United Could Give Buttner Debut Manchester United could hand a Premier League debut to new signing Alexander Buttner in Saturday’s clash with Wigan, according to newspaper speculation. The Daily Mail claims Sir Alex Ferguson could hand the £3.9million summer a signing his first Premier League signing after it claimed Patrice Evra looked ‘edgy’ in United’s opening three games of the season. United take on the Latics on Saturday followed by a Champions League clash with Galatasaray on Wednesday and Sir Alex may choose to keep the 31-year-old Evra fresh for what is always an awkward clash with the Turkish giants. United signed Buttner as competition for Evra in the left-back slot following the departure on loan to QPR of Fabio da Silva. |

Arsenal rocked: Injured Diaby in Van Persie mould Arsenal suffered a major blow ahead of their Premier League clash against Southampton this weekend with midfield general Abou Diaby picking up a muscle injury. Arsenal's Diaby saga is increasingly taking on a Robin Van Persie hue. Untold wealth of talent hampered by injury. Then, coming back from injury, talent revealed. Become the mainstay and heart of Arsenal team. Sold. Diaby has completed acts one and two of the four-part drama. If this injury is not serious, he will get his chance for act three. Only Arsene Wenger can change act four. The France midfielder is likely to miss Tuesday's World Cup Group I qualifier with Belarus after feeling muscle pain. The Arsenal star, who scored the only goal in Friday's victory in Finland, has an unspecified muscle problem and is a doubtful starter for the game at the Stade de France. "He took a bad knock (against Finland) and won't train today," coach Didier Deschamps told a news conference before adding that defender Gael Clichy was also injured. "They both will struggle to make it." Diaby's career has been plagued by injuries. He played only four games for Arsenal last season and missed Euro 2012. But he has been the engine of Arsenal's midfield this season ala Yaya Toure of Manchester City, inspiring the Gunners to victory against Liverpool at Anfield. But he would be a doubtful starter when Arsenal host Southampton this weekend. However, the good news is that Olivier Giroud is fit. Deschamps said Arsenal's new striker Giroud, who missed the Finland game, was fit again but did not confirm he would play. |
DISASTER For England With Walcott Out As Team Is Struck Down By VIRUS ROY HODGSON faces an anxious wait in the build-up to tonight’s World Cup qualifier against Ukraine after the England camp was struck by a virus. Theo Walcott trained well on Sunday, but yesterday he was hit with a severe stomach upset. Striker Daniel Sturridge is also suffering from stomach cramps. Walcott was immediately sent home to minimise the risk of other players picking up the virus. And Sturridge was kept in effective quarantine at the team’s training base, although he is expected to be fit for tonight. Coach Hodgson reacted swiftly, summoning in Adam Lallana of Southampton, Liverpool’s 17-year-old Raheem Sterling and Jake Livermore from Tottenham. |
Nani told to be quiet The Daily Mirror claim that the Portuguese star has been unsettled by a proposed move to Zenit St Petersburg falling apart as the transfer window closed, and by contract talks breaking down with the Red Devils. According to the paper, Nani feels let down by the club over the lack of a new deal, while United are angered by reports that the player intends to run down his contract and leave for free. So with all that ‘he said, she said’ fare played across the papers, perhaps the only sensible thing to do is to stop bickering and play some football. There’s talk of another foreign player seeking a move away from the Premier League, as Chelsea midfielder Oriol Romeu eyes a return to Spain with Valencia. Despite being highly thought of at Stamford Bridge, the Daily Star claims, the 20-year-old has not played a great deal under Roberto Di Matteo, and Valencia sent scouts to watch him in Under-21 action for his country last night. He can return to Barcelona, his former club, for £12m thanks to a clause in his Chelsea contract, but the Catalan side are apparently prepared to step aside and let Valencia make their move. |
Reality TV Show Reveals Liverpool's Off-Season Struggles EPL club Liverpool's "transfer window bungling is exposed in the first episode of a fly-on-the-wall TV series about the club," according to Nick Harris of the London DAILY MAIL. In the six-part documentary, Manager Brendan Rodgers insists, "it would 'take something incredible' for Andy Carroll to leave -- not long before the striker departs to join West Ham." The show, which begins on Channel 5 on Sept. 21, "will add to the controversy over the club's American owners Fenway Sports Group." It shows Rodgers "staunchly defending 23-year-old Carroll," only for the Geordie forward to be shipped out to West Ham on loan. The makers of the series, called "Being: Liverpool," have been given "unprecedented access to the club and players." The biggest story of Liverpool's summer "was the sacking of club legend Kenny Dalglish as manager." The moment of Dalgish's sacking is not shown, which raises questions over how much Liverpool, as partners in the venture, has been able to "sanitise" the final cut. A senior spokesperson for FOX, which is screening the series in the U.S. said last week that Dalgish's sacking would be featured in the first episode. He also said that "the hunt for Dalgish's successor would be in the first show" |
Samsung Renews Its $24M Jersey Deal With Chelsea Samsung Electronics "took up an option" to renew its £15M ($23.9M) yearly jersey sponsorship with Chelsea FC through 2015, according to Tariq Panja of BLOOMBERG. The UEFA Champions League winners originally "signed a partnership agreement" with the South Korean electronics manufacturer in 2005. In a statement, the club said, "Samsung have exercised their right to extend their deal, which will see them remain as a premium partner of the club until the end of May 2015." Chelsea’s contract with Samsung is one of the largest in English football, "though lower than the sums negotiated" by Premier League rivals ManU and Liverpool. In July, ManU announced it had signed a seven-year $559M deal with General Motors Co. for its Chevrolet brand to replace Aon Corp as the team’s lead sponsor from 2014. |

