Politics › Ezekwesili: Stop Calling The Predator Amina Ali's "Boko Haram Husband" by PhockPhockMan(op): 7:19pm On May 19, 2016 |
A former Minister of Education and #BringBackOurGirls activist, Obiageli Ezekwesili, has warned the media to stop referring to the ‘predator’ that violated abducted Chibok girl, Amina Ali, as her ‘Boko Haram husband’.
The former minister disclosed this in a post on her Twitter handle where she rhetorically asked if the media did not know that ‘Amina Ali’s parents’ did not give her out for marriage’.
Her tweets: “From now I shall call out any media house that says or writes ‘her Boko Haram husband’ for that ‘predator’ that violated Amina Ali. Get ready.
“Does the media not know that #AminaAli’s parents did not give her out for marriage? She’s a victim of abduction and sexual violence.” The rescued girl and her parents met President Muhammadu Buhari at the presidential villa in Abuja on Thursday. Details of the meeting is sketchy at this time.

Foreign Affairs › Putin, Daesh Would Welcome Britain Exit From EU , Cameron Claims. by PhockPhockMan(op): 5:50pm On May 17, 2016 |
British Prime Minister David Cameron has claimed that Russian President Vladimir Putin and Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the self-proclaimed leader of Daesh (ISIL), would welcome Britain leaving the European Union. Cameron made the remarks to reporters on Tuesday following a speech at Mansion House organized by the World Economic Forum, which was aimed at bolstering arguments for remaining in the EU. The prime minister has previously warned that leaving the EU, known as Brexit, could play into the hands of Britain’s enemies. However, this was the first time he claimed the Daesh terrorist group would be “happy” to see the UK leave the 28-member bloc. Cameron was responding to criticisms of a speech he made last week in which he said Britain’s exit from the EU would increase the risk of another world war. “I never said if we leave on Thursday, World War Three breaks out on Friday,” he said. However, Cameron then said “Putin might be happy, I suspect al-Baghdadi might be happy.” “Our friends around the world are giving us a very clear message, they are saying 'it's all up to you, it is your sovereign choice,’” he added. The claim will lend more credence to allegations of fear-mongering by Brexit campaigners, who argue leaving the EU would give Britain greater control over its borders. Both camps have highlighted the ramifications of leaving or remaining in the EU for national security against threats of terrorism. The “Remain” campaign contends that pan-European security networks including Europol and the European Arrest Warrant help keep Britain safe and an exit would take away that advantage. Boris Johnson, former London mayor and leader of the “Leave” campaign, has discredited Cameron's EU negotiations as “meaningless.” Johnson himself was accused of “crossing the boundaries” after he compared the EU’s unifying agenda to Adolf Hitler's plans for domination of the continent. EU President Donald Tusk said Johnson has “political amnesia” for making such a comparison. “When I hear the EU being compared to the plans and projects of Adolf Hitler I cannot remain silent,” he said at a press conference in Copenhagen, Denmark, on Tuesday. “Such absurd arguments should be completely ignored if they hadn’t been formulated by one of the most influential politicians in the ruling party,” Tusk said. Johnson argued over the weekend that the EU was creating a super-state that mirrors the attempt of the Nazi leader. Tusk’s intervention is significant as the EU’s most senior figures have been keeping a low profile in the campaign despite their anti-Brexit stance. Britons will vote on June 23 to decide on their country’s future in the European Union. http://www.presstv.ir/Detail/2016/05/17/466100/UK-Brexit-Cameron-Daesh-Putin |
Politics › Benue: Governor Says State Under Siege, Orders Herdsmen Out. by PhockPhockMan(op): 5:15pm On May 17, 2016 |
Apparently miffed by the incessant attacks on farmers in Benue State by suspected Fulani herdsmen, the state governor, Samuel Ortom, yesterday raised the alarm that the state is under siege.
The governor, who was reacting to the weekend’s attacks on Agwabi village in Binev Council Ward in Buruku Local Government Area of the state, called on the herdsmen to vacate the state immediately before the people resort to self-defence as they have been pushed to the wall.
Ortom, who lamented the attacks, noted that the herdsmen have virtually taken over the entire land in the state, stressing that enough is enough for the rampant killings of his people.
“This is an unfortunate situation that has been happening to us in Benue State. I have been crying all over the place and making appeals because we are under siege by the herdsmen, you push them away from one end, they will go to another end of the state,” the governor lamented.
According to him, it is a bad situation now to see how every day our people are being killed, raped by these mercenaries, who do not have respect for rule of law and for security personnel.
Ortom said: “These are wicked mercenaries under the guise of herdsmen attacking us and taken over our farmlands. I have said it several times that we do not have land for grazing in the state, let them move out of the state. There is a limit to which I can appeal to my people to restrain themselves from reprisal attacks, if all of them are killed then I will be the next target.”
Alluding to allegation that the youths in the state are rustling Fulani cows, the governor denied the allegation saying, “it is the criminal elements among the herdsmen that always steal their cows,” arguing whether rustling of cows is commensurate with the human lives they take. http://sunnewsonline.com/benue-governor-says-state-under-siege-orders-herdsmen-out/ |

greatgod2012: My own opinion is that, one should be careful of the promises made. For someone to be going up and down, promising heaven and earth, should have had an idea of what is obtainable in that place he's going before promising. The problem I see here is that, PMB was only after taking power, he never prepare for anything, he only wanted power. He didn't actually bother himself with the extent to which things have been spoilt, he only wanted power. Its his quest for power that made him promise what could not be achieved, what he never had any idea of. And if he didn't sweetmouth and promise like that, he wouldn't win the election. The masses have their own blame too, when he and his party was making those promises, did the masses ask them how they were going to achieve them, no they didn't. They believed everything line, hook and sinker.
Now, they are blaming the past administration for spoiling everything beyond repair before leaving office, why didn't they do their findings then before making all those promises.
PMB was only after power, and he used his sweet mouth, as well as Jonathan's weakness in the area of tackling BH to get to the power.
I just hope all of us have learnt our lessons. DO NOT BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU HEAR. You killed it. |

Politics › Fuel Price Hike: Rowdy Session At House Of Reps As Lawmakers Blocked Kachikwu. by PhockPhockMan(op): 1:49pm On May 16, 2016 |
The special session of the House of Representatives slated for Monday afternoon (today) for the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu, to interact with lawmakers has been stalled following opposition by some opposition lawmakers. A rowdy session ensued after a motion was moved that Mr. Kachikwu be admitted to the chamber for the special session, scheduled for noon. Members belonging to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party held several Nigerian flags, chanting anti-government slogans, and insisting that Mr. Kachikwu should not be admitted to the chamber. “All we are saying is save Nigeria,” the opposition lawmakers chanted, just as House Leader, Femi Gbajabiamila, was moving a motion for Mr. Kachikwu’s admittance to the House. The Speaker, Yakubu Dogara, was eventually able to restore order at 12:43 p.m. The Minority Leader, Leo Ogor, thereafter moved that the House dissolve into a closed-door session “to resolve pending controversial issues.” The House then went into executive session. The lawmakers had invited the oil minister to explain the rationale for the new fuel pricing and supply framework introduced by government last week. More to come… http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/203474-breaking-fuel-price-hike-rowdy-session-house-reps-lawmakers-block-oil-minister-kachikwu-chamber.html |

Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, who ruled Nigeria between 1983 and 1985, and his successor, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, gave Abacha the clean bill in Kano yesterday after the rememberance prayers marking 10 years of the death of Abacha, who ruled between 1993 and 1998.
