TV/Movies / COVID-19: Face Mask Suffocates Security Guard To Death by phylshan: 3:16pm On Sep 05, 2020
Solom

Solomon Ede was in the habit of never failing to wear his face mask in order to protect himself against the dreaded coronavirus otherwise called Covid-19. At bed time every night, he would usually remove the loose-fitting piece of protective cloth. Penultimate weekend, however, he made a costly error that sent him into early grave.

On Friday, August 28, the 50-year-old private guard popularly called Baba Rita and attached to a building in Alako area of Abeokuta, was said to have gone to bed without removing his face mask shortly after he took a local gin popularly called ogogoro.

His lifeless body was found face down with his face mask the next day, suggesting that he died of suffocation from the face mask.

Sources revealed that neighbours who came to fetch water at the compound of the house where the deceased worked as a guard until his death banged on the gate of the building endlessly but Ede did not come out to grant them access to the tap.

It was said that the noise at the gate of the building alerted Ede’s boss who opened the gate for the visitors and decided to check on Ede in his room, but the door to his room was firmly shut. His boss then forced the door of the apartment tucked inside the security house of the building open only to find Ede lying face down on the bed lifeless and with his face mask in place.

The boss was said to have raised the alarm which attracted other residents to the building, with many blaming the deceased’s tragic death on his obsession with alcohol.

The news of the guard’s death triggered emotions as sympathisers had a hectic time consoling his widow, who had rushed to the scene on receiving the news of her husband’s death.

It was said that the expectant wife of the deceased’s boss was shell-shocked and almost passed out at the scene but for the quick intervention of female sympathisers who took her away.

A source said: “But for the noise from those who came to fetch water in the early hours of the day, no one would have known that a tragedy had occurred.

“It was when the deceased failed to come out of his apartment to attend to those fetching water in the premises of the house that his boss came out and discovered his body.”

Shocked by the discovery, the unnamed Ede’s employer reported the matter to a police division at Kemta, Idi Aba.

Sources said the deceased was recently persuaded by his boss to open an account in a bank for the purpose of receiving his salary, following the way he was lavishing his money on alcohol.

A neighbour who spoke in confidence said: “Earlier on the day of his unfortunate death, his employer reminded him of their previous discussion about opening a bank account so he could be paying his salary into the account without delay, especially when he is out of town.

”He was to be paid his salary same Saturday his lifeless body was found in his room.”

Some sympathisers revealed that Ede took to alcohol after suffering depression. He was said to have been warned by his employer and residents of the neighbourhood many times to desist from excessive consumption of the local gin.

“He usually removed his face mask before going to bed. But he took some ogogoro late in the evening and was downcast. Those who saw him at the entrance of his apartment asked him to remove the mask on his face and go to bed, but he refused.

“But me and you have similar personalities. I’m not going deep but when we have conversations, I connect with these people more.”

Sports / Manchester City Give Conditions For Signing Messi From Barcelona by phylshan: 3:46pm On Aug 25, 2020
Manchester City are exploring the possibility of signing Lionel Messi from Barcelona, ESPN reports.

However, the former Premier League champions will only make a bid, if they will not breach Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules.

City also need Barca to agree to sell their prized assets before making a move.

So far, the LaLiga giants have insisted Messi is untransferable and is protected by a €700million (£632million) release clause.

But City continue to keep an eye on the situation, after the 32-year-old admitted he could leave.

Barcelona endured a miserable season under managers Ernesto Valverde and Quique Setien, which ended in an 8-2 thrashing in the Champions League, as they finished a season trophyless for the first time since 2008.

It led to the sacking of Setien, who has been replaced by Ronald Koeman, with the future of many players up in the air.

TV/Movies / Kemi Olunloyo Blasts Davido's Brother For Insulting Bbnaija Viewers by phylshan: 11:30am On Aug 25, 2020
Controversial Nigerian journalist, Kemi Olunloyo, has taken to social media to slam billionaire Adedeji Adeleke's son, Adewale, over his recent remark about fans of Big Brother Naija (BBNaija). Recall earlier, Adewale joined several other Nigerians to condemn youths watching the reality show. The top music executive recently took to his Instastory channel to call out youths who are watching the show as if their lives depend on it.

It appears this did not sit well with Olunloyo who has now taken to her Instagram page to slam Adewale for what she described as his ignorance. She also alleged that he is not the son of Veronica Adeleke -Davido’s mother.

