I am a PE and i can tell you that if our 4 refineries are made to work, petrol can be made available for less the 50 naira.

They won't make it happen because people like OBJ and Co. have interest in refineries outside the shores of Nigeria that our oil are sent, to be refined and sold back to us at exorbitant prices.

You definitely have a point. Since you are a P.E, you should also know that the ROI on refineries is nothing less than 10years in this scenario. Who in their right mind will want to invest billions to build refineries in nigeria when there is no guarantee that it will be "bombed" by boko haram 3months after commissioning. Who would want to build a refinery if their is no open market forces at hand i.e if govt continues to subsidize it a\@ 65 bucks and it costs the refinery about 65 bucks or even more to refine, how would they make profit? Also consider thte fact that the price of petrol is related to the price of crude. If the price of crude skyrockets and govt peggs the price of petrol at 65 naira, how would a refinery owner be able to make profit since he has to buy crude oil at the market rate. Crude is not subsidized?
Refinery business has never really been lucrative. Even in the US it wasn't lucrative bakc in the 80's. That was why Shell sold most of their refinining power to Valero who become a major refining power.
With all these considerations, who in their right mind would want to get in the refinery business in nigeria when they can easily venture into the upstream sector and make cool cash.
It is up to nigeria to create that enabling environment.

No where in my post did i justify the current price of petrol in nigeria. My initial statement was just to butress the point that you cant really compare Nigeria with those countries. Even if all was good in Nigeria, there is no guarantee that we would have prices close to what they have considering the burden that Nigeria has. Those countries are not as corrupt as Nigeria so there is no basis for the comparison. There are a lot of strings that have to be scaled in Nigeria. Nigeria can decide to sell petrol for 1naira a liter. The only thing is that other sectors will suffer due to the huge subsidy. I hate it when people start telling us things we already know. Stuff like no light no dis no dat. We know that. How has it changed the price of guguru in the market?
Those other countries can afford to subsidized their fuel "for now" because you have to consider GDP. Thats why i mentioned population. The amount that it will take to subsidize fuel for it to be as cheap as theirs will have a toll on the nations finances cos we are like 10 times bigger than those nations. THEIR CONSUMPTION/DEMAND is not as high as ours.
With regards to the insult, if you insult me, i will insult you, period. Those other guys are just empty barrels because they failed to read what i wrote. All they care about is that PDP is this PDP is that.

There was also this tale of how someone dissappeared from Kwara and appeared in Lagos. The guy said someone touched him and he appeared in Lagos. People were screaming JUJU. Nobody bothered to find out if the guy had some amnesia of some sort. SOmetimes the brain gets phucked up and you don't know what is going on and you lose your memory for a while. The guy could have boarded a bush subconsciously and headed to lagos without knowing it. We are quick to tag anything we cant explain as JUJU.

If you have not been to france doe s not mean that france does not exist. i dont know where you grew up but if you lived in remote villages that strong in tradition, you more likely to witness mysterious incidences of juju(hidden sciences). What we cal juju is probably a science that we are yet to fully understand. that may explain why it is inconsistent and hard to prove . i would not be a believer if i had not personally witnessed it. Here is my story.

My aunt(late) was a native doctor(healer) and lived in a big compound. I used to spend weekens at her compound when I was around 10yrs old. On one sunday, we all went out for a ceremony. when we came back in the evening, we met four strangers sweeping the compound and there were indications that they had been doing it repeatedly for several ours. they had come into the compound to rob but instead found booms left at the gate and started sweeping the compound. My aunt interugated them to know if anyone had sent them, warned them not to come near her compound again and then released them. this wa snot a tale tale story. I was there.

To the issue of fuel. We CANNOT have cheap fuel unless we have refineries. Guess what, who wants to invest in a refinery in a country like Nigeria where people like you will go out and say boko haram bombing is justified if they bomb only people in government or say things like naija delta kidnapping is okay as long as it is just foreigners.
A refinery is a long term investment. If there is no security, and government guarantee private institutions will be unwilling to invest.
For the refinery to be profitable, the downstream needs to be deregulated. People do not want deregulation, which ultimately will lead to higher prices in the short term but lower prices in the long run and then expect refineries to pop up.
I know you're not smart enough to comprehend so i'll leave it at that. So if you say govt is functioniong, you are now a pdp member? I pity this country. The government may not be doing enough but we definitely have a government.

