I’m talking to Opobo people who call me nwanne. And when I speak my language to them, they reply in the same language to me. Even when I tell them we don’t relate, they still find means to say “Dede hapu okwu”. Only an Opobo and Bonny man can understand what I wrote not you. I am from Rivers state, don't come and tell us who we are. |

That guys comment that Opobo is aligned to the igbos really pained you. It rubbishes your earlier claim that Opobo has no igbo linkage. Thank God you are not from opobo It is obvious you have comprehension issues! The Imo river was an Ijaw enclave till the British imported you(Igbo) in to do their menial jobs. Like I have always told you guys, Igbos in Nigeria are a creation of the British colonial system. |

bigfish3k: Hmnm You are here already fighting igbos You can't change that history of Jaja being an igbo man Who cares if Jaja was an ex slave of Igbo descent or an Ijaw who left the Imo area due to Igbo incursion? If 400 years later the Igbo decide to identify as Ijaw slaves I have no problem with that! Selling your young men and women for snuff and mirrors. Why should I be bothered? The value for your kinfolk was snuff, mirrors second clothes from Ijawland. You got paid for the value you placed on your people. We treated them so well that even when they had the option to return they refused to return to Igboland and 400 years later you are ranting because people were treated way better than NdiIgbo could treat them. There is no history of Jaja being an Igbo man except the fictitious history in the minds of Igbos. The evidence we have was that Jaja migrated from Bonny to present day Opobo which was an island owned by an Ijaw clan. His migrated with other Ijaw chiefs. At the time migration Jaja was a chief like the others. |

Well, he is actually right. And if there’s any group in Rivers coastal that still share a form of kinship with the Igbos, its the Opobo man. The federal government had already approved the establishment of a sea port in Bonny Island. Opobo came late to the party, unless they would be an extension of the port facility in Opobo which might still be a win-win situation. None of us share kinship with you Igbos! Why can't you be on your own? Focus on your five landlocked Igbo states. |

Go find your inferior likes like the Kanuri to play with, I consider it an insult to even bring myself low to engage a mere Ijaw, absolute waste of my time. Neither Ijaw or Kanuri are your contemporaries. If not for Nigeria an Ijaw will not engage in a debate with you. Prior to Nigeria the only discussion we had with Igbos was tobacco their kinfolk were worth before a transaction took place. If you knew the history of the Kanuri or Ijaw you wouldn't try to mention those ethnic nations in your bid to further highlight your inferiority. When the Kanuri had embassies in places like Sudan you weren't recognized as an ethnic group not to talk cross border recognition. When the Ijaw had embassies and representative offices in some parts of Europe, Igbos had not learnt to organize themselves as hamlets not to talk of communities. Thank Britain for giving you a status you never would have achieved on your own and stop being cocky. Ijaw are not your mates! |

IDENNAA: This post is filled with ignorance and jealousy. Ijaw is a very little group with a minute recognition in Niger Delta. The northerners doesn't even know you existed until militancy. There is nothing significant about Ijaw, honestly. These comparisons of Ijaw to Igbo is simply unfair because you can't measure up to little Obosi or Onicha before we bring the Igbo nation.
For instance, two Igbos has won African footballer of the Year for men , an Igbo woman won the female category like five times. An Igbo woman won the first Olympic gold medal, an Igbo man won't the first African gold medal in common wealth games. Where do I even start...look at Hollywood , Nollywood , Music industry , Academics etc.
It's an insult to compare Igbo to Ijaw....an insult. The most respected African writers are mostly Igbos. Smh. Go drink kaikai , abeg The Fulani you fear is much smaller than the Ijaw nation so size doesn't necessarily matter. Nigeria has a global entertainment industry thanks to the works of Ijaw men like Uriel Paul Worika, Sam Dede and an Ogoni man, Ken Saro-Wiwa. Most of the so called Nollywood stars were lectured and nurtured by Sam Dede. Paul Worika was the first Nigerian to go on a global tour with his artistic troupe. The likes of Zulu Adigwe, Nkem Owoh etc came to limelight through the works Ken Saro-Wiwa and Uriel Paul Worika. Flavour came to limelight stealing an Ijaw man's song. Nigeria's first indigenous journalist/ media mogul was Ijaw, Nnamdi Azikiwe learnt under him. When Nigeria is ready to do things the right way when it comes to football , you will see many of our players. We don't compromise our standards and ethics. It is no coincidence Nigeria's first foreign based professional was Ijaw. The list is endless. It would be a slap on our history, heritage and standards to make that comparison. It is like comparing light with darkness. Go and sniff snuff! |