Arsène Wenger believes Nicklas Bendtner has a future at Arsenal Arsène Wenger has indicated that he sees a future for Nicklas Bendtner at Arsenal despite sending the striker on loan for a second successive season. Bendtner joined the Italian champions Juventus last month and will stay with them for the entire 2012-13 campaign, having spent the 2011-12 season with Sunderland in the Premier League. The Denmark international made no secret of his desire to leave the Emirates when he returned in pre-season, but ultimately he sealed only another temporary switch away from Arsenal. Wenger, speaking at the Uefa elite club coaches forum in Switzerland, believes the 24-year-old has what it takes to succeed at the highest level, and that could still be at Arsenal, despite Bendtner failing to claim a regular first-team place at the Emirates. |
Uefa withholds prize money from 23 clubs in first fair play sanctions Uefa has withheld 23 clubs' share of European prize money due to their failure to pay debts to other clubs or tax bills. The clubs include some famous names in European football such as Atlético Madrid, Sporting Lisbon, Fenerbahce and Málaga, but no British sides. The sanctions follow the first elements of Uefa's financial fair play rules coming into force regarding unpaid debts, with the prize money temporarily withheld pending further investigation. The action was taken by the Uefa club financial control body (CFCB) investigatory chamber, chaired by the former Belgian prime minister Jean-Luc Dehaene. Uefa said in a statement: "The clubs participating in Uefa club competitions had to provide information regarding the status of any overdue payables as at 30 June 2012. The CFCB investigatory chamber has identified that important overdue payables towards other clubs, and/or towards employees or social/tax authorities existed in 23 cases." |
Guardiola has 'held talks over succeeding Fergie at Man United' Sir Alex Ferguson has met Pep Guardiola in New York to discuss the possibility of the Spaniard succeeding him as Manchester United manager next summer, according to reports in Spain. Ferguson will turn 71 on New Year's Eve and there are questions as to how long his 26-year reign at Old Trafford can continue. And El Mundo Deportivo has claimed that Ferguson met Guardiola in New York this summer to discuss a potential succession plan. Guardiola is taking a break from football following his stunningly successful four-year spell in charge of Barcelona, but the newspaper claim that Ferguson wants the 41-year-old to return to management at Old Trafford. Not only that, they say the reason Guardiola chose to live in New York for a year was so he could learn English better enabling him to take over when Sir Alex Ferguson calls it a day, which Mundo reckon will be next July. And they report that Ferguson is planning to step down this summer after his attempt to wrestle the Premier League trophy back from Manchester City, with Guardiola his preferred replacement. |

Chinese expand African TV investment fund China’s Africa Development Fund and its China Development Bank are to extend its investment strategy into African digital TV. Since 2007 around $100 million has already been directly invested, and the president of the fund, Chi Jianxin, says another $50 million has been earmarked for further investment. There could also be more given that the Bank says that it has $400 million on offer for suitable projects, which could be doubled. The Fund claims that, to date, some 1.4 million people in 14 different African countries are viewing digital TV as a result of the Chinese involvement in the StarTimes-backed ventures. StarTimes claims 7 million pay-TV subscribers in China. StarTimes transmits terrestrially using Eutelsat (at 10 degrees East) for its local distribution, and has activities in Kenya, Burundi, Nigeria, Tanzania, Central African Rep., and elsewhere. |

You always throw caution to wind by your continous posting of dongles and allied gadgets in this WRONG thread which should always talk about Football. Your argument that: "so also some decorder can unscramble some paid tv and thereby mak it free to air." doesn't hold water. The fact that some illegal gadget is ILLEGALLY UNSCRAMBLING DSTV channnels doesn't make it FTA. You cannot tell me here that SuperSport3 has turned FTA overnight simply because some Hawk Dongle is illegally unscrambling it. You are making it worse by clinging to your unfounded notion that by posting in this thread more people will read it hence making more sales. I wouldn't have raised an eye brow if you were posting in the general thread where "Anything Goes". But insisting on posting about unrelated topics to FOOTBALL is surely irritating. |
esekem: i do not know what this forum has turned into, where the owners of this site have decided to join hands with dupes and cheats to defraud people in the name of sellin dongles to people and they end up being cheated or tricked of their moneys, pls do not buy dongles or liberty decoders it will only work for at most three week then pack up then they will tell u of another software or ic or cable or another box, i dnt know if hot&holy is thesame person as 0luwaseun Osewa stop being fraudulent and retain ur good name and intergritywell said. I wonder why people are allowed to promote their scams here. I remember I was almost skinned alive last time when I promoted dongle discusssion in the right thread, NOT even in this FTA Live Football Matches Announcement Thread! I succumbed to the pressure from my SENIORS and agreed to follow RULES. I wonder why this time it is OK to discuss dongles here when even every Jim and Jack knows dongles DONT WORK. Newbies are busy requesting for phone numbers or emails from these scammers with the belief that they will enjoy D**V service at a cheaper cost. Sorry people, you are buying more sorrow than happiness. Mr Moderator, ban any member who continues to post about these ILLEGAL gadgets in this Football thread. I just cant stand this rubbish. |

