ballamy:That's the way to proceed. In a family, when a parent rebukes the child, does the child move away to start living with the neighbour? NO. He stays put! Ballamy, you are cool. One love indeed. ![]() |
pofolo:Well said my Oga. This has been said a million times but it seems we are not making any headway. People ask things that are a few lines behind, why? They don't read. We are moving away from the 'Old Nairaland' and moving to one where chaos rules. The problem is that when someone asks his or her 'reasonable' question and members ignore him (to force him/her to read) someone will still come to 'the rescue' with an answer making the one asking more lazy. If you tell someone who is asking an already tackled problem to read a few pages back some one will surely come to his 'rescue'. Pages are being filled with repetitive questions and answers. It's becoming boring ![]() |

ballamy:I will not answer your question about cost of 1.8m and number of channels you can get on intel906. I will only tell you that don't base your budget on what you heard about Intel906 because it was only a temporary phenomenon as morning dew (as I earlier predicted). The goodies are long gone ![]() |
Consumer Commission takes on MultiChoice, Top TV over bundled bouquets South African pay-TV operators MultiChoice and Top TV are facing an industrial tribunal after rejecting compliance notices over unbundling their channel packages for subscribers. In October 2011 the National Consumer Commission ordered the country's two pay-TV companies to unbundle their TV channels as it claims this model contravenes the Consumer Protection Act. The companies are now facing a Consumer Tribunal over the matter. On Friday (2 March), MultiChoice's advocate Schalk Burger argued that the commission had not properly consulted the sector's regulator, the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa), said the Mail and Guardian. The regulator should have been consulted ahead of the issue of the compliance notices, but this did not happen, said MultiChoice, leaving the notice "fatally defective". The commission's director of legal services, Oatlhotse Thupayatlase, argued that the consultation had been "extensive", adding: "It is comfortable for MultiChoice to argue consultation for eternity." Should the Consumer Tribunal declare the compliance notice invalid, the Commission would have to then consult Icasa prior to issuing another. Thupayatlase declared if this was to happen: "We will be back, though, asking for the tribunal's attention to the issues of substance and the protection of consumers from abuse," according to the Mail and Guardian. Both MultiChoice and Top TV say their subscription packages, complete with bundled channel selections, follow the global model for pay-TV businesses. "If we remodel our product structure it will cause our business serious harm and could lead to our closure," Vino Govender, former chief executive of On Digital Media, which runs Top TV, told Channel24 last year. The tribunal has now reserved judgment. |
Cote Ouest and TV Globo seal African deal for Brazilian football Brazilian football is to be made available to African television audiences in both English and French, following an agreement between Brazil's TV Globo and Cote Ouest, Africa's major programme distributor. Television rights are now available for pay-TV or free to air broadcasters in sub Saharan Africa from the national Brasileirao league as well as Sao Paulo's regional Paulista, according to a report from Balancing Act. "It is becoming more and more difficult for African viewers to get images of football, even of their own competitions, and I am therefore very happy to give them access to the best Brazilian championships, with some of the best teams and players in the world," Bernard Azria, chief executive, Cote Ouest is quoted as saying in Balancing Act. "I am more than convinced that the African audience will soon fall in love with Brazilian football, just as our female audience became very quickly fond of Brazil's series and telenovelas. The African and the Brazilian people have a lot in common, much more than we think," he added. The Paulista runs from January to May and the Brasileirao follows in May until December. Each of these competitions is supplied with two 26' weekly magazines reviewing the previous week's action. Televised match coverage, already sold to 190 countries, is provided in high definition (HD). |

Southern Africa to Lose Free Access to South African Programs on Satellite Many Zimbabweans (and the whole of Southern Africa) currently accessing South African Broadcasting Corporation channels at no cost on so-called free-to-air satellite channels stand to lose them in a few months following a ruling by the South African High Court ordering stronger encryption. The Johannesburg High Court last week ruled that Sentech, a television signal carrier, was "wrongful, negligent and in breach" for its failure to strongly encrypt its signal. It ordered Sentech to take "all reasonable steps necessary" to properly encrypt SABC signals within three months to prevent pirate viewing of the channels. The suit was brought by eBotswana, a subsidiary of eTV of South Africa. Sentech can ask the court for an extension provided it can show "good cause" why such an extension would be justified. Sentech was ordered to pay eBotswana costs. Viewers in Zimbabwe, Angola, Lesotho, Mozambique, Zambia, Malawi and Namibia have for years been accessing SABC news and other programs with inexpensive receivers. The channels to be encrypted include SABC 1, 2 and 3 which also carry soaps like Generations, Muvhango and Zone 14 which have a huge following in Zimbabwe. Other free to air channels will remain available. VOA will continue to broadcast the Studio 7 news program serving Zimbabweans on an Intelsat10 audio channel. Satellite expert Simon Ellis told reporter Marvellous Mhlanga-Nyahuye that the loss of the SABC channels will affect a large number of Zimbabweans seeking an alternative to the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation, heavy on pro-ZANU-PF propaganda. |

sammu:Thanks Oga Sammu for the technical explanation. This some how explains this anomaly coz if I remember very well I initially didn't have this problem. Let me see if I will enjoy the yellow boot screen (I just like the white STRONG boot screen) ![]() |
swordswifter:Thanks Swordswifter for the detailed analysis. I have recently changed my diseqc switch and cable but bearing in mind the quality of gadgets we get from China I don't rule out the possibility of one of them being faulty. My observation has been that this anomaly happens to me on some satellites like W3c (ku), W4/7 (ku), etc but rarely on C band (although it happens)! We (with Ilish) will try to found the way out ![]() gadotor:Thanks. Looks like Lanceosas posted about this a few moments ago. May be you missed his update! ![]() |
Ilish:I noted this sometime back, especially on KU band (w4, w3c, etc). You blind scan, you get channels and others are repeated but with no signal ![]() |
freshp:Well said bro. Looks like the page is an email harvesting page. I gave them a temporary email address to check their authenticity. ![]() |