It's obvious you're one of the millions who are still in doubt either due to over-affiliation to western culture that sees nothing good in the black man and his inventions or from brainwashing from some religious beliefs. I don't have any problem with that but let me enlighten you a little.

The whole essence of this black magic is that no matter the number of times the robbers come around, even when they are able to locate flat B that shares same roof with flat A (mine in this case) and separated by just a wall, they will never locate the way to flat A. Also, even after finding their ways to flats C and D that are directly opposite flat A, they will still miss their ways to flat A. And by the way, the said flat A is the very first flat you meet while coming into the compound. It's so conspicuously located that any visitor coming into the compund makes it a natural port of call for enquiries.

After the seeming success of this first gang of robbers to visit the estate, there were about 5 different attacks by some other less organized groups and still in all the other attempts, just like the very first one, they still could not locate flat A But I had to move out of the neighborhood as the trauma, coupled with the incessant fear of more attacks became unbearable

But let me ask you this question: Have you ever asked yourself why the kite is so quick to snatch a chicken but not a baby duck even when both are spotted in the open? That's some food for thought for you

Are you aware that ongoing research in a California university has been able to somewhat perform "invisiblity". They have been able to create a scenario where light is deflected from the user and hence you don't see the object. look at the prices below if only the refineries are working.

Petrol price in some OPEC countries:
Saudi $0.12;
Kuwait $0.79;
UAE $0.37;
Venezuela $0.5;
Qatar $0.22;
Iran $0.42;
Algeria $0.20;
Libya  $0.14.

Quit comparing Nigeria to all these other countries. We are different. Yes petrol could be a lot cheaper but it isn't. Deal with it.
Most of those countries have a population half the size of Nigeria. Even if they didn't have refineries, they could still afford to keep it low because the cost of perfroming other "govt" functions would still be low. I doubt kuwait's population is even up to that of Ibadan. Same for for libya etc

The other day, some dare-devil robbers mumbering about 12 were busy robbing from flat to flat in my former neiighbourhood in an operation that lasted from 12:00 midnight till about 3:30a.m. All effort to get help from the Police was futile as we later learnt the entrance to the estate was barricaded and manned by some of the robbers. At the end of the oeration, 15 flats in 4 different compounds were visited and mine was the only one not attacked. There was not even a single knock on my protector -thanks to some African magic from my late grand mother (the more you look, the less you see).

Has anyone ever been in a stadium when the match had to be abandoned for whatever reason? It has happened to me on 2 occasions:

1) Stores Vs NEPA circa mid 80's
This was a National League Division 2 match at Onikan stadium that was packed over an hour before kick off.
Stores had dominated play from kick off and even missed a few chances. Against the run of play NEPA scored about 15 minutes or 20 minutes into the game. Immediately, rumour started circulating the stadium that the NEPA keeper had some juju on him and there was no way Stores were going to equalise.
Stores fans must have believed this as they started pelting the pitch with all sorts of objects having decided the match wasn't with continuing with. Of course the NPF needed no invitation to start firing teagas willy nilly without so much as a word of warning.

1) IICC Vs Stores circa late 80's
This was a National League Division 1 match at Adamasingba stadium between two middle of the table teams.
I remember the stadium had lots of Stores supporters who had made their way over to Ibadan in a convoy of Molue's. There had been baiting and counter baiting between both sets of fans all afternoon. I foolishly stood next to some mouthy IICC fans not far from the Stores supporters and as soon as IICC scored sometime in the first half, all hell was let loose with the Stores fans going on rampage and chasing everyone away. Not surprisingly, our good friends at the NPF needed no prompting to fire off some teargas in our direction.

A seismic social convulsion is sweeping across the advanced capitalist nations of the world right now. It’s called the “Occupy” movement, which started with the “Occupy Wall Street” protest in New York. As I write this column, the protest continues to gather momentum and spread to not only other American cities (there was a hugely successful “Occupy Atlanta” protest here) but also to other major Western capitals and cities.

At the last count, nearly 100 countries in the world have caught the “occupy” bug. It’s a spontaneous grassroots rebellion against asphyxiating elite tyranny, greed, and other capitalist excesses.

But there is nowhere in the world that this protest is needed more urgently than in Nigeria where a clueless, thieving, conscienceless, and parasitic elite class is about to commit suicide through its wrongheaded plan to “remove fuel subsidies,” which is nothing more than an unimaginative, well-worn code for increasing fuel prices and deepening the misery of an already traumatized citizenry.

