No where in my post did i try to belittle the jos workers or whatever job they are performing. I clearly stated that employers need to pay their employees right. My only arguement was the quote from the workers comparing their wages with those of their counterparts in Lagos. I am not saying they necessarilly can not earn the same wage. Standard of living and cost of living for both cities differ so they cant use Lagos as a reason for their salary. They should definitely fight for an increase but i doubt that "we should earn the same as those in lagos" will fly.

While i believe the employers should pay fair wages, i think it is rather irrational to expect call center workers in Jos to earn the same amount as those in Lagos even if they perform the same duties. The standard of living in the two cities is different. The lagos workers probably pay twice or three times the rent of their counterparts in Jos. Smae thing for transportation.
What they should fight for is review of salaries and not use other states as justification because their arguement will be irrelevant.

The time when we could force oil companies to do stuff is long gone. We should have done that 20+ years ago.
You all need to stop feeling special. The oil that you keep shouting about is no longer special. There are other areas with oil. If we make business too difficult for these companies, they can either choose to stay with the difficult rules or move out. Trust me, if they move out, we will be the biggest losers. Do you think that the US will continue buying crude from Nigeria if EXXON and CHEVRON are forced out?
It's a two way bargaining chip. The Govt will need to provide an enabling environment first and guarantee them that their investment wont be wasted. I doubt the government can guarantee anything of that sort because even the so called upstream pipelines (which generates the most revenue) have not been spared from niger delta bombings. What guarantee will the companies have that the refineries and assoicated pipelines won;t be subjected to BOMBINGS

There is no way you can profit without the government subsidy. The only time it was possible without any subsidy was when crude dropped to 40 dolls per barrel

my own response to your questions. P.S i do not support anyone so please no bashing.
a) Demand has risen drastically in recent times. Even at 100% capacity, our 3 refineries can not satisfy our demand.

b) Since locally refined fuel can not meet demand, they have to sell at a rate that will not hinder people from importing. If they sale way lower than international rates, marketers will not import. By the time we are able to build enough refineries to meet demand, marketers will not need to import, they will simply buy from our local refineries. This is why NNPC has to "fix" prices in order not to hinder importation and thus return us to long queues.

Please oo, i do not support anyone. This is just my understanding of the situation. No need for unnecessary abuses.

Which kain yeye analysis be this. There are other biproducts of crude after refinining. Crude oil and Petrol are not the same. You don't just convert 1liter of crude to 1 liter of petrol. Ignorance is not an excuse. Educate yourselves people. The analysis above is flawed. Optimum efficiency or not, our current refineries can't satisfy demand

i know there was/is a lot of "book cooking" but didn't the price of crude oil change during the time given? maybe subsidy should have increased from 400 to like 800 or so and the rest is "egunje" ?

As much as I know a lot still need be done especially in Alimoso area of lagos, we must march on towards achieving a better Lagos. I hope the rented crowd from Agege and Mushin by Bode George and Obanikoro (simply his son lost in the 2 last elections) who are bent on causing problems for us in Lekki due to their myopic sense of reasoning using Ebun Olu Adegboruwa (a tax evader) to mobilize people against a development project in Lagos.

The way you mention the number of classrooms and cubicles only continues to assure me that you are either a politician or at least someone who works with/is part of the current Lagos state government.
Only politiicians say things like we built 18classrooms blah blha . It's like the way "akatas" brag about taking care of their kids as if thats not their responsibility.
I believe i speak for everyone when i say we all want development. No one is against development. The problem arises when one person(s) tries to cheat/take advantage of other people.

Don't you think a responsible government in conjunction with LCC should have done more than just saying there is an alternative route. How about LCC creating a video with cars passing the altertante route and putting it on their website or on the news so the level of secrecy in this project can be reduced. Why do they have to wait for the people to protest.
The only thing that saddens me about the whole situation is that people like Bode George have used it as a political stunt. People are genuinely not happy that they are being ripped off.
By the way, unless things have changed, when did LAGBUS start plying the lekki-ajah route. I know they run V.I(zenith bus stop) to cms and so on but definitely not the lekki epe axis

