This is some serious comic relief. |
Asking Clinton to be his VP will be the greatest mistake Obama will ever make. She (Clinton) has shown herself to be a fiercely ambtious woman not just during these past elections but since her time as first lady. Imagine her refusing to concede defeat or congratulate Obama even though she had clearly lost the race. A Clinton VP means if anything happens to the President, she takes over. Yes, she would lend serious weight to the general elections and if Obama succeeeds in becoming President, I wouldnt rule out a grand conspiracy to "eliminate" him and pave way for Clinton to become President. |

@ Anataala Quite interesting. The card range is between $2,000 and $10,000 but you managed to spend $15,000??. You must know someone right at the top, Maybe Jim himself eh? ![]() |
Well, I use a GTBank mastercard and can confirm it has worked on a couple of internet sites. Not sure if it is widely accepted though. I am however surprised that no one has mentioned anything on the POS charge, $6.50 per transaction!!! So everytime you use your card at a point of sale overseas, you are charged that amount. I was livid when I got my first bill because they hid that fact from me when marketing the product. Its the highest I've come across anywhere in the world. Most annoying entry was a tiny $17 grocery shopping that turned to $23.50 in my bill. Crooks!! |
I was about to start a similar thread, Good thing someone already did. Westerhof in my own view is the man best positioned to take us forward at this stage. One thing we fail to realise is the extreme politics played at the NFA. Apart from his technical ineptitude, Berti Vogts still did not understand NFA politics. Westerhof has been there before and he thrived despite NFA politics. Our best outing to date has been under his regime, winning the nations cup and doing ever so well in the world cup. Many may argue that he hasnt peformed well in other countries since Nigeria but the truth is, those countries cannot boast of the depth of talent Nigeria has. The man may be looking for a job at the moment but who better to employ at this stage than Westerhof? He has a passion for Nigeria, knows the game (did anyone care to listen to his comments and suggestions on super sport?) and most importantly knows our football politics. Even if we hired Arsene Wenger tomorrow, he will fail if made to work under that failed body called NFA as it is presently constituted. There needs to be a total reform in that house. Why in the world dont we have the likes of Segun Odegbami running the association? I guess that is another topic for debate. |
Has it dawned on anyone that we all may have been taken for a ride by FirstBank during their recently concluded hybrid offer? I just got my money returned to me and did a little math to see how we could have helped some bank managers get richer. Being a current shareholder, I tried to take advantage of the rights issue (N31) and applied for roughly 161,290 shares which translates to a N5m investment. When word about the oversubscription started to go round, I knew I would get some money returned to me. How much however, I had no clue. When my stock broker notified me of the returned check, I found out I was allotted just over 8000 shares (5%) out of the lot I applied for. My returned check was for N4.75m exactly. As if this was not enough insult, no interest was paid on the money. Bear in mind here that I incured a N25,000 COT bill to make the money available to my brokers in the first place. Now the story is that the offer was oversubscribed to the tune of N500bn. Between august 2007 and jan 2008, you have a clear 4 months for which if that money was placed (and you can bet on the fact that it was) at 12% per annum, you will end up with a cool N5bn per month. In 3 months, some smart managers would have banked N15bn at the expense of investors!!!! Now our monies are returned to us interest free. How criminal. EFCC needs to look at this matter closely. |
Hello Nairalanders, Just wondering if anyone has any great shopping stories to share about Dubai. So far, its the tourist attractions that stand it out. Shopping has not been as cheap as I was made to believe before coming. Infact, several items have proven more expensive here than in the US or UK. So much for the tax free propaganda. Take for example a Fuji Camera I saw in Dubai for about $411. Turns out to be 149 pounds in the UK (online store). Apart from the gold (which I am yet to try out), can anyone please suggest what comes cheap in Dubai compared to the rest of the world!!!! |
Thanks Almondjoy, but any reason why you cannot refer me to your agent? |
Hi there, I plan on visiting Dubai early january (for roughly 2 weeks) with the wife and 2 yr old son. On a modest budget, what is the best advise you can give regarding accomodation and local transporation? I know I can get information on the web but nothing beats tips from someone who's had a first hand experience. Thanks, |
Only one person springs to mind, "Simply Me", That woman is Haittt!!!! |
Some people simply dont have that thing called pride. If the news making the rounds are anything to go by, then "Senator" Afikuyomi is set to become a commissioner in Lagos state. It is obvious he is used to living off government and doesnt care at what level he gets to do this. He wont at least have to pay rent, maintain cars, staff, etc for another 4 years, and oh by the way, the chance to milk Nigeria (Lagos State) further. It is such a shame and one wonders where the lines will be drawn. Has anyone taken a look at Fashola's list of commissioners? Every "big" family in Lagos state has a commissioner on that list. God help us. |
To start with, news has it that the position has been zoned to the North Central region http://www.independentngonline.com/?c=181&a=25853. We must all be thankful for that because had they stuck to earlier plans, we would have had an Adedibu as a strong contender. That man has done enough damage in Oyo state and one can only imagine the influence he would have on Nigerians if his son became senate president. It also means we wont have another Obasanjo in such an exalted position. The one wey dem do don do. |