Read her post below: “WALE ADELEKE: Davido’s arrogant fat older half brother says you should stop watching #bbnaijialockdown and you are all lame. Some people’s lives depend on the small small N1M prizes Ebuka gives out. He also advises you to “go make money” not even get a job. This is the problem I have with children of billionaires. I keep educating you and many of you are DISRESPECTFUL as you like LIES. Well he’s already asked you if your life depends on it? Wale is the son of Deji Adeleke’s baby mama Grace before he married late Veronica. The arrogant young man confessed to me that their father in fact got an oil block from Ibrahim Babangida as a gift just like Folorunso Alakija “in good faith”. Wale is so ignorant he tweeted 20 mos ago to me that I’m a “mumu Journalist” saying ALL RICH NIGERIANS got oil blocks. Pastors, Businessmen etc too ABI? Children of the oil rich Nigerians don’t know where their father’s riches came from: Mostly NIGERIA’S OIL MONEY but can tell you arrogantly to “go make money” and blatantly flaunt their wealth. Many youth want to be like the Adelekes and end up caught doing Yahoo by the EFCC.

Have you asked Wale how to make that money? These kids got huge start up cash from their father and think everyone is that lucky fooling their peers that they made money with hard work. Here’s proof that Wale actually said that if you are rich you got an oil block. Ignorance does not excuse stupidity Wale. Meanwhile late Abba Kyari got a $1B oil block July 2019 as seen in a restricted leaked document and his daughter owns $270M shares off it. Not all rich ppl Wale, only friends of the ruling president. Deji Adeleke was one of “IBB’s boys” and Alakija was late Marian Babangida’s in house tailor. They keep enjoying NIGERIA’S money. Keep supporting them. The same Wale who Hushpuppi was spraying mounds of dollars at his UAE wedding. Don’t worry, henwill do a giveaway soon."

Sports / Messi: I Will Pass The Ball To Ronaldo If He Comes To Bacelona by phylshan: 11:39am On Aug 17, 2020
Barcelona captain, Lionel Messi, has said he won’t have any problem passing the ball to Cristiano Ronaldo if the Juventus man happens to join Barcelona this summer.

Spanish football expert, Guillem Balague, had claimed that the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes, has put his name out there with Barca amongst those contacted.

And Spanish outlet, Mundo Deportivo, quoted the Argentine captain as suggesting that he would pass to the Portuguese superstar if they played on the same side.

Messi and Ronaldo have had a heated rivalry lasting over a decade on the field.

Asked if he would pass to the former Real Madrid goal king, Messi said he would eventually do so.

“I guess so, in the end, yes,” Messi said.

From their elimination from the Champions League by Lyon, Ronaldo’s future at Juventus has been cast in doubt.

Ronaldo, whose contract expires in 2022, has been linked with a move to French Champions, PSG.

Sports / Cristiano Ronaldo Offered To Barcelona by phylshan: 9:56am On Aug 13, 2020
Ronaldo Offered To Barcelona.

Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly been offered to Barcelona in a sensational move that would see him play alongside Lionel Messi.

The former Real Madrid talisman could be on his way out from Juventus, after two seasons with The Old Lady – who are trying to get his huge £28m-per-year salary off their books, according to Spanish journalist Guillem Balague.

He explained to the BBC that the Serie A champions are desperate to ship off Ronaldo due to his astronomical wages that they have been offering him out to Europe’s elite, including Barcelona.

He told 5 Live Sport: ‘He’s been offered everywhere, including Barcelona. I’m not sure if they can get rid of him easily with the kind of money he earns. Who is going to pay that kind of money?’

Barcelona have been hit hard financially by the coronavirus pandemic and look unable to make big money signings during the summer period, as they hope to bridge the gap to LaLiga champions Real Madrid.

Whilst an attacking duo of Lionel Messi and Ronaldo has been a spectacle football fans have been crying out for since they both announced themselves on the world stage around 15 years ago, it looks incredibly unlikely to become a reality this summer.

‘The reason why Cristiano Ronaldo has been linked with PSG, it’s not so much because PSG are thinking of getting him, but because Jorge Mendes has been given instructions to actually find a team for Ronaldo.’

Health / COVID-19: RUSSIA To Begin Production Of Vaccine In Two Weeks by phylshan: 9:40am On Aug 13, 2020
MOSCOW, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- Russia will start the production of its COVID-19 vaccine within two weeks, the country's health minister Mikhail Murashko said Wednesday.

