyNigeria Protest Movement,I have come to a conclusion that truly, there lies a possibility of a Peaceful Revolution, I personally have doubted the possibilities of such idea until God used Chinedu Ekeke,a vibrant and outstanding youth to bring about the idea, Now I realize the idea had been lying fallow around the corner waiting for some one to discover it, Though recognising it must have been a task but thank God we are getting there,

If you recall that during the protests, some people died trying to save their country from the so-called members of the Cabal, We as survivors need to keep the fire burning by making sure they didn’t die in vain, Devising a way of taking back Nigeria without violence has proved difficult but Thank God the solution is here…

#20MillionYouthsFor2015 Movement is a Revolution inspired by the urge to present our own representative in the on-coming elections in 2015 as Youths without violence or treason as the case may be, It is about searching for a credible and visionary leader and as well as funding his election campaign with our own money, the target Human Force is 20 Million youths within the ages of 18-45 years or more who will support the campaign with just a thousand Naira,

We promise transparency & accountability on the path of Funds Raising…No dime will be collected from anybody until a solid structure for the movement has been put in place, The funds raising will be the last part of the movement and it will be handle by reputable funds experts,

This movement is not about the money, its about the will power behind the movement, We have had enough of this older generation rubbing our faces with mud of shame…This is the path of PEACEFUL & BLOODLESS REVOLUTION!!!…

The reason we have taking it upon ourselves to sponsor the campaign is because we want to discourage god-fatherism & hijack by potential sponsors/politicians who will want Oil Blocks in return for sponsorship…We don’t want a leader who will be controlled by Religious/Tribal & Traditional Leaders, We want a leader who will recognise the Voice of the People as the Voice of God, We will flood all the arms of Government with Vibrant and Visionary youths who live by Integrity!! Public Offices will be occupied by the common man who is ready to change the bearing of this Nation…

Why I believe this will work is that it is LEGAL, They won’t have any reason to use the Police/Military against us as they did during the #OccupyNigeria Movement, This will catch them unawares because they won’t believe the extent at which we will go to Take Our Motherland Back, This is the making of history,it will be the first of its kind in the world, The world will be shocked by this movement, The #20MillionYouthsFor2015 Movement is gathering momentum, If we start now,we will be Unstoppable by the year 2015,

Please don’t be left out…To participate,Send a blank mail with the subject; “Taking Back Nigeria” to nedunaija@gmail.com…For further details follow @ekekeee & @bosszangaruwa

PhonesCourt Orders Airtel Nigeria To Reverse Name To Econet Wireless by pheesayor(op): 8:01pm On Jan 30, 2012
SAN FRANCISCO, January 30, (THEWILL) - On the 24th January 2012, in the Federal High Court of Nigeria, the Honorable Justice Shuaib, handed down judgment in the matter between Econet Wireless Ltd ('EWL') vs. Bharti Airtel Nigeria Limited, suit No FHC/KD/39/2008 (Formerly FHC/L/172/2004).

The summary of the judgment is as follows:

-- Econet Wireless Ltd, an international company, domiciled in the United Kingdom, is a shareholder of Bharti Airtel Nigeria Limited and holds 5% of the issued shares of the company. The Court ordered Airtel to reinstate the shareholding of EWL.

-- The Court ordered that all actions, and resolutions taken by the company, since October 2003, at which EWL was entitled to be notified, and to participate in, as a shareholder, but was prohibited, are null and void. This includes decisions to sell shares, issue shares, and also transfer shares to third parties.

-- The Court also ordered that the name change from Econet Wireless Nigeria Limited, effected in 2003, was irregular, and must be reversed forthwith.

-- The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has been ordered to cancel any certificate previously issued for the change of the name of the company and restore the name of the company to Econet Wireless Nigeria Limited.

As a result of the judgment by the Honorable Justice Shuaib, Econet Wireless Limited through its lawyers has now written to the company, with the following requests:

-- Immediately reissue shares in the company to Econet to reinstate its 5% interest.

-- Provide Econet full access to information relating particularly to board decisions and shareholder resolutions in accordance with the Companies Act, the shareholders agreement between the parties and in pursuance of the orders of the Federal High Court of Nigeria.

Econet Wireless intends to review the decisions taken by the board and other shareholders to ascertain which actions are in violation of the order of the High Court.

Commenting on the decision, Econet Wireless Group Chairman - Mr Strive Masiyiwa said:
"It is universally accepted throughout the world, that when shares in a company are allotted and share certificates issued, as confirmation of ownership, this is sacrosanct.

