Politics › Deny Peterside Access To Electoral Materials, Wike Tells Tribunal by philips70(op): 5:39pm On Jun 23, 2015 |
Rivers State Governor and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the April 11, 2015 governorship election, Nyesom Wike, has asked the state governorship election petition tribunal sitting in Abuja, to bar the rival All Progressives Congress and its candidate in the election, Dr. Dakuku Peterside, to inspect the electoral materials used for the poll.
Peterside and the APC had on May 3, 2015, filed their petition before the tribunal challenging Wike’s victory at the poll.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, Wike and the PDP are the respondents to the petition. The Justice Muazu Pindiga-led tribunal had on June 11, 2015 granted an ex parte order permitting the petitioners to personally or through their lawyers or forensic expert inspect the electoral materials used for the poll.
But, through a motion dated June 16, 2015 filed on his behalf by his lawyer , Emmanuel Ukala (SAN), Wike asked the tribunal to set aside the ex parte order for the inspection of the electoral materials, particularly the voters register and the card reader machines.
He argued that allowing the petitioners to have access to the card reader machines and the voters register in a manner that would allow them to make copies and store their contents electronically could compromise the secrecy of the ballot.
He added that it could pose security concerns as the materials sought to be inspected by the petitioners contained “highly sensitive security information containing the biometric data of all registered voters in Nigeria.” http://www.punchng.com/news/deny-peterside-access-to-electoral-materials-wike-tells-tribunal/Only in Rivers Nigeria criminals seek perpetual injunctions from prosecution. Now they have come again. |

It beats me how you expect civility from characters who ordinarily without being told are not well brought up and will surely be insulting their parents at home. These are the stock that beat up parents. Allow them show themselves, it doesn't affect the shape of things one inch. Data is very cheap now you should also know. |

If Buhari had announced some kleptomaniacs the very day he was sworn in these same characters would have created like a million threads dissecting and condemning him. One thing am just happy about is it seems the man wants to do his job without any undue pressure from anyone. Focus is all we need at the moment. That is what the last government lacked. All they tried to do had a political undertone and had eyes on the next elections even when it seemed faraway. Some inconsistent leaders would have been stampeded into naming a cabinet with all the media pressures since 29th May. His not saying anything and taking his time tells me something good is in the offing. We have no choice but to wait. |

onatisi: bros you have raised a very crucial issue and debate ,but I will just summaries it up ,I have always said it that the problem with nigeria isn't the ppl, leaders or politicians But the societal system and political system we are using. Show me the most corrupt and inefficient governor in nigeria and I will tell u that if u put that same governor in an environment or system that doesn't initiate or encourage inefficiency or corruption that same governor will be the best governor. The question now is why is it so? It is only so because institutions which are supposed to check corruption are more corrupt than the culprits themselves. The whole land is filthy. Our value system is corruption friendly, weak and corrupt institutions very strong individuals. Sundry reasons my brother. |

Only gullible ppl will believe that nigerians politicians or leaders actually go into government to change the lives of the masses. The bitter truth here is pdp and apc are exactly the same thing, You may agree with this or not but I see Buhari and his vice as the only people who genuinely have a mission of rescue in the whole bunch of politicians we have in power at the moment. |

modath: I will never understand why 469 people feel entitled to 25% of the overhead budget of a country of 170million people...
As crazy as these amounts are though, a large chunk of the 150bn annual budget is still left unaccounted for,the devil in that detail is the constituency allowance that no LAW enpowers them to collect on behalf of their states/local govt areas, it is an usurpation of the duty of the executive arm of govt by those blood sucking leeches!!
Now this is the point I have been shouting both on Twitter. We are hitting the wrong nail. To me the salaries and allowances are fair enough since its just a 4 year job. We are talking about a budget of N150b now reduced to N120b here. These salaries and allowances just amount to about N7b+. The evil is in constituency projects. It should be stopped! Legislature has no business executing projects. Their job is making laws! But am surprised as usual with Nigerians and bandwagon effect everyone is shouting jumbo salaries and allowances. They are just laughing at us. Very soon you will hear they have agreed to 80% reduction and Nigerians will clap as they are clapping for the governors. Is it salaries and allowances these political class are using to buy exotic cars and building posh homes? I wonder when we will install sense in this country. The political class is just fucking us left, right and centre. |

Truckpusher: Why would you be titled towards any genuine sentiment when all you've known your life is to load freely at the expense of others ,even their environment ? Time is about to be up and we must sit down and talk or we go the hard way . Whichever way, it's entirely your call because it is almost as if we've got nothing to lose anymore. It gets to a point in any man's life that he will stand up for himself and say that enough is enough. These youths that Badeh wants to bomb are just weak victims too. Once again I tell you am a free born of the ND and have never lived outside the ND in Nigeria except for schooling and work purposes. It still doesn't add up to me that some youths can only see life of crime as the only means to survival in the same region many are still becoming responsible and successful citizens. The ND is still part of Nigeria and no government will fold it's arms and watch anyone sabotage or cause any form of harm to its installations. Question is why are our elites not part of these agitations? Why do they get to Abuja or government houses and all of a sudden forget there is a people to be freed from oppression? Why is it all left in the hands of miscreants? |

Truckpusher: You're a damned liar from the pit of hell because even the most ignorant of the Niger Deltans feel my pains.
Back to making sense from your bloody lies .Does what happened and is still happening justify how the resources and their environment of the Niger Delta people has been and is being managed ? Why the deprivation and subjugation ? Are we not one people ? Have we faulted ever since this union started ? Are we not the same black people? What exactly did we do wrong to deserve all that suffering, oppression, denial, looting, killings, maiming ,and total destruction of our ecosystem? If your conscience is clean tell me if Nigeria wasn't built on a structure of subjugation and falsehood . Am sorry but for some reasons my mind frame is just not tilted to these sentiments and totally lost on those bolded. And finally what have we done with the trillions that have accrued to us in the last 16years? Especially Bayelsa state. |

Truckpusher: I never told you I was a criminal. I can't be a criminal because where I come from and in my ancient household it's a curse to be a criminal - My family lineage are honourable and proud people they can't birth a criminal. But right now stand up for what is just and right, then tell me if what has happened and in still happening in the Niger Delta is justified. I merely used the tax to bait your hypocritical mindset but since you claim to be whiter than snow .Pray, tell , what has the Niger Delta people done to deserve what the Nigeria state has done to them and is still doing it them and their environment? Last time I checked am a bona fide Niger Deltan both hands and legs. Last time I also checked the sons of Niger Delta have done equal damage and shortchanged us from what the Nigerian state in their"magnanimity" agreed to give to us since 1999. Be truthful to yourself, even if we have 100% control the elites will still feed fat while the commoners will continue to suffer. The budget of the Niger Delta states combined dwarfs that of many countries. What do we have? Richer politicians and poorer people. When we conquer our greedy few the rest part of the country will get to take us seriously. |

It is noteworthy that apart from the routine greater TRANSPARENCY under Jonathan involving our APC senators & representativeshe also ordered additional forensic audit despite the NASS members saying all was ok.
As you rightly said our preference for shallow, unproductive meaningless paparazzi corruption fight as opposed to scientifically SYSTEMATIC far reaching attack on the national malaise led to most of us not appreciating Jonathan's better efforts at moving our country FORWARD on all fronts. If GEJ was not a common thief whose only plan was to continue with whatever fraud that's in NNPC what stopped him in 5 years from probing and combating the fraud? If GEJ fought corruption and we are talking about 7T deficit then we wonder how much it would have been if he didn't at all. TI must be feeling duped at the moment. |