Which Ijaw personality dead or alive can measure up to Chinua Achebe... that's just one name oooo, mention that Ijaw icon that commands the same global panache as Achebe. I won't even bother myself with a list of Igbo achievers, your pathetic fisherman brains will run away from this thread. Achebe was referred for displaying the primitive aspects of Igbo culture. If you even mentioned Cyprian Ekwensi I would have taken you serious. We had writers like J.P. Clark and Ola Rotimi. I talked about those shaped/created Nigeria's legal profession and her banking industry. If you could not appreciate the meaning of the word first or if you couldn't understand the meaning how did you want to appreciate quality literature? Literary experts do not refer to Achebe while discussing African literature because he did not follow the rules of writing African literature neither did he adhere to the rules of English prose. There is a reason rap and poetry isn't the same. Even though you shifted the post, Igbo people do not have an exceptional writer of African literature dead or alive. The closet to that was Cyprian Ekwensi. I am not surprised you avoided the legal and banking profession. Not even your beloved father, Nnamdi Azikiwe could escape the tutelage of Ijaw people. Igbos are fond of burning bridges people let them cross or bite the fingers that feed them. |

I repeat that you would have been better off with the igbos who are your neighbors with similarities in cultures and beliefs. Igbo man wouldn't have ravaged you the way these fulanis are doing to you because Igboland have oil and gas too unlike the north that has no drop of it. And also The land area to be developed in the whole of the SE is very small compared to the unending gigantic land mass that your oil is used to develop in the north and west. Its good to know that you agreed that that nomenclature "South south" does not exist. In the map igbos are artificially restricted to the middle and the efik/Ibibio are in the east including some Ijaws. From what you know about maps, where do you classify igbos since the efiks have occupied the east and you people occupied the south. The igbos can therefore swing in either pendulum and be called south east. So we are attached forever by God. You can't recreate it
How do you know that something you didn't give a try will not work. If you say aburi didn't solve anything, are we now in a better solution? And why is everybody crying for restructuring.
But everybody and every political leaders then signed the aburi accord Everything we suffer today is all thanks to Ojukwu. I don't care if those with oppressive tendencies are Igbo, Fulani, Yoruba or anything else. They won't be tolerated, period! We are the South and it is up to you Igbo to know your place. What we know is that we don't share the South with us. From our perspective the North is you(Igbo). You are North of us. |

bigfish3k: King Jajas igbo name is Mbanaso Okwaraozurumba from umuduruoha in amaigbo village in imo state.
No matter the recent twisting of history that you all want to do because of igbo hatred. These below facts are established and are true : 1.igbo slaves were trafficked through bonny 2.. King Jaja was a slave 3 king Jaja was indoctrinated into being ijaw from an igbo. 4.King Jaja was later freed therefore returning him to be his natural igbo 5.king Jaja had a quarrel with the pepples 6.king Jaja left with his people to find the opobo kingdom. 7.king Jaja is therefore an igbo man because it was the igbos that were trafficked as slaves and king happens to be a slave 8.if Jonathan hadn't come to prominence we wouldn't have known that even Ijaws outside opobo answer igbo names like Ebele. So there is nothing like figment of imagination Ijaws in Opobo don't bear Igbo names, neither do Ijaws outside Opobo. Goodluck Jonathan's middle name is Ijaw and not Igbo! Some of you confuse Ijaw names for Igbo names. These names have different meanings to us. There was no time Jaja left Bonny as an Igbo man or anything else. He left Bonny as an Ibani man. Opobo was established as an Ibani kingdom. Opobo was created by Ibani people and not one individual. Other Ijaw people gave the land and it was with the aid of other Ijaw city states Opobo gained recognition. There's no evidence to prove Jaja was of Igbo descent. He could be Ijaw, Ogoni, Ibibio or Igbo. The truth is no evidence to prove he was Igbo. All of that is pure speculation. |

Ijaws has never outnumbered these two ethnic group let alone ahead.
been in 3 states doesn't signify population strength afterall the core ijaw state isn't up to a million while others are shared with various ethnicities.
That alone deflates any logic of ijaw been the 4th largest ethnicity.
That data should go to Tiv/kanuris.
Then as for 6th is under contention I insist between Ijaws and Urhobos. Technically " the core Ijaw state" is my home state, Rivers and yes, we have always had more people than all those people you mentioned. Why is population important in Nigeria if not for Ijaw oil wealth? Abeg chill! |