"First of all, the production facilities in Russia will be oriented towards the domestic market, to meet the need of our citizens," Murashko said during a news conference.

Russia will offer the vaccine to other countries when it has sufficient amounts, the minister said, adding that foreign nations' doubts about the effectiveness of the vaccine are unfounded.

The platform where the vaccine was created has been thoroughly studied and its authors have accumulated a sufficient amount of scientific data to guarantee its safety, he added.

The world's first registered vaccine against the novel coronavirus was announced by President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday during an online meeting with government officials.

The vaccine, named Sputnik V, was developed by the Gamaleya National Center of Epidemiology and Microbiology, alongside the Russian Direct Investment Fund.

Russia plans to produce at least five million doses of the vaccine a month from December through January, according to Alexander Gintsburg, director of the Gamaleya National Research Center.

He said that the center is also preparing documents to obtain permission to test the vaccine on children.

The vaccine for children will be the same as the one for adults, but will likely be administered in a different dosage, requiring additional testing, Gintsburg added.

So far, Russia has tallied a total of 902,701 COVID-19 cases, including 15,260 deaths and 710,298 recoveries. ■

Religion / Apostle Suleman: Why Sentence A Singer To Death And Set FreeThe Terrorist? by phylshan: 11:29am On Aug 12, 2020
A popular Nigerian pastor, Apostle Johnson Suleman has reacted to the death sentence handed to a musician for blasphemy. Suleman faulted the Kano Upper Shari’a Court for sentencing 22-year-old Yahaya Sharif to death by hanging. The televangelist and general overseer of Omega Fire Ministries International likened the verdict to self-deceit.

Apostle Suleman has questioned why a singer will be sentenced to death when terrorists are pardoned in Nigeria. The clergyman said the country that pardons terrorists want to kill a man for blasphemy. Suleman likened the verdict to self-deceit.

"A country that pardons terrorists wants to kill a man for blasphemy..I am sure even Saudi Arabia is shocked..the worst form of deception is self deceit," he tweeted.

It could be recalled that an Upper Shari’a Court in Kano on Monday, August 10, presided by Khadi Aliyu Muhammad Kani found the 22-year old guilty of blasphemy after he composed a song in which verses were allegedly said to have been attributed to the prophet. Back in March, the Islamic singer composed a song that was shared on social media.

The song went viral and caused an uproar which resulted in the invasion of Shariff's house by the youths who wanted to set it on fire. It was reported that the Kano-based singer is a member of Faidha group who “are known for their preference of Shaikh Ibrahim Nyass over Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and belongs to the Tijjaniya sect.
Meanwhile, Nigeria's social media space is currently filled with outrage over the death sentence handed out to a singer over for blasphemy against Prophet Mohammed (PBUH). Social media opinions on the issue are heated and diverse, emotions are running high; many want the Nigerian government to intervene. But there are still some missing links regarding the burning issue as only a few journalists were reportedly allowed entry into the court.

Health / China Loan: Ameachi Challenges NASS To Publish Terms Of Agreement by phylshan: 7:51am On Aug 01, 2020
The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has challenged the National Assembly committee probing the loans and sovereign immunity clause in a $500 million loan China granted to Nigeria to publish the terms of the agreement.

Speaking during a live television show monitored by The Nation on Friday night, Amaechi declared that the National Assembly was privy to the loan, because it gave approval for it.

The minister also said the clause in the loan agreement, which has attracted so much attention in the last few days, is the standard in every agreement signed by Nigeria and any country willing to lend it money, adding that it was not peculiar to the agreement signed with the Chinese government.

The minister also noted that the federal government has commenced repayment of the loan taken from China.

According to him, $96 million has been paid out of the $500 million that was borrowed for the Abuja-Kaduna rail corridor.

He also said the only way the country can experience infrastructural development at the moment was for it to borrow.

The minister also hinted that he was getting signal from the Chinese government that Nigeria may not get the loan following the probe by the National Assembly.

Commenting on Nigeria loans and sovereign immunity clause, the minister said: “They are there in every loan signed and the borrowers want to know that the country they are giving money will be able to pay back.

“It is a commercial agreement between Nigeria and China. Let us not look at the legal issues right now. The first issue is that the Ministry of Transportation does not take loans. Anything about loans has to be done by the Ministry of Finance, so I could not have signed a loan because it is not my jurisdiction.