One of the slogans of the “Occupy Wall Street” protesters is, “We are the 99 percent”— in reference to the obscene income disparity in America where more than 40 percent of the wealth generated by the economy goes to the top 1 percent of the country’s population. But the income inequality in America pales miserably in comparison with the outrageously unconscionable pauperization of large swaths of the Nigerian population by a cruelly insensitive and rapacious ruling class. Nigeria’s problem isn’t merely one of income inequality; it’s more the sobering reality of the perpetually savage violation of the masses of the people by a criminally privileged elite few in order to subsidize their vain, epicurean indulgences.

Nowhere is this insensitivity more evident than in the perennial blackmail of the masses by successive governments through removal of so-called fuel subsidies. For as long as I can remember, every Nigerian government has “deregulated” and “removed fuel subsidy” to generate income for “national infrastructural development.” When the late General Sani Abacha hiked fuel prices in the mid-1990s, for instance, we were told that the last subsidy had been removed. To “cushion the effect” of this drastic action, the Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF) was established and entrusted with the responsibility of renewing Nigeria’s decaying infrastructure and health car.

After that “subsidy removal,” a lot of Nigerians were relieved not because they were anesthetized by the PTF palliative but by what they thought was their freedom from the permanent government blackmail that told them they were undeserving beneficiaries of government’s expensive benevolence through fuel subsidies. But the freedom lasted for only a short while. Olusegun Obasanjo came and rehabilitated the old blackmail strategy: he said government was collapsing under the ponderous weight of its magnanimity toward the masses through fuel subsidies. He therefore increased fuel prices more times than any president or head of state in Nigeria’s entire history.

The last time he increased fuel prices, he assured Nigerians that the last abiding subsidy had been removed once and for all. The oil industry was now truly and totally deregulated. Government would no longer intervene in determining fuel prices. In the new “deregulated” milieu, the wise, invisible but self-regulating dynamic of demand and supply would determine fuel prices. Even though Nigerians were being fooled for the umpteenth time, they, in their legendary docility, put up with the government’s lies and came to peace with the unjustified increases in fuel prices.

Now, the Goodluck Jonathan administration is deploying the same old, hackneyed, duplicitous, and mind-numbingly familiar arguments to increase fuel prices. But I think this time around the government is pushing its luck a little too far—never mind that the name of the president is “good luck.” As the English say, even a worm will turn, meaning even the meekest and most docile person will fight back if you push him so hard that he has nowhere else to escape to.

Goodluck Jonathan--may not be lucky this time

The government is about to push the masses of Nigerians to a cul-de-sac. When that happens the masses would be faced with only two options: fight back fiercely and doggedly or submit to incremental but sure death. If it is true that self-preservation is the first law of nature, I expect a sustained, single-minded, and uncompromising battle in the coming months. The time may have finally come when the fault-lines of ethnicity and religion that have historically divided Nigerians will no longer matter.




But the Nigerian people should never wait until next year when the government increases fuel prices before they strike. The “Occupy Nigeria” movement should start right away! And here is why.

While over 80 percent of Nigerians live below the breadline, our legislators at both houses of the National Assembly earn more money than any elected official in the whole world, including Barack Obama, president of the world’s most prosperous nation. Our president and his numberless coterie of useless minions pillage the national treasury daily in the name of maintaining government. Our ministers are the most expensive public officials in the world.

Now, because a numerically insignificant portion of the population that are “privileged” to work for government asked for a miserly 18,000 naira ($114) a month minimum wage, the government wants to push every Nigerian who falls outside the orbit of institutionalized stealing otherwise known as government to the brink, to the very edge of existence. The same government that is complaining of the unbearable burden of “subsidizing” fuel prizes for the masses of Nigeria has depleted our foreign reserve by $3.5 billion in 2011 alone to subsidize the unconscionably lavish opulence of its members.

In all of this, perhaps the biggest scandal is that among oil-producing countries in the world, Nigerians pay about the most for petrol. While Nigerians currently pay about $1.64 for fuel per gallon, Venezuelans pay only 18 cents per gallon (meaning a bottle of water is cheaper than a gallon of petrol in the country!), Iranians pay just 37 cents per gallon, war-ravaged Libyans 54 cents, Saudi Arabians 48 cents, Qataris 72 cents, Bahrainis 78 cents, Turkmens (citizens of Turkmenistan) 72 cents, Kuwaitis 87 cents, Omanis $1.17, Yemenis $1.32, etc. Only citizens of the United Arab Emirates pay slightly higher than us for petrol at $1.78 per gallon.

