The H.265 codec brings Ultra HDTV resolution in 2013 Just got a new, shiny 50” Full HD (1080p) TV set for your home video needs? Prepare to purchase something newer, shinier and with a much, much higher resolution soon. The Joint Collaborative Team on Video Coding reached a new milestone for the H.265 video codec during the past week, and is about to unleash the new “monster” video standard within the next year. The H.265 video codec, also known as High Efficiency Video Coding or HEVC, is being designed to replace the current H.264 standard used for high definition and Full HD (1920x1080) video encoding and decoding. The Joint Collaborative Team, a collaboration effort between the Motion Picture Experts Group (MPEG) and ITU-T, has just achieved a “committee draft” in a meeting in San Jose. The new video standard is expected to provide a huge difference in data transmission and streaming efficiency compared to the previous one, with one of the speakers present at the meeting suggesting a 67% improvement. H.265 will be designed to support new, still to be created video delivery and streaming technologies from day one, including devices working at 4K and Ultra HDTV (also known as 8K or 4320p) resolutions. Just to put things in perspective, the Ultra HDTV definition contains about 16 times the amount of pixels present in a 1080p video stream. Before appearing on the market as a proper video standard, H.265 will have to achieve two more milestones: the draft international standard meeting is expected to be held within six months from now and the final standard ratification should arrive in January 2013. However, like any other work of technology, there are disadvantages to accompany the advantages. That is, Ultra HD video and audio – in its uncompressed format – may require huge storage volumes (3.5 TB for an 18 minute video). |
Longer Delay For SES-5 Launch Aboard Proton M UPDATE: The Interfax news agency has announced that the rescheduled launch date for SES-5 from the Baikonur Cosmodrome is August 6, 2012. It was originally scheduled for 18 June, then delayed 24 hours and now postponed to August. The launch is being delayed due to a problem with a first stage subsystem on the Proton launch vehicle. The rocket has been rolled back to the assembly building for further tests. SES-5 is also known as Sirius 5 stemming from the development of the Sirius satellite constellation by Nordic Satellite AB, now owned by Luxembourg's SES. SES-5 is to be stationed at 5 degrees east longitude. |

SES-5 Launch Delayed By Issue In Steering System Satellite operator SES is going to have to wait an extra day for the launch of its extremely important SES-5 craft. Originally scheduled for June 19/20 it has slipped 24 hours because of “technical problems” with the 58m high Proton/M launch rocket. The satellite is fine. The launch will now take place on the ‘shortest’ night of the year, June 21st, at 12.24am Kazakhstan time. SES-5 is scheduled to be placed into an orbital slot at 5 degrees East. SES-5 is a comprehensively-equipped satellite, carrying 24-C-band transponders, 36 Ku-band transponders, as well as an L-band payload for the European Space Agency. |

You know, members here were about to skin us alive. They are not happy because Gurus are not responding to the questions. ![]() |
Kungu: Good Evening George,I totally agree with you. Aljazeera just presents the news as it is while these other networks concentrate on the negatives of Africa. ![]() |
verwegsateliet: hi like know if i did soemthing wrong as nobody answers any of my posts or my topic need desperatly helpNothing wrong bro. May be try to rephrase the question again. @All Could those that are in a better position try and assist this brother of ours? |
George_D: @Pidzo,You surely know BB, they try to squeeze all FTA avenues. They know here in southern Africa most people with KU band dishes dont subscribe to BB, they enjoy FTA that includes these SABC channels. ![]() |
Kungu: Good Morning George,This is news worth waiting for. I once wrote to the BBC asking them the logic of giving Africa an Arabic FTA channel when they know pretty well that the majority of Sub Saharan Africans dont speak Arabic. The conversation was fine. It's my hope that this channel will last. ![]() |
Southern Africa To Continue Enjoying SABC As Sentech fights blackout order MILLIONS of Southern Africans viewing free-to-air South African TV channels are likely to continue receiving the service for several more months after a South African firm responsible for the signal challenged a court ruling directing it to end the piracy. Botswana broadcaster eBotswana, a sister channel to South Africa’s etv, won a lawsuit in the Johannesburg High Court in February against the state-owned signal carrier, Sentech. The court ordered Sentech to "take all reasonable steps necessary" to encrypt its signal within the next three months, after finding it guilty of being "wrongful, negligent and in breach" over its failure to prevent broadcast piracy. The three-month transmission grace period ended on May 31, but Sentech have appealed against the court ruling – meaning millions of people in the SADC region who receive the free channels including SABC 1, 2 and 3 will continue to do so pending the outcome of the appeal. SABC say they have no control over the signal, and lay the blame squarely at the feet of Sentech. Spokesman Kaizer Kganyago told South Africa’s Business Day: "We broadcast in SA and Sentech is in charge of ensuring the signal is protected and stays in SA. Anybody who is not in SA and is watching SABC content terrestrially is doing so illegally." eBotswana General Manager Dave Coles said Monday that Sentech lodged the appeal in May, and had so far not paid the P10 million damages award nor encrypted its signal. Free-to-air decoders including Wiztech, Fortec Star and Philibao have created a booming market for satellite TV viewership in Zimbabwe, Namibia, Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique and Botswana. MultiChoice, which offers pay-TV on its DStv platform, is eyeing massive benefits from the looming blackout. |