News from the grape vine, President Olusegun Obasanjo is reported to have appointed EFCC boss, Nuhu Ribadu, as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP). Such a decision according to analysts will lead to the retirement of top officers of the police particularly the deputy inspectors-general (DIGs) and assistant inspectors-general (AIGs). Ribadu, who was re-appointed for a second term of four years as the EFCC Chairman on April 10 and also elevated to the rank of Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police, is to take over from Sunday Ehindero. Sources said both President Olusegun Obasanjo and the President-elect, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, have already ratified Ribadu’s appointment as police boss. The announcement is expected to be made within the next few days. Ribadu is expected to be sworn in before May 29 when Obasanjo would hand over to Yar’Adua. |
It is no news that the election process was marred by widespread irregularities and many unfortunate deaths. What seems certain however is that Yar'adua will be sworn in come May 29th (God help us). It would be interesting to see if thesame people who rightly condemned the election process turn around to "hail the new king". |
Does everyone agree that this is probably the fastest moving thread on Nairaland to date? Just posted yesterday and we have about 8 pages of replies in less than 24hrs!! However, I guess its best to leave that statistic to Seun. To the topic at hand, as Nigerians, we are all affected by this negative but actual reality. Though we all know who the masters of the trade are, to the Americans and indeed the rest of the world, we are all Nigerians and as such, possible fraudsters. Oprahs show on Nigeria surely will be a bitter pill to swallow but its a positve move towards ridding the world of of these miscreants. When the world becomes aware, it will get much more difficult for the yahoo yahoo boys to ply their trade and in time (hopefuly), look for other ways of earning an honest living. I might be aiming high here but unless something as drastic as Oprah has done, we will not see an end to this. |
Between Brad Pitt and Claire Forlani in MEET JOE BLACK (1998), off the hook!!!! |
What a story. Trying to impress who? 300 on 3rd mainland and second pair of hands takes a perfectly steady picture!! Straight for the lagoon!!. |
What is the documentation status like? Was it shipped through Cotonu or a Naija port? Customs card etc available?? |
Silly old twarts. Wait till you hear the billions that will be spent on the new kit. Billions that should have been used to pay improved salaries, hence improved performance. Someone has certainly gotten richer, no be Naija?? |
Most shameful news in recent past. I hold my face in my hands, I weep for the "failed" state called Nigeria |
This is a simple case of being caught between the devil and the deep blue sea. The major power behind Obasanjo's rise to Aso Rock was the support of the late Yar'Adua's mammoth PDM. Leadership of this movement was handed over to Atiku (somehow) and that was why he got the VP slot in the first place with the promise that after the first term, he will take over as President. Now OBJ has brought out an obscure (but full blooded) Yar'Adua jnr merely to checkmate Atiku's power in the PDM. Problem is, in eight years, we never heard anything of this Yar'Adua and I for one didnt even know he was a serving governor. Is this the timid man we expect to rule over the beast called Nigeria? That was a master stroke by OBJ and in my own view, its a defacto third term for OBJ as he will continue to call the shots from Abeokuta. Buhari on the other hand is an irony. He never believed in democracy and is somewhat of a religious extremist. But I give it to the guy that he has the strong hands required to straighten up this corruption ridden country of ours. Remember WAI? It was a dictatorial era but the message clearly got to Nigerians. I am definately not in support of strong armed tactics but how else can one explain the fact Alamasiegha's or Tafa Balogun's huge fall from grace has failed to leave an indelible mark on the incumbent governors? It actually seems to be getting worse and we need a Jerry Rawlings like clean up before we can see the light of day in this country. With the options presented to us at the moment, the only man that can deliver that is Buhari. All they need to do is have a strong christian VP to check his religious excesses. |
![]() I beg to disagree vehemently. Even if it is the total package like you are trying to point out, it still doesnt come anywhere near (for entry level I must emphasize). A figure like 250-300k a month is more like it and I can say "I know too" because I am in the industry. Nigeria is fast improving and we thank God for that but we are yet to hit the $5000 a month salary mark for entry level. |
Or cancelled altogether, |
@ Ruescho: Your frequent flyer program must be more open then because its not possible to see online when the award seats are available on the Flying Blue program of AF. Besides, I am trying to book the flight for April and to think this is January and its already not available, I wonder if it will ever be. @ Igbonla: Thanks, will look at that approach as well. |
Am I the only one who's been conned into sticking to an airline with the lure of frequent flyer miles? I have been flying AirFrance for about 4 years now and accrued enough miles to get me 2 round trip tickets to the US from Lagos. Funny thing is when I go online to book an award ticket, there is never a "flight available on the dates chosen, please select another date". However, if I do a flight search as a regular user with the aim of paying, I see so many flights available on different days. What a scam this is. Sad thing is I have stayed loyal to the airline even when flying to the UK just so I could increase my mileage stack. People beware of the scam called Frequent Flyer Miles, Its simply a sophisticated 419 ploy. |
I got a neat 2000 model for 6,000Euros. By the time I paid shipping (VIP) to Naija, duty and all, it landed at about 1.4mil. |
Its all on the internet, if you know how to use it, Yes, he is a Nigerian. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chamillionaire |
It is being touted that SWP might be on his way to West Ham. That silly young man!! If only he listened to the hearts of the very many of us that wanted him at Arsenal, he would have by now established himself as the true star that he is. Many felt that he made a stupid move by turning down Arsenal for Chelsea, and now he must be kicking himself, HARD!! How nice it would have been to follow in his dads footsteps, Well, too late now. |
I think the film "Ti Oluwa ni ile", (The land belongs to God) is probably the funniest ever made , a little old tho. But that is a great yardstick for measuring funny. The only hitch though, its in yoruba but I am quite sure any yoruba fellow that has seen the film will attest to the fact. |