We are providing leading TV and radio channels with the opportunity to reach this continent with a huge population. RRsat has expanded its sales force for this region, and we see good opportunities for continuing growth." Louise Duffy |

The Power of Sport and Television for Africa Television has transformed the FIFA World Cup, Olympic Games, and European Football Champions League into lucrative multi-billion-dollar undertakings creating a frenzy of bidding for the TV rights for the events. TV Networks and sports marketing agents jostle to secure the rights to these and many other events. Globally, sport is now estimated to be a US$800-billion (£510-billion/€594-billion) industry (www.insidethegames.org). The bulk of this revenue emanates from broadcasting rights. Taking into account these phenomenal developments of our time, many countries, regions and continents are strategically positioning themselves to benefit from the sport industry by way of hosting mega events, with all the other accompanying perks, television rights included. Sport has become an important driver of tourism. Sadly, Africa and more importantly for us, Southern Africa, has been too slow in waking up from its slumber as the significant growth markets in the industry are now found in Europe, Asia, North and South America. When it comes to exploiting the power of television, the African situation has not been assisted by the fragmentation of the continent into the Anglophone, Francophone, Arabic and Lusophone formations. This has made the development of uniform or harmonised services for the continent very difficult. The existence of the African Union of Broadcasting (AUB), formerly the Union of Radio and Television Networks of Africa (URTNA), has not made much difference. This is because the AUB is made up of mostly government representatives of broadcasting and television authorities on the continent whose operational motive is not commercialisation or liberalisation of the airwaves. The liberalisation of the airwaves is one of the critical hallmarks of freedom of expression and economic development. Privately owned TV channels help to generate employment as well as wealth in any country and sport becomes a major beneficiary as broadcast rights are lucrative commodities where bidders are prepared to pay top dollar for them. As long as the state governments continue to exercise tight control of the airwaves, it will be very difficult to exploit the power of television in the development of sport and emergence of professionalism The advent of democracy in South Africa has seen the gradual rise of Supersport as a giant on the continent. Supersport is a South African group of television channels owned by Naspers Company listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) and broadcast on the DStv platform. DStv, with its stranglehold on the broadcast of rights of major European soccer leagues, among other valuable properties, now has an unhealthy and iron-fisted monopoly of Pay TV not just in Southern Africa but in Anglophone Sub-Saharan Africa. However, a competitor for DStv has emerged in the form of the Chinese company, Star Times, which now has an estimated 600 000 subscribers in East and West Africa. There is also a plethora of service providers in the North Africa catering for mostly the Arabic-speaking populations as well as others in French-speaking Africa. There is therefore no homogenous market for free-to-air or Pay TV service providers on the African continent. However, this should not be seen as an obstacle but a challenge for driving innovation and change for the African market supported by the AUB. The AUB should be on the forefront of facilitating this much-needed transformation, which will ultimately benefit the Africa continent as a whole. The power of sport and television as well other communications tools, including their continued exploitation is now being perfected through emergence of organisations such as Sportel based in Monaco. Sportel is a global forum, which every year unites various key players and stakeholders to exchange ideas, information and experiences in the industry. If it is not an embarrassment, the fact that only 1 percent of participants at the 2011 Sportel event in Monaco were from the African continent, speaks volumes about the level of development and the seriousness related to the business of sport on the African continent. This needs to change if Africa is to get her fair share of the cake in the global sports industry. This change cannot happen overnight but it has to be started somewhere at the top table of African affairs where there is the African Union (AU), the AUB, ANOCA and various African Sports Confederations. However, Southern Africa, given its relative homogeneity cannot be a passive bystander in this matter. The state-owned television authorities working in conjunction with sports authorities represented by the Supreme Council for Sport in Africa (SCSA Zone VI, the Confederation of Southern African National Olympic Committees (COSANOC) and Zonal Sports Confederations need to establish a permanent forum to deal with issues of television and sport for the region. They need to come up with mutually beneficial solutions that will transcend the borders of the region. There is a dire need to use the power of television to energise the development of sport in Southern Africa, to accelerate the drive towards excellence and professionalism. AFP |