“What I signed is what they call commercial contract between the federal government and CCECC as the contractor, and the contract between Nigeria and China is usually signed by the ministry of finance on behalf of Nigeria.

“Whether it is the Ministry of Finance that signed it or the Ministry of Transportation, the issue is that there is nothing of such that will not warrant an agreement, and that agreement must contain some terms, and one of those terms in this agreement is not that we are signing away the sovereignty of the country. What we do is to give a sovereign guarantee.

“What it means is that if tomorrow I am not able to pay back the loan and you come to collect the item we agreed upon, I cannot waive my immunity and say that you cannot touch the assets, because we are a sovereign country. The terms say if we are not able to pay, we should not stop them from taking back those items that will make them recover their fund.

“The clause is a standard one whether it is America or Britain we sign an agreement with, because the countries want to know if they can recover their money.

“What the clause does is to say to you that I expect you to pay the money according to the terms agreed, and if you don’t pay, don’t waive your immunity on me when I come to collect back the guarantee that you put forward. That is all.

“I told them at the National Assembly that the probe may stop them from giving us the loan and we have the capacity to pay back. The good thing about the loan also is that they are paid directly to the contractor and not to us.”

On whether the National Assembly was carried along while applying for the loan, he said: “There is no loan in Nigeria that will not be approved by the National Assembly. The Chinese government will not even give you a loan without approval from the National Assembly.”

On whether the Chinese government will take over some infrastructure in Nigeria the way they did in Zambia, the minister said: “The only thing they will take over if payment is not made are those things constructed with the money.

“If the outcry is too much, then we will stop collecting loans, and when we stop, there will be no development. Before we came, there was money, but now we don’t have money. It is just that we are on oath not to reveal the government’s confidential matter. If not, I can say as the former chairman of the governors’ forum, what was in the purse.

“I thought that both the National Assembly and the country should at least acknowledge the fact that we are making progress in terms of infrastructural development.”

On the concerns generated by the terms of the agreement, he said: “I challenge the committee to publish the terms. The immunity clause and the sovereign guarantee in trade parlance simply mean that they are not giving us the loan free of charge.

“We took $1.6 billion to fix Lagos-Ibadan. We are asking for $5.3 billion to fix Ibadan-Kano, $3.2billion to fix Port Harcourt to Maiduguri, $11.1 billion for Lagos to Calabar. If those things were done when we had money, will we be here today?

“The National Assembly has the terms, and that is why I am wondering why they are investigating it, because it is unconstitutional to take a loan not approved by the National Assembly.

“The Chinese are asking us to show them evidence that we will pay back, and we have said we will waive our immunity clause so that if we don’t pay back, they will take back their assets.”

On the repayment plans, he said: “The Ministry of Finance is in the best position to answer that because mine is just to implement. The repayment is done by the Ministry of Finance and they are meeting the requirement.”

On the amount of loan the ministry was expecting or the ones taken so far, he said: “So far, the Ministry of Transportation got a loan of $500 million for Abuja-Kaduna. For Lagos to Ibadan, I think it is $1.3 billion that we took. The rest is counterpart funding from us. I think that is what we have collected.

“We are expecting others but the probe may stop that. And if it stops it, we won’t be able to construct other projects as proposed. What should be overriding now is national interest.

“And we need to construct Ibadan to Kano so that we can be able to evacuate cargoes from the ports. But what they are doing may stop that, and I am currently getting that signal from them.

“So if we go now and the Chinese say that they won’t give us money because the arm of government that is supposed to approve this loan and which has already approved the loan is beginning to question the loan, we are not sure that we can recover the loan. Then we are in trouble."

Politics / Buhari Should Handover To An Igbo Candidate- Ohanaeze by phylshan: 5:35pm On Jul 31, 2020
IT will be just and equitable for President Muhammadu Buhari to hand over to candidate from the Southeast in 2023, the Ohanaeze Youths said on Thursday.

It insisted that it was the turn of the Southeast to produce the President’s successor.

According to him, for equity, peace and justice to reign, Nigerians, especially the North, should support the Southeast in their bid.

“Buhari should hand over to an Igbo candidate in 2023. It is a glaring fact that it is the turn of the Southeast in 2023,” Dozie said.

To him, anything short of a President from the Southeast will not be fair to the region.

Also, President of Ohaneze Ndigbo in Anambra State, Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene, restated the organisation’s position that is the Southeast’s turn to produce President Buhari’s successor.

