PhonesHow To Spot A Fake Phone by phonedaddy(op): 2:06pm On Sep 04, 2018
Dear all, in the internet you might have come across sad stories of people who say they bought a fake smartphone model. They were unable to detect this because the counterfeit looks like original but it is not. These counterfeit have been made with cheap hardware, poor camera and messy battery and processor.

To tackle these from happening to you, when you want to get a smartphone it is essential you take the following to heart so you won’t fall a victim of these counterfeit phones.

Buy from a reputable seller: Be careful where you buy your smartphone from. Ensure the seller is trusted and sells only original products.

Check Design: Counterfeit smartphones comes with shabby designs, so check the exterior designs, buttons, bezels and camera housing and compare with original version which you can get from online images.

Power on device and check: Ensure you power on the device you want to buy. The UI and software of most original devices are somewhat similar, counterfeit looks quite different from what you get on an original smartphone, icons like the network indicator bar, Bluetooth icon bars should be compared with an original model.

Check the hardware makeup: A fake phone will use cheap hardware just to make profits. Common to them are poor cameras, low storage space, fingerprint errors and lots more, do not be in a hurry to pay for the phone without checking these basic things out.

Run a CPU check: Download CPU-Z on playstore and check the processor makeup and build ID. With this you can easily spot if the device is fake or original.

Run an IMEI check: visit imei.info and enter the IMEI of the phone and check its authenticity. Check on the carlcare app: You can use our APP function to check the authenticity of the smartphone you want to buy, open our app and click on “Warranty Check” input the IMEI digits and wait for the system to check for you.

We hope the above helps you, when buying a smartphone in the future.

PhonesMonday Debate: Curved Vs. Flat Screens by phonedaddy(op): 9:18am On Aug 27, 2018
We start seeing more and more devices with curved screens lately - the Infinix Hot S3x I get that smartphone makers want to make their phones look good and different, but let's not take away the functionality away, shall we?

Curved screens are a new technology and as far as these go they are some of the best development in smartphones in the past few years. They are so much better looking and fit in nicely with the new trend of curved corners and rounded backs, allowing us to use truly gorgeous smartphones.

Which one do you prefer?

I like the curved screens better, they make the phone stand out....

PhonesHow To Stop Google From Tracking Your Location? by phonedaddy(op): 11:24am On Aug 20, 2018
All of us use Google, irrespective of smartphone brands, as it is mandatory to have Google apps pre-installed in the company owned OS. If you remember, Facebook was under attack for tracking and recording user data inorder to exploit it for various business purposes, hand-in-hand with company Cambridge Analytica. An Associated Press investigation has found that Google follows the same track with Google apps installed in your smartphone, but only for location as of we know. Yes,shocking! Google tracks & stores the location of you, every minute you move, even after turning off Location histroy. The company is suspected to be using the location information for the advertising analysis & Big data.

On response to this, Google has clearly said "There are a number of different ways that Google may use location to improve people's experience, including: Location History, Web and App Activity, and through device-level Location Services," a Google spokesperson said in a statement. "We provide clear descriptions of these tools, and robust controls so people can turn them on or off, and delete their histories at any time."

So, here we begin our class on how to prevent Google from saving location history even after Location history has been paused...
On Android:
Step 1: Open Google settings
Step 2: Go to Google Account, then tap on Data & personalization.
Step 3: You'll find Web & App Activity there. Turn this toggle off.

On pc:
Step 1: Sign in to your Google account on a browser on iOS or PC
Step 2: In the browser, access your Account settings by finding Google Account (in the dropdown in the upper right-hand corner).
Step 3: Then head to Personal Info & Privacy -> Go to My Activity -> click Activity Controls (then in the left-hand nav).
Step 4: There you'll see the setting called Web & App Activity, toggle it off

That's all for this class, hope you all find this article useful. grin grin grin

PhonesGoogle Advices You Delete These Apps by phonedaddy(op):
Google says 145 apps on its app store were loaded with malicious files designed to attack your computer.

The apps – some of which were downloaded hundreds of times – have now been removed from the Play Store, but could still lurk on the gadgets of unsuspecting users.

The malicious software, also known as malware, does not affect Android devices but could farm your private data if an infected gadget is plugged into a Windows PC.

Once inside a computer, the virus can track keystrokes, revealing credit card numbers, account passwords and even social security numbers.

Some of the infected apps include 'Learn to Draw Clothing', an app teaching people how to draw and design clothing; 'Modification Trail', an app showing images of trail bike modification ideas; 'Gymnastics Training Tutorial', an app letting people find ideas for gymnastic moves

Palo Alto Networks discovered the malicious apps and went on to notify Google of the flaw.

The apps are no longer available on the Play Store but had been readily downloaded since around October 2017.

They were designed to infect Windows PCs when users unwittingly plugged in their Android gadget to charge it or transfer files.

Not all the apps from the same developer had the same Windows files, prompting the researchers to postulate that the developers used different computers when creating the code of the apps.

It is believed that some of these computers were infested with malware, allowing the software to make its way in to the apps.

The report explains that there is one key file present throughout all the removed apps, a keylogger.

This could have been used by hackers to use the Windows devices to spy on users.

Some of the apps were downloaded hundreds of times and have now been removed from the Play Store. Users who have downloaded any of these files via the Android app onto a PC could be infected

Google just removed 145 apps from its app store because they contained malicious files designed to attack Windows PCs. The malicious software (malware) is ineffective to Android devices but could reveal the personal information of Microsoft device users

The report states: 'On a Windows system, this keylogger attempts to log keystrokes, which can include sensitive information like credit card numbers, social security numbers, and passwords.

'Besides, these files fake their names to make their appearance look legitimate.

'Such names include 'Android.exe,' 'my music.exe,' 'COPY_DOKKEP.exe,' 'js.exe,' 'gallery.exe,' 'images.exe,' 'msn.exe' and 'css.exe'.'

Users who have downloaded any of these files via the Android app onto a PC could be infected.

Some of the infected apps include 'Learn to Draw Clothing', an app teaching people how to draw and design clothing; 'Modification Trail', an app showing images of trail bike modification ideas; 'Gymnastics Training Tutorial', an app letting people find healthy ideas for gymnastic moves.

WHICH APPS WERE AFFECTED BY THE MALWARE?

Google has released the names of some of the infected apps, which have been removed from the Play Store but could still lurk on hundreds of people's Android devices.

It is recommended anyone with one of these apps on their decide deletes it immediately to avoid infection.

While charging my phone 2weeks ago I found out it blew, for a while I couldn't charge but then it picked up. Fast forward to recently I noticed slow charging, although changing chargers solved it. But now, things are just stagnant, the phone doesn't charge anymore(its always stagnant on the % & sometimes regresses) as I am typing I have been charging 3% for 2hrs
your charging point might have been affected. take it to carl care.