"In October 2003, Econet Wireless Ltd received a letter from the chairman of the company - Mr Oba Otudeko, in which he advised that at a board meeting directors had decided that Econet Wireless was no longer a shareholder, Econet's share certificate had been cancelled, and Econet's name removed from the shareholder register. The motive for this unprecedented action was the circumvention of Econet Wireless' rights as a shareholder in order to facilitate the sale of shares, first to Celtel International, and later to Bharti Airtel.

"As a result of these actions, Econet Wireless was left with no option but to seek redress through the courts. An application was filed in the Nigerian Federal High Court in October 2003, more than eight years ago. Since then, every legal avenue to delay the process was pursued by the defendants through their lawyers, in order to frustrate Econet Wireless.

"I am very disappointed that whilst it was clear to Celtel, Zain and Bharti-Airtel that Econet Wireless was a shareholder, they still chose to pursue a path, in which the end justified the means. It is clear even to those with the most basic understanding of company law that the board of a company has no power in any jurisdiction to simply cancel the shares of a shareholder but their desire to own the company was so great that they were prepared to overlook the facts and ignore our rights

"The substance of this ruling, which was known by Celtel and then Bharti, was a matter of record in the legal documents of the company. It is also common cause to even the casual reader that the order given has far-reaching consequences on the current ownership status of the company.

We have made it clear to the company, that as a shareholder, we would like to ensure that all actions that must be taken to comply with the Court order are undertaken in such a way that there is minimal disruption to the ongoing operations of the company.

"The board of Econet Wireless and I remain willing to sit down with Bharti-Airtel, to review the best way forward for all parties. In the meantime, we have a fiduciary responsibility to take all of the necessary steps to vigorously protect the interests of our shareholders." Source: www.econetwireless.com.

Meanwhile, Airtel mid Monday in an emailed statement to THEWILL after our earlier publication said it would appeal the judgement.

“In the light of the judgment by the Federal High Court of Nigeria regarding Econet Wireless Limited’s (EWL) claim to the ownership of 5% equity in Airtel Networks Limited (Airtel Nigeria), an appeal against the said judgment has been filed by Airtel Nigeria. The Company abides by and has full confidence in the law of the land, and believes the Appeal Court will determine the appeal on its merits.

“In addition, the judgment will have no impact on the equity holding of other shareholders in Airtel Nigeria.

“We wish to assure our customers, employees and business partners that the ruling will in no way affect operations or the company’s ability to fulfill obligations to its stakeholders."

CrimeTaraba State Gov Convoy Kills Edward Kokobili, Groom To Be by pheesayor(op): 6:41pm On Jan 26, 2012
It was a sad end for 38-year-old Eddy Kokobili on Monday as the convoy of Taraba State Governor Dambaba Suntai ran over and killed him along the International Airport Road, Abuja.

Edward, who was Head, Feed Addictives, Agrochemicals & Veterinary Products, Vitacem Nigeria Ltd, had gone to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for his introduction to his in-laws-to-be prior to his wedding in February.

An eyewitness said the late Kokobili had successfully completed the prenuptials and was on his way back to Lagos when the incident occurred between 9:00 and 9:30 am on the ever busy Airport Road.

Sources said that the convoy was rushing to the airport to pick the governor who had arrived earlier in the morning but due to a breakdown in logistics, was stranded. But the aides in a bid to get to the governor on time had encountered serious traffic due to checkpoints on the road, as security operatives conducted stop and search checks against the backdrop of Boko Haram menace.

The convoy had abandoned the highway and taken to the sidewalk on high speed, and just about 150 meters to the airport toll gate, the convoy crushed to death Kokobili.
Kokobili, who died on the spot, was on his way to the airport when the cab he was travelling in got stuck in traffic and so in a bid to catch his flight due for 10:30 am, had disembarked and was about to board an ‘okada’ commercial motorcyclist, before the pilot SUV, a Nissan Armada, in the governor’s convoy killed him Kokobili.
A police officer, Cecilia Metu, had called the last number on the deceased’s phone log and spoken with one Mr. Kenneth, who identified the victim as Kokobili.

Attempts to speak to the deceased’s family in Festac Town, Lagos were not successful as the siblings were inconsolable. Kokobili’s elder brother, Innocent pleaded with this reporter to be left alone. “Please, please, leave me alone. I can’t talk now,” he pleaded, mopping tears off his face.

The late Edward was an active member of the Festac Grammar School Alumni

Are you suffering from acute ding of malaria? The blogger you represented was lecturing people about disintegration and session while you seemed misguidedly latched on marginalization and inconsequential political positions in the cesspit called Nigeria.

You can deliberately shove the political positions in Nigeria for all I care. I had wished you publish and archive all the response to this thread. Also you can be a Nigerian first, second and third, I do not give damnable hoot.