I appreciate other bros that took time to lay out their arguments carefully, and bro who did more research to confirm exactly what government and even LCC said on the matter. Even if we don't agree with ourselves, let's be civilized. Government's announcement confirmed the alternative route to bypass the first toll gate was already in place. It should therefore be clear that it is new alternative routes that they were talking about building. They have confirmed recently that they have constructed half of the new alternative route for the Chevron toll gate and that they are still to finish the remainder. The road is definitely there. I've driven on it. Go and check it for yourself. It is a new road. Government is not allowing LCC to collect tolls at the Chevron toll gate until the new alternative route is complete. I saw in today's newspaper that Lagos PPP office placed advert of a map of the alternative route at Oniru toll gate. I think it was ThisDay. Go and look at it for the clear directions. All this talk about driving through peoples backyard is exaggeration. I live in Lekki area so I know what the expressway was like before LCC started the work. People that tell you that the road was anything like it is today know that they are lying or have never been to that area. For someone to say that the expressway had no potholes before is amazing. A road that did not receive regular maintenance for 30 years and did not have proper drain systems could not possibly be in good shape especially with the many rainy seasons that would have passed over those years. Rain kills roads and creates potholes. Let's face it, the road was in very bad shape!!!! Crime has also reduced there. We don't hear much again about armed robbers hitting drivers in traffic. I will also continue to praise the incident services that LCC has brought especially because I have benefited from it and saved serious money from that. LCC say they have helped over 7,000 people. There has been a huge increase in new business and project development on that Lekki axis since LCC started the work, and anyone that owns land or property there knows that value has increased significantly. This means job creation for people and economic development for the area. The expressway is also going to support new mega projects in the area like Lekki FTZ, Lekki airport, Lekki deep sea port, Lekki refinery, etc, which means even more jobs and prosperity. We need more of this all over Lagos and Nigeria please.

Eteks i am guessing you just moved to LEKKI recently thus your analysis. Those of us that lived there when it used to take 10minutes to drive from Mobil House to VGC know much better. The reason that road lasted is because of the quality of the road and the "fact that it did not get heavy use until the recent population explosion in lekki. There is even no point argueing. Check out the stretch of the road that LCC has not touched yet and tell me if it is not in good condition------abraham adesanya axis.
Potholes were rare on that road. The problem was TRAFFIC and still remains TRAFFIC. Compared to most roads in Lagos, it ranked in the top 3 prior to LCC.
You mention roberry and security. My guy you don goof for there. The area has always been one of the safest parts to live in Lagos. Anyone can confirm that. LCC has no influence on that.

You are obviously a JJC in that area. Without LCC the value of property woulda still continued to rise. Was it LCC that made land that was sold at VGC @ 3million skyrocket to 120million?
Did LCC bring the palms to that area? Did LCC bring LFTZ to the area? All these things are there and would have come without the LCC touchups so do not use them as a plus for paying tolls

The challenge on forum is that people come with a rigid stance on issues without any room to bend. How do we move forward when development issues are tackled like this. I guess we enjoy pot hole riden roads, in this lagos where I live I see where my tax money is going in Lagos, though there is a wide room for improvement. But then, development must continue.

No one is against development. The question is simple. Why not just build your own road and toll it. If people like your road, they will use it and pay toll. How can you force people to pay tolls by tolling the only road into that axis withoug "good alternatives"

It is very simple. The only excuse for the project is alleviation of traffic.
If the traffic situation is not COMPLETELY eradicated by LCC, then there is no basis for tolling.
Nobody asked them for any rubbish free emergency road services. There are emergency road services already operating in lagos that people pay for(and gladly too).

If LCC had built flyovers, increased the lanes to like 6 on each side,,,,,,,people might have been more considerate.
Oh and yes maybe if the toll was like 20naira

It is obvious that there will always be traffic at those roundabouts. Why will residents be happy to pay toll for the same situation all over again. If you still have to face traffic on that road, what is the justification for the toll? Street lights and flowers? Hell, Fashola knows how to plant flowers, the government coulda just done that and saved us all the headache. The project would have been laudable if it wasn't selfishly developed for the sole purpose of reaping people off.
Imagine if they had even said tolls of 50naira or something. 120naira for each toll. Hanhan.

my experience has been that there is general insecurity in Nigeria and not Lagos alone.

first in furthering what was Tinubu's initiative they have changed the revenue generating profile of the state and that is to be commended. But there is evidence they are losing focus. There are very strong signs of corruption,autocracy and a derailment of democracy.rather than try to defend the indefensible they should engage with the electorate and demonstrate that they respect them and view them as their masters NOT the other way round.
Services must be paid for.
BUT this is a relatively VERY SMALL PROJECT

Don't mind them. We all know the main reason for the project. It is simply a private investment to enrich their pockets. They are in no way trying to help anybody in LEKKI. That is why they have deviced it in such a way that people will be forced to pay toll. If the purpose of the project was to help the lekki people, they would have built an entirely new road.
They have tolled that road because they know the amount of traffic plying it and want to make a killing in the process. Imagine what would happen when the LFTZ finally opens. People would nearly sleep on those roads daily because the traffic situation would be ridiculous. I would have expected Fashola to sit down with LCC and revise the terms of the contract. Do things like building a freeeeaking FLYOVER and see if peopel wont be willing to pay tolls. How can you ask people to pay tolls on a road that nothing has been done to?
That road was more than in an excellent condition before LCC came. They are not doing lekki residents any favour. The only favor they could have done is to alleviate traffic. What they have done will not alleviate traffic so please tell me why should we pay toll on the same road with the same problems we've been having. If you pay for services, you should be able to see what you are paying for.
