You're both right about the driver thing just that you're viewing it differently.

His claim: All window 7 come with a generic network (WiFi) driver. This is TRUE!

However, there is a caveat to his claim and that's where your explanation sort of come in.

These generic driver is not compatible with some radio controller that come with some laptops. In this case, the laptop will have a non functional WiFi unless a proprietary driver is installed even though the WiFi driver (generic) is indeed present in the installed window 7

That's a sign of a failed OS load.

Possible solutions:

1. Get the recovery/Operating system CD that came with the laptop and use it for repair. (This is given that you bought it new). Yet some new laptops don't come with that.

2. Get a bootable USB/CD to repair

3. Re install window if all fails.

Use SuperBackup for contacts, logs, messages, calender entry and apps(no data included). Use Pc or Xender to transfer the video, audio, pics and docs. That's all. Surest way without story that touch

Like I said, solution abound online.

Here is a list of what I did on mine:

1. Set my connection as metered connection

2. Used regedit to permanently stop auto update and force both wifi and usb tethering to be metered

3. I also used Group Policy edit (GPEdit) to stop auto update for window and native apps (just to be double sure).

4. Disabled anonymous data sending to microsoft. These data contains error reporting, user experience and few personalization stuff.

That's pretty much solns that works for me. Check for guides online on how to do those. They work when you do them correctly.

Are you going back to Win 7 simply because of Win 10 data consumption? Interesting!

There are several ways of drastically reducing Win 10 data consumption and stopping the incessant updates completely. All you need do is ask someone and a bit of google searching would have helped.

Still, if your mind is made up on going back to the redundant win 7, then the best way is to do a dirty install (Custom Install without formating any partition. Simply install win 7 on the partition with win 10) using a prepared usb or bootable win 7 DVD.

If they still don't work, you must return the phone to where you bought it because all Infinix and Tecno 4G phones support MTN 4G unlike glo 4G. I might be wrong but I haven't seen one with no support for mtn 4G.

Very true. Most Tecno and inifinix users think that way because their phones no matter how new with time, will have challenges and they'll need to repair or replace parts

One would be very unreasonable to buy a phone without considering availability of efficient service center and replacement parts unless that person is the type that doesn't care about repairing faulty phones.

Since other 4G enabled simcard displays the 4G on the network. It is very certain that your simcard is the problem. mtn 4g enabled simcards don't have issues with most 4g phones

Things to do.

1. Be sure your simcard supports 4G or has been properly upgraded to support 4G.

2. Try other mtn sim with 4G on the phohe to see whether they work.

It must be hardware related. Possibly a faulty flash memory which can pass as a board problem.

I'd have considered your offer had it been the sdcard was higher...say 16Gb or 32gb original sdcard. I have 64Gb I'm using so don't really need an sdcard. However, consider upgrading the sdcard and come with the 5k

I've had an experience with a bad charger that still produces a shocking sensation with the front frame of an Elite book.

if what you're suggesting is that the charger is fine, you may be right but you must try another charger first to conclude that the laptop is indeed the problem. From your description, it's very less likely that a surge damaged the laptop's motherboard. usually, your power adaptor receives the surge unless you were using a faulty charger before this.

Are you sure your charger is fine. If it has an indicator like led, check to see if it is on when plugged. Try with other charger. Same result implies a faulty motherboard due power surge

Most 1gb ram mini laptops lags with any browser especially when multiple tabs are opened. If it is 1gb, upgrade to 2gb but if it is already 2gb, then reduce the no of apps on background.

The battery (after sale NOT OEM) should not be more than 6k.

OEM can be as high as 12/15k

You see, someone could have just advised you to toss it for a new one. Buying a new better phone isn't bad but doing so when you can still manage the one at hand is.

As a Laptop and smartphone technician myself, there are many cases I treat inwhich the owner claims the said phone is damaged beyond repair where as they aren't. Mostly board and power related issues.

I'm glad you were able to have that one fixed without post-repair issues or having to buy another phone.