Ndigbo had expressed enough desire to secede from the colonial accident called Nigeria. Personally, there are many drooling dingbats in Nigeria who are not worthy to share nationality with me.

Variables do not make erroneously formulated equation correct. Nigeria is wrongly configured and must be deconstructed. The so-called Igbo governors and officials you happily mentioned were product of dysfunctional Nigeria.
so much anger, what exactly is your point then?
PoliticsRe: Why Secession Is Not The Solution To Nigeria's Problem by pheesayor(op): 10:24am On Jan 20, 2012
I'll post a general response to these, to the best of my knowledge.

I'm a yoruba boy but I see myself as a Nigerian first.

In all the years the igbos have claimed to be marginalised, has there not been one or two igbos among the top posts in this country?
What have they done to the igbo struggle?
Every igbo state has a governor, what have they done about these complains over the years and what have they done to develop their regionhuh

My point is, our common enemy is corruption/wicked leaders who keep coming back and until we fight that secession will never work.
Ojo Maduekwe has been in government / a minister for as far back as I can remember, who has felt his impact. Lots more like this

I stand corrected

Controversial blogger and twitter personality Dada Oluwasegun @bosszangaruwa held a tweet meet session last night on why secession is not the solution to Nigeria’s problem as widely claimed by some people. Full compilation below.

This tweet lecture became necessary because of the situation of things in country and the orientation of some tweeps on here.
Secession means to withdraw formally from an alliance, federation, or association, as from a political union. In the Nigerian sense, the first attempt at secession first occurred during the Nigerian civil war. The igbos decided to secede to form Biafra republic due to ethnic and religious tensions among the various peoples of Nigeria.
Our problems won't, can't and will never be solved by secession! Our problem is bad leadership! Leaders that won't listen, they say the south south owns the oil, and its the wealth of Nigeria! Don't be deceived, God deposited the oil there. Nobody has a right to claim the natural resources deposited by God, it was deposited for our common wealth.
Most of our food comes from the North, other natural resources come from the south, we need one another to survive!
Politicians created this problems, they need us divided to mask their kleptomaniac tendencies. Divide and conquer always works.
Even among the Yorubas, Igbos and Hausas there is division, the Yoruba man for example. Hausa: even among the hausas, there exists Kanowa, Kaduanawa etc! Division everywhere! Ibos: the man from Rivers or Bayelsa state will hate to be referred to as an Igbo man, and it goes on and on.
We need understanding, all our lives we have been fighting ourselves, we need to identify a common enemy. The common enemy here is not the Hausa, Igbo or Yoruba man, the common enemy is the corrupt leadership.
Imagine who the leaders will be if God forbid there is a secession? Same of same, criminals, enemies of the people. Oduduwa republic: imagine the Alao akala, fani kayode, iyiola omisore, tinubu, bode george etc, ruling d nation.
Niger Delta republic; the peter odilis, james ibori, uduagahn, alamesyisgha, etc ruling the nation. Arewa republic: imagine the abacha kids, IBB, adamu ciroma, abdusalam abubakar, Sambo etc as the image of the new nation.
What we should work towards is a new Nigeria, the #occupyNigeria movement has shown that possible. People of different ethnicity and religion working to achieve a single goal #AnewNigeria. Yes its possible.

I fully participated in the version in my area tagged #occupyamuwo, the first day brought all of us together. Some of us met on twitter and some of us met right there on the spot. We were driven by a single goal and we spoke with one voice.
It continued the second day but ambitious policemen fired tear gas at us.
The third day got bigger when the indigenes of the area got us a stage and a deejay as a way to encourage us to keep the good work we started. It went like that till friday with all artistes living around there coming to perform and speak against subsidy removal, we also attracted the media and labour was there on the third day to speak to us
Overall it was an eye opener and I made new friends with similar goals and we will continue in our own way, we are planning something bigger.
I communicate frequently with my new friends and we will tackle the ills around us while waiting for the gains from this current government (if there is any)

It is no more news that the Nigerian government removed fuel subsidy on the 1st of January, it is also no more news that Nigerians have rejected the act and the the government is being stubborn and not listening to the people. We have taken to the streets and there is no going back till government listens to us. Occupy Nigeria started and it has been helped by organised labour making people stay at home.

The Gani Fawehinmi memorial park has been parked full since monday, we the youths of Amuwo Odofin, comprising of Festac, Agboju, Satellite town and its environs also started our own version for those who can't make it to ojota due to the restriction in movement.

It has been three days and we are waxing stronger with support from law enforcement agencies and the masses. Below are pictures from the first three days.

Today we had artistes like Sound Sultan, Baba Dee, W4, Rocksteady, Blackface naija. We are waxing stronger in our struggle and we won't relent in our efforts