The abandoned property in P/H your people championed and cornered when Ndigbo were down will always remind us how evil your people can be. A payback time is coming and it will be carried out to the fullest, especially as you clowns keep pushing yourselves to the point of non-forgiveness. Be it in the next 50 years it will happen. Who are you deceiving Tonye? You want us to apologize on what exactly? If for any reason the Igbos have in act and deed shown true brotherhood to your ungrateful bitches and yet you always vilify us at any given opprtunity. Ndigbo are beginning to wise up, and just like the two other major tribes that don’t give a shit about you people, we are beginning to toe the same step. Many of our people nowadays because of the stupidity of some Ijaws the likes of Tutudez, Magicbishop, Truckpusher, BigbabyJesus and yourself Tonye are regretting the massive support we’ve been giving you animals. From the Abacha conference, to supporting amnesty, resource control and down to GEJ. Keep acting stupid, we are still keeping records for the judgement day. You are the one talking stupidly! What you voted GEJ doesn't mean we owe you Biafra or anything. You voted him because you believed he was the better man. The same way you voted Fulani like late Shagari and Yar'Adua or Yoruba like Obasanjo. The same way you voted Atiku in 2019. You can't hold us hostage for choices you made, Ijaw people didn't ask for Nigeria's presidency. They asked for laws that would preserve, protect their environment, laws that will enable them provide for their families. What you call "abandoned property " was a decision made by Nigerian government after series of complaints were made in connection with properties illegally acquired by Igbos during the defunct eastern region and in the course of the 30 year war. People like Achuzia of the Biafran army murdered a prominent Ijaw man in Port Harcourt in his bid to steal his property. That we don't talk doesn't mean we don't know all the evil you guys did. On 4th should be placed Tiv, kanuris...before Ijaw and Ibibio under contention should set in. Official figures state that, many of you don't even know who is Ijaw yet you try to define her. Ibibio are only in Akwa Ibom. Even if you add the Annang and Efiks to them it is only Akwa/Cross. As Ijaw we are found in Akwa Ibom, Edo, Ondo, Delta, Rivers and Bayelsa. The largest Ijaw clan happens to be in Rivers state. Tiv people are only found in two senatorial districts in Benue state. Our Urhobo neighbours are larger than all the other groups you mentioned. Bkayyy: First of all, you are not Nigeria fourth largest ethnicity. The Fulani are. And you are not even in the fifth, sixth and seventh position. There are ethnic groups called Kanuri and Ibibio. Secondly, in cases of a referendum for secession. It is carried out by external committee which is UN like the cases of Eritrea and South Sudan. Thirdly, Asari Dokubo is a notable person from ijaw land and his speeches can't be taking lightly because he has alot of supporters like MNK. Though it doesn't mean that he can cast more than one vote in the referendum. In truth he just one Voice but people take him more serious than comments from a faceless forum Then lastly, to settle the case of assumption. As a civilized society that you call Ijaws , the only way to know the will of the people is by vote casting. As simple as that except if you people are feudal like the Caliphate. Even the Caliphate still handouts the fear of the uprising of the people which is the reason why they tend to keep quiet if matters like this are presented to them about their subjects this is also why most monarchs in Eastern region keep quiet about things like this and tend not to render comments when it is presented to them. And don't tell me the words of governors because in truth, sociology and politics they are just mere mouthpiece of the Country they are elected to serve and they don't represent the interests and decisions of the people in things like this just like Pontus Pilate of Judea Ijaw is Nigeria's fourth largest ethnic group and there is nothing Ijaw haters and enemies like you can do about it! Like I told you, there is no connection between the Ijaw and Igbo. Ijaw even have more in common with the Yoruba if one judges from a historical perspective. That notwithstanding, we are large enough to be on our own. I wonder why some of you are so obsessed with Ijaw people. We don't want! If we are casting vote it would be as Ijaw people. To remain in Nigeria or not! Why are you Igbo afraid of being a country? Why all these attempts to attach yourselves to others? Bkayyy: The same way Asari your notable son has made his wish? Oga speak for yourself alone like I do and leave the "we" You can't fool people of this generation. Referendum is simply voting The reason why you are against it is that you dear that majority of your people will accept to be part of Biafra. If it is not the reason then tell me your fear 1. Nigeria has NEVER conducted a free and fair election with positive outcome 2. It is not duty of Nnamdi Kanu or any other Igbo to determine the fate of Ijaw people. If Ijaw people want referendum or anything else they how to go about it. 3. Asari-Dokubo spoke in his capacity as a private citizen. The INC and IYC which are the bodies that represent Ijaw have reiterated our position on Biafra. 4. Ijaw society is a civilised and organized society with structures in place. Chief Asari-Dokubo cannot singlehandedly decide the fate of his clan not to talk of the entire Ijaw nation. Besides he interpretes where, who and what is Biafra differently. 5.If there would be a referendum it would definitely not be about Biafra. As Nigeria's fourth largest ethnic group we don't see the benefits of joining Nigeria's 3rd largest group. |