I Hacked: When do Ghana, Nigeria,Zambia,Togo,Kenya,Uganda,Mali,Malawi, and others can also do this?Very good observation bro. The moment we stop this 'Pull Him Down Syndrome' and corruption and think where we Africans are coming from, we will be greater than the rest of the world. Ancient Africa was great but when we allowed ourselves to be 'civilised' by whites we lost it. Africa was great, see this: http://churchofcriticalthinking.org/dogon.html or http://www.timstouse.com/EarthHistory/Egypt/GreatPyramid/interestingfacts.htm and many other sites. The whiteman is busy right now making policies that will make Africa remain as it is, and we clap hands. |
toba: This matter doesnt worth being dragged any further. stick to your views, whilst i stick to mine. Thanks this time. Where was this wise approach all along? God bless you bro. |
toba: Playing the victim card or whining doesnt help anyone's case.My friend, this line of argument wont help anybody in this forum. People here, in this forum, know me because of FOOTBALL and not baseless arguments. Havent people been given answers to the questions that they have been asking since 10th June when this started? Do you contribute to this Football thread regulary? Do you think people visit this FTA Live Football Matches Announcement thread to learn how to track W3a? We have argued for too long now and can this madness stop. You might be ONE OF THE OLDEST MEMBERS IN THIS SECTION but your words are not LAW. Things change and currently people agreed to stick to the rules. In this forum we post Football Updates and nothing else. This time NO APOLOGIES. |
When alternative views are no longer 'viable' the wise STOP. I dont see any substance now, chit-chat all the way. Going round and round, 'you are missing the point' etc. Looks like ALL the points have been missed ![]() Akinige(m): Quote PostThanks bro. MIne was just a reminder but looks like others want to 'turn dis forum to national assembly, where political member throwing stones of word to each other' @All Can we please do what we have been doing all along by posting in the right thread so that fellow members can ably assist us. Some are failing to provide help as we are posting wrong topics in this thread. |
toba: calm ur nerves guy. this isnt about u personally but in generalized term. thats the point u are missingThats where you TOO are getting it wrong. I am not agitated, just responding to something worth responding to. When I reminded the house to remember our focus what was your immediate response? at times stuffs like digression do occur and it would only be polite to respond to people that needs responses where ever.I have seen this digression degenerating into chaos in this forum, everybody posting everything, everywhere. When we stop discussing real issues and start quarrelling very few Gurus come to bring back peace in this house (respect to you George D, you are there most of the time). When you responded by saying Im telling u this, as one of the oldest member in this sectionit's when I realised that this is personal. If I was agitated I would have been responding to statements like these u are still missing the point young manwith corresponding terminology. As an experienced member I am not convinced you are taking this forum seriously and in the right direction. When each of your sentence has a demeaning term in it and you try to tell us who you are and not let us know you by your WISE words it speaks volumes. |
u are still missing the point young man.Signs that one is really lost. I HAVE ACCEPTED DIGRESSION and yet I am missing the point What u responded to centred around a sponteneous reaction based on the ongoing football competition thats being viewed on FTA.I am sorry, my emphasis is not ONLY for the current games. I have ALWAYS begged people to stick to posting in the right thread and that has been the general consesus. If I was overzealous I would have said what I have said the moment people stopped posting about FTA LIVE FOOTBALL MATCHES ANNOUNCEMENT on June 10 and instead started asking questions about satellite tracking. 3356. TOWNJUJU: Quote Post |
toba: i agree but arrogance in response shouldnt be the right way to 'correct' as most newbies here seldom doNo arrogance in response. I started my first post with, "Can we please discuss satellite tracking in the right thread." Any arrogance there? I have accepted 'digression' but you cannot tell me here that although it is 'sponteneous' then it is UNLIMITED! |
toba: at times stuffs like digression do occur and it would only be polite to respond to people that needs responses where ever.Thank you that you are the OLDEST member. But have you seen that we are no longer discussing FOOTBALL UPDATES and instead its now technical issues? Much as I appreciate that 'digression do occur' people also need to be reminded the main focus of a particular thread. That 'digression' has to have a LIMIT for sanity to prevail. |
SES 5 (Sirius 5) Prepared For Launch. Launch Preparations continue at the Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan, to get an International Launch Services Proton-M/Briz-M Rocket ready for blastoff on Tuesday, June 19 to start a 9-hour, 12-minute mission to deliver the SES 5 Communications Satellite to Geostationary Transfer Orbit. SES 5, also called Sirius 5, is a commercial communications Satellite that was built by Space Systems/Loral and is operated by SES World Skies. It will become part of the SES Fleet of Satellites. It will be operational for at least 15 years providing high performance and extensive coverage for direct-to-home broadcasting, broadband, point-to-point, and VSAT services in Europe and Africa. Designed to be located at 5 degrees East, it is configured with two Ku-band beams, one serving customers in the Nordic and Baltic countries and the other serving Sub-Saharan Africa. It has a total of 36 active Ku-band transponders available. The spacecraft also has two C-band beams, one with global coverage and one with hemispheric coverage, which can be operated with up to 24 active C-band transponders. The satellite design also includes a Ka-band uplink capability, allowing for flexible operations between Europe and Africa. The secondary payload is an L-band system for the European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service (EGNOS), which is being developed by the European Space Agency (ESA) and the European Commission (EC). |