The standard of living in all of these countries is, of course, light-years higher than Nigeria’s. They have better social safety nets for their poor.

[size=14pt]I read that that government wants to raise the fuel price to 141 naira per litter at the very minimum, which adds up $3.6 per gallon! That would mean that petrol would be cheaper in America and some European countries that don’t export oil than in Nigeria! I currently pay a little over $3 per gallon in Atlanta for quality fuel that actually burns a LOT slower than the fuel I use when I’m in Nigeria. (Nigerian importers always import the lowest possible quality of fuel to the country).
Remember, too, that the federal minimum wage in the United States is $7.25 per hour. That adds up to $1,160 per month, which is equivalent to 184,000 naira per month. In the state of Washington, the minimum wage per hour is $8.67.[/size]
So by next year, a low-grade clerk with an 18,000 naira monthly salary in Nigeria will be paying more for fuel than an American laborer who receives the equivalent of 184,000 per month. And the low-grade clerk is a citizen of the world’s 8th largest exporter of oil. Where is the justice in that? Why the heck should we have cream and our faces are dry?

If Nigerians don’t wake up now and occupy Aso Rock, the National Assembly, the Federal Secretariat, the Central Bank, governor’s offices all over the federation, etc they will be “occupied.” And this “occupation” will be more suffocating than it has ever been. The choice before Nigerians is one between death and life. I hope Nigerians choose life!

The US has more oil and gas than Nigeria. The only reason they import more than the rest of the world is to satisfy demand. The number of active oil and gas rigs currently in the US exceeds the total number of rigs WORLDWIDE put together by a far margin.
Its of no use comparing the US and Nigeria. The US has tonnes of refineries so unless world oil prices go up, don't expect gas prices to be unreasonalble. Petrol should not be expensive in Nigeria period. Dont contradict yourself by comparing the US. By the way, i'm not sure about this but i believe the fuel used in Nigeria is Premium grad.

Please what is the schedule like for MWD Engineers in Nigeria. A family friend is keen on returning to Nigeria. He works MWD in the US and he basically has no schedule. I heard from some people that it is rotation. i.e 28/28 or something like that but the guy keeps telling me there is no schedule because he works all the time in the US and comes back home for like 2-5 days and is back on the rig again. He mostly works on Land rigs.

It seems you've been away for a while. A lot of people dont buy these CD's. Naija market is mostly pirated cds that people deal with.
The guy said its at mega plaza. By diesel, what i mean is they have to power their store/mall and you know how power is in naija. 2000 naira is nothing. How many CD's do you think they will sell. This is not bestbuy or walmart we talking here.

Oshodi?,population figures are manipulated and corrupt because of revenue sharing by the states.a Good example can some 1 explain 2 me why a state like kano,which before the independence had almost the same figures as Lagos and Oyo in the 60s and after the civil war the state was divided into kaduna,kastina,jigawa and 50yrs later it still av more population than Lagos?the elections gave an average figure of 1 mill given a turnout of 30% in urban areas which makes up 55% and 75% in the rural area so where did they get 150 or 200 million from? For a country the size of texas?inflating population figures dose not make us great its a burden,it is the only way the north could plunder the south,by inflating population figures they could have more state,senators,reps,and more allocation,money made by resources from the south.Its only ppl who have not travel the length and breath of the country and also being to other countries that would belief that N igeria is 150 million not to talk of 200mill.pls i beg poster,talk beta talk.

after playing the FIFA 12 endlessly,and could safely conclude that the PES games have a lot of catching up to do.

However,that's not to say that FIFA 12 doesn't have its own flaws. But i personally prefer the FIFA 11 to the 12. There seems to be more

space to run in behind defenders in 12,and forwards feel more kinda "lightweight" thus making defending much more difficult.

BTW 13,000? FIFA 12 packs now go for about 45 GBP. That's just about 10-11,000 naira,guess some Nigerian traders will always want to milk

their customers' pockets to the max.

In Lagos, a car was stolen, same day the windscreen was removed and the VIN was replaced with another(made in Lagos VIN).

That's the beginning of what happens, then repainting occurs and finally they send it to dealers who sell the vehicles as 'neat almost new tokunboh'!!!!