Dozie and Okeke-Ogene were reacting to a statement yesterday by past Secretary-General of Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Chief Anthony Sani, who said that President Buhari was not a product of rotation.

Dozie said the former ACF scribe was expressing his personal opinion.

Mallam Mamman Daura, President Buhari’s family member, stirred the hornet’s nest when he said in an interview with the Hausa Service of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) on Wednesday that only the most competent, irrespective of region, should be elected as President in 2023.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) distanced itself from Daura’s statement.

Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Yekini Nabena, said: “That is not our position but a personal opinion by an individual who happens to be a member of our party.”

Similarly, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) denounced Daura’s comments.

Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Diran Odeyemi, said: “We shall come up with our zoning formula which will define where our presidential candidate will come from.”

The Igbo apex socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, and the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) also faulted Daura for the comment.

Ohanaeze President-General, Chief Nnia Nwodo, through his media aide Chief Emeka Attamah, said: “All we know is that it is the turn of the South where we have abundant competent individuals who can steer the ship of this country, particularly among Ndigbo.”

Yesterday, Sani argued that Buhari was not a product of rotation.

The former ACF scribe said, aside from former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2011 and 2015, no fewer than 70 Presidential candidates contested against Buhari in 2019.

He said: “I find it curious when some groups like Ohanaeze would say that President Buhari was a product of national consensus on zoning or rotation of position of president to the North. The fact of history says no to that.

“I agree that the annulment of elections of June 12, 1993, morally blackmailed the nation into fielding General Obasanjo of PDP and Chief Olu Falai of AD/APP in 1999 to make up for the annulment and death of the winner, Chief MKO Abiola.

“I also agree that President Obasanjo wanted to enthrone politics of zoning and rotation when he foisted President Yar’Adua on the nation.

“But this did not last because apart from General Buhari’s bid in 2003 against President Obasanjo which was against letter and spirit of zoning/rotation, President Jonathan from the South contested against President Buhari from the North not only in 2011 but also in 2015.

“In 2019, of about 76 presidential candidates, about 70 were southerners. All these shows there is no national consensus on rotation and zoning that is binding on political parties.

“Therefore, it is either the proponents of politics of identity symbolised by rotation and zoning make it a law or they design a winning game plan and sell to the nation to secure their needed electoral mandate.

“The publicity secretary of ACF is right when he said yesterday (Thursday) that currently, rotation and zoning are still affairs of political parties and must be seen and treated as such in the interest of our multiparty democracy.”

Politics / Gowon: Pray For Buhari To Avoid Division In Nigeria by phylshan: 1:22pm On Jul 31, 2020
Former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon has expressed fears that Nigerian may go asunder if Nigerians don’t pray for President Muhammadu Buhari.

Gowon disclosed that there are people with sinister motives, who wouldn’t want peace to reign in the country.

Though, he acknowledged that Buhari is doing a lot, but the security challenges are still obvious in the country.

Gowon reemphasized that if Nigeria’s territorial integrity is undermined, Somalia will be a child’s play, warning that no one should be allowed to toil with the unity of the country.

He spoke in Abuja at the thanksgiving service and reception organized by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in honour of the newly appointed Executive Secretary, Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), Rev. Yakubu Pam.

Gowon who was represented by the Minister of Special Duties and Inter-governmental Affairs, Senator George Akume said: “Yakubu Pam has been sufficiently prepared by God to serve his people. I can testify to the fact that who the cap fits let him wear it. This commission is crucial and sensitive as one of the agencies of government.

“You are coming into the office at a time that we have very serious security challenges. We have made a lot of efforts to solve these problems along with people of other religion. That is why virtually everybody supported you for this position. It is an opportunity for you to do even more to bring peace to our country.

“We need peace to succeed. I know President Muhammadu Buhari is doing a lot but the challenges are still there. There are people with sinister motives, who wouldn’t want peace. But through prayers, I appeal to CAN to continue to pray not only for Yakubu Pam but for the president and all of us, and for your dear country, so that Nigeria will not go asunder. I once made a comment that this country is too big and versed with a population of over 200 million.

“A scholar said that we are structurally complex and pluraly diverted. If our territorial integrity is undermined, Somalia will be a child’s play. We don’t have to toil with our unity. You are in a very good position working closely with CAN and people of other faith so that together we can reestablish peace, push forward our agenda for our territorial integrity, push forward for our oneness so that together supporting the president, we can take our country to the next level, we have the human and material resources to take Nigeria to the next level”.

Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege also said that Nigeria needs religious tolerance.

Omo- Agege urged the newly appointed NCPC boss, to be an agent of change and propagate tolerance and love among Nigerians.

His words: “Firstly, I saw in your appointment, yet another testimony of a well-rounded peg in a round hole which is a big credit to the administration of His Excellency President Muhammadu Buhari. I say this with all sense of responsibility, given your passion for Christ, and your wealth of experience in shepherding the flock of the Lord.

“The second has to do with the need to sustain and improve intra-religious and inter-religious harmony among Nigerians for which you are well known, going by your records in your previous engagements in different positions as Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria of Northern Nigeria; Vice President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria and regional Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in 2016. In all these, you kept the faith as a bridge builder across Christian denominations and across religions”.

Omo- Agege said Pam is appointed at a time when Nigeria need to really espouse the tenets of the Christian Pilgrimage, stick to them and ensure that the spiritual rejuvenation and spiritual recharge which pilgrimages are meant to offer, are indeed reaped by all pilgrims.

He said: “I trust that you will bring your wealth of knowledge and experience in the teachings of Christ, to propagate tolerance and love in our country. As believers and disciples of Jesus Christ, we must follow his footsteps. We would want to see an order where visits to these grottos and sites evoke the passion of Christ and Christlikeness in those that visit them.

“The dividends of such evocation can only be imagined. It will be the spiritual force that will help take such pilgrims away from all forms of corruption both of the mind (where corruption actually begins from), and in their actions. It will help reduce violence of all manners, religious intolerance and brigandage.

“I am confident on your ability to raise the bar and improve the experience and outcome of Christian pilgrimage in Nigeria”.

CAN president, Rev. Samson Ayokunle urged the NCPC executive secretary to be courageous always and take the right steps no matter the situation.

Ayokunle advised him to always pray, adding that: “Entrenching good policies would be met with pockets of resistance. You must know however that you are the one to account to God about the running of the commission. Because of this, let no person intimidate when you are taking the right decision. The Lord encouraged Joshua to be strong and be of good courage. Joshua 1: 6-7, with courage as well, be ready to take risks but be led by the Spirit.

“People may hate you because you always stand for what is right but they can never deny your humility in service. Do not Lord it over those serving under you but gently and humbly carry them along in your leadership. Let them feel very important no matter how small the assignment you give to them may be. A humble leader would always appreciate the contributions of others. This appreciation is the reinforcement you would give them to do better in the subsequent assignment. Jesus washed his disciples’ feet. In your humble leadership, serve with your team and take good care of their welfare as Jesus did.”

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha urged Pam to perform with the fear of God in his new office.

Mustapha, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary on political affairs, assured him of full government support to succeed.

Politics / Ortom To Miyetti Allah: Your Vigilante Will Not Operate In Benue by phylshan: 12:19pm On Jul 31, 2020
Miyetti Allah Vigilante Will not operate in Benue State.

Following the news credited to the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore of setting up security outfit nationwide to carter for their security welfare, Terver Akase, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor of Benue State released a press statement warning the Fulani group never to approach Benue State. According to the CPS, “We read the statement credited to the Fulani socio-cultural association, Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, in which the group announced that it has established its security outfit called ‘Miyetti Allah Vigilante’ to operate nationwide.

“As much as we do not have any problem with Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore floating a security outfit in other states, it is important to say that such a vigilante group WILL NOT OPERATE IN BENUE STATE. Miyetti Allah has no constitutional right to establish a nationwide security outfit.

“Benue does not need the Miyetti Allah vigilante. The State Government is working with conventional security forces and has already established a vigilante group at the state, local government and ward levels. This is evident in the ongoing recruitment of personnel for Community Policing who will soon be trained as recommended by Inspector General of Police.

The idea of running a nationwide vigilante group is a mere strategy by the Fulani socio-cultural organization to elevate their nefarious and inhuman activities to another level. They have repeatedly claimed responsibility for the killing of thousands of children, women and other vulnerable people in different states, yet, members of the group walk freely in Abuja and hold press conferences threatening to unleash terror on the people of this country.

We once more call for the arrest and prosecution of officials of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, to end the spate of crime in the country.

“We urge the Federal Government to stop looking elsewhere for bandits who have been killing innocent Nigerians. Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore are coordinators of banditry in the country, and officials of the group reside in Abuja.”
